Nepotism is a bad thing. It takes away peoples dreams. For example, fire departments have a huge nepotism problem. There are kids that dream of being a fire fighter. The fire department only hires a finite number of people. Everyone that gets the job because their dad, uncle etc is a fireman or a union member means that someone that dreamed big didn't get it because the nepo baby stole it from them. Nepotism creates a system where the connected STEAL the opportunity. Shame on you for downplaying the privileged and entitlement of the connected. SHAME ON YOU!

There are people who have famous parents and never had a top 10 hit or gotten good movie roles so even though there are advantages (big ones) you still have to work hard

Yeah, try working hard all day as a waitress in a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 roommates, while squeezing in auditions that you get turned down constantly, compared to Gwyneth Paltrow who literally said she works twice as hard as that waitress who isn't connected. you can argue that having a famous last name will help you put your foot in the door, but that's not the case for most women in the industry, because actresses who rose to fame before marriage will tend to stick with their maiden name as their professional name, and since the children of an actress take on the last name of their father, it can be difficult to tell who's their famous mother unless the resemblance is uncanny or if u=you've been closely following their daily lives. It also doesn't help when the father is also famous, but his surname is pretty common. Like Dakota Johnson. Melanie Griffith is her mom, but you wouldn't know that just by looking at her last name, since "Johnson" is a pretty common last name in the US. Same can be said about Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn. Goldie Hawn has a very unique name while Kate Hudson has a pretty ordinary one. Not unlike the Kardashians where Kris Jenner rose to fame under her 2nd married name as the wife of athlete Bruce Jenner and the mother of his two daughters as well as her own 4 children from her previous marriage. Or Sharon Osborne, who rose to fame as the wife of Rock royalty Ozzy Osborne.

I really don't care how these entertainers got their first jobs, I only care how talented they are. Yes, having family in the business is a leg up but in order to have an actual career they need to have talent. Family connections will only go so far. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. is probably THE OG nepo baby. The most successful IMHO are Ron Howard and Jeff Bridges. Both eclipsed their parents very early in their careers but both got their start because of their parents. Bridges got a few guest roles on his father's TV show and Howard got his first role as a 2 year old because a movie his father was in needed a little kid so his dad brought him to the set.

Second, I have always been a TVholic, and I also never assumed that just because a celebrity shared the surname of another celebrity they were related. Yes, sometimes that is the case, such as Roxie Roker from "The Jeffersons" being related to Al Roker of "Today," also known as "The Today Show."
Finally, I fully agree with the celebrities who said that nepotism can actually be found in the business world. Perhaps because of recent events, but the name "Trump" springs to mind, especially when former number 45 was a United States president.

I believe you can be a Nepo Baby and still have worked hard, but if you don't acknowledge your advantages over others, you're delusional. The article about Kylie Jenner being a self made millionaire for example, is delusional. I think now more than ever it’s so much easier for talentless nepo babies to score huge roles in blockbuster movies without ever having had any real experience simply because of their connections. It seems to have gotten a lot worse with how shameless certain celebs are in hiring and promoting their kids when I find that really any actor who took on supporting roles or low-budget projects actually deserved their fame which is why I don’t refer them to as nepo babies.

It is easier to swallow if the neptotist actually works hard but there is a far difference between a child that works for their rolls and does not use there name, and the same who uses the name to get that roll over others.

No one ever mentions nepotism in music or even sports. The NFL is filled with families: Mannings, Matthews, Grieses, Longs.
Entire music groups were children of musicians: Wilson Philips, Nelson, LeVert etc.

Maybe being a nepo baby gives you a leg up but making it work is on the person. So many have gone on to do well and that's why we hear about it. How many have failed? Maybe that's what we should look at if we want to really discuss it. Or maybe who really cares.

I think as long as they’re putting themselves to work and making use of it, that’s good because there’s other rich kid babies who sit around do nothing for themselves over drugs and people could complain about these people not being productive so at least they are, and let’s give them that because they’re getting hate from both sides. It will never be perfect. There’s gonna be people who complain that they don’t do enough there’s gonna be people complain for them, taking advantage, and having an upper hand when it comes to getting jobs like at least they’re not doing nothing, because if I was rich, if we were rich, then we would just probably sit around nothing

I hate to say this with my entire heart, but it's ultimately not their fault they're this much in denial much like it's not our fault we're pissed at or jealous of them. Nepo people *genuinely* think they don't have it easy because all they ever know was, is and will forever be privilege. It's all they know. ALL. We cannot fathom how that reality could be possible much like they cannot fathom how ours could be possible. They simply have no capacity, interest and need to put themselves in our shoes, ever. Why would they? To not be viewed badly by a group of people they can't acknowledge and understand, they'll never be affected by and never be jealous of anyways?
It's simply a totally different reality.

