I’m watching this as I haven’t had a retwist in two months. LOL I absolutely love my hair about 2-3 weeks after the retwist like you. I really only enjoy the retwist to see how much my hair has grown 😂😂
Same! That’s really the only exciting part about the retwist lol
Damn me too.. I love the new growth and fullness
Right same here! Getting the retwist just to see how much your hair has grown is exciting
I started my dreads with sponge, been 4 months no retiwst
@@madingkuany4928 did your hair still loc even though you’ve never gotten a retwist?
I haven’t retwisted in two months, now my hair is godly, I be feeling myself frfr, I resonate with the video.
Definitely enjoy my locs growing naturally without retwist because I also HATE the scalp look. I think I'm almost a full year in without a twist and I'm loving it
I think every 3 months is healthy.
So what the update? Did you finally retwist cause I would assume yo shi free formed
Almost a year?! 😳👍 Dec - April but gonna keep pushin.
I ain’t had to sit through no Gunther da great inna lil minute 👀😂 this channel very informative and entertaining! 💪🏾💯
That’s high praise! 🔥🔥😅
🤣
Ain’t no one sitting through buy my crochet tool da great anymore
@@Djr2699 LMFAOO no cap tho 😂 $12 for a crochet needle
@@Djr2699 😭😭BROOOOOO
The longest I’ve gone without a retwisting recently was 4 months...Let me tell you my scalp and hair is the healthiest it’s ever been. #teamsemifreeformlocs
It’s sooo freeing to be able to just let it go right!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Definitely #teamsemifreeformlocs
Yes sister, I'm going on at least 3 months!! I'd like to go to 5.....if my wife allows it 😆 🤣 😂 she's not a fan of the natural look
I went a year before
seven months
@@vino527 #goals
I am swimmer so my locs get wet. I have to wash them everyday so i stopped caring about twisting . They are so healthy. All i do is condition , hydrate and separate. So much better. Makes me less anxious too
I love this video. Unfortunately my hair is so thick and messy when I don't retwist. So I retwist once a month to keep a professional look, since I'm in corporate.
I retwist every 5 weeks. Just started my journey again and my locs are already budding after 6 weeks. Every individual is different….i prefer the neat look as I work in a professional space
appreciated this vid. i feel the same way. and more people definitely need to hear this. i feel a lot of the conversations around retwists (lowkey haircuts too) are rooted in antiblackness. the perception of looking ‘neat’ and ‘clean’ is so damaging to how our hair naturally grows.
i do sympathize to an extent with people who work in “professional” environments though.
✊🏿✊🏿exactly.....retwisting is the antithesis of getting locs in the 1st place
Styling and getting an haircut ruined my locks 😢
14 months having locs has made me a lot more comfortable in my skin and I realize nappy or neat they still treat you the same
I started my journey during this pandemic. Initially my thought process was to maintain by going to the loctitions. Bro absolute myth. Everyting lockaarrrfff. Went 5months without a retwist. My locs were going back to back like Red & Meth. You hit the nail on the head. Just allow your hair to do its thing. It will all work out. Trust in the process its a full on learning curve. My hair right now couldn't be healthier ✊🏾✊🏽
Most of the problems you think are problems is just your mind playing tricks on you. All that worrying is not needed. Truss!
Thanks so much for sharing this bro! This comment will definitely encourage some others!! Everything happens in its own time! ✊🏾
I started mines during the pandemic as well Bro. Going on month 11 in June. Last retwist was February 21’, im only getting retwisted for Memorial Day because I’m going out of town Lol. Other than that I love this frizzy/boardrline freeform stage
@@edstrong4316 I feel you bro. After all that regrowth I had. When I got my retwist I felt like my wig had been pushed back 🤣🤣. Felt like I'd had 10 jabs of botox to the forehead. Nearly at that year one anniversary. Hang in the bro it's all gonna be worth it. I'm a year in August I mighr try hold out for a next retwist until then. Maybe 😅
@@edstrong4316 I did the exact same thing lol. I been letting it go for 4 months because this my second journey. I had locks for 8 years before lol
I don’t even like how fresh retwist look I feel the same about everything
That fresh retwist look is definitely not it!
