I have to say, I’ve recently recovered my old binder of cards and wanted to get into collecting more of the vintage ones but didn’t know how to go in about it. Out of all the other YuGiOh UA-camrs, you are by far, the most informative. Definitely subbed!
most educational Yu Gi Oh youtuber out there speaking the real shit and still being more educational than any other channel I've come across. cant wait for you to blow up, subbed!
the research part is a ridiculously important part of not even buying vintage, but modern as well. Modern I would argue requires an even greater deal of research and experience, since you have to predict what will get reprinted, what will be good, what will be banned. Let's say you are planning on even modern cards, sellers will consistently lie that they have the best price and you should buy from them. Then you wait a few days later and you see a better deal, and the other seller refuses to match. Especially when news comes out, it is very easy to get excited and start spending money. If you are selling, I would never ever sell under buylist. Do tons of research before sinking any money into modern product. Also an important part of buying boxes is they can be mapped, where someone can hit the starlight/ghost then sell off the rest. So many sellers I talked to denies mapping but it happens all the time.
Really enjoyed this vid my friend. Looking to get into the investing side of Yugioh myself. I really like how you present your talking points, clear cut, straight to the point. Keep up the good work my friend
I bought sooooo many gx Yu-Gi-Oh cards like 3 years back now my collection is crazy before the craze even happened I even over payed at the time for my cards aswell
This is all true. I do make money flipping cards but not significant money. Just enough to keep doing it without taking a loss. Buts its more for the fun and nostalgia of opening packs hoping for a big hit. Honestly right now scalpers are probably making the most money
I love the old cards. Remind me of my childhood and have been expanding my old collection. Here’s my question: What about unlimited early prints? The reason I ask this is because say you have an LOB unlimited polymerization but it’s got the [Magic Card] instead of spell. I see that being a subset of valuable vintage cards because reprint LOB and MRD will say [Spell]. What do you think?
that would fall into the vintage category, his main point is to be sure there is proof of vintage on a card or any card really because that's what makes it valuable.
I feel like we need to take into consideration how stubborn sellers can be when they compare card prices to tcg etc. When like you said, their cards are *near mint*
Collections my obsessed friend had that he gave to me to take care of before moving overseas 3 years ago: -Every card that debuted in the original anime series in their first 1st ed. English printings with the anime artwork in the order they appeared, barring championship cards/ultimate rares (I added the few additional cards that have been released in the past 3 years) -Complete 1st ed. English Ghost Rare set (I bought Ra just to recomplete the set) -All 1st ed. English printings of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Dark Magician, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Dark Magician Girl (trying to recomplete these sets, Unlimited printings are used in places where the 1st ed. card is in the anime collection) -He tried to collect all the 1st ed. ultimate rares in the booster sets where even the rares could be ultimates (SOD-FOTB), but he was missing a few cards that were expensive even in 2017 At the moment, I'm just collecting cool cards should my friend ever return to save him some time, but if he never returns, then I guess it'll become an investment and I'll start selling everything. In the meantime, I'll just make videos showcasing his collection (only 1 video so far).
I had a guy change the description of the card on me right before I bought it. I read it and it said NM-M. I reached out and asked a few questions. I was hype and bought it when I got the card it was no where near mint lol I went back to check the post and saw he had changed it SMH!
Important rules to keep in mind when it comes to invest in Yu-Gi-Oh cards: Rule #1: Have 0 Debt!!! Make sure you pay all the bills & not owe anybody anything. Pay off your student loans & other debts first. Otherwise don't bother doing any investment when you still have a huge ass debt that is unpaid. Rule #2: Have a Savings Account. Future economy is uncertain & it's best to always have some savings as a form of security during trouble days. Best advice: have at least one or two Cert of Deposit in the bank as well as few government savings bond & regular savings account too. Rule #3: Research the things you about to invest CAREFULLY! I agree with this video that when it comes to investments, always research carefully BEFORE decide to invest. Investment is like gambling where you can still LOSE if you are not careful with research the things you invest in. Rule #4: when it comes to invest in Yu-Gi-Oh cards, best to invest in Vintage Yu-Gi-Oh (aka 2007 products & before). Buy mostly ORIGINAL FACTORY SEALED Yu-Gi-Oh products (i e sealed tins) & leave it sealed & unopened for LONG periods of time.
