  • Well, I thought I’d seen it all in sim racing, but having someone drive head on into oncoming traffic? That’s a new one, even for me!
    Sadly, I was right in the firing line and it ended up ruining yet another of my races. With it being my only opportunity to race this week, once again I’m left without a decent race to bring you - not to mention feeling incredibly frustrated.
    This latest disaster occurred at Monza, where I’m racing Low Fuel Motorsport’s BTCC series in rFactor 2.
    I’d love nothing more than to bring you guys an action-packed race full of clean and fair battles, but I’m really struggling to find them. Some have been my fault, some haven’t - but they’ve all combined to leave me feeling pretty disillusioned with online racing.
    Let’s get on track and watch my latest LFM rF2 adventure go painfully wrong.

    Hey Chris. I just watched this one and I feel your frustration. There are still good races out there and good racers thanks to you! You have been a great ambassador for sportsmanship. So chin up buddy, don't let them get you down. 💪

      Ahh thank you John, that’s very kind of you to say. I’ve had a couple of weeks off now, which has soothed my frustration a bit! So I reckon I might try and hop back in next to give something a try 😃

    It was great sharing the track with you in, I think, the race you entered previously with Michi Hoyer. Its a real shame you had such a bad race. I found LfM rf2 to be amazing and because its a small group every week, you see the same names and everyone (mostly) respects each other.
    It's my go to sim as I'm in love with rf2 and btcc.
    A break sounds like a good idea. I've gone through periods of nearly every race being ruined by somebody or my own mistakes. It passes with time and becomes fun again.
    Hope to see you back on track sooner rather then later

      Ahhh yeah, I saw your comment in the chat before the race and was going to reply, but ran out of time as the session ended! I got spun out at exactly the same corner in that race too, lap 3 I think. To be fair, I had a bit of a slide mid-corner and had to correct some oversteer… that meant I couldn’t accelerate as early as usual, and it caught the guy out behind… he drove into me and spun me off. It was frustrating, but wasn’t his fault… if I hadn’t have slid, there wouldn’t have been a problem. So because that race was a write-off, I tried to salvage it with this one… and it was even worse! So yeah, it’s the culmination of 5-6 weeks of bad luck, rather than just this race. To be fair, the grid was great… we all got through T1 fantastically cleanly, and the racing was really good. Just one moment of madness, and being in the wrong place at the wrong time! I’ll be back in a couple of weeks, feeling more positive I’m sure! Cheers bud, hopefully see you on track again soon 😃

    Totally understand your position, I'm on a long break from GT7 and on the verge of walking away forever , ACC is still my favorite but right now I'm having the most fun in f1 23

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому

      ACC has become my favourite too. When I mention in the vid that I could count the number of clean races on one hand… well, they’ve been the ACC ones. I am really tempted by F1 23 though… the thought of a really immersive AI / offline series is very appealing.

    Hi Chris, unfortunately, there is people without self control on track. The BMW is guilty for the incident but the Astra's rejoin is unjustifiable. I think that these behaviors should be sanctioned.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +3

      Yeah, it was a huge mistake from the BMW, so I did sympathise with the Astra and why he felt so frustrated. But I lost that sympathy pretty quickly, after he took us all out 🤣 at least the BMW was an honest mistake… a missed braking point… we’ve all done it. The second part, was just reckless. Ahh well, hope for better luck next time 🤞

    So sad to see this Chris. Hope a little break reignites the fire! I had a nightmare last week on ACC LFM at Hungaroring but the contrast this week is stark. Watkins Glen (which was an ELO and SR killer last season) has been fantastic, I’ve climbed out or Rookies and am up to high Bronze+ and nearly 8.0 SR! Hope to see you back soon.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +1

      Brilliant! Yeah I usually find Watkins is a ratings killer… mainly because the walls are so close. Cars crash in front of you, but have nowhere to go but bounce back into the track! Good to hear you’ve had a positive week on it. Maybe I should have chosen that combo instead! I’ll be back soon… think I just need a break to recharge the batteries!

      You’re exactly right mate. In the video, I said I could count the number of clean races I’ve had on one hand. Well, all of those were ACC ones!

  • @shawndevore
    @shawndevore 11 місяців тому +1

    I totally understand. My ELO and Safety Rating have taken a beating this season on LFM for exactly the same reason. I thought maybe it was my driving, but it seems as though the more people that have Joined LFM, its really brought out drivers that could really use some lessons. maybe they should make it a little harder to get out of Rookies. The last two weeks were on tracks that I should have done really good at but i've been taken out of every single race where when I've been in a top 10 position for stupid mistakes just like the poor race re-entry you got dealt here. its super frustrating to the point that I have considered taking a break from or leaving LFM all together. My main frustration is my saftey rating and ELO get destroyed for things that I have no control over its an issue that I have with LFm and Iracing to a lesser extent.

    This is why I stick to iRacing, the cost barrier and SR/IR system weed out the worst of these drivers, it's not perfect and I still occasionally have to take a few hours/days off but it always pulls me back. Take your time mate and see you on track.

