- For all those who want to replace the horrible HU from their 80 series and put in a touch screen system, this is a video on how to do it and also how to bypass the pesky factory amp to improve sound quality
Excellent video! Thank you for posting. I have a 1990 HDJ81 RHD here in the US. It has an old “carrozzeria” (pioneer) CD stereo from Japan in it. Limited radio stations. I need to swap everything out. This video was very beneficial.
All these years later, and you are still a life saver. That pesky factory amp becomes a fire hazard as it degrades. When replacing the HU, it sent 12volts to a door speaker and smoked the inside of my truck. My mechanic traced the phantom load to that amp and disconnected one of the connectors that was sending out the voltage. There were still electrical gremlins lurking and when I disconnected the second connector, it all seems fine now. Thanks for your great video!
Great content Definitely a great detailed video & yes you’re spot on !!!! Thank you
Thank you! Lovely video mate
Definitely will give this a go, thanks mate. By the way, which spot would you recommend as a "good" earthing?
So if you plug the aftermarket wiring harness between the head unit to the original Toyota plugs (grey) as needed, and simply unplug the (grey) plugs on the OEM Amp, that by-passes it?
I have tried every thing and I can't get rid of the engine noise. I tried running a wire straight from the ground of the battery .what else can I try ? 1997 Lexus lx450. I installed the Marine grade polk speakers they will fit. Polk also makes 4 inch that fit in rear speakers housing with very little cutting of housing
what is the part number for the other connector you use? NOT THE TAO2B.
Did you have to do any soldering?
isn’t the factory amp in the boot with the factory subwoofer?
Why? Just run new speaker wires. I did a DVD in a 2006 civic ex coupe! The only harness I needed was for the antenna. Also a dash kit! I took the constant power from my old radio also the acc wire.
Fried my head unit, probably because I didnt unplug my factory amp
