    Nice video. I love that you used an old school quill float. It's what I used to use in when I was in New Plymouth (NZ) where the gardies there are called Piper. Garfish were the subject of a fishing ban here in WA and it's just been lifted. You've inspired me to get out and have a Gardie session. I've just made some new peacock quill floats ready to go.

      Awesome mate. I'm glad to hear you guys can fish for them again. They are a great little fish to catch. There is something about watching a float go under that's very addictive. Hope you get into a few.

      Thank you. Yes that esky is a bit of a pain. I used it as a seat once and that was the end of the lid. Still a good little esky though

      Thanks mate. I prefer to brain spike most of my fish. Trying to do that with slippery garfish is not easy and tend to slip out of your hands and down through the rocks. I find if you put them in ice they die really fast.

      Definitely catchable year round. I normly only target them in warmer months. In winter I find I get plagued by tiny bream. I have head winter off redcliffe pier is good for them bit haven't tried it out myself as yet.

      Yeah I have had good success on them whole on gangs for snapper in the bay and sweetlip. They are also pretty good for tailor in the surf over winter.

    HI MATE. Have you been down chasing the gar at all ? i see they are still getting a few snapper down there , i have been after the whiting the last month or so
    i should pull out the snapper rods and have a go ,have you tried lately those bloody big Caties will be around as well.
    Cheers keen to hear back. Chris

      @ScaleUpadventures  2 місяці тому +1

      Hey mate. Have stocked up on gar for winter bait and a few good feeds. Thinking might try for snapper with leading up to the full moon. Have not had much success with whiting on surface lures this year. The water has been realy discoloured with all this rain.

    Look different to the ones we get in SA. Yours dont seem to have much of a bill

    • @ScaleUpadventures
      @ScaleUpadventures  6 місяців тому +2

      Hi mate yes these are snub nose garfish. Othe then the shorter bill and been a little thicker in build they are identical to your sea garfish. We get a mix of both of them up here

    Do you have a float stopper at the top of the floats or a swivel?

    • @ScaleUpadventures
      @ScaleUpadventures  4 місяці тому +1

      Using a quill float fixed with a rubber sleeve. I use a swivel just below the float

    • @josephpotter7301
      @josephpotter7301 4 місяці тому +1

      @@ScaleUpadventures thanks for the reply mate. Might be silly question, but what stops the float from going up all the way up your line?

    • @ScaleUpadventures
      @ScaleUpadventures  4 місяці тому +2

      There is a little rubber sleeve on the float . You pass your line through it and this fixed the float to your line ad ots tight fitting. With a little force you can adjust your depth

    Sorry for ignorance, do you have to kill them all? Or are you just putting them on ice?

    • @ScaleUpadventures
      @ScaleUpadventures  4 місяці тому +2

      Hi no need to be sorry thank you for your question. The bag limit is 50 per person I normly limit myself to 20 or 30 which works out to be enough for a feed for 4 people fresh the same day and a few of the smaller ones kept for snapper or tailor bait. I always have an ice bottle or two in the esky to keep them fresh. I'm fortunate enough to only live 1km from my fishing spot so no need to feel the freezer I just go fishing for them when I need some

    • @Sifcole
      @Sifcole 4 місяці тому +2

      @ScaleUpadventures I worded that completely wrong! I'm sorry, that's not what I was asking. I was trying to word it nicely, I'm not sure how UA-cam works with filtering. I'll be blunt, do you st@b them in the head or just throw them in the esky with some ice? Reason I ask is I love fishing, but I normally throw back because I'm not good at the ending life part. But I wanted to catch some for bait, so I could just throw them in the esky like you did that would work.
      Thanks so much for your reply!

      Thanks might give it a go next time. Not sure how far out I will be able to cast. And soon as the bait sinks further then a foot or two down the undersized bream are all over it.
