In an afterlife way station resembling a block of hotels, the lives of the recently-deceased are examined in a court-like setting.

They throw the truth about this reality in your face but many won't take it seriously because it's a light hearted comedy.
Yo. More than we know
its scary that Cali was considered close to "hell" in 1991. Has Cali got worse or better over the years? lol
I picked up on this immediately and it changed my life...Sadly most people have been taught to live fearful lives at birth...It explains why in my beautiful Townhouse complex I still see so many unhappy people...We have been taught to be afraid of EVERTHING...My wifw and I moved out and found a place where people weren't afraid to smile and enjoy life.
@ROYALP100
where’s that?
It’s just a movie
"Underrated" isn't a fair word to use to describe this movie, because most people who've seen it seem to agree that it's wonderful. It's just that not *enough* people have seen it. "Underknown," maybe.
I agree I'm not fooled by what I see, people aren't happy later in life because they look back and know they have made poor decisions and time is running out...This movie should be a awake up call but most won't see it.
A very underrated movie. It should be a classic.
it is a classic
@@ghostmkc4045, I would love to agree, but ask 10 people if the heard of it. I would be shocked if 4 people did.
Albert Brooks is a national treasure, up there with Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, and Gene Wilder when it comes to great American comic actor-writer-directors. "Lost in America" may be his masterpiece but this comes pretty damn close. Totally original, imaginative, visually stunning, and beautifully acted. Nothing to defend here!
OhSankYouDoktor Albert Brooks is my fave comedian. I liked him in Finding Nemo, Drive (2011) and This is 40
Modern Romance is great too 🌸
my first mister was great too
@@alalal123421 watched the trailer and seems like a great dramedy
are your kiddin? worst acting ever. if one can call it acting at all
I remember watching this on a big screen in the cinema - the audiance was laughing and I spent the movie in tears - I knew that when my time came it would be a very long movie of my life....still playing it!
One of my all time favorites.
Mine, too!!!! Meryl is AMAZING! A FUN movie, all the way through!!!! Love it!!!!
@@trinapatterson8905 albert brooks is sensational too idk how hes so forgotten now
A movie that makes you think Regardless of your religious affiliations if u look at this movie on the surface you can't help but see a positive message No human is perfect but are we giving our best Not an easy movie to get done in Hollywood but kudos to those who made it happen Great acting by some true superstars who make it come to life and focus you on the films general theme of making your life count while you still can Also puts in perspective just how short and precious life really is and how easily that realization can get lost in the sometimes humdrum existence of everyday life A movie that no doubt generates dialogue and means something different to each one of us yet has a common message of trying to make us better as a race by being the best we can be while we can An underrated movie in many respects that's all in all is a classic that will stand the test of time in stark contrast to the type of movies that Hollywood could never make today
I caught the last 1/3 of this movie once, and I dind't know anyone in it except Rip Torn (I was like, "Oh it's Zed from Men in Black, how nice!) and it always sort of stuck in the back of my mind. The concept is just so quirky, and al brooks is just brilliant, especially since he's NOT the stereotypical leading man. I'm going to have to get my hands on this and watch it properly.
I was trying to remember the name of this movie for a long time
This movie changed my life. How weird is it to say that? It did. Live a life without fear. Grow and expand. Adapt and eclipse your fear. Such a mind~fk. And yet, it sorta…… seems plausible.
One of my favourite films of all time 😎
I saw this movie once as a kid. Always wanted to watch it again but could never remember the name. Answers with Joe had an episode about ghost and mentioned this movie. So glad I watched that episode.
It happenes the same to me. But today i googled life, love, death, reencarnation. And found it. That's crazy
This movie was mentioned in a book I recently read about a woman who had an amazing near death experience, she suggested watching it.
Rip Mary Pat Gleason 1950-2020 and Rip Rip Torn 1931-2019 they are 11 months apart
Rory Mulligan so sad 😭
I still remember this movie. I love it
Hello
That was my birthday movie for years 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Still ♥️Best ♥️movie ♥️ever.♥️
Why would they give away the ending in the trailer?
