The thing is, today Bethany would be around 30 years old so unless she is dead if she is still having no contact with her mother it's because that is HER choice. That said, a parent who has custody of a child, legal or otherwise, can spend a lot of time poisoning that child's mind against the non-custodial parent so that even when she gets old enough to initiate contact herself she does not do so because she has been so brainwashed about the parent she has not seen for decades. What a shame this is. Bethany could well be dead but if she is alive if she has been told stories of how her mother mistreated her or her mother doesn't want her or some other such story designed to turn her against her mother, I would hope that she would be adult enough to contact her mother and learn for herself the type person she is. And I wish she would realize that just because her dad is her dad does NOT mean he's not also a big fat liar and she does not need to take as gospel every word that came out of his mouth. I have a family member who was the victim of being kidnapped by her noncustodial mother who took her to another state. That happened DECADES ago and back then one state would not enforce another state's custody rulings so her mother was never forced to bring her back to her father who actually won custody. She was raised on a pack of lies about her father and based on those lies she has no contact with her father because she still, to this day, believes all the lies her mother told her. She refused to believe that her sainted mother is a bald faced liar and also her dear old mom was in reality an adulterer to the point that the paternity of her sister is in question. It's a shame how parents mistreat a child in order to stick it to an ex spouse whom they now despise.
I thought the same things. Sketch looks SPOT ON like the mom. I think she hid the girl she showed no emotion, like at all. The dad's a POS, but I don't think he harmed her. I think it's the Mother.
Rachel Woodard Exactly. People on here apparently don’t have the common sense to understand that the sketch is from 2001. I’m pretty sure the mom looked different in 2001 than she does now.
This episode is a great example of when speaking up and defending yourself can actually make you look better. Her dad speaking out and defending himself makes him seem more innocent then all the other people who just run and avoid the interview.
I have a theory, and I'm wondering who else feels this way. Jonnie was being abused by Larry and was fearful of him. Bethany was scared of him too and Jonnie was at the point where she was regretful of becoming involved with him and in fight-or-flight mode. One day she coordinates with her mother to intercept Bethany from the mall and take her into hiding where Jonnie can still contact her and see her. Bethany would recognize Jonnie's mother, her grandmother, and go willingly, or even have knowledge of this plan, herself. Then Jonnie made up the "distant relative in-law" thing so that the woman in the sketch could never be tracked down. The sketch is such a viable lead but I truly believe it to be Jonnie's mom, after hearing everything said in this video. Nothing about this reads as a covered-up murder/true crime case. At all. His behavior is pretty normal, nothing more than a man living with some regrets. There seemed to be no forensic evidence pointing at his involvement, either. I could see Bethany having changed her name and being somewhere alive and well.
Thanks for saving me the time of writing this comment, that’s exactly what I thought! Once he said “it actually looks a bit like Jonnie’s mom” I said wait a minute.. then rewatched her interview, the sketch looked like the mom, certainly an older version of what she would have looked like 20 years ago.
There is something very off about this whole case and something with the mom doesn’t sit right with me.. edit: reminds me of the British case of Shannon Matthews who’s mom kidnapped her and left her with a family member for attention + money
It happens all the time, may daughters father didn’t see her for 4 years when she was younger. Wonders why she wants nothing to do with him now that she’s an adult.
First, I believe the father! Second, the drawing looks like the mother! And, I bet she tried to enroll her daughter in the school that was reported. I think the mom set it up for her daughter to want to go to the mall. Again - As a set up! Now, the daughter may be in hiding, or with family who (thinks they are) "protecting" her. I hope she is alive and well. And, hopefully one day we all can hear from her!
I don't trust that mother one itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny, ityy-bity, tiny, miniscule, little bitty bit of a tid-bit. Ya know, not one iota. If one of the parents is involved, I imagine the smart young woman that child grew into, will not come forward until her "kidnapper" (whichever one of her parents) has passed away, so as to protect him/her from punishment. I'm pretty sure that non-custodial parental kidnapping has a statute of limitations. It has been 20yrs...should be getting close to it
the dad is the only guy I've seen on these videos that actually talked about the case when asked to at the house to give more information to the crime watch daily.
Did you notice his quick look left before he said he said he had no involvement in her disappearence. His voice is convincing but his body language through the interview suggests that he's lying. However, those aren't always good indicators because sometimes people have mannerisms that can make them seem like they're lying. He was definitely uneasy the whole time and not in the way that you would expect. You would expect him to be uneasy with grief but he was really more uneasy with the allegations and police labeling him a suspect. He also talked about the hypothetical situation of him taking his daughter to Mexico in his truck. If he did take his daughter to Mexico in the truck, the truck would be much easier to find. it would have a DOT number associated with his name and information. Anyone who was in his situation smart enough to think about order of events would realize that that is where the police would look first. So, I feel like he was trying to manipulate thoughts about the case with that story but it could very well be that he was saying like why would I take a van down to Mexico I had other options if I were doing it. Still weird though. The mom seems off to me too though... Very little body language almost like she had a pre-rehersed story that she was telling. She also had no apparent anger towards the father and not a lot of emotion about losing her daughter. However, that could have been a result of telling the story for 20 years. I think the mom is more credible for two reasons, she actually has a witness in the family who could verify that the dad was manipulative to the young girl and the Dad tried to abduct her from her school a month earlier. I wish that the detective had talked about the abduction from the school because if they were able to verify that the statements from the teachers were true then it points more to the father. In a lot of these crime cases there is a very clear suspect, but in this case, it could have been the mom, it could have been the dad, and it could have been a kidnapping. Hopefully some more evidence comes forward and they're able to find out what happened.
He says "she wanted to go BACK to the mall" as if they were there already yet the investigator tells us no one at the mall could confirm they were inside the mall at all.
Even if the father isn’t guilty of murder, he should be found criminally negligent for letting her go unsupervised and falling asleep when he was in charge of her
Some states you can leave your kid alone at 10, they can be the babysitter for their siblings. Some states I think are 8 and baby sitting strangers is 12. This kid was 11. I don't think he committed a crime in a legal sense.
Did anyone catch that? They said that the day Bethany went missing, her father took her to the mall, with a friend, to go SKATING. When the man interviews Larry in his home, HE says "She went to the mall to go to Claire's and the game room and I stayed in the car and took a nap". That doesn't sound like skating to me. He said he was only napping for half an hour and when he went looking for her, she had vanished. Did he have her paged? Did he alert mall security that she was missing? Did he call her mother/the police?
It’s what she looks like now, but not what she looked like back then. She was much younger looking. But it really does look like her now so perhaps it was her mother.
“Are we leaving daddy?!” .... If what this mother is saying is true, it’s horrible. A child should never be burdened with adult problems. Even if Bethany was horribly abused, it’s up to the adult in the situation to fix it.
I said the same to my Mom when she left my abusive Father while he was at work. It's common to want to leave your home life when your home life is dysfunctional.