I personally don't care for that huge unsightly part in the middle of my hairline 😅😅
@@dichonelawson5218 lol
Whats up bro? How have you been? My hair still ain't long enuff to sponge twist yet.
@@kol628 your hair doesn’t have to be that long tho how long is it rn
Almost 4 years in only had my hair twisted twice. Once to start and another year and a half in. My hair looks great and I'm glad I chose to follow my own journey without loctician.
This is hands down the best loc channel on UA-cam. I’m not arguing.
proud to say i never had a loc unravel on me. closing in on 6 months on june 7th, but my birthday is the 19th so im gonna get my first style, I hope
I love how you break down the pros and cons. This is so helpful for a newbie like myself. I definitely feel like I’ve grown a new love for my hair on this journey 😊
I love leaving my hair to do what it does on its own, so I'm with you on that. I go a month, at least, between retwists. I'm on month 7 of my loc journey. Your videos have been so helpful. 🙏🏽
I also love the natural look. I hate seeing scalp so even when I "retwist" I do it in such a way that I maintain the thick roots. I only retwist to keep my locs separated.
Me too. This my second journey and I learned a lot
Great information. You don’t even know it but you’re my loc consultant. Thanks again my brother.
I’m honored! 🙏🏾
Ive been letting my locs do what they do for 3yrs now. i just love watching your videos Keep It Up
Ofc this video popped up when I was in the middle of a retwist😂
Great vid my dog. Im currently a lil over 7 1/2 months and im loving the journey. Im at that point to where i just let my locs be and just get a retwist every 2 months now. 🔒
This video came just in time ‼️ I went 2 1/2 months without a retwist so far and I feel my hair locking better compared to a retwist once a month, I’m going for 4 without
Man I thought I was the only person who liked that look. Everybody loves that scallop look
Nah I love the full look ✊🏾
Bro everything you are saying is so true and helpful!
loc lady here one year in a month! love how informative you are. no love lost to my fellow loc ladies, but they can be a bit repetitive. i am able to hear different aspects here !! thank you !
I’m on my 3rd set of locs and I’ve always done 2 strand twists and went semi free form. I went to a loctician to get c-shaped starter locs, and I haven’t been back since. I twist every once in a while but never tight; I hate the scalp look and prefer the added thickness to the roots and body of my locs too.
Styles look great on some people but I like to let mine hang. Much love on your journey everybody 🙏🏾✨
I just retwisted my hair and for the first time along my journey (2yrs) I can say that I no longer like the neatly kept look! I hated my hair after it was finished and I have always loved my hair through out all of the different stages of growth. I vowed not to retwist again until after the new year.
I am glad I found his channel. He comfirms my positions not to retwist often
I do maintenance all by myself and it IS possible
Im saving a ton of money and am happy as heck wit my dreads getting that good hang time
im so glad i found this video, i'm 6 months in and i thought retwist was necessary but i hated the look so now imma go without it.
This was informative and your delivery is hilarious 😅
I never thought of calling it the 'scalpy look' 😆. I always call it manicured but knew exactly what you were talking about. To each their own. I agree with what you said, though. I prefer that middle point between : manicured and rough/freeform. (I don't think that's the right term but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say). This is a great video, as always. Thanks for the insight/advice.
Your hairs been taking off in the recent months bro 👊🏿
I appreciate you noticing man! I had the rep for not growing at all for awhile! 😂😂
Thank's! "Great advise.😊
Thanks 🙏🏽 This was very helpful!!
Been freeforming about 9 months, loc marrying has been one of my biggest issues at least early on. I had to separate my hair at couple times a week. Now though I can go weeks without really thinking about it. It sounds weird to say, but I love how reliable my hair is now. I can't believe it took me this long to get locs, I don't think I've ever been this happy with my hair.
