Damn, I got the (non Fuel) M18 back in March. Should've waited for the (Fuel) M12, but I really needed something back then. It's serving me well tho, and I got it at an excellent price.
The greater degree of movement of blades on fuel version causes less heat, and therefore the blades wear down slightly slower. That is why it feels a bit shaper on m12 fuel. It should not be a big difference.😊
Hopefully they will release a updated a m18 multitool. I dont want to get into the m12 line if I can help it. I wonder if the vibration on the m18 is wasted energy and power making the m12 more efficient and faster.
There is a new Fuel M18 out, but it is quite expensive. When I was cutting the door jams for what seems like forever, I did notice quite a difference in heat. The M18 ran substantially hotter than the M12. Cheers Randy

I am with you. This video is relaxing and easy to watch. I also watch the other channel where the guy screams and shouts all the time and that makes it hard to watch and enjoy.
I just recently discovered your channel, so I'm late to the party. But I love the content. When I discover a new channel I like, I like to go back and watch all the content in order, so I can see the production evolution. I try to comment as often as possible because I know the algorithm likes that. I'm a Festool fanatic (pronounced "snob") and I often have little nice to say about plebian tools (JK). But I'll say it anyways, because it helps the channel.
Comparing to the old m12 to the new m12, and old is a piece of crap. It pains me as I spent a hunnert bucks on the old one a year ago and now it’s gonna be a paper weight. Any ideas on what to use the old one for?
Thanks for the review. Never saw your channel before. On the job today my m18 died. Home depot only had the m12 in stock. I passed.. Took the m18 radial arm saw on the roof to do some facia. I normally have a helper ( don't make him work weekends) without the oscillating tool it took longer than normal. Its amazing how we got by in the 90"s without these conveniences. Count me as a sub.
I only have the M12 multi tools. The new one is really impressive. Your points are spot on. Pleasantly surprised with your test results. Now I know I'm not missing anything by passing on the M18. I have a LOT of both M12 and M18 tools. I almost always reach for the M12 first. They are just easier to work with, lighter, and have more than enough power for 90% of what I do. A HUGE bonus of the M12 line is the ability to pack a helluva lot more tools in the box or bag. The M12 line is fantastic.

What makes one better for you, and why? Please include the model numbers so that we know we are talking about the same tools. An attestation of "A much better than B." Without explanation is worthless to me. Are we even talking about the same A's and B's?

Steak Williams thanks mate. I feel like the curved blade and getting used to the faster cutting speed has made my ability to get nice precise cuts virtually the same.
I hate to say because I am heavily invested in Milwaukee, but DeWalt and Porter Cable have the quickest blade change. Excuse me I have to go wash my mouth. lol
I find the intro funny because before this video I watched one that basically told me nothing of the differences in feel, performance, versatility, or anything between the M12 and M18.

Kermit I find I just always use the multi because otherwise my jigsaw marks up the panel unless I tape off a huge section... plus the with the multi tool you’re like 100X more likely to F something up:). Helps me keep sharp!
Kermit I haven’t had any issues with the CT Mini other than breaking off the little tabs that hold the hose out the front. But that was just me being a moron.

Just an FYI. I was using a multi tool for 2 - 3 hours straight with couple of minutes break and then took a 2 hour lunch after which another 4 hours of multi tool. At night i started having a nose bleed and would not stop. I had a heart surgery in 2012. I read this which researched whether the tool/vibration was causing this. What is hand-arm vibration? Hand-arm vibration is vibration transmitted from work processes into workers' hands and arms. It can be caused by operating hand-held power tools, such as road breakers, and hand-guided equipment, such as powered lawnmowers, or by holding materials being processed by machines, such as pedestal grinders. When is it hazardous? Regular and frequent exposure to hand-arm vibration can lead to permanent health effects. This is most likely when contact with a vibrating tool or work process is a regular part of a person’s job. Occasional exposure is unlikely to cause ill health. What health effects can it cause? Hand-arm vibration can cause a range of conditions collectively known as hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), as well as specific diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome. What are the early symptoms? Identifying signs and symptoms at an early stage is important. It will allow you, as the employer, to take action to prevent the health effects from becoming serious for your employee. The symptoms include any combination of: Tingling and numbness in the fingers; Not being able to feel things properly; Loss of strength in the hands; Fingers going white (blanching) and becoming red and painful on recovery (particularly in the cold and wet, and probably only in the tips at first). The blade is likely sharper after use with the M12 because you have to push harder on the M18 to compete with the speed of the M12. I've used a buddy's M18 a bunch, and need to get my own. I don't care for the size of the M18 fuel version. I think I'll be buying the fuel M12 after seeing this video. Thank you.

