- The LOSAT in War Thunder is the top reward for the Tokushu Heiki event. The LOSAT is a US Tank Destroyer that uses a kinetic energy missile to overcome the enemies armour making it one of the most unique vehicles in the game.
Unfortunately, it's VERY buggy right now. So, today... we're going to test it in the live servers! Is it any good? Debatable! Could it be better if it was fixed? Definitely!
As far as missile tanks go this is definitely not the worst in the game. The only thing letting it down is its poor elevation and of course the wobbly missiles. If this gets fixed, it could definitely be pretty decent on some longer range maps!
Is the LOSAT worth it? We're going to find out! :)

The biggest upside of this vehicle is the sheer hilarity of the killcam when an APFSDS round the size of a telephone pole just sheers through the tank
And the very little shrapnel that accompanies it compared to its size...
Doesn’t work in the game. Everything that was on the test track that made you want this vehicle is absolutely the opposite when you get it into real battle. It doesn’t penetrate armor anything like it does on the test track another trick by gaijin.

@@pikantoz7146 well, you would know that if you would’ve tested it before you unlocked it, the missiles flew completely straight. They had no curvature in the vehicle fired on the move and it also didn’t roll back-and-forth like a boat.
Dont forget it should obliberate any tanks with it massive ass telephone pole and yet some time it only kill 1 crew man

Well the missiles should actually be more accurate since the targeting system in real life could fire at two tanks simultaneously and the missiles should fly a bit straighter off launch
Also the X-Ray shots is bugged. It shows the whole missle penetrating the vehicle instead of the internal dart. Quite the comical sight tbh

It's not bugged it's just not modeled that the missile itself gets destroyed on impact, it's not like the dart detaches midair

This missile really shows how much the netcode bugs up all the missiles. The nerf to missiles from a few months ago wasn't supposed to make them as bad as they are in a live match. The predictive guidance needs to be dampened a lot. Might make it slightly harder to hit evasive targets, but a lot easier to hit nonmoving targets.
The physical missle model really messed up fast atgms.
Damped is exactly right. It should actually make it much easier to hit moving targets, since even a basic PID controller is going to critically damp the oscillation very effectively.

They actually seem to have updated the launch trajectory today where it pops up a little first. Yesterday it did not do that for me and its made it more reliable at range and even stranger at close range.
Yeah the missile comes out the tube going basically Mach one but gaijin is braindead so the missile acceleration and burn time is completely scuffed alongside the tracking
So we get F-100 with less gun, the missile that doesn't know where it is, low tier AGM, and a ship I'm certain the 3 people that get it will certainly do something with. Can't say I'm all that upset about missing this event.
The actual crafting event is RNG as well, you get " defective " parts that nearly resets your progress in crafting.

@@multimemer5317that's even worse, as it's an artificial dam to prevent you from reaching the goal. Not RNG "crafting chance", but rather just something purely to frustrate you and your efforts even more so than the soul crushing grind this game demands.

I like how it had the problem of the missile dipping when it fires which in reality, it didn't do, the round flew straight as an arrow after launch and they fixed it by instead making the arrow arch UP when it fires lmao
I don’t know if anyone has noticed but the ground RP gains seems to be lessened. I got 11 kills 2 assists and only got about 5k rp. This was with the turm lll and it seems different.
I got a 3 kill air rb game in the Saab-105g and got 3k rp where I would’ve normally got 7

We knew the missiles were kinda screwed but this gameplay showed the problem much more clearer
Man gaijin just made this tank absolutely shit with how the missiles for some bizzare reason can't fly straight and level, instead corkscrews everywhere, inexplicably lofts up, or dumps into the ground. And the fact that a hypersonic kinetic energy missile gets stopped by cover is stupid, when in reality it had so much kinetic energy (80kg kinetic energy missile going at ~1500m/s is a shit ton of energy) that it obliterated its test targets into confetti. Like why? Why can't you make sense Gaijin? Why can't you make good, reliable event vehicles?

