Not quite the same for each vehicle. Each state has different fees for title, tag, and registration. For example in Mississippi fees are based on the amount of horsepower the vehicle has. @@CarEdge ok, I will use the site. Hope to be seeing some of your road videos soon. Enjoy your videos and all the knowledge I have gained, after all "knowledge is power"! Thanks
When a dealership has their name on the car you buy, negotiate how much they're going to take off the price for you to advertise for them... if they say nothing, then tell them to remove their sticker (whatever it is) or you won't buy the car..... seriously! why advertise for them for free?
If I would've been a business representative I would tell you that *the car is not yours unless you paid for it and if you don't want to buy it's your choice. When you paid for it, it's your problem with the sticker advertising my business name. If you want you can remove it, I'll not stop you.*
@@Mermasora Removing that logo will cost me money, whether I do it myself or pay someone to take it off, depending on how it's attached. The dealer needs to either remove it or lower the price of the vehicle.
Carmax uses a vinyl decal, I was able to scrape it off with my fingernail without damaging the paint. Another dealer used license plate frames, they went in the trash as soon as I got home. Worst one that I ever saw was on a car that my dad bought back in the 80s, the dealer logo was attached with sheet metal screws. He hated it but left it on as he didn't want to expose the holes and create a pathway for corrosion.
I walked away from a sale because the dealership told me the $1500 reconditioning fee was non-negotiable. I told him I wasn't paying for something they already paid a person to do.
The basic theme of all these frivolous fees seems to be the dealer trying to get the customer to pay for various small parts of the basic cost of doing business as a car dealer. If you are going to act like that, why not ask a customer to pay half your electric bill for the month also?
The best advice on this video is the recommendation to walk away. A customer's feet are his or her best negotiation tool. Never be afraid to walk away. You do not need the dealer, there is always another dealer. I have yet to actually pay a doc fee. I understand that fee is actually part of the price. So I reduce my price offer for the doc fee. If I want to pay $30,000 and the doc fee is $300, I offer $29,700. Last year I purchased a new BMW. I offered my price (which considered the doc fee) which was accepted. The sales person then presented the numbers on his computer. There it was a $299 doc fee. I said I would not pay that fee, nothing to lose and perhaps I would get another $299 off the price. The sales person immediately removed the fee from the deal.
This is EXACTLY what I am looking to learn about. I’m in the market to buy a car and these are the fees I’m fearful about paying. After watching many of your videos, I’m feeling a bit more confident. Thank you!
I’d like to know how the destination charge became a customers responsibility. GM charges $1695 on trucks now. Isn’t it GM who wants to get the vehicle to the dealer to sell so they can stay in business? How did that become the customers fee?
It’s charged to the dealer equally. It has alway been on there. Back in the day it the amount was how close you are to the factory. But today they based on equalized delivery.
@@eshelly4205 I don't know how far "back in the day" is but when I worked at a Ford dealership in the '80's the destination fee was the same no matter how far from the factory you were.
@@1WillyK in 1958 The Automobile Information Disclosure Act requires a window label containing true and correct entries disclosing the amount charged, if any, to such dealer for the transportation of such automobile to the location at which it is delivered to such dealer…..(exciting reading)
I want to say thank you for the info, I bought a vehicle since ours got wrecked, bought a new car than ours they had everything over priced I compared it to others within a 75mile radius. They wanted 23gs for it I was able to get it for 18k with doc fees, tax.
Here in Jacksonville FL all of the dealerships have addons they won't budge from. It's like every dealership here had a conference and said we must do this. I left 5 dealerships and know will be waiting. They're $2,999 for the nitrogen, paint protection, etc.. I even checked dealerships within a 100 mile radius and they're the same. It's bad enough the intrest rate skyrocketed right after I started looking. It's all a sham.
My local Ford dealer lost a car deal with me because of the doc fee and his refusal to remove it. I had already negotiated an excellent purchase price. So I walked out and drove to the next town to see his competitive dealer. The second dealer gave me a price $1,200 higher. I laughed and told him of my original deal, which he claimed was impossible. After some discussion he said, I will call your dealer and if what you are telling me is true, I will match the price. He did, and I drove away with the vehicle a few hours later.
