I know what you mean on voice to text. I don't even try to explain it anymore! My kids just get a laugh from my texts anyway! Thanks again for all your videos. Watching them with a cup of coffee is like sitting down with an old friend! I love to listen to you explain everything like you do!
What a surprise to see a canning video in January! LOL!! I love me some tomato soup with a grilled cheese sammich. And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to put half and half in tomato soup. Gives it a richness and that lil somethin, somethin.
Awesome! Been looking for a good tomato soup recipe for ever. I feel hubbie's pain! In MA it's a noreaster! Snow, ice, snow, ice, rain. etc. That I'll be out cleaning in the early am hours.
The best tomato soup I have ever made had no spices. I didn't peel the tomatos. i put quartered tomatos in an large pot with a little water and cooked them; then put them through my sieve; it is the kind that sits on a frame and lookes like a round triangle with a wood plunger; then i put the sieved juice into a turkey pan and put it on about 225 in the oven over night; then canned it; the oven reduced it and the flavor was stunning
Now that sounds like something I'd like to try, but not overnight>I would be concerned with leaving the oven on while I'm asleep. Knowing me though, I probably would use some home made chicken stock instead of water and at least some spices... I can't imagine soup that would taste good without ANY spices. No saying it wouldn't taste good, just saying it's hard for me to wrap my head around the idea...I guess I'd have to taste it before I completely dismiss the idea. hmmm
My suggestion to you is not to use broth; i believe it will change the canning time needed; and start with unseasoned; you can season it before you eat it but I don't believe you will want to
Looks amazing Linda. I roasted a bunch of tomatoes with garlic and onion last summer. I'd planned to turn it into marinara but got a crazy idea to make soup with it. So glad I did. I added basil from the garden, my immersion blender and I just froze mine. Maybe next time, I will can. Like you, I serve the soup with cream and yes, grilled cheese! Nice video!
What a find on those tomatoes! You can't find tomatoes for that price anywhere so this is as close to eating for free that you can get without growing it yourself. I just love canning, but haven't tried tomato soup yet. Perhaps I will. Between you and Imstillworkin I was convinced to do baked beans...and they are just to die for good!
Tomato soup is my favorite soup. You made yours just like my Grandmother taught me. It's so. I'd to know that you have her recipe . I love your videos. You've taught me so very much. Keep them coming!
Linda I have to tell you I love your videos I think you are adorable! I am just in the process of doing at least two can loads( quart jars ) of tomato soup I did steal a little bowl this morning I didn’t have any half-and-half but I did have some rice it was delicious!! Thank you for all you do for us!!!keep those canning Videos coming
SHFT you wont have half/half what I use even now is coffee powder creamer. Works great for that creamy taste. We all have powder coffee creamer for SHFT and soup isn't the only thing to use it in. Try it even if you open a can store soup now you will enjoy
Great video! I too love to look for good buys on produce to can. Found Ocean Spray cranberries just before Thanksgiving for $6.00 a case at a local Amish salvage store. That made them a quarter a bag! The berries were perfect! I bought 2 cases. I canned up 44 pints and 3 quarts. I get just as excited and satisfied as you do to see the finished product on my counter after canning. So satisfying to open a jar of your own home canned goodness! Keep sharing your videos!
Thrifty and delicious. Great combination. Have been canning winter squash for soup. Happy New Year to you, your husband and four legged family members.
Wow this sounds so good! I love tomato soup also. I never would have thought to use the spices you used, but I think I will try them as soon as I get a deal on some tomatoes! I canned 21 pints of dry ground beef yesterday. I used both the old style and new EZ tattler lids. I think I have better luck with the old style. Not one of the old style failed but 2 of the new style failed! But I agree with you, I am going to start using more of these then the Ball lids. Thanks so much for all your videos. I love the canning ones the most because you give me new ideas to use!!
What's this about new lids? Is this about the fiasco that Ball had changed the rubber, but then it turned out to be not true about 6 months ago? Or is there something else happening now?
This looks so good. Thanks. Will try this, but probably when garden going. Thanks for listing the seasoning. I have to get busy canning chicken&pork that I have in freezer from when a good sale was going. Learned a lot from you about canning meat. I use my canned chicken very frequently. Vida
I'm going to give this a try...I did not care for the last tomato soup recipe that I tried...too plain, I guess. Anyway...we love soups for lunch and I especially like tomato soups...but not all tomato soups...I don't know...got be just right in thickness and taste...lol...anyway...this looks delish! I will let you know, hen! Love you!
Linda that looks lovely!!... When you said Tomato soup and Sandwich... Yummie.. You are probably too young but when I was a child we had Lassie tv show and they ran commercials from Campbells soup... "Soup and Sandwich goes together with YADaya... Very nice video today... ! :)
Great video. I'd love to see more videos of recipes/meals I can make in my new pressure canner. My husband loves taking home made canned foods to the hunt camp because they don't require refrigeration.
I live in a rural mountain town where we are a grocer's captive audience; we have no such thing as a markdown rack or even a legitimate farm produce stand. Probably the only thing I miss about living in a large city, so I suppose I shouldn't complain but I DO miss fresh farm produce like tomatoes from local farmers who brought their produce to sell at stands at the edge of town-as opposed to the bocce balls sold by chain supermarkets. ENVY!
Linda I am really struggling with an issue. I know you have done cream soup and canned it before. I would really love to make a butternut squash soup and this tomato soup cream in and can them like you did your cream of mushroom. Do you think they would be Okay?
I have a question. I am a new to canning so I wanted to know if instead of blending in the pot, could I use my blender or food processor? OR would it be better to use the food processor prior to heating?
Looks so good. I don't understand the lemon juice water bath pressure cooker info. Can someone explain? Does that mean you can water bath but if you pressure can you need lemon juice? Thanks
I'm wondering the same thing. I don't understand if adding the lemon juice was an option either in the soup or in the jar or if you have to put additional lemon juice in the jar
The lemon juice is for the tomato soup itself - it brings out the flavour of the tomato, nothing to do with whether you are water bathing or pressure canning :)
My Presto Canners recommend 3 quarts of water (or to the fill line, if your canner has one inside- mine are old and do not). I usually err on the side of 3 1/2 quarts, and about 3 Tbsp vinegar to keep the minerals from settling on your jars. Hope this helps!
It does, thank you! lol, I remember when I first started canning I didn't know about the vinegar trick and couldn't figure out what horrible disease my jars had contracted :)
I love fresh canning, but as you said - about $7.00 for ingredients, plus canning utensil and jars (for first timers), then the expense of gas or electric to stew this down..meh..buy a few cans for 0.99 cents. hahaha No, looks awesome hon! xo
SOOOooooooo true! If you've been canning for - ahem -a "while" it's way cheaper. HAHHA I love the recipe hon!!! Just think...come summer you can ROAST N GRILL tomato and peppers on yer green egg for soup! That woud be awesome! Honey, I hope you and yer hubby had a stellar Xmas and FAB New year! All my love!~ XOXOXO

