hi. if you're seeing this message it means you're either done with the video or you've skipped it and gone straight to the discussion. which means this is your last chance because if you don't finish the video first, this comment is going to self destruct and i will vomit you out of my mouth. also, thanks for 2k subs!

there is something about minecraft that deeply attracts me, I watch videos, think of ideas, think of stuff I wish they will change/improve etc but I cant play it, everytime I upmost reach iron gear and then stop playing all together.
I have project ideas and I know the small steps to reach those projects but I just cant play minecraft and this vexes me!
I find it really interesting how the fact that Minecraft has no end creates these two perspectives. There is no end therefore nothing you do has value OR there is no end and so everything you do has value. I feel like playing survival Minecraft nowadays is an exercise in staying intrinsically motivated for as long as you can until you, inevitably, drop it. It's almost like Minecraft is the game within the larger game of staying personally motivated. I do enjoy building in Minecraft, but i always need to know what my plan is before i even dare to open up one of my worlds. I always viewed Minecraft more as a creative exercise akin to drawing or writing. Minecraft, weirdly enough, takes that energy from me when i play it and i will inevitably have to take a break from it because it would exhaust me in the same way as working on a single drawing for a couple of hours would exhaust me. The End feels like a distraction from the actual question that Minecraft asks the player when they enter a world, heck, even before entering a world: "Alright bucko, what now?"

Terraria....
I should replay that again, i always liked building unique NPC home around the map for their pilylons
I think another factor for low motivation is that a lot of stuff (structures, items & craftables) in the game encourages players to do vastly different things that are not crucial to the main quest. In fact, if all you care about is getting to the credits, lots of stuff is pointless. Most blocks are completely redundant; hay bales and dirt cover just about all a player might want. The only good monster drops are the ones to help make bows and arrows and the main quest items. Most foods are redundant, all dyes are decorative, and most plants are both. Gold items are mostly useless. Discs are completely useless. Potions are easier to ignore. Geodes, archaeology sites, and ocean monuments are extraneous. Redstone contraptions are pretty inconvenient for main quest purposes unless the intent is to make a farm to get more main quest-relevant items. I'm being reductive, but I think you get the point.
Really, most features in Minecraft these days don't make a big difference for players trying to get to the End. They serve other valuable purposes, but that means a player's attention is always split between ten different things they could do. Should they go look for cool structures? Should they build big farms? Should they learn redstone? Should they gather up a bunch of villagers and improve their trades? Should they collect a ton of decorative blocks? Should they figure out how enchanting works? Should they go strip mining for materials? Or should they just quit the game because they don't have enough incentive to do any one of those things in particular?
i love this video, me and my friends are trying to enjoy the game again. what texture pack do you use? i love the look of the old game but hate not having the new updates!
@trutrutra1n programmer art ultimate! also, thanks! i make a lot of minecraft critiques but i myself still play modern minecraft as well. my friends and i have developed a kind of "assignment" based workflow where we put our ideas for builds on a sign at spawn, and anyone can pick up projects as they choose.