I was just told at Thomas Kia when pricing cars that they tack on a $1200 appearance fee. I knew it was BS but I asked them what it was exactly and they said it was carpet protection, locking lugs etc.. I knew from that moment that I would never step a foot on that lot again
Good info. I knew some of it.... I had a dealer tell me they had a Forever Warranty. When you read the fine print, you have to have certain services performed at certain times at their dealership, like changing differential fluid at 50,000 miles. Or you have to have them change your oil every time.... All these things that get you back in to spend (mostly nonessential services like replacing the air in your tires) more money in their service department....
I REFUSE to pay a doc fee. I always get the best deal prior to sitting down and examining the document. If they try to slick in additional costs, I walk away. Last truck that I bought, the first dealership that I worked with tried playing the "mandatory" additional fee game. They lost out on the sale of a 70K vehicle.
So do they have to run your credit report? Or do they give you all these numbers without having to run it and you can decide to either continue or leave?
I left the dealer today at a ford. 56k truck turned into a 66k truck. Market value adjustment bullshit. Ford Advantage package bullshit which both added up to be 5k in total. They didn’t wanna take them off so I walked. Ridiculous
I was ready to buy a Honda Accord. We agreed on the price but when I go the paperwork to sign, there was a $250 "advertising fee." I asked what the charge was and the salesperson said "It's what it cost for the advertising to get you to come into this dealership." I told him that there was no way I was paying that fee and that in addition, I wanted $500 from them for the dealer nametag they put on the back of the car. After all, if they want to use my car as a billboard, they can pay. I ended up buying a Camry instead. Since then, every time I buy a car, I tell the dealer to either remove their name from the back of the car or pay me $500. They have always removed the decal.
The latest add-on I have seen in my area lately is locking lug nuts for the tires. I don’t think there is a crime ring in town stealing tires. (It’s usually around $80-100.)
No service department I’ve ever been to asked for the lug nut key. They have a universal key. Think criminals don’t have it? Locking lug nuts aren’t stopping anyone
Recently i located just the car i was looking for, "USED! The price was way below what other dealers wanted, and the car has exceptionaly low milage.for its year. they tacked on 150 for service fees plus tax title and licence. I told them i wont pay that service fee, after arguing i said , oky, if i have to pay that, then deduct that amount from the price. When they said nope, i thought about walking out, but knowing other dealers wanted as much as 1000 more with more mileage for the same kind of car,So rather than let the car slip away,to someone else, After a sound checking mechanically,, i thought the deal was good, so i bought it! Cross you fingers!
Omg good luck! They must be charging me that too! Cause I noticed there is like a $100 over charge so I plan on going back today get an itemized bill. I’m on the same boat, best deal I’ve found so far.
What about ADM (additional dealer markup) or ADP (additional dealer profit)? Scam fee. What about Dealer Prep Fee? Total scam - charging customers to remove the plastic wrappers from floor mats and leather seats, and to peel the dealer sticker off the window?
I just got done with a Dealership trying to get out of the Doc Fee that was $211 after Buying a Car. Stellantis calls them Destination Fees and my plan was too play Dumb and confuse the Doc Fee with the Destination Fee and be blown away by the sudden charge. Well my Monthly Payment was listed at 73 Cents more then what the Salesman and I discussed, so I was able to get them to lower the Doc Fee to make that number that was already agreed upon with the Salesman.
Today, a Honda dealer wanted to charge me an acquisition fee, on a sale of used vehicle, not a lease, oh and a certification fee on a car already advertised as certified and already verified by two other employees as the price for a certified vehicle. I told him we were done and walked away.
I live in Alaska and I’ll never buy a new vehicle here. I saved $8,000 on a pickup they listed for $43,000 here and got the same vehicle for $35,000 in the lower 48. Even if I were to pay to ship it instead of driving it that cost for me would be about $2,000. The dealers up here hate when they see Dave Smith license plate trim but they bring it on themselves.
Wife and I have bought enough vehicles that now when we agree on a price at the dealer, we write the check for agreed amount and tell the finance papers guy to make it work. Saves a lot of time and crap talking.
The dealer tried to charge $550 for a blinking brake light kit they install on all their new vehicles but it wasn't included in the advertised price. I told them either uninstall it or take it off the price. They took it off the price.