EdgyMTB If the sketch looked so much like her now, wouldn’t it be fair to deduce it might have been an aunt or her mother (19 years ago) just as the husband suggested?
Lindsay Saunders The reporter was aggressive questioning the father and he still came across more genuine than the mother who was questioned in a very sympathetic manner.
No she didn't, any time she talks about the past it's because she is recalling info from the past. She does not talk about her as if she's dead. I didn't hear either of them refer to her in past tense, they only spoke of past appropriately as one would while recalling memories.
Tracy Anne that’s what I was thinking too. Plus, with this case, both the mother and father *presumably* haven’t seen their daughter in almost 20 years, and she was only 11 when she went missing, so there isn’t very much they _can_ say about her in present tense. They wouldn’t have access to information about her present state.
Ok After hearing the dad talk and re-tell the events of that day in details, I believe him and I'm the "you're guilty until proven not guilty" type. Now that sketch looked so much like the mother and what was she doing? Enrolling her in a new school, obviously someone that cares about her. And the fact that she's never turned up, dead or alive after 17 years, I'm sure the mother planned this and put the whole thing into notion with her daughter approval . Hope she's well and happy where ever she is.
He shouldn't be. He ruined his own reputation by first, lying that he wasn't married. Second, by not even claiming his own children in front of her. Can you blame people for thinking this POS killed his daughter too? He sounds like a typical narcissist.
Larry is despicable and knows deep down what he did. His only interview with crocodile tears, and he has never cooperated since? Not suspicious at all. Also the sketch also looked eerily like the mother too? My prayers for Bethany and her family.
John Carter - Im glad you said that because as soon as i saw that sketch i was floored. It’s possible Mom put her baby underground to keep her safe from what she thought was a very dangerous man and now will face serious consequences unless she remains hidden. My guess is she looks much different and isn’t far from mom. At least i hope 🤞🏻

