This is one of the best explainers I’ve ever heard on mobile reception that explains it in a way a layman can understand.

Great video, what 4G LTE router would you recommend for my situation, 10 miles from tower, yes lots of trees, in the mountains 4000ft elevation, band 12, 71?

We don't make specific product recommendations, our approach is to provide you with information to help you make your own decision on what's best for your individual needs. You can read our reviews of many different routers in our Gear Center: www.rvmobileinternet.com/gear/mobile-routers/

Nice video. You should really address roaming with MVNOs. That's a huge issue if you are not using a major carrier - especially in rural areas.

4:40 I did not know that a cell tower might not talk to you if you were "too far away". How is this determined? Is there anything you can do to get around it? I was considering getting a 150' ham radio mast and an antenna rotator to be able to get online after hurricanes. Seems like that might be pointless now.

    • @MobileInternetResourceCenter

It's a setting that is made when the tower is configured. You'd get around it by moving closer to the tower. 150' would be pretty extreme for higher frequency signals to move over without lots of signal loss.

@@MobileInternetResourceCenter oh yeah I'd definitely have to put the modem on the tower next to the antennas. Any cable that could carry the signal that far wouldn't be worth the cost.
I'm just surprised that such a "feature" exists. I guess I should do more research on my own to see exactly how distance is calculated (like if it's round trip latency).
      Thanks for the reply!

It is indeed based on timing - the tower has a window of time programmed that it listens for a response, and anything too far away that answers is ignored. So there is no getting around this, unless you can exceed the speed of light.
It is possible that some towers are set with no distance limit programmed in though.

You may be able to get around it by creating a vacuum between your antenna and the tower antenna.

I have a mofi 4500. looking for the best MIMO antenna to boost my upload from 1.5 mbps throughput. There are a lot of videos of various solutions but the rarely discuss upload performance.

    • @MobileInternetResourceCenter

A lot of factors play into upload performance, and the right solution will vary widely by location and local area signal conditions. Our members have access to years of testing data with various antennas and boosters we've had out in the field.

Did you ever wonder if the network providers 'recognize' a speed test running and temporarily give you unlimited bandwidth while the test is running?

    • @MobileInternetResourceCenter
      @MobileInternetResourceCenter  2 роки тому +1

T-Mobile did this for a while, but changed behavior after being called out about it. Right now I think speed test can be trusted on all carriers, but comparing different test sites can help confirm this if you suspect something weird.

@@MobileInternetResourceCenter I don't, just being snarky. I dealt with carriers for many years and have a built-in level of skepticism when it comes to any carrier. Enjoy your winter in Benson

what I've noticed in anime apps you need a minimum of 10mbps for flawless streaming thats 1080p on them. however youtube 1080p60 is typically 7mbps. it's kinda bad how them anime apps are worse technically than you...

Google (UA-cam) and Netflix in particular invest a gigantic amount of money into streaming technology and servers, so it is no surprise at all they achieve better compression.

This just does not help. Toooooo much talk and not enough specifics!! You are confusing me more than I already am!!! I just want to travel in my RV with my iPhone on a Verizon plan, and be able to use my laptop, and stream videos. And here you are talking about everything under the sun with no specifics to recommend. I want to be ready BEFORE i hit the road. This video doesn't help.

This video is specifically about data performance, which is a bit more advanced. Would recommend starting with our getting started content to get a better foundation on the basics (then this information will become relevant): www.rvmobileinternet.com/getting-started