I've never understood dealers trying to screw over people just to make a slightly better margin on individual sale. Treat people right and then you will have a repeat customer who will also give you word of mouth. When I bought my last car (a used VW from a Lexus dealer) I asked for the used car manager on the phone and offered an out the door price. He countered with "can you do $100 more?" I said yeah, I can live w/ that. He got something from me, and I got the car for what I was willing to pay. That's a how you make a deal. Both parties win. But what impressed me, is they did not try to tack on more fees or try to upsell me additional stuff. And if I shop again, I will return, or tell anyone looking for a car to give them a try.
What happens is the dealer knows you we are holding on to vehicles for much longer times now. We won't be in for a new vehicle for teh next 5 to 10 years. I'm being very general but this is why they try to make as much as they can on each deal.
Thank you for the educational info - the problem is, every stealership carry the same practice - doc fee, reconditioning fee, window etching fees, etc, you name it, and if you refuse to pay them, they wouldn't care, since there will always be another potential customer willing to pay them and in the end, we (those who refuse to pay those bogus fees) are the ones without the car. Yes, we can always walk away from the dealership, but when all the dealers charge the same bogus fees and they don't care if you refuse to pay them (because someone else always do), there is nothing we (the customers) can do. That's the unfortunate reality I'm looking at in today's market/world
Agree! Would like to also add the "human nature" component that isn't often discussed: Most people want to avoid confrontation and want to please the other person...I know it sounds wimpy with all our tough talk about "walking away" but most will bend WAY over on their initial intentions going in and....bingo! We walk out with a car, a bigger-than-expected monthly payment and a spinning head.
Agreed! If you want the car, take the best deal you can get. After doing your homework and using these tactics, you can only negotiate some of it but, it is impossible to get a "fair" price in this market. You can walk away but, you have to be willing to not get the car in the end. Someone is always in line ready to pay more than what you were willing to pay. It is very unfortunate!!
Thank You Always Good Advice, My Second Used Car Purchase Was A Complete Rip Off With Every Dealer Fee Added In. Never Go To A Dealership If Very Sick, Leave If They Try To Make You Stay When You Say You Need To Go. I Want A Toyota But Refuse Because Of This Manager To Buy One Here Ever From Anybody Within Two Hundred Miles Of This Dealership.

I did not think I would be in the boat of car shopping after my car got totaled. Local dealership was a True Car dealership. True Car sent me the link. In the link, the dealer added a $500 "theft recovery" device and almost $700 in dealer fees. Salesman acted like that was common practice on all of their cars. I told them I was walking and he quickly came back and said they would drop all of those fees. I then decided I would really going to play hardball in negotiation.
I went to buy a car and insisted that whatever we agreed on would be the actual amount we would pay. They agreed and then tried to add $50 at the end. They tried to defend it but when we got ready to walk out they dropped it. I have shopped several times and been shocked at the price they asked. After thinking about it and comparing it to other deals I finally get comfortable with the price they offer. Instead of letting me drive away happily in my new purchase they try to slap on a late fee. That is stupid marketing, once a customer is happy about their purchase, let them stay that way.
Costal Kia in Wilmington just started adding another sticker for car washes when you service your car ,rotation tires ,taking you home for service ,picking you up all lifetime for a fee of 2995 and if you buy a telluride it’s 5999 charge
Best video! thank you so much! As a woman, I hate dealerships! When they see me walk in they are already condescending, like I was born last night. Thank for these tools!
So after paying some of those fees. Can you go back to the dealer and reclaim your money. Let’s say a dent protection fee. Can you call up the dealer and cancel this protection contract
I'm trying to find a second car, but reconditioning fee seems to be the norm now in pretty much a lot of the lots. Sadly, they are not budging either in removing it. I've walked away from 4 dealerships already and I'm losing hope that I'd find a dealer who doesn't charge a reconditioning fee much less remove it when asked.
These advices are good and all but if getting this car is very important to you and a necessity for your work, I think getting scammed for a few hundred dollars is okay as long as you're happy with the car you're getting than missing out on the opportunity and getting your second, third or even your 4th option.
Just came across this. I've been at the same auto group in Florida in internet sales for almost 10 years now. I agree with everything you said. Good stuff 👏
This is very helpful. I'm bothered that after I negotiate (ineffectively) with a car dealer, they add document fees, destination fees, etc., and the price ends up much higher than I thought I had agreed to.