If you’re a flooring guy remember that the new M18 fuel exists too! At least right now in Canada you can find the regular m18 version for about $100 cad, the M12 fuel bare tool comes in at closer to $175, and the M18 fuel $270. So the standard m18 arguably has better price to performance. I however appreciate the significantly improved ergonomics of the M12. I will say a bit like their M12 fuel Hackzall it really isn’t significantly smaller then its brushed 18V counterpart. Im not complaining though since I would almost always take a tool that’s 15% larger and heavier if it means it’s a more robust tool. Most of the tool manufacturers seem like they are in an arms race to make the smallest, lightest and most powerful tools they can, especially drills. In my experience they simply aren’t as robust, they have too much power, not enough cooling, and mechanical components which aren’t strong enough for heavy duty work. I eventually gave up and bought a Hilti SF 10W-A22, Hilti doesn’t seem too bothered about competing with the other tool manufacturers because if they skimp on the engineering it bites them in the ass since they have a 20 year warranty. The first two years of which is an unlimited wear and tear warranty you could literally run it over with a tank and just say uhh it broke and they will replace it lol.
@@TheFunnyCarpenter yeah you kinda have to wait for a deal or something to come up because you are definitely paying for that warranty and robust engineering. My boss actually paid for the Hilti drill after my 2706-20 shot flames out of its cooling fan hahahahah. Ended up having an issue with the Hilti but it was fault of the user rather then the tool. Hilti happily fixed it without question and much faster then Dewalt or Milwaukee Warranty work I’ve had done in the past. Also as an electrician I want to tell you I appreciate you attempting to cutout a somewhat square box for our plugs. I’ve had to cut a lot of millwork that don’t even fit a plug let alone a plastic extension ring hahaha. One last comment about Hilti is even though I only own two tools they are so professional. They treat me like a ballin business partner I’ve been assigned a rep who phones me a couple times a year asking me how the tools are performing, how work is going. Usually also asking me if I have seen their latest sale flyers and informing me that if I spend only $8000 on concrete inserts or something random I’ll receive a free jackhammer or something hahahahahah. They just assume all the people using their equipment are businesses building hospitals and oil refineries.
Not sure if the 20 year Hilti warranty is worth it for consumers, though. From Canada as well, and last time I brought in a 2+ year old tool for repair (wasn't used too heavily, either), they wanted $175 just for a diagnostic (price could be different depending on the tool though?). Haven't had a tool from the major pro brands give me trouble for years unless it was something taking a lot of abuse daily (angle grinder in a steel shop).

This was the video that I was asking everybody about that I needed because I wanted to replace my M18 to save space in my boxes, yeah I think the larger stroke length is what saving your blade, what I like to do is move the blade left and right on tougher cuts to save my blade from burning up so that seems to be the same thing. What also found out who was that sanding with the M12 leaves a better finish because of its larger stroke length compared to the M18. I used to use the M18 to send the corners of my boats and it will leave swirl marks that were too tight. So the added stroke length really helps finish out that corner a lot better. Now I'm sending cabinets if that's my new job and I'm now noticing that it's much easier to send it's actually pleasurable to use as a sander which normally I will not use a oscillating multi-tool to sand. I usually use semicircle blades instead of the straight flush slate blades as you can hit it from the corner and then dive into the side to make those box cuts a little bit easier with less vibration of the blade. Additionally imperial blades are much much thinner and flex much more than the dremel blades have used in the past. But seriously this is the video that everybody needs to see that it is with getting the M12 unlimited sure if the m18s necessary. For comparison I've used the M18 cordless versus the rigid corded and it's about the same speed or faster, so you're looking at a faster than corded speed already.
I got the m12 a little less than a year ago. Haven’t used it yet. I use my dewalt at work all the time. I haven’t found a blade that wants anything to do with a screw or even a brass closet bolt yet though. I love using it to cut off pvc for toilets and sink drains.