      Thank you mate. The really frustrating thing, is that it’s such an isolated incident. The way we all got through T1 safely suggests this was a really respectful and fair grid. But then there’s just one moment of madness, and I’m in exactly the wrong place, at the wrong time. Had I missed it, I’m sure it would have been a cracking race.

    I'm really sorry you had a bad race man. It must be soul destroying when you don't get many opportunities to get online. It would be really good if they released some guidance on which tracks and series have the most incidents. It would be really helpful for those who don't get much time to race, and they have the data.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +2

      Thank you mate. I think most of the time it just comes down to bad luck… and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The way everybody got through T1 safely suggests this was a really clean grid. Just one moment of madness, from one driver. If I’d have missed it by just 1 second, it would probably have been a fantastic race!

  • @EhPlusSimRacing
    @EhPlusSimRacing 11 місяців тому +1

    This is why i mainly do private community races, and only occasionally ranked events. Enjoyable races were far outnumbered by frustrating ones in public servers, whether it was ranked or not.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, that’s how I’ve been looking at it… the ratio of enjoyable races versus non-enjoyable ones. Its usually around 50/50, which I can take. But this past 2 months, it’s probably been like 80/20 in favour of bad races. So that’s just too much for me, and why I’ve decided to step back from it. I think you’re spot on… private or community races will be a good way for me to start enjoying it again. Thanks mate 😃

  • @LDFR
    @LDFR 11 місяців тому +1

    Hey Chris mate, completely understandable that you're fed up and need a break. Some things just cannot be explained, such as that driver purposely accelerating into a column of incoming cars, and you (out of all people) having to punctually get caught in that, on your one weekly race. That's just straight up rotten luck and I feel for you man.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you Lorenzo, appreciate that man. I actually did an earlier race and got wiped out at exactly the same corner on lap 3 in that one! I wasn’t as annoyed because I was to blame… I had a little slide mid-corner, had to correct it which meant I didn’t get on the gas as early as usual. It caught the guy out behind and he ran into the back of me. But that one was on me, if I’d not had the slide, I wouldn’t have been hit. I came into this one knowing it was my last race of the week, and boy did it hurt when it was over on lap 2!

    Chris, you have one of the best racing channels out there! I hope you find your drive to, uh, drive soon! ;-) I gotta say once again, you should join a league/club and race there. I know you've said finding the time is hard, and you like to try different sims and racing series. But I think that's the only way you can truly enjoy racing. For as good as LFM is, it's still basically just open public lobbies, which are the worst place to race if you don't want to get punted by drivers who don't give a $#!^.

    LOve your content mate, as an ageing sim racer I totally get where youre coming from. Im spending a lot of time on ps4 gt7 the current daily race Bathurst in the group3 highlights how good ghosting can sometimes be in helping the flow , gameplay and most importantly fun.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, the more frustrated I get with this, the more I warm to the idea of ghosting. I was always dead against it in my early sim racing days, because I wanted it to feel as realistic as possible. But after so many incidents like this, I’m siding towards going back to a more ‘video game’ feel - compromising a bit of realism for the sake of completing races and enjoying it again. Thanks 😃

    • @revelationrevolution153
      @revelationrevolution153 11 місяців тому

      I was worried it would make me a lazier driver and ingrain bad habits but the benefits of vastly increased track time and race experience are more important to the casual racer. Gt7 seems to have the balance almost right where it’s not so sensitive it ruins all race craft .

    I watched this video about 20 times, and not for the reason you all might think. I am devastated that Chris might take a break from racing and producing videos. Chris, your videos are one of the reasons I got in to sim racing in the first place. I have said it in the past and I'll say it again, I want to race with you. Times just never seem to work out since I live in North America. Please, remember that there will always be drivers who have moments and make bad decisions. I would love to see you in a series that has penalties for such actions. A series with moderators that take actions against such things. I truly do hope you don't take break and continue to race and produce videos. Cheers mate!

    I was in the same position. I just wanted to farm SR in ACC on Kylami sprint but got collected way to often. I even tried to start from the back, but still people are just not careful enough. At this point I started reporting everyone who did not apologized. And I stayed away from sprint races because people are less aggressive in longer races. Also some racetrack provoke more crashes than others, so I will never race on track like Kylami, Bathursts anymore.

    Sorry about your race Chris....I had a similar experience not too long ago and my enthusiasm was tested to the limit....I rethought my approach and it seems practice and consistency were the problem causing racecraft to suffer....I see you don't have too much time on your chosen sim so possibly focus on one for now to fine tune your approach....speed doesn't seem to be your problem and it isn't your fault but maybe let the others take the strain when the accidents happen.

      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +1

      You’re absolutely right. I’ve noticed it too. Lower splits seem to be more honest mistakes. The past 5-6 weeks have been the worst I’ve experienced, and it’s also coincided with me racing in a higher split than I ever have before. Seems more people up here have impressive speed, but maybe not the ability or discipline to control it properly.

It also coincides with me racing in a higher split than I ever have done before. Clearly there are a lot of fast drivers, who maybe lack a bit of control, composure or discipline.