Yup, looking for a Honda Clarity right now here in Texas. Somehow a 25,000 list price becomes a 30,000 out-the-door price. When I asked how, they said 25,000 + 2,900 reconditioning + 2,100 taxes. I asked why reconditioning wasn't included in the list price - no response. Guess I'll continue waiting for a Clarity.
On Mar 11, 2022, I visited a Subaru dealership, the dealer has an Etch fee $199; and appearance package fee $1,799. I heard the Etch fee is a total waste and the appearance package consist of pinstripes and 2 oil changes. That sounds like a scam. I didn't pay or sign for anything.
D e b r a from California love your videos very helpful and helping me out with the information that I needed to work with the car dealer with I love your videos
Yeah, I had one where they add $900.00 for anti-theft tracking. I should have asked if the anti-theft prevented them from robbing my wallet ;) They put it on all their cars. What B.S. Also another dealer did the paint protect baloney.
just found your channel, thanks it's good advice. out looking for a new suv and finding some of the nonsense that is out there. with you help I think I might do better, already seen some of the markups and walked away, dealer still called as I was driving home to change deal, I am learning do your homework and stand your ground. now I am learning a few more from your channel. just want to say thank you everyone has a different story, mine is I want, not I need.
My daughter is currently looking at a new Honda and they’ve added a $2900 protection plan , I told her to order the same vehicle but tell them you don’t want that package added to your car. The salesperson said they won’t they put it on all new vehicles

Mr. Shefska - Want to let you and your son know that I have been watching your videos and learning! After spending some time viewing, I feel I am much more prepared to handle dealers. I understand more about what they are doing and a bit about how the dealership operates. The end result is I am interacting with them with knowledge. Knowledge is power as well all know. It also makes you feel more confident in dealing with these folks. So anyone reading this - pay attention to the Shefska boys - they know what they're talking about! Here is my example: I have a specific new vehicle in mind including color etc. I am going to buy one of these, either a good used one or a new one. After seeing one on Carguru's I sent the dealer an email. The internet manager emails me back saying, and I quote, "MSRP is $45,503. Our discount is $7,000. Your price is $38,503." (2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid) I was ready to jump on this!! But first to confirm what I read, I called him. During our phone call, he said, 1) That deal is not for those wanting to finance, it is for those wanting a $2,000 cash discount. (Which with Toyota right now you either finance or get the 2k off the price. Zero percent financing is my goal.) 2) He had to ask me four times what county I live in (Ventura) to figure out the sales tax. 3) He told me every vehicle at their dealership gets some type of coating/paint protection which is worth well over $2,000. I told him I don't need or want their "paint protection". He restated that they all have it but he would ONLY charge me $1,995. So, his out the door price was over $44,000. Based on the knowledge I have gained watching (and re-watching) your videos, I instantly knew he was trying to pull a fast one. As soon as I told him my out the door price, he rushed me off the phone. Poor salesmanship. I'll give my business to someone not trying to screw me out of money. Thank you gentlemen! Paul
I have yet to understand why these fees matter to the customer. I honestly don't care if a dealer puts down a $10000 dealer prep fee on his paperwork as long as I get the car for what my OTD negotiated price. I have had dealers come back and say "I need your help on this whatever..." part of the sales document. I just point to the bottom number and stress that it is their problem as long as I get the car for that number. However you truly do need to do your homework to know exactly what the car is worth and how much money they should make off of it. I run the numbers with them, not the other way around, and tell them exactly how much profit I am willing to give them. It is very rare that I have had to walk away once they realize they are getting a fair deal.
I was looking at a 4Runner at my local dealership and the charge you a “required” “Toyota benefit package” and it’s literally just a protection package and 80% of the stuff came with the vehicle. Like when I asked them what’s it included one of the items included on there package was floor mats. Told them I was paying for it and they said then they weren’t gonna sale the care because it’s mandatory
Everyone says to leave dealerships when not liking aspects of the negotiation, but other dealers are likely to have the same or worse pricing tactics, and for a car with different specs than the one originally wanted. If you have to walk, sure, but I'd hate to have to re-enter negotiations at the original place after finding out it was the best deal. Not to mention spending so much extra time searching elsewhere.
