- Not sure about the details. Looks like some big charity variety show. Notice Patrick Duffy from Dallas introducing Phyllis. She sings it with sooo much feeling and soul. God bless PH.
I wish Phyllis would have kept believing because she was truly phenomenal.
🥺🙌🏾🙏🏾❤❤❤
Agreed!!!
Very talented, very beautiful, very smart.
If she only believed what she sang...so much talent.....I miss her.....she sang to my ❤️ RIP,,,,Queen

Yep
Most people just want to be loved. I don't think that she knew how much she really was!
Her voice was so amazing. One of the most underrated artist of all time
May i humbly ask you to consider supporting me as an independent artist? pls know I am in no way trying to emulate anyone and I just want to sing. Thank you for your willingness to listen to my debut single entitled 'In Love There's A Risk' www.marycross.org. - Mary
She was never underrated.
If she was underrated why in the hell is she performing in front of all them white folks? Some folks just throw that underrated word like nothing u do realize that word can just as well minimize her god given gifts
Underrated? Sheaaat, she was the modern day diva and songstress of her era
SHE WAS THE BEST! THIER LOST THE WORLD !!!!
Damn, she could sing.
I have been Phyllis Hyman fan forever she was my girl
Phyllis sang this wonderful song to me at the Blue note jazz club in NYC upon my special request, one of the greatest moments in my life. Forever in my thoughts.
You were very blessed to have had the opportunity to meet her
Blessed
OMGGGGG you lucky DUCK!!! (wanted to replace duck with bastard but...)
I just love Phyllis Hyman. There was and never will be anyone like her. Such a unique soulful talent. I pray that she has finally found the peace and happiness that she struggled to find during her time on earth. I miss her…..
Most divas pride themselves on their "highs", but if you listen to her "lows" ... such depth and color ... gives me chills.
Exactly! Maxine Jones from En Vogue is another great example of holding down those lows! ❤️🔥
AWESOME SINGER. THIS IS HOW TO SING A SONG LIVE!! MISS HER SO MUCH. ELLEGANCE TO THE FIRST DEGREE!!
Reinaldo Green the 1ST DEGREE!!!
Reinaldo..you got that elegance part right!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I Love Me Some Phyllis Hyman. She Sings From The Heart & Soul.