I guess I need to do some researching then I have a bunch of 1st edition stuff from when I was a kid. Never played the card game just loved collecting the cards and putting them in my binder to look at. Maybe I did something right as a kid.
Great video with how realistic the expectation should be with investing in Yu-Gi-Oh. I just recently started again and came to the same realizations as I started. I like the different ponts in this video compared to RogueDuelist's. This video definitely comes out strong but it needs to be said. I personally want to get modern products for future streams or recorded openings as well as feeling the excitement of opening a whole box or case. Growing up I never had the chance to get more than one boost pack, I'm happy that Yu-Gi-Oh is so popular now. Long story short, I like how this video gets to the point about doing research, with anything. It comes out a little harsh but it will save a lot of people a lot of money.
Just subbed thankyou brother.. i jjst ordered rage of ra with hopes of pulling the ghost ra .. i did all my research tho so i felt like for the price i payed with hopes of a payback was worth it . Buuut i never thought i was investing im doing this for fun .
Solid list sir :) Getting back into YGO since 2005. The world has changed, but glad to see that some of my old ass cards still hold some merit! Super into Pokemon as well. METAL! Hey speaking of, I have some fun TCG content and METAL music over on my channel if you have time someday sir. My season 2 will begin in a few weeks with more YGO content and more metal. Thanks again!
Hi again awesome info just wanted to know what happened to 1st edition magic cards as I have a few and can't find any information about these cards would really appreciate your help 👍
Keep the awesome videos coming, I love the channel. You have some great insights. Every new collector should be watching your channel. When I started collecting Yugioh again in 2017 the first thing I wanted was a 1st edition LOB box, but then after 5 minutes of research I found out half the boxes are fake and they’re a toxic pile of shit that no smart investor should touch with a ten foot pole. Nowadays i find it hilarious seeing all these youtube hype channels crying about their fake booster boxes, they obviously didn’t do that 5 minutes of research. I can’t wait to see them crying again in a few years when they go to sell their collection and find out all their cards are Asian English. Great channel dude keep up the good work.
Subbed love the honesty been selling and collecting 12 yrs. Question though brother. I’ve always sold Pokémon and magic and just got into yugioh literally less than half a year ago. I understand it mostly just why are there still first edition being printed now it’s makes no sense. I buy older but I see it everywhere and clearly that’s not first edition lol
Great vid. Honest question... how can I know the box is not fake? I know the basics, like the correct Konami logo and the Upper Deck logo on the side. Any other tips?
So with making profit in Yu-Gi-Oh cards, like how does someone start? Do I just buy the cheap packs and boosters hopefully get lucky and pull something to continue buying more expensive packs? Any advice is appreciated it thanks
I really love your channel, you keep it real and you’re funny as fuck man. Lol keep up the great content. You’re really informational and entertaining, your channel should be bigger honestly. You earned a subscriber. Thanks for your tips
I have a question: say there was an unlimited version of x card from LOB. But it's let's say the earliest reprint from only a year after. Is that considered the same as a reprint from right now? And if not is there a way to tell?
Hey! Found your channel not long ago, love that you don't bullshit around. I have a question that you might have answered elsewhere.. if so just send me there and I'll check it out. How about "investing" directly in PSA graded cards of old school set's first edition but in the lower grades say 7ish or 8ish? Does that make any sense or is that not a great idea, would love to hear some feedback, keep up the good job!
0:48 of course it works that way, it is proven that every sealed product of every era went up by now. Its more save than buying some vintage era graded cards for the same money who are at an all time high now.