I'm looking at a pre-owned 20k mile 2017 911 they want $249 for electronic filing and $999 pre delivery service (says This charge represents costs and profits to the dealer for items such as inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles, and preparing documents related to the sale.). They can F right off with those fees at least they admit "profits".
Since Fl has so many dealers that all charge near the same the people have basically just come to accept it ... if one wanted to really stand out , and subsequently draw in more business, they’d have a 1$ doc fee and they’d advertise the hell out of it.
I just wanted to say I have started watching your videos lately and have learned alot. My brother worked as a mechanic for chevy for over 20 yrs and his buddy a salesman. But, my brother got a job teaching mechanics now he was never a salesman. Thanks for all the excellent info.
All dealers I am talking to are not removing accessories worth from the range $1500 to $3000. What we should do in such caseS? Vehicle: Honda Civic Sedan EX
A really awful attempt at an upsell by a Ford dealership: I bought an F250 Super Duty truck with a 6.0 diesel engine. The dealer tried to sell me on the idea that I would need a block heater to make winter start ups easier. $300+ for the install. I declined. I was under the truck draining the oil about a year later and noticed a cord with a 3 pronged plug on it wire tied to the inside of the bumper. I traced the wire back to an engine block heater. I cut the tie and had a factory installed block heater ready to use. I did some research and discovered international installed block heaters on all their 6.0 engines and Ford wired them when building the truck. In 2005 Ford stopped wiring them but the block heaters are still installed on the engine and you can get the cable on Ebay for under $20...or $130 at the dealer.
I went to a local dealership by me (Kirby of Ventura) and they added a "salt protection package" to all their cars because we're close to the ocean. I asked if that was something I could remove and they said no so I just laughed and walked out.
I went to a Honda dealer that added a $5K market adjustment fee and and some sort of package for $2995 A car they advertised for $24,000 became a $34,0000 vehicle, I can only imagine how much more they would add once I walked in the finance office! I left in a hurry, as a matter of fact they upset me so much I am buying a Toyota!
What about the mark-up over MSRP add-on dealers use due to ‘low inventory’ and chip shortage, etc. like $5K (or more) over MSRP on Tellurides for example.
Loving this channel. Let's say they added something extra that you don't want, like pin striping. Is it reasonable to ask them to remove it or should you instead just work on negotiating that price down
On this specifically.... if you dont want it, tell them you didn't ask for it, it wasn't part of the price. To take it off the overall price. They will. If you like it, negotiate it way down. Or, you can probably get it done elsewhere for a fraction of what they want to charge. Be firm, just say I want that taken off.
I've bought 2 new cars, both were dealer trades but the cars were traded for stock (i.e. not at my request). The cars were driven as the mileage on them when I took delivery corresponded almost exactly to the distance to the other cities.
maybe I am a bad negotiator, but I research the exact car I want to buy off the lot, for the exact OTD price I want to pay, and have a leeway of a plus , minus 250 dollars, I go in 500 less than my OTD price. been doing that for 25 years, seems to work as I get decent discounts. I never go for the "hot" car though. I like plenty of cars on the lot, certain month, and they need to move them. my formula.
What do you do when you have warranty on your car, your car messes up, and you try to go redeem the warranty benefits from the car you purchased and the dealership doesn't want to do it for free without charging you extra?
You call a local auto mechanic and ask him if the warranty covers work done outside the dealership 99% of the time the dealership was using a third party warranty and you don’t have to worry about using it with just them.
Go to a different dealership in the next town over. lol Some dealerships just have crap service. Depends where you live and the business practices they utilize.
Came across a new 2023 Corvette today. The car had a “dealer registration transfer fee”of $1295? This fee is in addition to the doc and tags fees? I’ll be moving on to a different dealer. The market is starting to get soft, I have several dealers calling me now asking me if I’m still interested in a new Corvette. My answer is Yes! But. Not a penny of MSRP! I can wait!
when your only option is dealing with a dealership, "just because" fees are how it works. until you can order directly from the manufacturer, you are venerable to dealers.
There is a sponsored website on FB from "Did U Know" with 1000's of SUV's in a picture. The caption below says"Unsold 2020 SUV's going for pennies on the dollar: Great for Seniors." Can you do a video on what their gimmick is??
