im a 2002 baby and i remember being 11 years old jamming to Stronger in my room from my blackberry curve, little did i know that it would slingshot me into the world of Kanye west , almost 10 years later and this album will always have the most special place in my heart
Since I didn't see anyone mentioning this:
The use of the quirky, high pitched "na-na-na" from Michael Jackson's PYT (pretty young thing) in Kanye's "Good Life" is one of the best cases of sample usage I have ever heard.
It fits the song so so well! Just wanted to leave that here.
College Dropout and Late Registration are incredible classics but this one has some certain element of nostalgia that the others do not have. Can't wait to see dad listening to my favorite Ye's album and arguably the most influential, 808s and heartbreak.
Can’t wait for the 808s reaction

I love this album, not a favorite but definitely one I really enjoy. This and 808s have some very good vibe songs.
Good vibe but is drowned out by commercialism imo
@@olliecattle4370 eh... It definitely is more of a radio jamz type project. But still very good.
Although I think there are more influential, experimental, versatile and even more creative Kanye albums, this is his most enjoyable, feel good album, and it is my favorite and the first one I’ve heard from Kanye
This would be true without Barry bonds and drunk and hot girls. Those songs make it an 8 for me
Your dad is cool no question about it and the son is mad chill. If your dad can do an in-depth analysis on yeezus and 808s and heartbreak to understand the emotion behind it would be amazing. I like how you don't mind your Dad speaking his mind. I respect that. As I listen to these albums again with you both I'm starting to realize the concept behind kanyes progression in production on the albums being related to the chronical progression of his album titles from college drop out to graduation... after graduation he breaks out into full exploration in his production.
Originally after Graduation would be Good Ass Job, but got scrapped after the tragic events that led up to 808s, He continued after 808 but then the Taylor Swift Incident broke out and he canceled it making MBDTF.
Exactly! I wish they had done it in order
It really looked like they reversed roles or something lol

“Can’t Tell Me Nothing” was produced by DJ Toomp. The percussion sound that your Dad loves in that song is Toomp’s trademark. You hear it in “Big Brother” too which he alsp produced. “Toomp killed this shit!” - Kanye says at the end of the song.
Lol I read “Toomp killed this shit!” in your comment right as they were listening to it on Big Brother
From my understanding, Toomp's percussion was sampled off the Jeezy song and that's the entirety of his contribution. All the rest, the vocal chopping and the horns were added by Kanye himself.

808’s and Heartbreak is next and I cannot wait! Kanye changed the game with that one!! The one thing I would like to say about Graduation is that at that time 50 Cent was killing the rap game. I specifically remember Kanye switching release dates on his album to come out the same week as 50’s Curtis album. A bold move on Kanye’s part. 50 laughed it off and basically suggested Kanye was crazy to try to challenge him at the time. Low and behold Kanye sold over 900,000 units the first week to take the #1 spot. 50 sold 600,000. Their careers have never been the same since.
They had a fake rivalry but it was to promote them both. 50 cent predicted Kanye would outsell him
50 knew kanye would outsell him, because 50s label didn't put the effort in promoting his album. So 50 decided to challenge Kanye as he was promoted heavily by jay-z's label, pretty smart move to promote your own album through another artist with another label. Smart move right there, that's why 50 making great business deals.
@@ismo9529 smart
@@ismo9529 that’s not how that went at all 😂. 50 thought he was crush Kanye that’s why he said he would retire if Kanye outsold him.. Kanye just out hustled him. Inter scope thought they had it in the bag
@@keithdoubleo7428 what I'm saying is straight facts. 50 wrote about it in his book and Kanye talked about it. Both stories seem to be the same. 50 didn't even retire after that, and you believing that shows how this was a good executed marketing trick. Rappers beefing creates sales, the same way you ll be seeing Kanye beefing with drake before dropping an album and afterwards partying together. Gullible kids tend to believe anything that's told to them.
Kanye shows on all his songs how well of a producer he actually is. The music draws you into a mood that he creates. Hate this man all you want, admire greatness though.
Yh even if for some reason nobody wanted to work with him ever again and he lost all his wealth, he could create hits with a laptop and a mic and be on top. As you said, love him or hate him, but he is 1 of 1.
might not my favorite artist nor song writer BUT he is definitely my favorite producer, best one I've ever listened to
these kanye reaction videos make me so happy. i dont have anyone to enjoy this music to and react with so i feel like im right there with you guys bopping my head and vibing. appreciate this.
Every time I watch one of your videos I find myself falling in love again with an album I already loved.