Just subscribed!! I really enjoy your style for the video! Very informative, I've been buying some YuGiOh to open up, (LOB Reprint, very nostalgic for me, im 30) and you have answered a lot of things I was wondering! Subbed W/notifications, can't wait to watch some more vids! Keep it up!💪
Hello, I am a beginner in YGO investment. May I know where can I look for YGO cards history (eg price from 2000-2021), for both OCG and TCG(especially for OCG). Thanks
Recently I purchased a 1st Edition PSA 9 Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus but have run into an issue. The card appears ultimate rare but I have noticed the label itself does not read ultimate rare. I have noticed other PSA labels of this card does actually ready “Ultimate Rare” on the label.Does the label text make or break the authenticity of the card?
Glad to find a channel that covers vintage investing! Keep it up man and you are going to keep seeing success. So I focus on modern Yu-Gi-Oh! on my channel and it is more for the quick flip or maybe holding onto sealed product for roughly a year or so until value goes up. Modern is definitely far more volatile, but Konami has a pattern and you can make good margins depending on how much you buy of certain product. Modern is mostly meta dependent, which has a 6-12 month life, so you really need to be on top of the meta and when reprints may come in order to stay positive. There’s money to be made in both modern and vintage, but I agree vintage can be much more certain for long term investments or if you somehow come across a PSA 9/10 card before it is graded, snag it, and get it graded. Anyways, glad you are on UA-cam and look forward to your content!
Hi there! I've been listening to your vids for a while as well :) I agree money can be made in modern, but then you're more-so getting into the "flipper" and "vendor" game rather than the longer term investing. There's definitely plenty of money to be made there though!
@@solemnyugioh Well, glad to have someone representing vintage investing for Yu-Gi-Oh! - I have a lot of people asking me questions on vintage and I just have no experience. Glad I can point them to you and also learn myself 😅
Make a video talking about what cards in yugioh are investable. I collect Pokémon and magic and want to diversify. I know absolutely everything about Pokémon and magic but nothing about yugioh
So are the Asian English cards totally worthless? I have a mint 1st edition. corrected art MFC dark paladin and a mint 1st edition MFC dark magician girl and I was wondering if it is worth it to get those PSA graded or that I should just keep them in my collection.
Whats about booster Packs? I picked some packs for myself up last week. These Packs are 4-5 Years old. I dont like to open it at the moment. I just want to keep them in a box for a couple of years. There all 1 Edition Packs. Is that a good idea?
Yes! Keep it safe in a zip lock to preserve its pack condition. I put my LVAL booster packs in a zip locl since 2014 and the pack looks as new as it was in its original booster box.
I'm just getting back into it. Been collecting Pokemon for a bit and decided to dable in YuGiOh. My issue is figuring out which sets to invest in. I've been just getting Genesis Impact and Phantom Rage. If anyone knows any other sets I should get I'd greatly appreciate it.
I’d recommend blazing vortex they are $60 booster boxes and you can pull Pot of Prosperity which is going for $100 raw, and they have a bunch of other high values cards like Trishula (Tough Pull) and Armed Dragon both Starlight Rares are very valuable
I am looking for cards to buy from Yugi’s era from 1999-2004. Which sets are best? I’m only in for the nostalgia, and has to be affordable. The SDK, SDJ and SDY set are out of my price range.
I’m afraid that if SDY and SDK are out of your price range, the booster boxes from that era will be too. You could consider the reprints from walmart. They’re not vintage but the pack opening experience should be the same.
I have a question that may not have been asked before but out of curiosity, What happens when people disagree on their grades, crack them and get them regraded? Can an increase in pop cause slabs to drop? I'm assuming a small increase wouldn't but it just really made me wonder 🤣🤣
I have a binder full of Holo cards that have been in sleeves + binder for over like 15years, limited ed and 1st edition cards from 04 tins MINT af condition not a mark or speckle
I found it amusing at the very end of the video you mentioned investing in magic ruler 1st edition booster box, when I literally just purchased two of them....I hope they are real.
hey, i have a little question, you think it's a nice move, buy some new boosters box and hold them? the price will get higher in next few years? Nice video. i love it a lot
How do you feel about reprints regarding original arts of iconic cards as investments. Maybe like 2016 tin blue eyes? They are the anime art and have seen a decent increase recently.