Im almost 9 months loced and I got a retwist at month 4, never did it again after that. I didn’t like the way my hair looked and I how much I needed to pay 😭. You’re spot on about some people not liking the natural look though, In just 3 days 2 of my friends have suggested a get a retwist 🥴 but I love my hair like this 🥰🥰 .Great info in this vid! Thanks for posting
Thank you & I do feel the same. Less Retwisting is Better
Great video man. I needed to hear this because I tend to have an issue with unraveling, and i just gotta understand that’s apart of the process.
Definitely apart of it family! We all panic in the beginning though, trust me!
I did Bantu knots and it made my locs way compacter and it helped it lock real good
I’m watching this with 3 months of new growth😂
You and me both lol
Same here I’m at 3 1/2 months an loving it. I’m planning to do 5 months # I’m about dat life ✊🏾
@@Rainmaker-xu8ji my hair at the roots is starting to combine that’s the only downside for me tbh
Ima fan of that non scalpy look too I’m with ya bro
Good video 👍🏾. I don’t like that a scalpy look either. I went a whole year without a retwist. That was the best year ever for the health of my Locs! I’m like you I like when my retwist are 3/4 weeks old. I like the fullness of my Locs. 😊
Faxx the only thing I could I could say for sure is that my locs would be longer if I maintained them more but I did want more of a thicker more natural look soo going longer without a retwist was definitely the way to go but great content and info💯
The content I been waiting for. I’m 10 months in and 4 months no retiwsit
I’m completely free form. The only maintenance I do is separation. I was lucky enough to be able to let my hair make the decision for me. I couldn’t imagine paying someone to touch my hair but I don’t knock people who do
Another one! 🔥 I'm almost 6 months in, so this video was helpful! Thanks TP!
I’m happy it helped! Congrats on making it this far!! 🔥🔥
@@TPlocks thank you!!!
I have cornrows but I like this channel so I’m subbed and I always drop a like. 🤷🏾♂️ dude seems like somebody I’d know 🤔 💪🏾
Thanks for the value bro
This channel dope hands down!!!!
For me, the video is all facts. Presently 13mo in.
I like my locs more manicured, so I go like 4-6wks. It’s good for a break and thickening (and not breaking your buds)...but my locs are far from mature, so they need guidance.
Pro-tip: if you wanna give a break but maintaining your locs, consider a soft retwist, a light crotchet or palm roll, or another lighter means to groom with reduced stress.
My Loc marrying is crazy I’m getting my retwist next month if I go beyond that I’ll have free form locs which I don’t want not atm maybe one day tho but I sometimes prefer the fresh retwist it looks good especially with a nice bald fade on the sides
Yea a nice style and cut is definitely a vibe but even then them my head be begging for freedom! 😂
Try plopping them every few weeks
I like both the fresh twist and growth looks, so I often go between 3 months to a year without being touched
Im coming up on my first month after getting my twists!!!! Debating on leaving them be for at least another month
I’m getting a retwist today after month and months super excited
This pops up as I haven’t had a retwist in two months lol needed this cuz I thought it was bad that I haven’t had one in a while
Yesssssrr per usual❤️🔥❤️🔥
Wsup bro! 🔥🔥🔥
Man i am starting my lock journey next month. Cant wait
Exciting times family! 🔥🔥🔥
Perfect timing
✊🏾🔥🔥🔥
I've been loced for 2 years. Started out with comb coils. My hair is super soft and early on would unravel easily. The first 6 months are hard but once I got into the budding phase it got alot better.
However, because my hair is soft, I have to keep it manicured. My hair marries quickly. And because of an injury to my shoulder, I can't always do it myself. Going once a month to a loctician is my way of taking care of me. It's just like how come girls go to the nail salon. Although I'm still paying less for my hair than some chicks with their nails. But whatever.