Sometimes the only way to save your child or yourself from these abusive situations is to eliminate the problem. Literally. Bethany's mother and Bethany should've been protected by law enforcement, but they never do...then it's too late. These cases are heartwrenching. Bethany if you're out there I hope you and your mother reunite. 😔 Heartbreaking.
Mom has retained her beauty throughout the years. Can't imagine what she's gone through for 19 years. Side note: dude may not win any father of the year awards but I don't think he's guilty. Feels like someone saw her laying there and snatched her from the backseat. Poor girl, I hope she's still alive but my instincts tell me no 😔
“She went in supposedly” Did you fall asleep while you were saying yes she could go in the mall?? How do you not know for certain if she went in the mall and why would you let your 11yr old go in a mall by herself anyway?? I’m praying she’s alive and doing well and if Larry is involved in her disappearance, may he live out the rest of his days in the worst pain ever!!!!
You're 100% right. This are facts, yet everyone here is saying it was the mom because "she seems so sketchy" and "the dad seems so innocent". But the facts say Larry did something to her
I don't believe it. Has her mother never picked her up from school before? Otherwise why would she do that.. And wouldn't a school call the cops if a teacher was assaulted? Or a child grabbed? The mother has all kinds of papers but only one official letter.
Who was her legal guardian? Why didn’t the school call any type of authority after he assaulted a teacher and drug her out of school? Wth is going on? I don’t understand this nonsense.
I asked my mom that when I was around that age, but I didn't call him dad because he's never been a dad to me. Also I live in Nashville, so this happened close to where I live. I need to do more research, but I feel like that she wasn't kidnapped by someone in the mall. If there's no video proof that she was even there, and the dad was telling the truth, then the only place she could've got kidnapped was walking to the mall, which is very unlikely because someone would see something. I think that one of them are involved. The mom is giving me weird vibes, and that's not usual for me. She's acting weird. I really hope Bethany's okay though.
MAYBE the mom hid her away somewhere........MAYBE it was the G-Ma (Mom's Mother) that tried to enroll her. The Mother's story seems off. WHATEVER the case it is a sad situation.
it didn't seem to get her. the mother looks like the woman in the sketch, and the way she spoke about her ex husband sounded like the definition of parental alienation. I'm not convinced she didn't have something to do with this case.

You say you can’t find court documents like that means something. I’m a survivor of an extremely bad abusive ex. We had a child and my life became so dependent on him. I did not go to the police out of fear for myself and my child as well as fear of trying to financially support a child. The only reason it ended up being known by the police and courts is because of how brutal it became in the end. Women in these situations do not usually call the police or file charges in court until the choice is taken from the women with pure brutality and we end up in the hospital a few times.