Everything about Phyllis was exquisite! Thank you for sharing your blessings.
All the others pale in comparison. Thank YOU, Phylis. Your singing is truly amazing.
Hope next lifetime as human beings, that you continue singing like this and that you finally get the RIGHT people to publicize your talent, promote your songs and once again, they will all pale in comparison.
Man! That Phyllis Hyman had the greatest, most soulful, powerful delivery of a song than anyone I've seen! I've really come to understand that since I've become "up in age" now. Thank you, Phyllis!...and thank you, God FOR her.
God created a beautiful baby when he made her
Wow. What a vocalist. Truly one of the best ever. This performance gives me goosebumps. The fact that she wrote this song should also be applauded.
Cas82958 she is incomparable!!! Found this footage maybe 2 years ago been playing it ever since
@@angeljohnson6665 I listen to her music every day. She put something special into everything she sang.
Cas82958 i agree my favorite song of her i listen to everyday is the answer is you
She’s truly an amazing singer and songwriter and dancer 💃I love this song she wrote it’s beautiful 😍
What an angelic voice. You are truly missed...RIP!
Simply Beautiful!!! The current artist in the music industry are talented but Phyllis and other artist really embody the true spirit of music.
And a beautiful woman she was with such style and grace.. Her and late Luther Vandross knew exact how they wanted things composed musically.. That level of arrogance deemed them lots of success.. Only Phyllis never got her just due.. but she to me was one of the best singers ever lived..
Verdell Gillespie she had style
MrSuperman Gillespie ABSOLUTELY
Wish someone would create a duet of her and Luther singing together. Pretty sure there is developed technology to do it. That would sound like two heavenly angels .
I’ll be 33 this year and I must say, she is my vocal inspiration. What a dynamic powerhouse! Most people my age haven’t been blessed enough to come across Ms. Phyllis Hyman. I will be sure to keep her legacy alive by planting her beautiful seeds in the minds and hearts of the children in my family. There will NEVER be another Phyllis Hyman ❤️
I'm here, coming off a post on this performance, on Instagram. I just made a comment, almost similar to yours, about how Phyllis and Luther are at the very very top. Production-wise,they're light years ahead of anyone who qualifies to be called an artist, along with them, and that's a big bonus for them.
She tore this song up!! I swear she is the greatest even in death!! Hands down!! This was an impeccable soul!! Never to grace us again! So sad!! This is timeless!!! This is Music!!
I miss her so much gone to soon.i still play albums !! Love somewhere in lifetime, living in confusion . You could see in the living in confusion the pain and sadness from her soul before she passed away. I won't forget that day in 95 when she passed I was 14 watching video soul I n bet and the news broke. My aunt loved her music to .
Mark minez I know!! I remember seeing that same show on BET Video Soul!! My whole fam was sad!
yeeessssss!!!!!! I feel like cryin every time I watch it!!!!
Brandee Rekknlaw
I know!
SHE WROTE THIS!!
Miss. Thing is fierce and she's feeling this song. Look fabulous. So glad to have this opportunity, but it's bitter sweet. Sad that she's not here with us.
Saw Patti Labelle the other day and thought about what a Grand Diva Pepper would be at 60.
Pepper H. at Peace At Last!
They don't make them like her anymore😢
Shonnda Cooper agreed
This is amazing. Thank you for everything, Phyllis.
Amazing voice, she was beautiful and talented very unique
Did you see the grace she exemplified as she walked out on that stage???!!!???. She was confidence personified ---on stage. I wish she had that same confidence in herself. She was a beautiful woman and is now a beautiful spirit.
Yes. ***** The pain she was harboring was deep. She was not happy with her love life or herself. She wanted to be loved, feel it and experience it...the lasting kind. But she did not lover herself. She was very tall, powerful and in a lot of ways she felt it was a turn off or intimidating... BUT I THOUGHT SHE WAS GORGEOUS. She was beautiful and someone wanted to love her... it was just not in enough time. I miss her.
+Summer Willow she would have been a beautiful model. never heard of her. come across her name on donny Hathaway video.
Summer Willow I saw that too wow!! Ioved it.
AMEN!!
She suffered from depression .
YESSSSSS that is the right word for Phyllis Hyman "Goddess " she sang with no effort, her tones were elliptical, there is no one in today's music industry that can sing like her and has not been anyone since Phyllis Hyman 🎶🎶🎶 and she whistled as well as she sang
“ The things I want I want for you” powerful lyrics. Great song and beautiful lady for sure. I saw her sing in Person and it was great. She was great!
So Beautiful.. r.i.p. Phyllis Hyman; She really feels the music in her bones.. Gone too soon.. Her Beautiful Voice will live forever..
Miss you Phyllis!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for your autograph!!!!
Beautiful...I'm looking forward to a movie about this incredible woman's amazing life, career, and her musical legacy.

Lol ! I don't understand why Jill Scott bought the rights to phyllis Hyman life story from her estate if she doesn't have plans for at least a tv movie about Phyllis. Jason A. Michael has her book and Relentless Aaron have lot of film ??
Cheryl Bandele
Phyllis was and is my favorite musical artist. Her voice was so unique and soulful and touched your heart. I remember coming home from work in my car and heard on the radio about her death. I live in Detroit and Detroit LOVED Phyllis. I was so hurt. It was like losing a family member. She is missed, but we still can enjoy her through her music.

Thank you for the encouragement!
"There's power in the masses, collectively we can win".. we ALL need to heed this message. Love you Miss Phyllis.
It may have already been stated. This was in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his birthday becoming a national holiday. A very apt song and stunning performance. I'm almost certain the background singer on the right is Ullanda McCullough. I did see the original airing, thanks for posting.
I hit like before I heard her start a note. This woman’s voice was phenomenal.
A song inspired by the Black power movement Phyliss was down with the movement.
Angel Johnson. Yes, on June 30, 1995.