IMO, doing a retwist once a month isn't doing harm. When my hair was natural I was washing, telling, and drying it everyday. That was more harmful to my hair.
But after I loced, I saved money as now i don't have to buy all of those products. My loctician washes and deep conditions my hair once a month. In between I use Tropical Roots Dry Shampoo and hair oil. On the rare occasion will I wash my hair.
Plus I'm doing my part in supporting black owned business. As long as i have my locs I will always get them manicured.
Hi, I’m similar to you, I have a disability ( 5% vision) and can’t see to mention my own hear, so see my technician every 6 weeks (his recommendation. Hope you are enjoying you Locks☺️
I love that piano rhythm background music, it's so different 😎😁👍🏾👍🏾

I'm only 2 years in TP lol thought it was longer but my dreads are definitely coming along nicely. 3 months and hopefully going lol without a retwist, but wifey putting that pressure for me to get it done lol trying to hold out at least until June.
I'm going on 2 years with my locs and this is the third time seen someone mention not to retwist the Locs all the time I'll try this with some aloe vera with my wash.
Bro keep up with the good content
It’s funny I stumbled upon this video today because I just made up in my mind that I’m gonna stop getting a retwist so frequently. My goal is to wait about 6 or 7 weeks before I go back.
One thing I’ve learned is if your hair strands are fine (opposed to coarse) that you may benefit from somewhat more frequent retwists. I am a lazy natural and so I’ll put off retwisting my hair often but I’m realizing that maintaining the integrity of my parts and along the locs need it. Ofc over doing it isn’t good for anyone but I’m being more consistent with 3 week retwists.
Great Video.
I Agree...
Glad I ain’t alone on the natural look preference. Not that I hate the scalp look, but getting a retwist seems like so much work in my opinion. At the start of my journey I got a retwist about once every 6 weeks to 2 months. It’s almost been a full year and I only really feel like getting a retwist once every 4 months or so. Leaving your locs alone is def my preference
I started my loc journey in Feb
I loc maintenance in May (my birthday)
I plan on going back in for maintenance in Nov
My goal is going to be only doing maintenance twice a year
And a full dye job (no bleach) every two years
Also since I've started my locs I've noticed my hair is growing faster and my hair is thicker which I love
Backpack beats 🔥🔥
And we here!!!
Gang gang! ✊🏾 🔥🔥🔥 Even when I’m late Demarius gon be on time!!
I HAVE to retwist every 5-6 weeks. I went over two months a couple times in a row and my locs thinned. I have fine hair strands and they grow away from the loc so my locs started to break away at the new growth. The parts of my locs that grew in during that period are thinner than the parts that were retwisted more often. I wish I could retwist less but I can't. Know what's best for YOUR hair.
Finally loc’d!!
One month in and already with the root marrying ... like wow...
TP, love ya channel. Keep up the great work. Quick question. I'm mixed and have had my locs crocheted and latched through for my starting process. How often should I keep doing this or should I just start keeping them palm rolled or retwisting
I actually go 2 maybe 3 months without a retwist and I don't know why but it makes me love my hair more in the beginning I did have a major unraveling problem....but I Love your Chanel and I still say Dingleberries thanks to your lil one....Lol 🤦🏾♀️
Hey T P Locks, Weh a Gwarn☺️of course we find your videos interesting & informative. In fact I wish I had seen your videos before embarking on my Locks journey. I’m still only 4 weeks in, and noticed 2 locks, were marrying (joining) I was a little perplexed at first, but said to myself, it’s cool. You see your Lock TEC in 2 weeks, he’ll sort it. After watching your video today I’m even more comfortable about it & not worrying at all. I can’t wait until my locks get to your stage, I’m gonna open a bottle of champagne & celebrate😂. Keep doing the good work that you do, we need & appreciate you🙏🏽just a quick question please, if you don’t mind?….how often as a guide, should I be oiling my scalp?….my technician didn’t say. Thank you & all the best from LONDON England☺️🙏🏽
I been growing since September 2020, I like to wait 6-7 weeks before I retwist. Good video!
