Humanity is a lot of rude and ignorant people. These masterpieces are created by individuals who raise above those animal instincts and aren't a part of those masses. Usually they suffer for being different.
No, no, no. Horowitz was good but he did not have the perfect phrasing Rachmaninoff had. And he was not a composer. I'm talking about the total package here.
+Linda Cunningham he played rach's pieces better than rach himself .. ( rachs words) Of purse , he wasn't a composer , but as a pianist , he was in the same level as rachmaninoff ,or maybe even better .
the greatness of his art was that his expression is so concentrated, almost stoic, yet within a single note he manages to say more than anyone else could with all the pieces ever played. this is why Rachmaninov cannot be imitated. even the greats like Richter or maybe Horowitz could be imitated by some truly great musician, Rachmaninov's art however cannot be imitated. that's why he will always remain the greatest pianist ever recorded (probably...).
Whether its Rach or not, what makes this recording special, compared to other versions on youtube, beside other things, is that the left hand has its own story and voice and not just following the right hand.
Totally! I also love it on violin (m.ua-cam.com/video/BlZmD8gLWEk/v-deo.html) and on viola (m.ua-cam.com/video/M1PAhHpizNs/v-deo.html)... Each different but always beautiful:)
The delicacy of "Melodie" points to another realm, a creative, fascinating world of contacting life in it's best and most sensitive form. It's an attempt to express the ineffable, transcendental mood of humanity without countries, war, or carnivorous religion. Future slaughter seems inevitable now if the irritated planet doesn't finish us off with a really thorough pandemic first, however, I have the sheet music to every delectable note of this remarkable work. If I invest precious time that is left to me in life then it may be worth it to share with my significant other, but not much of the world will hear it probably, they still bent on procreation and destruction. Nonetheless, a smaller carbon footprint from me, so the animals and the plants will know and they always have a way of thanking me.
Absolutely marvelous ! This, Guiomar Novaes and Nelson Freire's versions are the utmost performances for this masterpiece ! JAL, From Brazil, South América
What an amazing find! I love Rachmaninoff's unsentimentality and matter-of-fact way of saying things. All his recordings reveal this kind of purity in expression. Thanks for sharing!
There will never again be such perfection at the piano. The rubato is perfect and adds to the beauty of his playing. This is a hard piece to learn and after hearing this performance I think I'll stick to listening to Sergi's unforgettable performance.
Fantastic new transfer ! i hope you will do the same with other recordings that are awaiting that , such as all the Scriabin (with the fantastic Sonata 2 & 3 and the Etudes) , the Liszt Sonata by D'Albert , the Godowsky , Busoni & Debussy recording that were so much terribly treated by the 'Condom collection" . All those waiting to be treated "as well" as everything so wonderfully done for Rachmaninov ! Please do it !
Completely agree! Is there any chance we could listen to the revitalized Rachmaninoff's piano play both for his and others' works(such as Chopin, Liszt)? I guess that would be a fantastic dream come true. This piece is just soooo vintage!!!
Nicolas Horvath ..Actually this is from a piano roll that Rachmaninoff made for Ampico played back on a special Bosendorfer reproducing piano thus the crystal clear sound and stereo.
I had thought Kissen's interpretation best understood the heart of this music, but I had not heard Rachmaninov's until now. Brings tears to my eyes to listen to this heartrending piece at the hands of the master.
This IS Rachmaninoff and it is likely that there will never be another pianist like him.Easily the best version of this piece. It's too bad that transcriptions are out of favor because there are many beautiful ones. Godowsky was a master of transcription as was Liszt!
I've seen Kissen and others, Kissen could play a 1000 years and still never dream of being even close to Serge .. a true artist and composer as no other.
Heavenly music. I think this is a lot purer and much more effective than the orchestral version The best interpretation of this piece, better than Sultanov and Wild. Also much better quality of sound with less noise.
He is playing the piano with his left hand, performing the violin with his right hand, and singing with whole heart!
Finely said!
Deliciously sad piece. It speaks of loss, of the unattainable, of the glory and the tragedy of being human. Played with perfect delicacy by a master.
Antonio Casella sir, It's beautifully delicate. So tender and kind. So dedicated to someone loved
How wonderful...
I often wonder why humanity is able to create these beauties and be ruthless and unfair at the same time.
It is the nature of this world and human kind. The juxtaposition of opposites. The greatest beauty existing will the greatest ugliest/evil.
Because the fire burns and makes worm in the same time...
444thealis Sorry: warm and not worm !!!
Humanity is a lot of rude and ignorant people. These masterpieces are created by individuals who raise above those animal instincts and aren't a part of those masses. Usually they suffer for being different.