Additional transportation fee Pay it, on condition that the dealership pay your transportation fee (higher than theirs, of course) to get to the dealership
I went to the dealer yesterday. I went in knowing the price was $13,660. I thought maybe I can get away with 1500 after fees and taxes. It came out to 21,000. They added 2,700 of “accessories” that I did not want and they refused to remove.
This is what I am going through.. my accessory fee is $2500 although I did get a discount of the original price. I did not ask for this. Hoping they will knock this down if not I will have to walk away
If they refuse to remove, you walk out the door. Back in 2019, I bought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, advertised on their website at $6995. I drove the car, liked it, and asked for an out-the-door price. After a bit they came back with over $10.5K, I looked at the crap they had listed and started laughing. I told them I had an insurance payout for my totaled previous car of $8200, and I emphasized they HAD to meet that price, and NO MORE, or they could sell the car to somebody else. They said there was NO way they could meet that price, so I walked out. No sooner than I got to my rental car, the salesmanager came out and said "Will you buy the car if we meet that price?" I said I sure would. You GOTTA be willing to walk...
Just tried to get a crosstrek in my area marked for $13,995. Car was perfect, no accidents, 80,000 miles. But when I started to talk negotiations with them, the wanted to charge me a $200 vin etching fee (NEVER PAY THIS!!! DO IT YOURSELF FOR $10) then they wanted to charge $700 for a doc fee. They said it was for storing my documents for me up-to 7 years. I told them I have a filing cabinet at home, I’ll store MY documents MYSELF. I walked about without another word said to them. I’m currently waiting for a call back from them so I’m crossing my fingers hoping they’ll want my business.
"reconditioning fee" for used cars = an exaggeration for washing, vacuuming, and putting a dealer sticker on the window. Been on many lots and asked dealers about all the scratches, dings, dents, broken trim on used cars on their lots, and they always say, "that's just normal wear and tear on a used car." Yet when they inspect your vehicle for trade-in appraisal, they tell you they need to deduct a lot of value for scratches, dings, dents, and broken trim because they have to pay to have it all reconditioned and repaired.
I would love to see a video with Dad about the actual kick backs on the back end of financing. I manage and Run boat deslerships, sales and finance, I know what we can get on the back end from a bank if we bump 2points. What is it like in a car? Is it similar?
Destination is only listed separately because of federal law on cars most dealers exclude this from online prices depending on state law but it is not a made up fee it is part of msrp
Is destination charges the same as freight charges?? Destination charges on the window sign is listed seperate underneath the MSRP but then on my invoice a different fee for freight charges was added 🤔
Dealer add on. I was buying a new camero l in the F@I office he went through the contract and there it was, chip guard and scotch protection. I said hold on. I went and looked, no chip guard was on the car anywhere, I checked hood, door handles fenders door edges etc, It was raining and They probably didn’t think I would have noticed (it was raining), so they would charge me, then add it when they prepped the car. I came back in and told him no deal he just lied to me. End result they ended up striking the fees for both nonexistent products off the contract.
Hmmmmm, i think most the used car lots here in Florida are just fronts, they won’t drop any of those charges and don’t care if you walk or not, it’s like they don’t want to move vehicles.
Never let a dollar amount come out of your mouth. As soon as you give a monthly payment you can handle, they got you. Know how many dealerships in your area. If necessary let the salesperson know that you know that and ask if they have that many people waiting to buy a vehicle from them as you're talking with them. Don't let them bundle the sale.Make them give you a price on the vehicle only. Negotiate all dealer fees and dealer add ons separately. Options are the most profit intense items. If you can , only finance the vehicle and pay for always fees separately at purchase. Otherwise you finance taxes, DMV fees etc for the love of the loan. Most importantly, they're there to sell you a finance package and not a vehicle. Happy hunting.
Agreed with you, if you tell them you pay $750 a month for a Kia Rio they will reply with how did you get those payments so low? Like preparing you to take a $800 payment on your next purchase. It seems they all take the same sales training class!
Like your video Question....on a previous video you guys talked about buying at the end of the month when a dealer is close to a quota which will land them incentives from the manufacturer. How does it work when you want to order a vehicle from the factory? Do these orders still help the dealership achieve their quota incentive from the manufacturer based on order date?
