    Alternative way to make you livestream look smoother:
    Instead of capping your FPS to your livestream's FPS, just go to the video setting in OBS, change from "Common FPS Value" to either "Integer FPS Value" or "Fractional FPS Value" (Note that "Integer FPS Value" will probably be maximally capped at 120 FPS and no greater than that, at least it was for me).
    Now you can set a greater than 60 FPS value (also works for recording).
    Beware that since you are sending more information to Twitch, in other words, Bitrate, you might wanna sacrifice some resolution, especially if you are not sending 6000Kbps already.
    Don't get fooled to what Twitch says. It will show you that you are recording in 60 FPS but the stream will noticibly look smoother doing so. I was also watching someone who did that and told me that it had worked for him.

    • @Blensidi
      @Blensidi 4 роки тому +55

      And also, no matter whether you stream or record ALWAYS make sure to:
      Start OBS as Administrator by rightcliking the icon and click on "run as administrator".
      This will set the priority of the programm to the highest possible if there aren't any other programms opened in administrator aswell so it will make sure to basically record the footage with the desired resolution, FPS and etc and only then render your game.
      Usually you won't lose any performance ingame, I myself didn't notice anything.
      Thank me later.

    Here's some streaming tips:
    1. Run OBS as an admin-Trust me. It makes all the difference!
    2. ALWAYS use GPU encoding unless you have a separate stream PC so you can save some CPU horsepower for alerts and things like that.
    3. Ensure your bit-rate is high enough, but not unnecessarily high. For example, using a 6000kb/s bit-rate on a 720p60fps stream is superfluous, but then again, so is a 2000ks/s bitrate on that same 720p60fps.
    I personally use 5000kb/s on a 720p60fps stream, and use the extra headroom to set my quality to the highest quality instead of the fastest speed. Happy Streaming!
    Edit: Obviously this comment was intended for lower end systems. People with 12-16 cores OBVIOUSLY shouldn’t need this kind of advice. Also side note, my system is a Ryzen 5 2600 OC 4.1GHZ and a Vega 56 with 16gb 3200mhz RAM in case you wanted my situation👍

    One tip when benchmarking OBS is viewing it’s streaming/recording stats. You can view it by clicking view > docks > stats. It shows stats of when frames are missed due to rendering lag or skipped due to encoding lag, or the average time to render the frames, CPU and memory usage, even if there’s dropped frames during your stream/recording. It’s a big help instead of relying on viewing your own stream on twitch for any performance hits. Hope that helps!

      We only "upgraded" her rig to a 2600X recently because Micro Center was basically giving them away at 90$ + 30$ off the MoBo, so the whole upgrade was like... 150$ and allowed us to move her to M.2 storage and get rid of some cable clutter.

    Hey @JayzTwoCents, I spent the last year or so streaming on a single PC setup. I was running with an OCed 6600k (When I built my rig, I was not planning on livestreaming) with a GTX 1060. It's an older code, but it checks out. I did not like redlining my machine while streaming, but I went forward with it. Depending on the title I started running into problems where my rig was no longer stable. For example I was running into audio problems in Apex Legends. This turned into a lot of starts and stops on the stream, many troubleshooting moments, which is not a good viewer experience. And I was pretty hard with my setup, wanting some animations and various other CPU intensive tasks (like a facecam?!). I think you have proven the point that it is possible, and maybe even feasible for some users. However, you have not included a lot of the other CPU intensive aspects to creating a quality stream. That being a screen overlay, Steam Alerts, a quality webcam/facecam, and maybe a simple soundboard with an Elgato. Oh and if you are running a single PC setup chances are you will also want a second screen to handle all the backend streaming stuff.... Viewing chat, etc. Now I am running a 2 PC setup and it gives me much more flexibility. I was able to get a trashed Optiplex w/ a 6600, so I am still running a 720p60fps and CPU encoding. It is much more stable for both machines, and allows me to focus on my viewers experience.

I am in the process of building a dual system PC and still plan on having the smaller PC in the rig for streaming.. also my streaming rig is more then just a streaming rig as I use for network storage also so it will be in my overall setup for awhile longer.. I do recommend new streamers to start with one PC but if you do eventually want the pros that two pcs bring I highly recommend it

    Great video Jay. I have a 9400f with a RTX 2060. When I stream AC Odyssey and the Witcher 3 at 720p/60fps, capping frames at 60 fps made the output so much smoother. Uncapped I get around 85 fps/110 fps for both games at very high quality. As much as I want a a 3700x and a 2070 Super, I'm very happy with my rig as I hit my college student budget perfectly.

    I think the consumer base still has to get used to the new AMD paradigm of powerful hardware which doesn't cost an arm and a leg anymore, even if your brand new motherboard won't support the incoming brand new series of CPUs.
    There was a time when i5s wouldn't do the job. R5s do. R3s do it too now. You won't even need the nvenc hardware encoder when you have 12 hard cores and 24 threads to throw at the job. It reminds me of a threadripper review where the guy streamed his game, recorded it and rendered a previous stream at high quality settings all at the same time, having half the CPU left over doing nothing. 16 cores. We're getting there on the consumer level soon.

    • @EMETRL

      with the msi tomahawk x570 coming out soon, you can get fantastic performance for incredible value too if you don't mind paying an extra 85 bucks to upgrade from the b450. Or you could just wait a month or two to get a b550, which would have to be priced significantly under the x570 for it to not be dead on arrival. The whole 400 mbd series controversy sucks but in terms of people who want to build a new pc soon, it just isn't that big of a deal. It only matters for people who built a pc in the second half of 2019, and for those people, I'm sorry amd are too disorganized to treat you well. But even if you do build a b450 system right now, by the time you want to upgrade, you probably either can't or wouldn't want to keep your motherboard anyway.

    Very good video. I have one small complaint though. You don't need to limit your FPS if you enable game mode in Windows 10 while you're using NVENC. Your GPU will split usage between OBS and your Game and the most performance you'll lose at the heaviest is close to 5%. So 95% of your GPU will still be dedicated to getting the max fps out of your game. :D

      @vampireeric1 4 роки тому

      900p isn't really good because it's not a good scale for 1080p. It's better to just drop to 720p. Also a thing to consider is the game's speed. If you're playing something fast paced it's much better to stream at 720p because of all the jitter that you'll see at 1080p.

    • @DelixYT88

    • @YTHandlesWereAMistake
      @YTHandlesWereAMistake 4 роки тому +3

      You’re right. And wrong at the same time.
      The card to card difference is in the chips used to encode, the one on 20-series cards is better in terms of quality. That’s true.
      1650 Super and upper cards have all got that new NVENC chip with better quality.
      The OBS options are completely different to that though. Those are about “new method of working with an nvenc chip” which eliminates unnecessary data copying from VRAM to RAM back to VRAM which is done in “regular” NVENC option in OBS. That’s where the performance difference comes from.

    • @Reqsy
      @Reqsy 4 роки тому

      Snic___ this isn’t true, all 16XX and and 2XXX GPUs have the new Turing encoder with the only exception being the OG GTX 1650 (the 1650S *DOES* have the better encoder.) Also, the “new” NVIDIA encoder that you may see in OBS is for 1XXX 16XX and 2XXX and in practice it’s closer to being *new* settings rather than a new encoder

The cpu cooler can be as cheap as 35 bucks for a 212 evo (one of the best air coolers on the market for that price imo). or he couldve used a spire that comes with it. The GPU is hands down the most expensive part of the build and thats just because he wanted to use NVENC.
