- During a Q&A at Vanderbilt University, Michael Pollack asked his childhood idol Billy Joel if he could accompany him on "New York State of Mind." To his surprise, Joel agreed. Pollack talks about the incredible opportunity, after which Joel told the audience to remember Pollack's name.
It was one of these wonderful moments when the magic of music is so obvious ... I can't say how many times I watched it and I still enjoy watching it from time to time. Thank you both 😊
I'm soooo jealous! I'm 19 years young & I too understand the absolute brilliance behind Billy Joel's music. He is my favorite artist in the world & it really sucks that most of my generation doesn't even know who he is. He is truly a sensational, untouchable artist. Soo lucky!
Mandi Martin his song "temptation" still gives me goosebumps
Two great men: Billy Joel and Michael Pollack.
Don't forget Matt Lauer!
what I wanna know is who in their right mind, or any mind, could give this thumbs down? Good for you fella, and never quit believing in yourself. Billy Joel was once a young and exuberant guy like yourself!
great job. Any musician is so jealous of you. You nailed it man.
Amazing I'm happy for the kid Billy Joel is great musician no matter what
AWESOME MICHAEL GOOD LUCK!!!
where's the rest of the interview?
Proud of you Michael. Da man.
Outstanding, Michael...... many years I had a similar experience, not involving a world-renowned celebrity but some local celebrities at a local club and they were playing a benefit show for the Labor Day telethon and were inviting anyone to come up and jam with them....some of my friends dared me to go up and offer to sing a tune with them. After a couple of beers I did that...and it was like happened to Michael...I was more nervous asking them....but once the band started to play, all the nervousness left me and I performed my chosen song with them, and well, my friends didn't call me chicken anymore. You, Michael, are the rare lucky person who got to perform for a real celebrity, and did outstanding too. like Billy said "Guy's got chops!"
Wonderful.
Awesome Job Mike
and Michael kicked ass,
Are you Fred's brother? LoL well done son! You are on your way to stardom!
I was at a house party one time and I just got off playing beer pong. I saw a piano, went over, sat down and began to play "Don't stop believing" by Journey. When I was done playing, this cute girl sat down on that piano bench with me and began talking to me. I clearly saw that she was interested in me... possibly turned on by my playing piano? I don't know but soon after that, we took some shots and I took her upstairs and we got busy busy ^^ Basically, you guys should learn Piano lol
My idol was Buck Dharma since I was like 12, and I was learning to play rock guitar w/ BOC's records.... I could only imagine getting to play w/ my idol at a young age. Wow, that must feel absolutely mind blowing! Better that any drug.
I should learn the piano...
I have searched forever and I can't find the footage of him playing after this brief interview. Does anyone know where to find it? I wanted to see which song he chose to play for the today show...
it's five years later, but here's the link ua-cam.com/video/htZnpnoHGgY/v-deo.html
