I used to chase them all the time after school as a kid. We used what we called Butter Prawns and used to generally catch them on a small mud flat off a small river island. Alternatively used bread. But cook them up in butter with a bit of salt and fill our hungry teenage guts.

    Good less expensive berley is.
2 tins of tuna mix in with bread or bread crumbs.
You will also catch mullet or small salmon sometimes as well. Toadies are sometimes biggest problem.

No float, no shot sinkers...no nothing. Just a small hook with a bit if bait and let it float away. Gardies are the easiest fish on this earth to catch.

Not even a hook. Soak 100/150mm of red wool in berley... they entangle their teeth I in.

      @@logic.and.reasoningthanks.
I have heard about the red wool in the past, you confirmed it and I will try it.
It must resemble the weed they eat or a worm 👍

@@UrbanBounty resembles a beach worm and seen it used reallyeffectively. Don't use tuna oil as attractant for small fish either. They are afraid of tuna as predators.

Great video Lee, One thing we do is just give them a gentle little squeeze / massage to push all of the green muck out of them the y are then nice and clean to handle.

Glad you liked it mate - I totally agree that dining your thumb along the belly to get rid of the gunk is the way to go