I think the mom hid her all these years, and the reason the daughter doesn’t come forward now that she’s an adult, is because she knows her mom will go to jail
This case is really off. Mom seems a bit (IDK) untruthful? deceitful? just off somehow. IDK if she's lying/exaggerating about her ex &/or about Bethany. The Dad shouldn't have let her go into the mall by herself (I'm sure he regrets that now). IF mystery woman is Larry's Family member then I would think the police would have found her by now. Wellll maybe not since they haven't even spoken to Larry - which leads to - WHY in the hell haven't the police talked to Larry?!?!? He seemed very straight forward answering all the questions. He came off more sincere than Johnnie did!
I think the dad did go to the mall with his daughter and then the mom picked her daughter up there and now the mom is hiding her because she didn't want to share custody.
So many children suffer from the adults’ decisions.I feel incredibly blessed for the parents I have and that I wasn’t born in an extramarital relationship
this is the first time i have ever seen on crime watch daily or the news where a suspect comes on camera and does a short interview, thats so rare i didnt expect the father was gonna talk to crime watch daily not that i believe him though
After the dad talked to Jason, it makes me wonder if he IS innocent. I feel like 9 times out of 10 on these episodes, the people that are "suspects" usually shut these interviewers completely down..shut the door in their face, drive away etc. He seemed very willing to talk. IMO I feel like the mom had something to do with Bethany being "missing" like maybe she planned this kidnapping plot out so that way her daughter who she says clearly didn't want to be around her dad, wouldn't have to be anymore. I mean weirder shit has happened 🤷
the mother is fishy too. She has has something to do with that disappearance . She doesnt show much emotion when they ask her "what do you miss most about Bethany?" 11:54 that "everythiiiing".. Oh gosh
Definitely and the way she made it out like Bethany was scared of her dad. And yes she might have been scared of him but the way she describes it just seems off
In an earlier section of this video he says “they” meaning both he AND Bethany took a nap in the parking lot but his story changed on this segment interview at his house. I am not sure why he has not been charged with any crime. It is obvious he was if nothing else negligent in her care. Adults are charged all the time when their negligence causes a child’s death. Why not this man?
I'm sorry, but there's a literal police report with MULTIPLE witnesses that attested to him trying to pull Bethany by the arm through the school trying to take her and pushing teachers away. I don't know that he's a murderer, but the fact that he tried to take her once in such a public way tells me he's likely taken her and hidden her elsewhere.
Mom seemed iffy to me, plus the sketch looks like her, imo mom set father up seems she hated his guts otherwise whu would you continue to let him have the kid if hes abusive to them and such a bad guy... But none of us will ever know the real truth been too long
having been divorced by a crazy ex, some of the things she's stating sound just like what my ex would say. "mommy, will I stop biting my fingernails now that daddy's gone"? what 11 year old talks like that!? "mommy, are we leaving daddy!? yay!" that sounds like something she made up in her own mind. And of course there's abuse with no evidence. Mom looked like an emotionless robot. That FBI agent looks like the believe all women type. If in 18 years she hasn't made a breakthrough, I would get rid of her and get someone else on the case.
Her saying the kid went "Oh wow I'm gonna not have to chew my nails any more because my dad is not around" doesn't sound like somebody her age would say. Her mom is lying
Tennessee court system is so corrupt. It’s scary, & I live here I hate this state more than anything. But please quit reuploading I’ve watched this 6 or 7 times
Why does his first interview say “they took a nap in the van and she got up and went into the mall” and then on his porch he says he took a nap while she went in for 30mins”
Hold up.. Did she just say "in the 17 years I've been working this case, i haven't spoken with Larry once"?? What in the actual FUCK kind of INVESTIGATOR is she?!? Are you serious? Yea.. They need somebody else on this case. That's ridiculous. That comment alone made me sick to my stomach. Pretty sure THAT is why this girl hasn't been found. If the person that's in charge of finding this girl didn't even speak to the LAST PERSON known to see her ALIVE.. What else has she ignored? She needs a new freakin profession😒
Her story doesn’t ring entirely true. How did he find out which school Bethany was moved to? Why did she wait so long to leave this abusive guy? But overall I believe her.
Just Me it’s not as easy for some people to leave an abusive relationship, especially when you keep holding out hope that the person loves you enough to stop. It’s hard to leave your life’s work sometimes, your home, financial stability, etc. after having invested so many years into a relationship, and sometimes the person keeps promising that they will change. What if you have kids? And believe it or not, it is mentally and physically difficult for some men/women to leave their partner. Some people are lucky that they have the will power to leave as soon as they notice red flags, others will stay and ignore them... not every human thinks alike
This lady broke my heart when she said after a while you forget what their laugh sounds like and what they're like, i have a 1 going on 2 year old niece that has basically been my child since the day she was born and I couldn't ever imagine a day without her laugh or having her there to make me feel better after a hard day of work. I don't think people these days realise how much their children love and depend on them until they are no longer there. Never take the trust and love of your children for granted. Turns out she went missing on my ninth birthday. I hope that one day her mother gets closure and if her father is being genuine I hope he receives closure as well. He seems almost to positive that she's alive like he knows where she is. Then says one day she will come back home.
Reading comments on this & lot of people think mom hid her. But she's like 28- 31yrs old rn, why stay hidden? Statue of limitations on kidnapping is max 15yrs. I mean who wouldn't come forward at that age just to clear things up. But there wasn't a lot of details in this story like most either. TBI didn't say any details of the investigation except for talking to few ppl. I think this is one that needs to be reexamined by FBI starting from scratch.
I thought the dad was guilty they they interviewed him. He acts NOTHING like all the other guilty people running from the cameras. He is super matter of fact about the daughter and the things that happened. I think he knows/assumes the daughter was hidden by the mom and he has just accepted it.