Phyllis is immeasurable in her craft. She like others from that era had to work at it and maintain it. There must have been something in the water back then, because a majority of artist of today don't project the image and vocal talents. Most sound flat and can't hold a note.
John Mousser Right
Hi, See was out before Whitney and that demon of Clive Davis put Whitney in front because wouldn't follow the program. Check her on unsung about her documentary.
Wonderful cut from this statuesque diva.
Anthony Choyce yes
Always so beautifully dressed. Charming always and sang with so much emotion. Loyal to her fan base too. Really represented Black women so well. So sad when she departed. One in a million.
She had such confidence in this segment. RIP
Love her. Gone too soon.
Agreed
I remember this. It was a tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the occasion of his birthday, celebrating the national holiday.
wow didnt know that. thank you
Robert Wesley Branch POWERFUL
What year?

She wrote this song too
If my love could have saved Ms Hyman she would still be here. I love you Boo.😘
Love this type of 1970s love songs and music. It literally puts you in a trance. Something about the background vocal arrangements during this time too.
absolutely stunning in every way! rip ms. hyman. one of a kind!
I want too thank the person who took the time out to post this! Phyllis is dearly missed! 24 years! Wow 😯! Such a beautiful woman with a real beautiful voice!
Andrea M7 Jones amen and she died a long time ago!!! so sad
We love her voice ♥️ 💜 💗 💕
STUNNING PHYLLIS HYMAN. THINKING ABOUT OTHERS MAKING CHANGES. LOVE YOU FOREVERMORE 1/17/20 NORTHEAST BALTIMORE STILL LISTENING TO THE GREAT PHYLLIS HYMAN
"gone way too soon, women in show biz in her day had to have some talent, she was the whole package, look what we have today... the more you can take off and twerk, the more attention you get, Beyonce wish she could sing like this, and Phyllis was very easy on the eyes, still she let her voice do the talking... we have seen the last of the great songstress. sad commentary, may she rest in peace.
Jeromegrant Johns she wastalented
Here we go again with the "more you take off, the more attention you get" cilche. The last person I think of when I hear or see Phyllis is Beyonce. They are both extremely talented.
The irony of is that Phyllis actually did a nude spread in a magazine. Beyonce has never done that.
TruthSerum101 bitch stfu gtfoh ugly heffa beyonce ugly big forehead light yellow eyes wishes she was as beautiful as queen phyllis even ashanti janet and amerie shits all over ugly big ears beyonce in looks and talent at least they are original and dont steal artist songs fuck you and ugly ass beyonce
WOW!!,..."GONNA MAKE CHANGES, MAKE MINDS AWARE, COLLECTIVELY WE CAN WIN" A MOVING SONGSTRESS AND POWERFUL LYRICS
I still love Phyllis hyman. My day doesn't begin until I listen to her' I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HER!!!
What can I say about this artist WOW!............I had the good chance to see her twice when I lived in London, she was fantastic,I don't think she would have come to England if it wasn't for Jean Carne urging her, saying she had a big fan base here, she couldn't believe we had heard of her this side of the pond. Jean Carne was another artist not to be missed, saw her with the Norman Conners orchestra ................Amazing
Great memories........................
I'm reading her biograpy right now, "Strength Of A Woman (The Phyllis Hyman Story)"... She wrote this song and dedicated it to Angela Davis (yes, the former fugetive Black Panther).
Look at this Goddess RIP
So true Ms Hyman was black and also bi-racial and she were proud of her back ground.
I think people tend to put so much color into verything these days. Ms Hyman were a
very rarespecimen when it came to music, she did'nt mind putting her all into it.
Sadly so called Divas of today dont share that same emotion or level of artistry.
Ms Hyman will be missed for many generations to come and more .
She was not biracial. Her parents were both Black. Her mother was very light skin tho!
So grateful you posted this. Thanks so much!
Poet Minor queen phyllis in her own class