Just got the M18 version a few months ago. I love it, as a multi tool is about the funnest thing to utilize, but the non existent magnet is very irritating, the vibrations are killer (as an hvac installer i already have some screws loose, dont need more), and way too bulky when using the larger batteries, which is usually necessary. Will be making the switch to the M12! Can't wait to see what its like coupled with a 3.0ah compact battery. I like your reviews, hoping to find one on the M12 5 3/8" circular saw!
Fake review both of them exactly the same motor, power. Don’t trust this review. Other reviews I saw they said there is less vibration on the m18. MY JUDGEMENT ON THIS REVIEW CAN BE WRONG DUE TO THE NEW BRUSHLESS MOTOR ON THE M12 MULTI TOOL. I TAKE MY STATEMENT BACK AND I APOLOGISE.

When I use my ridgid oscillating tool for more than 5 minutes it gets super hot and shuts down. I wonder If those milwaukee get hot ?
They get fairly hot after cutting through an entire battery in one go, but no shutdown.

@@TheFunnyCarpenter great! I use the multi when the plant on is a shaker panel, and a jigsaw when it’s 3/4 MDF.
Kermit I find I just always use the multi because otherwise my jigsaw marks up the panel unless I tape off a huge section... plus the with the multi tool you’re like 100X more likely to F something up:). Helps me keep sharp!

Kermit I haven’t had any issues with the CT Mini other than breaking off the little tabs that hold the hose out the front. But that was just me being a moron.

Just an FYI. I was using a multi tool for 2 - 3 hours straight with couple of minutes break and then took a 2 hour lunch after which another 4 hours of multi tool. At night i started having a nose bleed and would not stop. I had a heart surgery in 2012. I read this which researched whether the tool/vibration was causing this.
What is hand-arm vibration?
Hand-arm vibration is vibration transmitted from work processes into workers' hands and arms. It can be caused by operating hand-held power tools, such as road breakers, and hand-guided equipment, such as powered lawnmowers, or by holding materials being processed by machines, such as pedestal grinders.
When is it hazardous?
Regular and frequent exposure to hand-arm vibration can lead to permanent health effects. This is most likely when contact with a vibrating tool or work process is a regular part of a person’s job. Occasional exposure is unlikely to cause ill health.
What health effects can it cause?
Hand-arm vibration can cause a range of conditions collectively known as hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), as well as specific diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
What are the early symptoms?
Identifying signs and symptoms at an early stage is important. It will allow you, as the employer, to take action to prevent the health effects from becoming serious for your employee. The symptoms include any combination of:
Tingling and numbness in the fingers;
Not being able to feel things properly;
Loss of strength in the hands;
Fingers going white (blanching) and becoming red and painful on recovery (particularly in the cold and wet, and probably only in the tips at first).
For some people, symptoms may appear after only a few months of exposure, but for others they may take a few years. They are likely to get worse with continued exposure to vibration and may become permanent.
What effects do these symptoms have?
The effects on people include:
Pain, distress and sleep disturbance;
Inability to do fine work (eg assembling small components) or everyday tasks (eg fastening buttons);
Reduced ability to work in cold or damp conditions (ie most outdoor work) which would trigger painful finger blanching attacks;
Reduced grip strength, which might affect the ability to do work safely.
These effects can severely limit the jobs an affected person is able to do, as well as many family and social activities.

The blade is likely sharper after use with the M12 because you have to push harder on the M18 to compete with the speed of the M12. I've used a buddy's M18 a bunch, and need to get my own. I don't care for the size of the M18 fuel version. I think I'll be buying the fuel M12 after seeing this video. Thank you.