Here's two more fees I've seen recently: "TOYOTA Destination Fee" $1189.00 at JERRYS TOYOTA, and "KOONS appearance fee" $299 Westminster Toyota. Jerry's got in trouble as I sent a copy of the buyer's order to Toyota USA with Jerry's having imprinted Toyota in their ADM section. Toyota assured me they on charge Freight/destination/handing once in MSRP. #Zach, I still want a T-Shirt!
Is destination charges the same as freight charges?? Destination charges on the window sign is listed seperate underneath the MSRP but then on my invoice a different fee for freight charges was added 🤔
@@superprettyhazel YES "freight charges below first MSRP say, "DELIVERY, PROCESSING AND HANDLING FEE $995.00", but they tried to double freight me on "FEES" side with duplicate fees and some made up! They discounted car $4K to add back in $3K in bogus fees I had to fight to have taken off!
One fee we get here in Canada is what they call Air Tax . Not all dealers charge this fee. Our Dodge dealer never brought it up but our Mazda dealer tried.
The problem is that nobody is giving deals on their cars right now because inventory is so low. I’ve been to numerous dealerships and the lots are bare. The plus is that they’re giving decent trade in values, but they aren’t budging on the MSRP.
Look for an older model, say 2 or 3 years old. I just bought a 2019 expedition (50 miles), they had 10,000 dealer discount. Plus I had a 2,000 Ford discount.
I went to Van Hyundia in Carrollton, Tx dealership to to look at a used car saw one. They said if you can not get financing you can purchase the car for 7300.00. Well went to finance done the deal found out they had doc fee locjack preps fees scarch guard fee ended up being in stead of around 9k it was 14,500.00 that was finance on a 2012 Ford Fusion. That Monday I called said no deal not doing it. They said they keeping my 4K I put down.
Alabama has property tax on motor vehicles, however its not charged by the dealer at time of purchase. It's charged when you renew your tag annually based on the value of the car and what municipality & county you live in.
Sounds like SC. If you're getting a new tag with the car, you get the property tax bill within 120 days after purchase. At least sales tax (6%) is capped at $500 (for now).
@@ernestbeggle1981 AL is also weird in that the month you renew is based on your last name. So if you buy a car in March and you don’t renew until Oct, when you get your plate in March you’ll pay like a $20 fee for the plate and and sticker and in Oct you get hit for property taxes from Mar-Oct plus the upcoming year.
So the title, tag and registration are the same for all vehicles sold in your state? And that is available on the DMV website? Thanks.
Not quite the same for each vehicle. Each state has different fees for title, tag, and registration. For example in Mississippi fees are based on the amount of horsepower the vehicle has.
@@Mermasora
Removing that logo will cost me money, whether I do it myself or pay someone to take it off, depending on how it's attached. The dealer needs to either remove it or lower the price of the vehicle.
Did that before...
@@Mermasora if you said that to me then you just killed the deal👍
Or tell the dealer to pay for the gasoline used to get to and from the dealer plus wear and tear A transportation fee of $75 seems fair.
Don't give them any ideas.
Watched this video and went to buy a car today. Thanks to you I didn't fall fir any of their scams. Thank you so much! Got a 2022 Kia Telluride
Great , I’m going to do this also !!!
What fees did you pay? And how long did you finance? Did you trade-in a vehicle?

Anytime they mention nitrogen for your tires remind them regular air is 79 percent nitrogen.
Boom!
"Few hours later"
I just offer em $75 and tell them it doesn't cost that much to hit some buttons on a computer
So a dealer told a competitor info to screw themselves out of a deal? 😐. I call BS. Lol
@@PaulWeezy50 They knew that they had already lost my deal.
I’m just going to pull these videos up when I go get my car from the dealership 🙌🏽👌🏽
There you go ,good idea😆😆😆
Lol right?!!!
And sold that 70K vehicle to someone else. Granted it wasn't you, but the point is the dealer always wins
So do they have to run your credit report? Or do they give you all these numbers without having to run it and you can decide to either continue or leave?
Truly appreciate everything you guys do to keep things fair. The maximu 303 Doc Fee in Illinois is now $303.60 just for accuracy.
My Mom's last car had them. They were a pain in the ass.
That would be like the grocery store making you pay for FDA inspection at the checkout for meat you just bought
Wow
Avoid dealers
@@ejswbradshaw1 What other options are there? Auto Trader?
