    thanks for everyone's comments on my last minecraft video. i really want to shine a spotlight on some of these and briefly acknowledge them, and i'd like to do it for a lot of my videos in the future to encourage more discussion, so consider this the beginning of a series. some comments i will be holding for full essays on certain subjects, though, so look forward to those!
    also, the channel is nearly at 2K subscribers. WOW! thanks for all the attention. if you'd like to see more of what i do or check out my patreon, use linktr.ee/brendan_pett where i keep all my links. thanks for watching!

    I dont see anyone talk about it
    But jungles have significantly less bushes on the ground since 1.18, and i'm so pissed that they'd do that because I LOVED the overgrown jungles. I know a lot of people hate the jungle bushes, but that's the jungle's identity, not having bushes is like having no trees in a forest or no flat ground in the plains.
    The jungle biome is ruined because of that stealth change.

    about the apple trees... i dont understand why we have crops and harvesting mechanics, even berries and cocoa, but we dont have fruit trees. It feels kinda like something is missing. Also, why cant we cook eggs? eggs are so pointless

    On the topic of adding more options to gamemodes:
    I’ve always felt the current difficulty system is weirdly arbitrary. Yeah, not being able to interact with hunger in peaceful is already annoying, but did you know that villagers only have a 100% chance to be zombified on HARD mode? Every easier difficulty has a chance for zombies to outright kill villagers instead, making aspects of the game arguably more difficult and tedious on the “easier” difficulties.

    • @i2eptilian
      @i2eptilian Місяць тому +1

      My guess is that they saw villagers getting zombified as a bad thing, and didn't consider that a player might want to do it on purpose just for the cure discount. So they implemented it that way and just never thought about it again.
      If not that, then maybe because hard is where zombies can break down doors and they didn't want villages to just get wiped out with no player input and no recourse? Or maybe they consider it a reward mechanic for managing a village on hard, that you can get cure discounts consistently? idk.

    I honestly hate Minecraft's bats. Little creatures that are supposed to contribute to the game's ambient soundscape and make the world more lively shouldn't be so annoying, with the aimless flying around and constant squeaking.
    Their behaviour is erratic and sometimes infuriatingly random and stupid, especially when they happen to spawn in an unlit building where you don't want them. Their squeaking is loud and unrealistic, arguably almost completely unlike the often bird-like sounds they actually make (many of them at least). And note that most microbats echolocate and communicate with ultrasonic sounds that humans can't even hear in the first place. I know realistic sounds are not much of a focus in Minecraft, but you could make them more pleasant to listen to at least.
    Also, just have them spawn in large numbers in cave entrances near surface forests or sometimes on trees and deeper in the Lush Caves. Make a bat cave, and have them go out hunting during the night and return to the roost site before dawn. Make them actually have a place in the world, instead of just spawning occasionally near-exclusively in caves and being an annoyance more than anything.

    I disagree with Princeleefelix. The spyglass is the zoom button from Optifine, and if I'm remembering my redstone history, pistons were also based on a mod.
    And to say "Mojang doesn't like to add things that mods can already do" is simply false. Because mod makers could add anything, which means that Mojang could never add anything else. Lots of mods add new passive mobs and food items, and Mojang continues to add those. Lots of mods add new biomes or make changes to mining and ores, and Mojang continues to implement those.
    And in Mojang's concept art for a birch forest update they showed fungi growing on the trees. Regardless of what made them decide to not implement those changes, they were clearly thinking about adding something small that mods already had.
    And Bedrock players don't have mods. And Mojang (or at least, Microsoft) clearly wants to focus on bringing in more players into the Bedrock edition.

    I really wish we had some bugs, this might just be my obsession with bugs, but dude I'd be extatic if we got some bugs.
    or some more wild plants, like the sweet berry bushes, maybe yarrow and also hemlock which look very similar and are called "white plant" until you eat it and do or don't die. maybe the flag is tied to your game directory? so you don't have to go die to hemlock in every new world just to see what it is.
    idk I just want to cook in this little sandbox survival game.

    1:30 like what? All the Pale Garden really did was to add more building blocks and a new and weak mob to exploit to get half of those building blocks. Is the biome good? Yes. Did we need it? Not at all.

    • @bumblebeebowties
      @bumblebeebowties  Місяць тому

      @@Spika94 i agree. we didn't need it, BUT it still qualifies as KIND OF a "structure biome", a rare variant of dark oak forest. also, the resin added a little bit of vertical design to armor trims. so it wasn't, like, super good, but it still was technically miniscule amounts of progress, you know? also, the blocks that have ambient sounds were another really nice addition.

  • @Querez8504
    @Querez8504 Місяць тому +4

    With the difference between structures and "features", I'm unsure whether you understood or not, so I wanna clarify as best I can. The part of the world generation that adds things like trees, grass, lava pools, etc. is what that's referring to. Those are called "features", for some reason. They are structures in some way, but I think the difference is that "structures" are a specific set of blocks that always spawn the same way (like buildings), essentially being pre-saved templates to pick from, while "features", _I think_ are just done by code alone, meaning a tree or a lava pool will have variation in how they look every time.

    • @ricedanan
      @ricedanan Місяць тому +3

      I personally like to call them "Terrain Features" so that I don't get them confused with other Features.

      @Querez8504 Місяць тому

      @ricedanan Yeah I was considering tacking on a sentence at the end of my comment along those lines, though I was thinking of "world features" or "world gen features". I ended up not doing that since I didn't feel they sounded great. "Terrain features" definitely sounds much better

    I am less tolerant than you with Mojang laziness. Yes, efforts and improvements should be praised, but the money and power in Mojang's hands is insane, players shouldn't be that grateful for so little. I talked about Vintage Story in the last video comments, it's developed by a very small team and the number of game-changing features added at each release is insane. You could say that it's easier for a small game to add game-changing features, but I feel like that VS is **already** deeper than MC.
    One of the reasons is that there's a direction, an intent in the game design that unify the features. Like, MC mobs seems to be implemented randomly or to please players : cats, dogs, parrots, axolotls etc... while in VS the mobs are added to improve immersion in regions depending on climate (biomes are NOT stitched together like in MC), so there are bears, hares, wild pigs, gazelles, wolves etc... which naturally blends into their habitats.
    Moreover, since the world are waaaaay more customizable than in MC you can basically tune the gameplay as you like it : large oceans or not, hostile mobs or not, simulation of seasons or not, etc... without using mods. And, talking about mods, there are Vintage Story mods that adds hundred of plants and animal species in the game. So if a very small indie game with few passionate players can create a very immersive game with an infinite number of biomes (smooth transition between climates) and dozens or hundreds of fauna and flora species, I see no excuses for Mojang.

    • @bumblebeebowties
      @bumblebeebowties  Місяць тому +3

      yeah, i just like to give mojang the benefit of the doubt. i know that many of the people on the dev team are passionate developers, because they started in the community. so i know that at least THEY are probably trying their hardest! but honestly i have so much more faith in indie studios to develop their games than larger studios. i think it has something to do with microsoft, but without evidence it's just speculation.