There has never been nor will there ever be anyone like Sergei Rachmaninoff
Horowitz

Ah well, each to his own. It's beautiful music, beautifully played by a wonderful man, composer and pianist. Comparisons aren't necessary.
I agree

Very well said, and I absolutely agree.
❤

It's Rachmaninoff all right. I have the old album.
This is from heaven.
For sûre

I know Nelson Freire's version and this! They run deeply through my heart!
How many times can I listen to this and it's more beautiful then the last time
yes! me too!! 😳
Totally! I also love it on violin
(m.ua-cam.com/video/BlZmD8gLWEk/v-deo.html) and on viola
(m.ua-cam.com/video/M1PAhHpizNs/v-deo.html)...
Each different but always beautiful:)
absolutely unbelievable. The sheer tone coming from the piano is all of Rachmaninovs being. No other pianist is this sincere in their playing
Heavenly beautiful, profound, deeply melancholic….impressive performance
Mr. Rachmaninov, sir, this is ethereal and I thank you. 💙🌷🌷🌷 (Holland-eu)
Emocionante!!!!!
Simply breathtaking and on a different level to mere mortals......
Hard to listen without bringing tears in your eyes....

Can you share your sheet music with me please? I don’t know where to find this beautiful version , thanks!
Absolutely marvelous ! This, Guiomar Novaes and Nelson Freire's versions are the utmost performances for this masterpiece ! JAL, From Brazil, South América
Agreed
I grew up listening to Novaes. She had the magical quality of being able to make even the most heartbreaking melody seem like a glimpse into joy
This is Rachmaninoff, can't mistake the trills at 2:00 and at the end for
anybody else's, and the clarity, the passion, the genius....
His trills are otherworldly.
That was a thrill to hear him play. 👏🎹
Lepota za vecnost!
Marvelous! Beautiful to tears. Thank you.
😇☺️😊😀😁😂😃😄😅😆😇😉🙂🙃😍😜😝😋😗😙😘😚😎😌🤓🤗🙏🙋😻😸😹😺

This is exquisite, beyond words. So much clearer and brilliant sound than on the CD "A window in time".
But this is from the CD "a window in time".

@@1955etienne I didn't know this Guiomar Novaes recording - also very beautiful and yes, much stricter rhythmically and starker. Thanks!
Extraordinarios compositor y pianista De los grandes.

Very very good!
Lindíssima interpretação. Tão bom tudo.
Stunning!... As always... Shared on Google+
Exquisite playing by Rachmaninoff.

The most sophisticated perform with piano what I've ever heard. Beautiful, beyond words.
Pure as a desert breeze. Otherworldly.
Such beautiful melody!!!. It goes direct to my heart.

Thanks voland 60! Very simply, he's got it. Nothing else to say. Thanks also to Bosendorfer for their 290SE, a fabulous time-travel machine.
i think this is rachmaninoff...and is the best version of this i have heard...
Amazing!
Well stated.....
PRICELESS! Rachmaninoff, the genius.
Marvelous rendition by Rachmaninov ! Other pianists, too, gave such emotional interpretations :Novaes, Freire, and now Yuja Wang...
Can there be anything more beautiful than this?
I've seen Kissen and others, Kissen could play a 1000 years and still never dream of being even close to Serge .. a true artist and composer as no other.
Sadri Alışık'a SAYGILAR...
Sad melody for gloomy winter day, provocative brown study The performance is great.
INCREDIBLE!!!
Seems to have a very good recording quality for recording made such a long time ago.
Heavenly music. I think this is a lot purer and much more effective than the orchestral version The best interpretation of this piece, better than Sultanov and Wild. Also much better quality of sound with less noise.
Meraviglioso!!!!
Sublime.....
From that very first trill, you know a master is at the keyboard.