Yeah Odd I cannot imagine how bad this missile is with high ping (F for Australian players,) I'm getting an average of 25-65 ping depending on the server cluster it puts me in and the missile rarely ever hits where I'm aiming past ~1.2km. Hopefully they fix this, but I doubt it, since it's the same bug that plagues the ADATS missile for many months now.
It's been a few months now and gaijin still refuses to fix the ATGM problems. I don't think they have even acknowledges their existence despite being so incredibly obvious
One thing worth mentioning a major mount for these things was supposed to be the roofs of regular utility vehicles, not the armored vehicle setup in game.
Random Humvees being able peek you and make you disappear four times in 3 seconds is a scary thought.
Well irl the launcher was tilted slightly upwards to counteract the missile from hitting the ground and help the missile get up to speed effectively.
Yea, but the missile flew straight from the go, without guidance it would fly at a constant alight upward angle identical to the tube angle.
In game it falls down if you are on a back slope and up when on an incline... so 100% a bug... and they "fixed" it by making the missile go up even more... so on an incline you are launching a rocket to the moon.
Funny how the krizantema has no struggle with missile dip, wobble, or guidance. Almost like gaijin doesn't want the LOSAT to be good and only want players to pay for it
"I just wish I had a normal gun" is a pretty damning review of this thing.
I really hope the fix this thing, because it's a very weird and cool vehicle.
They need to reintroduce the old atgm system back for this vehicle to work properly, firing on the move and atgm indicator so u dont waste 1 missile to test if u are elevate enough, also 1 extra 12 shots reload because i aint going to cap zone to reload for 2 minutes when there are no friendly to protect me.
@@ZzVinniezZ I agree wiith everything except the extra ammo. They should just make the restock time much faster and remove the reloading time after you restock.

Hey Odd, love your vids and learned quite a bit from them. Today i was able to launch my first nuke and while its not much in the grand scheme it felt like a small accomplishment. Anyway keep up the nice vids and have a good one.
I think they broke missiles on many vehicles. Even in terms of aircraft, the AS-30 Nord on the Milan is pretty wiley as well for some reason
Missles were given a proper in game physical model which means that it gets screwed by the ping
Probably the MG would be more useful than the missiles themselves lol
Sad part is that mg even have limited elevation which u cant use it like a turtle to shoot down aircraft....so yeah...this thing is so sad

As someone who has the losat it's very limited on what it can do. Ot doesn't go up or down and can't shoot on the go. But if you manage to connect it'd very deadly

But yeah we need more shitty technicals. pickup trucks with t-34 turrets, scooters with recoilless rifles, motorcycles with machine guns.

Those were pretty much the exact statements that ran through my mind too.
I've noticed a similar bug with ah-1f tow missiles towards the end of their range. They start to wiggle more and more on their path. Not so mush in test drive though.
Would be neat to see you try using the stormer at present also, just to showcase how much non rus nations get shafted. They nerfed it hard with the missile changes and that was after already nerfing it previously.

From what I can tell the guidance system should have some elevation especially since it is meant to kill things at a long distance. It is just inaccurately modelled. For the record the turret does not elevate but the tracking system's camera (for lack of a better word) should have considerably better elevation.

That killcam at 15:32 where the whole missile just ricochets off of the ammo storage is just Gaijin's recent masterwork in how not to make a viable and functional game.
Looks like the missile is so god damn fast that it doesn't know what to do with prediction on the server side when it's being moved remotely by the user, making it spazz out.
Your analysis looks bang on, this seems to be a networking issue.

At 15:40 you mentioned you could do better with a t34-85. Could that be the next challenge video then? A top tier t34.
My favorite war thunder content creator (Bo Time Gaming) did a video right before Gaijin "patched" the missile behavior. It was on the IT-1. Gaijin said they're adjusting the ATGMs, and their flight after launch, and its definitely broken compared to how it was before 3 months ago. Maybe gaijin watched a bunch of kids cartoons and figured that's how missiles are supposed to work? or a lot of low-budget action movies where the "missiles" are actually firecrackers, and their flight path is "let's veer off comically to the right or left just after launch.."
Would love to see you play the Ratel 20. It's a Ratel with a 20mm cannon that's pretty good against light vehicles and sometimes aircraft, and ATGMs at 6.7. It's not amazing or anything, but definitely pretty good if you can make it good! I think you could enjoy such a rat vehicle.
As goofy as this thing is, it's a real shame I won't be able to grind for it since I'm currently deployed.
The LOSAT is and always has been one of my favorite pieces of tech, so it's no wonder Gaijin would do an event like this when I'm not able to play the game.