    • @tbbcch1039

I’m sorry, but as someone who grew up with a lot of privilege, that’s a lame excuse.
I can fully appreciate that growing up priviledged and sheltered was not their fault, and that having such sheltered lives can make it hard for them see last their upbringing and realize their privilege. I can acknowledge that it can be challenging and even understand it taking some time.
But first of all, we are all a consequence of an upbringing that wasn’t our fault. But at some point, we each become our own persons, and are responsible for ourselves. And it’s up to each of us to step outside of how we were raised and work on ourselves.
Secondly, there are many people on this list who grew just as sheltered and privileged and they still manage to acknowledge the advantages they got. So there’s really no excuse.
I can understand being a bit oblivious while growing up. But when you have thousands of people bringing it up to you, you have no excuse for not stoping to consider it; much less for flat out denying it, like some of them do.

I know someone who landed a job working with special needs kids who had no experience or qualifications because her aunt's sister in law was the deputy principal of a school, nepotism at its finest.

I also applied for her job after the previous woman in that town retired because at the time I was just covering for maternity leave, I had 3ish years of working in that job and she’d only done a school based traineeship yet she got it

My kids are by definition nepo babies. There’s an elementary school near where we live that a lot of parents want their kids in. Their dad, my husband, just so happens to be a teacher there and got them in. Dad got them into the best school available. It will still be up to them to use it to their advantage. Ie good grades, extracurricular etc.

  • @fletcher373
    @fletcher373 8 місяців тому +1

Alot of people saying being a nepo baby doesn't matter because they still have to succeed on talent. Completely miss the point. The hardest part about getting into show business is getting into show business. Non nepo have to work years, go to countless auditions, build their resume with small roles, while trying to earn enough to pay rent, utilities and food All before they land that one big audition that changes their life forever. Not surprised young people especially nowadays, dont want to pay dues, just want, even expect an easy in. And because they were raised in luxury and were not raised to have the character to earn what you get. They grew up rich and want the fast track so they can become rich immediately because that is the life they are accustomed to. God forbid they struggle and eat ramen noodles for a few years. Their parents are to blame really for not fostering a work ethic. And the parents are probably ok with using their connections to bolster their kids career because then they dont have to be constantly harrassed for money. And actors are narcissistic, they love having their kids become famous for bragging rights makes the parents look like they have exceptional genes, and to re-live their younger glory days through them. Also i guess i can assume that the nepo baby lovers also agree with affirmative action, since it only gives a leg up but people still have to be qualified to keep the job or smart, work hard to get the good grades. If your favorite actor happens to be a nepo baby ofcourse you're not going to see the problem. So many of the nepo babies response to the issue just prove how entitled they are ex Lossi Moss. Lily Rose Depp as a 5'2 run way model yeah seems fair.

You could do an entire list of even more nepo babies beyond the few listed here... Carrie Fisher comes to mind, Tatum O'Neal, most of the Baldwin brothers, Ron Howard got his start because of his brother Clint and now his daughter Bryce is reaping the benefits. Where was Drew Barrymore on this list? Or the rest of the Barrymore clan? Jamie Lee Curtis is hardly the og when if you can trace the Barrymore dynasty back to the silent film era. I guess this is about reactions but you can hardly be unbiased if you have not had the same struggles as other artists.

These young people are no different than anyone who follows in a parent's chosen profession. Being known as so-and-so's kid only goes a little bit. If you have your own talent and skill, it is there. If you don't, you don't.
On the other hand, if you don't at the very least keep it real about who you are, people in general will not appreciate that. Most people will let it go and move on if the nepo is honest about it. But if the nepo doesn't acknowledge the objective truth (and likely public record) about who they are, then things look fishy. That's not to say that there aren't a set of challenges to overcome. There are. But some of those challenges are overcome by just being honest.
