Hi Dr. Anne. Thanks you for the video. I do have a question. Can hydroquinone be used on underarms? If yes, can it be used with Certain Dri and other deodorant? I also use lotion on it. Is that ok? Thank you very much!
In general Hydroquinone can be used on the underarms, but of course that depens on the individual product and the concentration used. That also influences what it can be paired with, but in general I wouldn't use too much else on top of my actives.
Phenoxyethanol is a preservative, which is why you will find it in many products. And yes, it is safe (in the low concentrations it is used in skincare products).
@@DoctorAnne it was perfect timing too as I have just been prescribed some 4%, started using it last week, and then saw that it was "banned in Europe". Very reassuring to hear all that you said about it and to know that this info is false. Thanks so much!

I have FP type VI skin that is in between normal and combination. I have been using Vitamin C/Sweet almond oil for about 9 months to fade my PIH (due to acne/pimples/ingrown facial hairs) and it had worked fairly well. But the result is that I now have dark dots/spots that look like freckles all over my cheeks and under each side of my jawline. Question: How should I use my newly acquired fading cream (HQ 2% & Salicylic Acid 2%)? Shall I cover the entire area where these dots/spots are concentrated (as if treating melasma) or should I target each dot/spot individually (as if treating age spots)? I'm after an effective method that will work over 2-3 months at most. Thanks! ^__^
I would strongly advise you ask someone that has experience with hyperpigmentation on FP VI skin, my knowledge there is very limited. The general advice would be to cover the surrounding area as well, but again: I suggest you ask someone with more experience than I have.
I don´t know the cream or the ingredients, so I can´t comment on that, but I would not mix my hydroquinone with anything unless specifically advised by your doctor to do so.

I don't think the solution here is to add in more products, but maybe to reduce the frequency of the Hydroquinone if you thin the irritation is caused by that?
I recently got a prescription from my dermatologist with 5% HQ, 2% Ascorbic Acid, Kojic Acid 2% with equal parts of Hydrocortisone. I already read that you are suppose to wean off the use of HQ, as oppose of stopping it abruptly. Are there any good products that will aid in this weaning process?
Hi Doctor, I have melasma on my forehead and its in the form two arcs . its impossible to apply hydroquinone just on those arcs because it spreads out. Should I apply it on entire forehead ??
hi there.. basically I have hyperpigmentation around the upper eyelid and lower eye I have tried the hq 4% and it has not irritated my skin at all...what I'm asking is will this take away my hyperpigmenration. Thanks
That depends on several different factors. The best thing you could do is see a dermatologist for individual advice. If that isn't possible, a regime that is gentle on the skin and uses specific actives like retinoids, salicylic acid and maybe benzoylperoxide is the way to go.

Hi Dr Anne, I’ve been using Ambi Fade Cream (2% HQ) for 3 days and my spots have gotten darker. I’m taken precautions to avoid any sun damage by using spf and reapplying and staying out of the sun. Does HQ make spots temporarily darker before lightening?
Hi, the same is happening to me right now after 2 days of using Ambi. But I’ve watched a couple YT videos stating that it is common for spots to become darker the first few weeks before lightening + read a few articles about it too. I was wondering how the product worked for you? Hope you can respond as I am very scared to resume the treatment 😖
I've had these patches of hyperpigmentation on the sides of my cheeks since I was around 12 (so around puberty). I've also found that a lot of other south asians have the same thing so I think it could be due to hormones. It looks nothing like melasma and even wearing sunscreen daily hasn't gotten rid of it. Do you know why I have these patches? And do you think hydroquinone will help with it? I've literally tried everything so this is my last resort.
@@DoctorAnne No, because waiting times are too long and my skin is so terrible that I can't leave my house without makeup. And aren't you a dermatologist? I thought you might have an idea if hydroquinone will be able to help or not.
@@yugeno First of all: I am a medical doctor, but not a dermatologist (it is written in the description box). But even if I were, I couldn't just diagnose and treat here in the comment section. I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I’ve been using Ambicream (2% hydroquinone) and I haven’t even used a whole tube and I’m seeing really concerning side effects. @@lorainecarolan8630 Okay: 1. Fillers do come with risks, and one of them (very, very rare) would be loosing eye sight. The only thing risk-free would be not getting any procedures. 2. Yes, you could use it all over the face and yes, it is entirely possible to see a difference in skin color between treated and untreated parts, but as it is supposed to be used for hyperpigmentation and that usually only affects areas, not the whole face, that shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Dr.
@@DoctorAnne Thank you very much

It seems like almost all products have Phenoxyethonol, is it safe with Hydroquinone.
Phenoxyethanol is a preservative, which is why you will find it in many products. And yes, it is safe (in the low concentrations it is used in skincare products).
Docter. What is the different between quinol and hydroqyinone. If quinol 4% does it safe for long run

Sadly I don´t understand, but thank you for the roses.