I feel it's farrrr riskier. Could they go up? For sure. But if they go up hard, aren't there thousands of people with the exact same card, ready to list em? Pretty likely. I'd make sure to check if the card in question is being bought because someone is collecting it for a very specific reason or because someone is putting it in a deck as they wanted it in foil. If it's the latter, any reprint of said card in a fancy foil will devalue the card, as it's about playability+foil and not about its rarity or age. (This is why certain cards with many prints in fancy foils are less likely to go up unless they're in ulti, extremely old and rare OR another not-often-reprinted foil type) So like.. no one can predict the future, of course.. they could do well but I feel with anything more modern you're taking on a bit more risk.
@@solemnyugioh thank you. I will make sure to centre my newer investments around old shortprints and/or cards that don't pose as an immediate risk in price fluctuation.
Hey brother been learning allot from you. I have all 4 starter decks but all unlimited editions. Where those released more then once? I can't seem to find when they re dropped the 4 starter decks. They are also selling decently on ebay so im wondering the date they where re made. Sdk sdy sdp sdj
hey solemn got a question, what would you say is a better for collection, 1st edition secret from 10 years ago of unlimited edition from 20 years, for example exodia or breaker they come frm lob or mf n you can get them in unlimited or would you get them from lcyw in 1st edition which came out 10 years ago? I ask cos frm what you say, the older the better for investments n collections for 1st editions, but if u cant get them in 1st edition n only unlimited, would gettting them in 1st edition frm a later release but b4 the 2014-2015 boom would that still be worth getting if it were 1st editions?
I don't believe in lcyw. It's mega modern and not rare at all. Unlimiteds from 20 years ago are usually NOT from 20 years ago. Unlimiteds were reprinted into the ground. Some of these cards are simply expensive and trying too hard to get the cheapest option will just mean losing money.
well actually I went in to Walmart and pulled a holo Charizard from a XY Evolutions, plus i bet no one in the comment section can afford *first edition* or *vintage* so its hard to invest in cards when they cost 4k for a first edition and sitting on it just to make 3k more in 5 years
I see alot of reprints in these new booster boxes that says 1st ed. What's up with that? How can you reprint some old cards and still say it say 1st ed on it?
Me before the video: I want to invest in trading cards. Me after the video: On second thought, I’ll just invest my money in stocks, bonds, or in any of the other “boring” methods.
Its quite simple really. Just get nostalgia cards. Even for modern cards its easy to predict what will be nostalgic many years from now. Ash blossom is so staple that it can potentially be very nostalgic for zoomers down the road even when it stops being competitive. But honestly you should be getting the card because you personally like it and want to keep it in a collection. Treating it as a stonk to buy and hold and resell years later is extremely stupid. Just flip Yu-Gi-Oh cards instead, ull have more success
Hook me up lol I justed pulled my cards out of storage So if there is any white at all on the edges much less scratches it's pretty much game over regardless?
Really interesting video, subscribed! Would you suggest me to buy vintage cards first edition ALREADY graded from PSA? In your opinion is it more convenient buying, let’s say, jinzo 1st edition PSA 10 or looking for it in a sealed booster box?
Small correction - troll and toad also has different sellers which you can see on checkout if it's troll and toad direct or another seller. While all cards must be and are shipped from their warehouse, other sellers keep those inventory in their warehouse. So be aware which account you're buying from and keep it in mind!
One thing to ask yourself - if a seller is selling both graded cards and raw cards, why didn't they grade the raw cards and sell them for more? There's a chance they don't believe it would grade well.