If you’re a flooring guy remember that the new M18 fuel exists too! At least right now in Canada you can find the regular m18 version for about $100 cad, the M12 fuel bare tool comes in at closer to $175, and the M18 fuel $270. So the standard m18 arguably has better price to performance. I however appreciate the significantly improved ergonomics of the M12. I will say a bit like their M12 fuel Hackzall it really isn’t significantly smaller then its brushed 18V counterpart. Im not complaining though since I would almost always take a tool that’s 15% larger and heavier if it means it’s a more robust tool. Most of the tool manufacturers seem like they are in an arms race to make the smallest, lightest and most powerful tools they can, especially drills. In my experience they simply aren’t as robust, they have too much power, not enough cooling, and mechanical components which aren’t strong enough for heavy duty work. I eventually gave up and bought a Hilti SF 10W-A22, Hilti doesn’t seem too bothered about competing with the other tool manufacturers because if they skimp on the engineering it bites them in the ass since they have a 20 year warranty. The first two years of which is an unlimited wear and tear warranty you could literally run it over with a tank and just say uhh it broke and they will replace it lol.

@@TheFunnyCarpenter yeah you kinda have to wait for a deal or something to come up because you are definitely paying for that warranty and robust engineering. My boss actually paid for the Hilti drill after my 2706-20 shot flames out of its cooling fan hahahahah. Ended up having an issue with the Hilti but it was fault of the user rather then the tool. Hilti happily fixed it without question and much faster then Dewalt or Milwaukee Warranty work I’ve had done in the past. Also as an electrician I want to tell you I appreciate you attempting to cutout a somewhat square box for our plugs. I’ve had to cut a lot of millwork that don’t even fit a plug let alone a plastic extension ring hahaha. One last comment about Hilti is even though I only own two tools they are so professional. They treat me like a ballin business partner I’ve been assigned a rep who phones me a couple times a year asking me how the tools are performing, how work is going. Usually also asking me if I have seen their latest sale flyers and informing me that if I spend only $8000 on concrete inserts or something random I’ll receive a free jackhammer or something hahahahahah. They just assume all the people using their equipment are businesses building hospitals and oil refineries.
Not sure if the 20 year Hilti warranty is worth it for consumers, though. From Canada as well, and last time I brought in a 2+ year old tool for repair (wasn't used too heavily, either), they wanted $175 just for a diagnostic (price could be different depending on the tool though?). Haven't had a tool from the major pro brands give me trouble for years unless it was something taking a lot of abuse daily (angle grinder in a steel shop).

This was the video that I was asking everybody about that I needed because I wanted to replace my M18 to save space in my boxes,
yeah I think the larger stroke length is what saving your blade, what I like to do is move the blade left and right on tougher cuts to save my blade from burning up so that seems to be the same thing.
What also found out who was that sanding with the M12 leaves a better finish because of its larger stroke length compared to the M18. I used to use the M18 to send the corners of my boats and it will leave swirl marks that were too tight. So the added stroke length really helps finish out that corner a lot better.
Now I'm sending cabinets if that's my new job and I'm now noticing that it's much easier to send it's actually pleasurable to use as a sander which normally I will not use a oscillating multi-tool to sand.
I usually use semicircle blades instead of the straight flush slate blades as you can hit it from the corner and then dive into the side to make those box cuts a little bit easier with less vibration of the blade.
Additionally imperial blades are much much thinner and flex much more than the dremel blades have used in the past.
But seriously this is the video that everybody needs to see that it is with getting the M12 unlimited sure if the m18s necessary.
For comparison I've used the M18 cordless versus the rigid corded and it's about the same speed or faster, so you're looking at a faster than corded speed already.

I got the m12 a little less than a year ago. Haven’t used it yet. I use my dewalt at work all the time. I haven’t found a blade that wants anything to do with a screw or even a brass closet bolt yet though. I love using it to cut off pvc for toilets and sink drains.

Just got the M18 version a few months ago. I love it, as a multi tool is about the funnest thing to utilize, but the non existent magnet is very irritating, the vibrations are killer (as an hvac installer i already have some screws loose, dont need more), and way too bulky when using the larger batteries, which is usually necessary. Will be making the switch to the M12! Can't wait to see what its like coupled with a 3.0ah compact battery. I like your reviews, hoping to find one on the M12 5 3/8" circular saw!
Fake review both of them exactly the same motor, power. Don’t trust this review. Other reviews I saw they said there is less vibration on the m18.

Kabir miah that’s the old M18 with the brushed motor- the vibration difference between the two is palpable. The new M12 Fuel is miles better.
