    This was such an insightful video, Wesley. I’ve been trying to improve on as an indie developer working on my first game (Starborne Whispers). I find it can be intimidating to reach out to other developers, especially as a newcomer to the industry, but I’m learning that it’s all about building genuine connections. Thank you for sharing your experience - this has been really motivating! ❤

    tip for distinguishing object types, add some sort of effect to code the types in, like add an obvious dropshadow to platforms, adding like a subtle red glow to blockades as they approach, and hint the dropshadow only the collision part so jumpthru platforms can be noticed

      Yeah, I could have done more work making each one more obvious, it's definitely possible. (Using some of the things you said)
      But for a game made this quickly, I just ripped out the things that were causing issue. I had Vimlark play the game twice, along with some playtesters, and removed things that gave them trouble.(Like that truck)

    WAIT WHAT??? Newgrounds is still a thing :D? I knew this page 20 years ago and they still put out indi dev games? nice :D

    • @HelperWesley

      I know right!? I was surprised when I stumbled on it a few years ago.
      Newgrounds predates Google, and yet it's still going strong.
      Not as big as the early days, but my games usually get 5k-30k plays on there.(way better than most sites for my random small web games. 😅)

    Man somehow ive missed the vimjams 3 years in a row
    (Also i have a guess for the reason that delta chase became your most viewed video
    Its prolly because of the art of the character just a guess)

    • @HelperWesley
      @HelperWesley  4 дні тому

      I did the first two VimJams because I really wanted to do them, and now I've done 3, 4, and 5 because I really don't want to miss them. 😅
      I've done a bit of searching, and back when Delta Chase was first released, the video on it was the first thing that showed up when you typed in "GDevelop". I can watch the graph of it's views going up along with GDevelop searches on google trends.
      But yes, the pretty art and music 100% helped it. LightSpeed6 and Ansimuz are both very talented people.

    i think you are too obsessed by leader board when it means something only when your game is not broke.
    You waste lot of time for a single player game.
    Also i feel you spend too much time just on art instead of making the game first without art, then adding art.

    • @ravenanne1734
      @ravenanne1734 4 дні тому

      The things you mentioned were premade and probably took ony a couple hours max. Being elitist like that isn't a cool look, art is VERY important and for something like a game jam you REALLY need the art sorted.

    • @Ryöken17
      @Ryöken17 4 дні тому

      @ravenanne1734 i think a game jam is for learning, if you spend half the time to just burrow art to have a good looking game, you forget the spirit of a game jam, we don't care if it's beautiful, it's a challenge to finish a game with certains condition. If you just implement art, it's not even a game.