Well, you can't know it's the ending until you see it.
I have never seen this movie and I have no idea what you're talking about you're kind of a free-kick at night I am still going to watch this movie though.
older trailers worked differently. there are some today who still work like this. also that narrator jesus! :)))
@@PaulVRo yea....well....you know....each era has that certain flavour; appearance; ambience-ness about it....the 1970's with the flare jeans; true metal & steel chassis-manufactured automobiles and disco music.....then the 1980's with the cassette decks and the walk-man portable CD players; and the so-called glam-bands such as :: Cinderella; Poison; Ratt and Motley Crue etcetera...
Until you see the whole movie, you have no idea what the ending is. This is a very good trailer - glad they featured Rip Torn so much.
i love this film but its not shown that much anymore because it might offend people its wonderful film and it should be regarded on the same level as “It's A Wonderful Life“
Why would it offend people?
@@hammill444, the very religious would find it offensive, but then again, they find everything offensive 😂
They are right about one thing... earth is hell
They ruin the ending in the trailer. People complain that's a new phenomenon, but this movie is from 91
I don't think it ruins it at all.
It's kind of like The Big Lebowski I can watch it over and over and see things in a different light.
Wow, never heard of this film! Going to Netflix and Amazon Prime right now!
I love this movie. One of my favorites.
Love this movie. I wish some of the movie reaction YT channels would feature it.
Stunning film, so engaging and fun in every way
Is that Zed from MIB?
Sounds like him, looks like him (minus the facial hair)😊
Yes
Sitting there eating olives out of the jar in front of my grandchildren.... "It tastes good to me" :P
Love this movie
Yes… I’m pretty sure I saw it many years ago but didn’t think much of it (as much as I LOVE Brooks)
Alguien sabe por que no esta en línea y en ninguna parte?
♥️Best ♥️movie ♥️ever.♥️
My name is Kevin Finnerty. And this isn't my briefcase. My whole life was in there.
Such a great, great movie.
This is the trailer I saw on Comcast digital cable as a kid
Did the good place rip this off?
Probably
This movie came out in 1991, the good place premiered in2016, so no. If anything, the good place was influenced by defending your life.
@@irenelundrigan1201 You are suggesting the same thing as Micky69.
Maybe it was inspired by it but it didn’t “rip it off” as you claim. Most television and movies today are influenced or inspired by older shows or are remakes of older shows.
@@irenelundrigan1201 that is what they said lol
Ok, so they already told the whole movie in trailers in the 90s? Wow, and I thought this was exclusively a 2000s thing...
Documentary
Love this movie!! 🔥 🔥
Is Beau Is Afraid a slight reference to this film?
drew barrymore sent me here
Gracias.
Never heard of it; doesn't look very appealing from the trailer, though the comments here suggest some people liked it.
Good movie 😎
Quisiera ver la en español
Solo se ve en ingles y me an dicho que tambien sale en español
So the good place ripped this off
The good place isn’t about them being judged for what they did in their life... the only similarities they have is that they’re about the after life.

Misclick
Casio watch, mortal !!
What are you? Dinner lolz
movie is good is a movie for a god but is good film is a man who come to next live and test is do you scare and thinks and I'm bed but l don't speak English l love god amin
Same music as the Joker movie- just saying randomly
This could've been the best movie ... if only the main actor would be a different actor ... he cant act at all hes dead behind the eyes and his face expressions is dead
Actually, there's hell and it isn't a city.
How would you know, have you been there?
if Meryl Streep was''nt in this movie. i'd give it a try. but nothing with Maryl Streep, she's such a phony
it's because she's Meryl Streep that she's so perfect for this role. You have to watch the movie to understand why.
Thank God there's someone else who thinks like me about Streep. She's a total ham, complete fake.
I will say the same except this is a really nice movie with a great message.
Try it anyway. She's really only there to react to Albert Brooks.
You mean she's an actress?
The first true story????? What NONSENSE - there IS a Heaven and worse there IS A HELL
Yes, and HELL is UA-cam comments.
You obviously do not get Albert Brooks
