Good to know. I actually talked on the phone tonight with a salesman who mentioned nitrogen in the tires and a bunch more stuff that I never heard of.
I already felt he was taking advantage of me. I asked him for the "out the door price" of a car they had online with no additional add ons, he again started saying about all these these add ons. I reiterated and said, "no, the car exactly as priced with the taxes and destination fee".
He still went on about add ons. He wanted me to come in, and they didn't even have the car to test drive. I said. " why do I need to come in if the cars won't be here for 30 days?"
He said, "to see what options you want"
I said again, "I don't want anything more than what's listed on the car that's on your website that's on its way to your dealer in 30 days"
He again said he couldn't get me a price.
Anyway, I'm not doing business with them over it.
I'll drive 100 miles to get an honest dealer

Spot on. Went to the dealership today & all those fees were lumped into one price. Realize that 30k these days cannot buy a car. Dealerships want you to believe that 30k is chump change. They told me all those addons were already done & there was nothing we could do about it. Needless to say we walked.

@@scottr2706 Dude, car shopping is one area where women are targeted for exploitation more-so than men. My advice would be to do the research AND take a guy with you, especially a tall guy with a deep voice. Even if you are the one doing the talking, just his presence will get you a better buying experience. This phenomenon is totally unfair, but it exists.

My favorite is a fee charged (tried to charge) by a dealer described as a germ bath. The cost was listed at $1,995 and described as a super duper anti-germ spray of the interior of the vehicle. I asked my germs about this and they advised me to pass as they do not want a bath.

Could you talk about paint protection - as far as I can tell this just means the dealer washes and polishes the car. It's certainly something that I've seen offered by dealers in Australia and the UK as an add-on after the deal has been done.
To me it begs the question why isn't the paint already good enough? Why does it need this add-on? It feels totally like a scam and it's been around for decades.

Email every dealer in your area (ideally email the sales manager) and state your intention to place an order for Corvette at MSRP. Once you have a proper quote from a dealer, you can use that as a negotiating tool with other dealers until you find one that is willing to sell at MSRP. There should be very few fees in the quote other than delivery/freight, sales tax, and licensing/title costs. There is no need to visit a dealer to do this process. Avoid any dealer that isn't transparent and professional with you.

Most car buying experts advise negotiating the total car price before discussing payment plan options with the dealership… the problem I see with that is that the dealer can just add some of these stupid hidden fees to the deal later on to try and recoup some of the money you’ve already negotiated off the price. Then you have to negotiate again to have the fees removed, or worst case scenario, you may end up paying more because you didn’t see the fees or didn’t know they weren’t mandatory. That’s why I think that if you know you are financing, and know the interest rate they offer, is best to negotiate the monthly or biweekly payment on a fixed term and fixed down payment, this way you know all is already included. What do you think?

A car depreciates a lot of value as soon as you drive it home. It's stupid not to get the gap insurance. You owe the price of the new car, but could total it a short later and the insurance company will only pay the depreciated value, you're stuck still paying the rest off, but have no car. I've seen this happen to people.

How do you trade in a car when it is upside down. owing, more than what the suv is worth. The blue book says 31.000 And the financial company says 35.000. I got screwed by signing for someone. Now, I need to trade it in and put money down to get a lower payment. If I let it go back I will owe them money and I will have to borrow it. Is it better to trade it in and get a lower payment on another car? I have to move and get a house with a bedroom and bath downstairs for my son. He has two arteries in his head leading to his brain. And I have no help for medical help, paying the doctors Or buying the medication. I am a 100% Disable Veteran. I am having trouble And running out of time. Please tell me what I can do. I am really afraid.

Great video. In your experience would the dealer refuse to sell the car to you if you asked for fees to be removed? I’m in the process of buying a new vehicle and I don’t want the dealer to say “I won’t sell you the car unless you pay these fees”

They might initially refuse but I would walk away anyway. They don't want to lose a sale so there is a high likelihood they will contact you later and do the deal.

Can we still get all of those fees taken off if we are going to be paying cash for the car?

    • @scottr2706

No. In fact you will likely pay a higher price if the dealer know you are paying cash. The reason is dealers know they stand a better chance to earn profit in the F&I office when the customer financed through them.

Gap Insurance section is not helpful. The way to not need gap insurance is by putting more money down. Changing the finance years don't make any difference if the car gets totaled in a year. If you can't put money down you need gap.

the one thing I disagree w/ him on is the wheel locks. I had the tires on my accord sport stolen before. cars get wheels stolen all the time esp hondas and toyotas. I got gorilla wheel locks on amazon and asked a local car shop to install them tho and it costed me around 60 bucks. since then my car has been safe.

I live in South Florida where crime is rampant. I have only heard of rims/tires being stolen ONCE in the last 30 years. It takes wayyyyyyyyyy too much time and noise to steal tires when you can steal the entire car in bout 30 seconds. Unfortunately Amna, you were an ultra rare occurrence.

In the real world what you are saying does not work with these arrogant dealers. They just tell you that they can't remove it , basically saying "take it or leave it " . I just bought a new 2024 Toyota basic Corolla with no extras except what is standard like air conditioning and power windows . The car is still in production and the dealer has included a whole list of worthless options to be installed when I pick up the car even though I said I don't want them at a cost of $677. including things like first aid kit , Weatherguard plastic floor guards, we like carpet mats and don't like the plastic ones. Everything is still on my order sheet. They don't care ! I am going to call Toyota Corporate customer service but don't feel confident they will help.

Destination / Delivery charge? Imagine if everyone who sells anything did the same, since all goods are trucked from some remote location. Furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes, food, etc... Bananas come from South America, and destination charges could be very high...Dealers could easily bury this fee into the price without listing is separately just to make us mad. Also, you forgot the "chip fee". Due to supposed shortage of chips some dealers (KIA) charge $ 10,000 for chip fee on some models. I won't be buying a new car any time soon. I refuse to.

    • @jaynunez6740
      @jaynunez6740 2 роки тому

Actually, every business does this as far as delivery charge, it's part of the COGS (cost of goods being sold). They just won't tell you it's already added in the price. People don't notice it because businesses ship hundreds of containers of all products you mentioned. When this delivery charge is factored in the price, it's basically peanuts.