Thanks! 🔥✊🏾
Great video!!! Very informative...I’ve left my locitician $90 a pop... I’m in early phase..how often would you suggest to Retwist??
I’m with you bro. I don’t like the fresh twist look. I’m good around the 3rd week.
I’ll take the natural look all day. I only get a retwist around 3, maybe 4 times every year.
Same here! 🔥 I need that freedom!
I have gone a month with a retwist... I plan to do 4 months ... I hope I find this enjoyable
I'm at that stage were my roots are marring more after a wash. On my last re-twist it was bad.
TEAM THICK ROOTS!!!! Tame these roots every 3 months😂🤣Working on 4 months 😏
I have no problem going while without a retwist my only problem I find is because I fade myself I cant tell sometimes what is hair that needs to be cut and what hair is new growth. The fades always look the best after a retwist.
Ooweee that next retwist is gonna be a doozy! 😂😂😂
TP YOU RESEMBLE MY GRANDSON SO MUCH.
Is that right?! Y’all from Alabama?
I’m so tired of getting retwist might not get one this summer.
With my locs . I started with about 4 or 5 inches of fro, then I 2 strand my shit and let it stay in I retwisted myself for about a year every month maybe 3 weeks then I let my shit just rough out for about 6 to 7 months idk it was a LONG time . Then started getting a professional twist after that but I don’t even get twists but once every 3 or more months depending on my hair and my hair is healthy as fuck ! Y’all just gotta take care of your shit pay attention to your hair I know a lot of people just joining the loc phase and shit like that but don’t rush your hair they will drop . Just cherish your hair . And don’t worry in the early stages about retwist so much they will loc just keep them rough don’t oil them too much they gone come out . Locs come from the nappy shit so let yo locs nap they will be fine . Don’t keep getting retwist over and over your new growth will be ugly sumtimes but that’s what make locs beautiful. I like my locs better after my retwist loosen up ! I hope I helped some of y’all I should make a video on mine . 3 years in no loc problems no hair loss no loc loss my hair has been great this entire time
I have microlocs and I love the fact that I can go some time between maintenance with interlocking. I hate the scalpy look too. I love the fullness I get about a week after retightening
Notification gang I been going without retwisting too bro
It just feels right don’t it! 🔥🔥✊🏾
@@TPlocks absolutely bro I try to go two months without definitely less stress on my locs
i tried not retwisting for 8 months but i found tht my hair grows away from my locs which resulted in thin roots. I had to pull those loose baby hairs at the scalp back into the loc. If you want to retwist less just make sure your hairs stay in their sections.
ayy make a locs vs braids vid. personally, i like both equally.
Sponge semi freeform a year but considering one retwist so this really helped 👍🏿
I wish I knew that my scalp/parts wouldn't always be on show with locs! I would have prioritised making the locs around the perimeter of my hair bigger instead of worrying about how the big the parts would look 😩, they're looking a little thin but I have no patience to restart my loc journey 😂
Crazy this video probably dropped when I was literally in the chair getting re-twisted...lol...
EYe only twist my hair one time a year! But bro People must keep it hydrated fasho only organic products. Also your diet plays a big part in hair growth and hair sustaining hood hair!!!! ! This is my second set of locks and EYe had em for over 8 years! Before that EYe had loc three years prior to my second time before I cut it the first time.. personal reason... becoming a dreadmon! I have a king crown in dreadlocks one of a kind
Each to their own lol. Retwist has my hair feeling and looking more healthy then before retwisting. I think it may be due to the different hair types ‘textures. And I love seeing my partings all neat on my scalp lol
Peace bro. Gear vide nonetheless
I havent had a retwist in like a year and a half and some locs are thinning. Had to combine a few
I haven’t gotten ah retwist in like 5/7 months. No line up ina year lol I just let my shit rock
i interlock once a year every September. i retwist as often as possible because of my work.