It is just like Strv103 a few years back. It wriggles very hrad, basically impossible to aim on slopes or when there is a body near it (like teammates, enemies and dead bodies).
the laser guided missiles do tend to go out of your aim and miss but it's not a big difference between the place of impact and the point you are well, pointing the missile to but since the losat's missiles are so fast maybe it widens the difference ? idk

I saw Phly’s video on this thing, and he was having the issue of the missiles constantly landing in front of him 30 meters away…
Partly due to him sitting on downslopes and partly from the missile dropping before it gets up to speed. The second part has been hotfixed and they get a bit of lift right after launching. But you still don't want to fire while your launcher is pointing at the ground.
Tbh the missile issues is not just on this vehicle. The ACRA is also a terrible offender when it comes to not going where you aim. It seems that the faster the missile is, the more it wiggles due to server lag. I think it’s because they only update their flight path every so often to not tax the server to much, but that causes them to overshoot everytime before updating their flight path on the crosshairs, and the faster and nimbler the missile is, the more it will overshoot.
But with that there is also the issue that if you have a bad internet connection, the missile just won’t go where you aim, and kinda of will only go in certain predetermined places, so it physically can’t be aim in 80% of the places you want it to go. Those 2 issues makes me unable to use the AMX10M which I wish I could play because it looks so funny

I recently saw a video of a Japanese type 10 tank shooting. It hat a reload of Minimum 2.5 to 3.0 seconds or so.
6:29 that is War Thunder at its best. All kinds of cool shit to look at and sounds to hear.
Missiles of all sorts are effected by ping. With my Aussie ping of 170 - 400+ ping this is easily seen. Atgm were impossible to use for over a year if you were Australian.
Yo Odd I think the issue with the missile comes from the game itself. If you look at some of those modded planes with 10x engine power etc. After they go a certain speed the plane just starts jittering. Same thing that is happening to this missile by the looks of it. Might be whats going on but idk

I saw earlier today the snail has committed to fixing this vehicle and having better testing for future vehicles. Normally I'd be skeptical but with their recent track record who knows?
The update from today made the missiles a bit more stable. Also it no longer blows up when it hits stuff. 😊

For some reason all atgms now act like this. My bmp1 missles just dive right into the ground 99 percent of the time

The way the missle wiggles is similar to the ADATS now after they nerfed basically every western missle; i try to hit a tank with it and the missle is just having a seizure while guiding in and 8/10 it hits a spot i cant penetrate.
Its not just western missiles, both IT-1 and BMP-2 i play have the same issue. Missile just dives into the ground upon launch, or constantly goes off-course resulting in non-pens. I mean, at least they kinda nerfed IT-1 that way.

I love these vids but I can't help but think of how many people play in a prem and leave after one death trying to be like the content creators. I wish you'd play some lineup videos.
For some god forsaken reason the missile always fly up when in test drive, but in server battles it smacks into the ground instantly

Like right now the LOSAT is pretty stable, the biggest upside is due to it being a kinetic round, Russian Kontact ERA is 100% useless as it just blasts through the front of a T-80 with ease. Its a very situational vehical where you take it with you in a big lineup, and if the map is good, you take it out first. Also a good thing about it, if you do manage to find a slope to angle it upwards, its actually pretty decent at taking out helicopters.
I got my LOSAT on the last day of the event so I dont think I ever encountered the spazzy missile, but at least its fixed now.
Looks like they've partially fixed it; Phy had a vid yesterday where the thing kept nosediving every shot straight into the ground.
That was mostly from Phly not watching where the vehicle was parked. It takes a while to get used to the fact that you can't elevate the turret while sitting on the downslope of a hill. If your hull is angled down your turret is also angled down.

The missile knows where it is....
Something definitely affects the missile on live servers and it causes the missiles to make large, abrupt, changes, instead of small, gentle ones when aiming.

Where did they get that the missile dips down? It has never done that, and every sources shows the opposite, as it launched at speed, and had a minor arch to target.
There is literally nothing that would make it seem like the currently implemented model is even close to right.

If someone is going to play LOSAT try turning on camera from tank gunner sight on. I would like to see if that has impact on LOSAT.
The setting doesn't seem to change anything, the camera seems to come from the gunsight area no matter what