Rachel Woodard Exactly. People on here apparently don’t have the common sense to understand that the sketch is from 2001. I’m pretty sure the mom looked different in 2001 than she does now.
Yep! But I've also seen a lot of people with a type. Where the nice girlfriend or boyfriend looks just like the ex. Just saying
This episode is a great example of when speaking up and defending yourself can actually make you look better. Her dad speaking out and defending himself makes him seem more innocent then all the other people who just run and avoid the interview.
“It just looks familiar” yeah hun it’s you😂
I think it would have been her mother or something, she didn’t look like that back then.
How would she have her child enrolled in school after she didnt know where her child was?
He even said it looks like her mom, and now she has gotten older and looks like her mom.
Lmfaoooooo
Yes lmfaooooooo
@@autumnleaf3667 I'm glad you agree! I think this theory actually makes a lot of sense.
That's exactly what I thought as well. That sketch looks just like Jonnie but older.
@Kimberly Morales definitely an odd case. But this theory lends hope.
There is something very off about this whole case and something with the mom doesn’t sit right with me..
edit: reminds me of the British case of Shannon Matthews who’s mom kidnapped her and left her with a family member for attention + money
I agree. The sketch looked like the mom, and the mom seems to be withholding info. 😶

My parents don't bother with me or my son.. it's a common occurrence I'm afraid.. 💔
It happens all the time, may daughters father didn’t see her for 4 years when she was younger. Wonders why she wants nothing to do with him now that she’s an adult.
Joe Kulik, Absolutely agree! She knew before she married him.. he was a bad guy!! But, she still married him!
Whered that happen? Oh you fabricated it in your mind, ok
That woman sketch looks like the mom? 😂😭 I'm tripping out lmao
Yep!!!
Sure does..
NO YOU ARE NOT TRIPP'N. SHE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE MOM. I WONDER IF SHE KNOWS WHERE HER DAUGHTER IS, WON'T TELL SO THEY CAN RAIL ROAD THIS MAN.
Nah you're not tripping. that's definitely THE MOTHER.
As soon as I saw the sketch I’m like that looks a lot like the mom.
As soon as I saw the sketch I thought it looked like the mother 😭
This was 20 years ago, she would have been younger, so it probably was Jonnie’s mom just like the father said the sketch looked like.
It has been 20yrs...should be getting close to it
@@autumnleaf3667 they said the sketch was of a fourty year old and mom here is looking late fifties- sixty...
the dad is the only guy I've seen on these videos that actually talked about the case when asked to at the house to give more information to the crime watch daily.
100%
Because he didn't do it. It's more likely a coordinated disappearance between Bethany, the mom and grandma.
They usually talk when they’re innocent
I'm sorry but I just don't think that poor girl is still alive...