Changed rap low key, my favorite Kanye album. Or “Ye” album
I agree with the "Everything I'm not, made me everything I am".
It's my favorite Kanye line, it just hits different.
Such a good line
There’s also the first line of the song that tells the literal story on how this song came to be “common passed on this beat I made it to a jam” he was gonna give it to common but common past on the beat.

to be fair, Graduation probably opens with Kanye's best 6-7 track run of his career, so it has to drop at some point. And to DHG's credit, I still think the production is pretty dope.
i will never understand the hate for drunk and hot girls it’s literally so good?? wtf is wrong with y’all
@@blondedivy its a kinda goofy song, and it stops the god tier song streak. I like it enough (especially the orchestral part), but i understand why people don't like it
@@blondedivy that's one of my favourite songs on there, he wasn't trying too hard to do anything. its like... he just made a song.
Barry Bonds is also a miss for me
@@blondedivy I don't get how u can think that lol
When it zoomed in on Connor’s face and played drunk and hot girls after his dad asked if there was a bad song I litterally died
Crazy that stronger was the most popular track in graduation it was destined to be a mega hit and is still listened too in modern times and aged well in todays day in age and I still listen to stronger everyday or every other day.
barry bonds is my favorite song from the album
@@literallyinsanelycool28 how the fuck
@@ae7457 it’s a good song is there something wrong w that?
@@literallyinsanelycool28 big brother for me is A underdog song in graduation i grew into to like it more.
Dad every album- "I got [insert body part] shivers."
It’s fun to see someone who really knows music analyze these albums.
I've listened to this album SO many times
But this is the first time I've realised EVERY, TRACK, IS, A, CLASSIC!
Thanks, guys
This channel is amazing. Love the energy and context given in each conversation/reaction
Good Life is actually a Michael Jackson sample! He slowed down PYT and chopped it up to make this amazing record, I almost couldn’t believe it when I found out
I love how he's like "I love special and unique production, can't wait wait for the next one" and we all thought "808's is gonna make him insane" 😂
The unforgettable analogy was absolutely perfect love hearing your opinion on songs and opening my eyes to new angles
Just got this on a bootleg vinyl. Soooo much nostalgia for this album, and seeing your dad enjoying it is awesome
Where did you get the vinyl if you don’t mind me asking, I’ve been looking for one
@@wellthenlol9500 EarCandy, though it’s pretty expensive and I only bought it from them because it was my only option at the time. It was still worth it tho. I recommend looking around online sellers before settling on EarCandy
Once you finish Kanye’s discography, y’all should do a ranking of all the albums
"I Wonder" is such an underrated song from this album, one of his best raps
Most definitely not underrated it’s one a the most praised Kanye songs.
@@trenhen4311 I remember people fussing more over the commercial hits like 'Stronger', 'Good life', 'Flashing lights' etc. when the album came out but it's hard to put a number on what's overrated and underrated I guess
I Wonder, Stronger, Flashing Lights, and Can’t Tell Me Nothing are the most praised songs on this album
@@solkimmyjones when the album came out definitely I mean I was like 3 when that happened. Now it’s between homecoming and I wonder for the most part.
@@trenhen4311 jesus that makes me feel old lol
Man, the relationship y’all continue to develop through music is so sick. I don’t have much of a relationship with my dad and I would murder for it. Love these videos, bro.
There are only a handful of albums I've ever heard in my life where I could just hit shuffle and every song is awesome. Graduation is one of them. I won't pretend to be the biggest hip-hop fan of all time, because it's not my favorite genre, but man, Kanye is special.
what are other albums? this is one of maybe 3 that I can say that about personally
If your pops loves this type of Kanye sound he’s definitely gonna love 808s 😭
To hear a father dissect a song like I wonder and have all these questions and understandings on the production like I did as a 15 year old first hearing this is honestly mind blowing to me… a lot of men Kevin’s age would just be like “ get that crap off” but he understand the brilliance in Kanye and it’s honestly refreshing
I think he was a musician before doing these videos, so I guess he's looking for things anyway. Really fun to watch him interact with new music.
I am 60 years old and My son and I listen to rap together. It’s not your dad’s rap anymore
Champion is probably my favorite song on the album its the song that gets me up in the morning after a hard says work.
You two have great chemistry. And thanks for reminding me I gotta go replay this album!
You are so lucky to have a dad who is so open-minded about stuff that clearly means so much to you, I wish my dad would have taken interest in my passions when he was around.
Best thing to do is be open minded to your own kids now ;) as you know how much it can mean

@@josephsu95 took the words right out my mouth. Break that curse sir
This album deserves a spot on the wall it’s just that iconic
Sadly doesn’t have an official vinyl release however there is are import pressings online
I am so HAPPY that you mentioned how amazing T Pain's voice is without autotone. Whenever I mention/show his raw voice to people they are shocked!! Good on you!!