I think it’s a stretch to say every seller is a liar. Pretty sure the ones with 5 stars and all good feedback are credible sellers. Cuz if they weren’t they wouldn’t have 5 stars and all good feed back
Since 2019 its a MUST to ask for fotos!everyone goes for money and doesnt give a fuck about the buyer. especially on cardmarket everyone lists Excellent cards as Near Mint Minus 🤮🤮
5:19 Psssh! I just buy them "near mint" and resell at quadruple the price I biught them from card shop at $1.75 to $25 even $60 and make a return. Putting cards to be graded is just a gamble. Don't even plan to do so ever! Ha!
Hi, Solemn YuGiOh! Love your content. I have a question that came to my mind. Do you think that cards from other YuGiOh formats will ever be valuable and good to invest? I'm talking about Speed Duels and Rush Duels, for example.
My main fear with those is that they could just get axed at any minute cuz of how underplayed they are. It'd turn into a temporary blip in our memories. They're also modern and thus mega printed and kept in solid condition. The one exception would be the prize cards for these, but I'm not versed enough there to give a real answer.
@@solemnyugioh If Speed Duels are axed than that should drive price even higher, because Konami wouldnt just reprint them ever again and they are easy distinguishable from the other reprints. They can still be used in the normal format unlike Rush Duel cards. Speed Duel Super/Ultra Rares are actually a lot harder to pull, its not guaranteed for every booster box of 4 cards to get one. There are way viewer Ultimate White Dragons and Meteor Black Dragons for Speed Duels out there than there are vintage counterparts.
I kinda disagree with his opinion on buying modern, like yea the population for good cards is gonna be larger, and better condition, but if u invest in vintage, u still gotta make the sale at one point. Like how hard is it gonna be to sell a 10k card. How many actual buyers, are out there spending 5k plus for a yugioh card. Those people are few. Id rather invest in stuff at the 100-500 dollar mark. And sell before it hits 5k, the sales will be easier, wider spectrum of buyers. And whe. Buying stuff, always look at the demand. Only buy the most popular stuff. Like an lob 1st edition box will actually be easy to sell for 20k or more, but a magic ruler at 5k? Not so much.
As a vintage collector, this was a super entertaining vid lol. So many valid points here. Subbed!
Appreciated! :)

Glad I can point them to you and also learn myself 😅
very generous advice, I admire you....
So are starlights and collectors rares a bad investment?
Make a video talking about what cards in yugioh are investable. I collect Pokémon and magic and want to diversify. I know absolutely everything about Pokémon and magic but nothing about yugioh
I fucks with your bluntness lol, I’m really a Pokémon collector looking at a yugioh tcg tip video 🤣🤣🤣
I have a binder full of Holo cards that have been in sleeves + binder for over like 15years, limited ed and 1st edition cards from 04 tins MINT af condition not a mark or speckle
hey I really need help... I got a hamon soi 1st ed ultimate rare and ive been thinking non stop if i should sell or hold
valid points
Bro the only Yu-Gi-Oh cards I stack is in master duels bro .... Am happy :)
How much is skuna, the leonine rakan WCPS-EN902 1st edition worth?
I found it amusing at the very end of the video you mentioned investing in magic ruler 1st edition booster box, when I literally just purchased two of them....I hope they are real.
Fucking love this guy and this video!!!
I have a mint lob unlimited blue-eyes should i grade it? Great videos
Your channel is amazing. The amount of times I heard, "fucked". Lol
Good info thx
hey, i have a little question, you think it's a nice move, buy some new boosters box and hold them? the price will get higher in next few years?
Nice video. i love it a lot
Best display to buy that has cards with the best worth of cards in?
What about the original MRL? Even it's unlimited?
(This is why certain cards with many prints in fancy foils are less likely to go up unless they're in ulti, extremely old and rare OR another not-often-reprinted foil type)
So like.. no one can predict the future, of course.. they could do well but I feel with anything more modern you're taking on a bit more risk.
@@solemnyugioh thank you. I will make sure to centre my newer investments around old shortprints and/or cards that don't pose as an immediate risk in price fluctuation.
