  • This video shows how to repair a Gamepark GP32 handheld with a corrupted firmware. This is a common problem of those devices because the used flash ROM chip looses its data over the time. To repair the "bricked" GP32, it is necessary to replace the original ATMEL AT49BV040 with a SST 39VF040 and previously flash the correct firmware to the new flash ROM.
Sorry for the bad video quality during the first 5 min. Unfortunately I realized that the camera was only recording in 640x480 after the tear down was already finished.

Thanks. It is not that easy if you are trying to do that with a camera in front of you 😁.

Hello Thank you very much for sharing this video, I also have GP32 which is almost 20years old. it's didn't work anymore due to firmware issue since 2010. I always wonder how to fix it because it's very meaningful device for me. I just happened to search it. you made it. I will try at some point Thank you again,

I didn't know the GP32 had a Neo Geo Pocket style D-Nub. I'm happy I just bought this for my collection. 😳

That's some great Soldiering work, have you heard of Hot Plates? It might make your life a little bit easier. Also what Soldier Paste and other materials did you use? Can you provide more links in the description please.

Amazing detailed video! I have my own GP32 I'd like to restore as well however it looks like corrosion has got to the capacitors under the SDRAM chip. Would you happen to know the value for these or if there was ever a data sheet made available for the console? Great work getting the unit back to life regardless!

Thanks. Unfortunately I do not have schematics for GP32. The capacitors might be just simple 100nF caps since they seem to be connected directly to the voltage inputs of the Samsung CPU. This would be at least my guess.

@@Octoate Thanks for the details, that's a good place to start, when I get up the courage I'll give it a go!