I've seen doc fees in AZ as high as $1100. Call it what it is: extra dealer profit.

Here is my example:
I have a specific new vehicle in mind including color etc.
Paul
if MSRP IS 38k and out the door is around 44k that sounds about right. Maybe on the high side but seems like you might've missed an opportunity
Good for you!
The point is to pay as little as you can, every dollar must be negotiated and discounted to or close to the OTD you want that works for both parties.
Missouri is another one of the few states to levy an automobile ownership tax every year but they call it the personal property tax.
Kentucky has PPP on vehicles, based on book value.
Hawaii has a yearly fee that’s based on vehicle weight so it never decreases.
Earl Stewart and mullimax
I consider the doc fee as illegitimate as well. In Alberta, Canada, they are illegal!
All of that is already factored in to the price..the dealer just wants to try and slime another few thousand from an unknowing buyer. Just say NO.
I just wanted to say I have started watching your videos lately and have learned alot. My brother worked as a mechanic for chevy for over 20 yrs and his buddy a salesman. But, my brother got a job teaching mechanics now he was never a salesman.

I just started watching you about a year ago but this is the first time that I realized that we're in the same area.
I'm in Silver Spring, MD
I went to a local dealership by me (Kirby of Ventura) and they added a "salt protection package" to all their cars because we're close to the ocean. I asked if that was something I could remove and they said no so I just laughed and walked out.
Good for you!
Thanks brotha they where trynna get me with the LO JACK fee 900$ fee I don’t really feel I’m gonna ever need that good vid!
I like plenty of cars on the lot, certain month, and they need to move them. my formula.
Don't offer to pay the "cost" of the dealer addons. Refuse to pay anything for this at all. The cost that they show you is not the dealers cost...
I can wait!
Reference to Scotty is noted. I love the three of you.
when your only option is dealing with a dealership, "just because" fees are how it works. until you can order directly from the manufacturer, you are venerable to dealers.
There is a sponsored website on FB from "Did U Know" with 1000's of SUV's in a picture. The caption below says"Unsold 2020 SUV's going for pennies on the dollar: Great for Seniors."
Can you do a video on what their gimmick is??
Those are bullcrap ads. Ignore them.
Additional transportation fee
Pay it, on condition that the dealership pay your transportation fee (higher than theirs, of course) to get to the dealership
I went to the dealer yesterday. I went in knowing the price was $13,660. I thought maybe I can get away with 1500 after fees and taxes. It came out to 21,000. They added 2,700 of “accessories” that I did not want and they refused to remove.
Well I work a dealership those things are added on at the port they come from .
Dont walk run!
Sounds like an easy one to walk away from
This is what I am going through.. my accessory fee is $2500 although I did get a discount of the original price.
Texas the Dealer added some fee caled TX VIT, Inspection Fee, and Deputy Servicing Fee. Appreciate your input.
Did they ever call you?
“Destination charge” is the same as Walmart trying to charge you for the delivering the bananas
They do charge you for delivery of the bananas, it's worked into the cost of the product and not seen as an added fee.
Ugh in Canada dealerships charge $1,750 delivery/freight fee... What a ripoff!
NC charges 3% “road use tax” on the trade difference. Personal property tax is determined by the location that you reside.
Nitrogen makes up 73 percent of our air anyway so it would be 27 percent add to tires anyhow what a crock for anyone but an F1 car
Like your video
Question....on a previous video you guys talked about buying at the end of the month when a dealer is close to a quota which will land them incentives from the manufacturer. How does it work when you want to order a vehicle from the factory? Do these orders still help the dealership achieve their quota incentive from the manufacturer based on order date?
A sale is a sale. They'd rather get stuff off their lot that they already paid a bit for, but a sale is a sale.
Honda dealerships in Tennessee are charging $2900 per car for their "protection package." What a scam!
What about when the dealers call it a "Pre-delivery Service Fee"? I had one dealer quote a $999 fee like this.
“ Post-hypnotic reconditioning fee"
Scam fee.
That sounds crazy. I wonder whether it helps them even things out at the DMV.
@@ernestbeggle1981 yes that’s why they do it.
Pa it is 118-141 and negotiable. It is also not a taxed item. This coming from the PennDOT.