8:40 was the starter deck stuff reprinted as well? SDY, SDK ect.
no, it was not
Hey brother been learning allot from you. I have all 4 starter decks but all unlimited editions. Where those released more then once? I can't seem to find when they re dropped the 4 starter decks. They are also selling decently on ebay so im wondering the date they where re made. Sdk sdy sdp sdj
The unlimited versions are some of the least valuable ones
What about buying limited edition (or unique) boxes and sitting on them for a years or 2, say the maximum gold series for example?
Maximum gold... yeah no
hey solemn got a question, what would you say is a better for collection, 1st edition secret from 10 years ago of unlimited edition from 20 years, for example exodia or breaker they come frm lob or mf n you can get them in unlimited or would you get them from lcyw in 1st edition which came out 10 years ago?
@@solemnyugioh cheers very imformative :)
well actually I went in to Walmart and pulled a holo Charizard from a XY Evolutions, plus i bet no one in the comment section can afford *first edition* or *vintage* so its hard to invest in cards when they cost 4k for a first edition and sitting on it just to make 3k more in 5 years
I see alot of reprints in these new booster boxes that says 1st ed. What's up with that? How can you reprint some old cards and still say it say 1st ed on it?
It’s the 1st edition of the reprint set. But they are easy to identify an original 1st edition vs a reprint set 1st edition
Me before the video: I want to invest in trading cards.
Me after the video: On second thought, I’ll just invest my money in stocks, bonds, or in any of the other “boring” methods.
near mint creases are the worst bro! LOL
True words! Thanks ;)
I've found portugues 1st edition sdk blue eyes white dragon...are foreing language cards worth buying?
There's value. It is the same as buying Korean or Japanese language TCGs. Must be mint and clear of wear and tear.
What are your favorite year's of products to invest in
2002-2003 :)
To da moon! 🌝
Hook me up lol
I justed pulled my cards out of storage
So if there is any white at all on the edges much less scratches it's pretty much game over regardless?
Oof! That's a sign of a card heavily played.
How do you know if a sealed booster box is real or not ?
Really interesting video, subscribed! Would you suggest me to buy vintage cards first edition ALREADY graded from PSA? In your opinion is it more convenient buying, let’s say, jinzo 1st edition PSA 10 or looking for it in a sealed booster box?
Converting sealed into singles is gambling. I’d suggest checking some more vids on the channel :) Already covered a lot of this
@@solemnyugioh thank you, I will!
Im a new yugioh collector. And Ghost from the past is literally my first set. Is this a good one to invest in long term?
I would rather go with Oldschool Sets!
Those people who bought ghost rare RA for $700+ oof
Big yikes indeed
And now is the best opportunity buy one
More bank for the seller.
Small correction - troll and toad also has different sellers which you can see on checkout if it's troll and toad direct or another seller. While all cards must be and are shipped from their warehouse, other sellers keep those inventory in their warehouse. So be aware which account you're buying from and keep it in mind!
Good to know!
One thing to ask yourself - if a seller is selling both graded cards and raw cards, why didn't they grade the raw cards and sell them for more? There's a chance they don't believe it would grade well.
Yup! that's another good one!
Love me some vintich
Awesome video, learned alot man. Earned a sub from me forsure!
solid valid points
I think it’s a stretch to say every seller is a liar. Pretty sure the ones with 5 stars and all good feedback are credible sellers. Cuz if they weren’t they wouldn’t have 5 stars and all good feed back
U earn a Sub! great explanation :)
Ha!
How do you buy a card near mint ?
@@saint0rleansofthe9th76 Third party card sellers. Singles

Where do you buy your cards from?
ebay, tcgplayer, other collectors
@@solemnyugioh What about Gamenerdz, RealGoodDeal, Toywiz, and CoolStuffInc TCG sellers? Want to know your input on them.
great video, thank you for telling it how it is lol
AmaIng video. Entertaining lol
