  • So we found this footage from 2013 on an old drive and decided to finish it. Younger and thinner, but it's still me and the G&T is still the best hot weather drink ever devised.

    • @robdielemans9189
      @robdielemans9189 3 роки тому +4

      It is far from simple, yes you add just a couple of compounds together, but the compounds themselves are complex in nature. It reminds me of the favourite dish of Ferran Adrià, which is pan con tomate, but then how do you make a good olive oil or bread, where does the flower come from, etc., so once again simple in nature, simple in compounds, but far from simple. The same goes for gin (it easily could contain 40 aromatics) and tonic.

    I bonsai'd a small lime tree for a lady friend that only has the occasional drink in summer. Every ten days a full size lime would be ready during the hot season. The "bouquet" that a freshly picked lime added to the drink was just amazing. Most fruit lose this trait within two days of being picked. Even added a small Bay window over the kitchen sink to catch the sun in beautiful White Rock, BC, Canada.

After much experimentation, I think I've found the perfect G&T recipe. Put two ounces of gin with the juice of half a lime in a cocktail shaker, fill it with ice, shake for 20 seconds or so, strain into a glass that's also filled with ice, top it off with a bottle of Fever Tree elderflower tonic.

    Gin and tonic is my favorite cocktail, because everybody knows how to make it and as long as you use quality ingredients, it’s impossible to mess up.

    G & T or any classic gin drink really, is my favorite refreshing drink on a warm day. My name sake liquor and happy to say I've toured a gin distillery in The Netherlands. Excellent example of top notch ingredients making the drink ever so better. Current favs: Aviation, St George, and Sipsmith gins and Q tonics. Always w/ a lime.

    Ah, my Mom's drink of choice since...ever. Every Spring she can't get the back porch cleaned up fast enough so she can sit out there and enjoy a G&T.

      They are my parents favorite and I never enjoyed the taste in my 20s and most of my 30s but then one day I had one and it just clicked for me. Developing taste buds(or dying ones maybe?

      @@nilus2k Because there was always Gin in the cupboard when I was underage I would sneak it and I did get a bit sick of it. Back then she would buy the cheap stuff like Gordons or Seagrams but her tastes have improved and now she springs for the Tanqueray.

    Have to say, using a Tonic syrup (or 'concentrate' as Alton calls it here) really did up my GT game significantly. Before I found a tonic syrup I liked, GT was a drink for extremely hot summer days on a boat. Now, once I got it adjusted to my particular taste, it's more of an all-round refresher for whenever I feel I need a little extra zing in a busy day.

    A man of class and good taste, I see! As a fellow Southerner, I will also swear by the medicinal properties of a good gin and tonic with lime. My da's favorite was always Tanqueray, but I'm partial to Bombay Sapphire myself.

    Thanks for posting this! I spend most of my days drinking neat bourbon. But G&T is my very favorite cocktail. I love the challenge of making more complicated drinks, but none of them satisfy me as much as a bit of gin, a bit of tonic, and a bit of lime on ice.