Oh, man... the crinkling! Love your video... Maybe it's because I'm a sound guy... but the bag-fondling and crinkling with earbuds on is just too much. Mics are very sensitive to the worst sounds, unfortunately. The sidewalk shoveling wasn't too bad, but the spoon banging on the glass soup bowl was just... wow. That said, next year's tomato crop is going to make some soup. =0)
I have a whole Lotta tomatoes from my garden this year and I canning tomato soup I just want to thank you for all the ideas I got from you
Nothing goes better with grilled cheese sandwiches, than tomato soup. Looks delicious.

Oh Linda, thank you so much for another great canning video! "Beautiful"! Blessings. :-) The Mrs.

I will be doing this as soon as I find some ripe tomatoes! I love your recipes they are always so tasty :) thanks for sharing
Plus no corn, allergy to corn here so I will be canning this, thanks so much!!
Reminds me of my childhood!
Mmm...I need to find some tomatoes soon! I am not a big fan of canned tomato soup you buy in the store, but I would love this. :)
Linda you sure know how to cook. Dang now I'm hungry..
How did you get all the seeds out? Did you strain it before canning? They look beautiful and so yummy!
Well dang..now you just upped my planting of the tomatoes dealy , learning from the best sistah!

Could I do this without the lemon. allergic to citrus. I would pressure can it so I wonder if I could do it without. :)
Homemade soups like this here in Canada retail for 7-10 dollars a jar. Nice cost savings making it yourself.
Awesome as usual thanks
Anyone else love peanut butter sandwich for dipping in tomato soup?
Linda, is there any good rule of thumb for how much water you should add to the pressure canner?
My Presto Canners recommend 3 quarts of water (or to the fill line, if your canner has one inside- mine are old and do not). I usually err on the side of 3 1/2 quarts, and about 3 Tbsp vinegar to keep the minerals from settling on your jars. Hope this helps!

Could you blend the tomatoes prior to cooking them?
If you have water bathed can you pressure can later
good job
Im new to your channel and cant wait to catch up! Erica
Linda your desc says 6 week puppy update.

LOL... Yes, but that was very healthy!
Ok really frustrated. The instructions/recipe on the video is not clear and I can’t find a written recipe anywhere. Where is it??