    My finger was hovering over the join button for this race but the driving gods saved me, phone went and missed it. Your lust for full grids is probably your downfall, there's not enough splits to segregate the chaff. You need to join us in the Legends next week at Mont Tremblant, beautiful track, fair racing and with these cars, bloody hilarious. We allow people of all abilities, so don't be shy, we won't bite! 😂

      Ahh thank you, yes I will make another Wednesday appearance soon. Saw those cars on itv at the weekend and thought they looked great fun. Think I raced them once before in AC. As for this race, after all getting through T1 ok, I thought “we’re in for a good one here”. Then WHAM! 🤦🏻‍♂️

      @@chrisrogerssimracing Have absolutely no idea what the idiot at the chicane was doing. Looked more a move in anger, rather than an honest attempt to rejoin. Mind you, I have tried to spin the car by dropping the clutch and just getting loads of grip and piling into a wall on the odd occasion, pretty sure that looked strange to an onlooker. 😂

    Chris this is very sad news in deed and the community, your followers and SIM racing will sorely miss your enthusiasm and unique channel content.
    But please confirm these incidents and actions are generally found in 'public' lobbies so for those new to online racing and seeing this YT know this is not the standard of online racing that can be found in well managed and structured communities regardless of the platform and vehicle class.
    I am sure we all wish you very well and hope you will once again venture back to YT to bring us your thoroughly enjoyable recount of your SIM racing adventures

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому

      Absolutely, the smaller and more tightly-knit the community, the better the racing. When you have huge participation or open lobbies, you’re always going to get one moment of madness somewhere. And that’s all this was. The race would have been great, otherwise… the way everybody got through Monza T1 safely shows it was a pretty respectful grid. Just one guy lost his head for a moment, and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’d love to do more smaller community racing, but rarely feel awake enough to race in the evenings when most communities run. I prefer an afternoon race, which is why open lobbies suit me better. But I’ve had to draw a line under them for now, the odds of me enjoying/finishing a race just aren’t good at the moment. I’ll be back soon!

    bad times bro. I haven't seen any stupid drivers for a couple of years now. The only thing I can recommend is getting your irating above 2.5k. Easier said than done when you're getting wrecked though

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому

      Yeah, I think the 2.5k ballpark is a little out of reach for me, with the infrequency that I race. I only do 1-2 races a week, so if I do have a disaster and lose -100 irating, it usually takes me a month to get it back. If I could do a few races each day, I’m sure it would be easier. I’ve made it up to 1.8k and think that’s as far as I’ll realistically go.

    I had seen a couple of racers than race with a fixed group. It improves the racing a lot. It actually adds a little flavor to the videos as there can be a lot of friendly jabber between them. Maybe you could put something together with your subs. It is hard if you do not have regular times to race. I am thinking use something like Sim Racing System then let subs know when you will be able to race with a day or two notice.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому

      Yeah you’re exactly right. My previous rf2 BTCC video was a community race, and it was so much better than this. I think now is the time for me to do more league / community stuff. Trouble is, I’m not much of an evening racer. I prefer to do a race mid or late afternoon, before I get too tired. And there aren’t so much community options at that time of the day.

    I wish these races be judged afterwards and this type of thing be made a disqualifying action from the series. Not banned outright, but moved to a "I'm with stoopid" class where they can do this to each other to their heart's content.

      Cheers, yeah to be fair, LFM is really good with its reporting system. They will act quickly and publish results of protests, hand out punishments and advise drivers what to do differently next time. Of all the sim platforms, it’s the best protest system I’ve seen. Hopefully it will help this guy not do the same thing in future 🤞

    Everyone knows this extremely frustrating time. In addition, the popularity of sim racing makes it harder to find "good" races. I often wonder if some people wouldn't be better off with an arcade racer. But who am I to judge?

    Hey Chris, tough break that one, This is the sole reason I packed up online racing, at least I can predict to some degree what AI cars are doing. What were the repercussions from LFM For the driving standards? Have you thought about setting up your own server? Have a brake, have a kitkat. J

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 місяців тому +1

      I filed a protest with LFM but haven’t seen an outcome yet. I guess usually it would be a rating penalty. Imagine it would only be a ban if it’s a repeat offence. We’ll see how they view it. I did used to host some servers back in the early days when I co-ran the SCB community, but must admit it got a bit too time-consuming to do on a regular basis. But maybe some one-off special events could be do-able. I’ll have a think 😃

    Mate, what a disaster that race was! Please report the guy, who drove in the wrong direction although he saw the oncoming traffic. Than at least he will for some time not ruin any further races. And to calm yourself and get over the frustrating races, give at LFM ACC and the BMW M2 Cup a try! The races start mostly with just one split but you can have a lot of fun there and find fair drivers of every pace. In your LFM profile it is clearly visible that you never tried the M2 at LFM. Change that! Now! Please! 😀

      Hello mate, LFM is not the quickest to sign up to. Registering is easy, but to get a licence takes a bit of time… you have to do an extended time trial on a practice server… hit a certain number of clean laps, and hit a time target for those laps combined.