The dad did it maybe im wrong he was the last person to see her alive
I agree... and it’s absolutely heartbreaking
@baselinebaz at 8:18 there was no proof she was ever at the mall...
Agreed 😔
I’m astounded how much I did a 180 from the beginning to end of this. I don’t think he did it.
He definitely did it or knows who did
Did you notice his quick look left before he said he said he had no involvement in her disappearence.
Same..

I CAUGHT THAT
I’m from Jackson. There’s no skating rink in or near that mall. Never has been. This confused me

The daughter could be scared of the father and suffering abuse herself too. It's not that strange if they talked about that theme before hand

I kind of thought the same thing.
I thought the same damn thing lol!! And I feel she’s not being genuine, like no tears or worry on that woman’s face!! Weird.
Um, the sketch kinda looks like the mom. The dad didn’t talk about his daughter like she is deceased. Never once in past tense. But mom did.
Dad denied his own 2 children, while still married, when they were in the street waving at them in the car... Yeah, nothing shady about this guy 😳😔.
Time stamp of when mom talked about her in past tense? (In instances where it would be inappropriate to do so)
No she didn't, any time she talks about the past it's because she is recalling info from the past. She does not talk about her as if she's dead. I didn't hear either of them refer to her in past tense, they only spoke of past appropriately as one would while recalling memories.
The mom spoke in present tense. When interviewer asks to describe, she say "she is...etc". Not she WAS.
Wonder if his "friend" had something to do with it. Y would he say he would go to Mexico like it doesn't make any sense.

I asked my mom that when I was around that age, but I didn't call him dad because he's never been a dad to me. Also I live in Nashville, so this happened close to where I live. I need to do more research, but I feel like that she wasn't kidnapped by someone in the mall. having been divorced by a crazy ex, some of the things she's stating sound just like what my ex would say.
@@matthewstevens2274 Exactly mate
If the father has court ordered visitation, she has to allow him visits. Even if unsupervised.
The sketch is the mom smh 🤦🏻♀️
Her saying the kid went "Oh wow I'm gonna not have to chew my nails any more because my dad is not around" doesn't sound like somebody her age would say. Her mom is lying
You could tell by the look on the interviewers face and the way he sounded when asking questions that he knew Jonnie was bullsh*tting him.
Her daughter literally said "Mom, what happens if daddy doesn't let me come back?"
Her mom:
*Nah it's ok, I'll just let you go with him-*
Right! That's what I thought.
You don’t have a choice when it comes to custody orders, or it works against you
We don’t know she said that.
Kim Lynn yea I felt like some of the things she said didn’t seem legit. Or... the whole story she told seems one sided and a little off tbh.
@th1smomentisfate Legally, no
Tennessee court system is so corrupt. It’s scary, & I live here I hate this state more than anything. But please quit reuploading I’ve watched this 6 or 7 times
M Smith They have to be reuploads, Crime Watch Daily isn’t on the air anymore.
Also, i like that they keep reuploading it, maybe someone will watch it and have some info and call it in.
M Smith ... Just stop watching if it upsets you.
Then don’t watch it. Lol
Daisy Cassidy who said it upsets me? Lmfao what in my comment did you get about being upset? Some people should just learn to keep scrolling.
When the dad spoke real quick....did ya pick up in when he said.....""IT WAS A MISTAKE AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT""😱
Her mother hid her, changed her identity and sent her to a family. She was upset about the father having another family. My opinion
What a heartbreaking story! I can’t imagine the pain & suffering her family is going through.
You’re my favorite reporter
I dont think the dad is lying
This lady is weird, i don’t believe her
Her story doesn’t ring entirely true.
Just Me Also, as regards the school, when someone wants to find someone, if they are persistent enough, they can and will find them.
Why would the mom even let her go with him?? That sketch looks like the mom imo
Court order she had no choice or she would go to jail and then the daughter would still go to her unsupervised visit
