- This is one of my favorite piano recordings, I find this to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music. Rachmanninoff does an extraordinary job voicing, phrasing and playing with such a nice rubato. This piece is undoubtedly the most famous thing Sgambati ever wrote, it is an arrangement of a melody from Glucks from Orfeo ed Euridice.
Recorded May 14, 1925
There is also a reconstruction of a piano roll recording which is very nice: • Gluck-Sgambati: Melodi...
How clear is it... Really extraordinary, also the piece itself, which is my favorite... But Rachmaninoff, other than a great composer, is a great pianist... Really mesmerizing...😍😍😍😍
This is one of those recordings that brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful.
Thank you very much to have shared this recording my friend. We dont hear this piece, and hearing Rachmaninov himself playing it is incredible. Rachmnaninov had big hands for sure, but he also had fairy fingers!
Wow....2 greats meet in this recording....Gluck and Rachmaninoff. Stunning.
Beautiful.
I had no idea this recording even exists. What a breathtaking gem.
Fino y bello regalo para el alma
Gracias 😊
Magic.
Rach truly is the GOAT of piano, I wish I could do a trill like 2:40...
AMAZING PLAYING! Absolutely beautiful 😁😍🎼🎵🎶 (Now listen to Yuja Wang play this piece as an encore - or should I say "slaughter" this piece!)
Although Rachmaninov plays it beautifully, I believe the triplets in bars 2 and 4 should be played as part of the melody rather than the grace notes.
