They do ... you’re just not listening to the right stuff. Rather than going based on mainstream music, it’s not that hard to download Spotify or Apple Music and you’ll easily find new artists playlists. Also, there’s sub genres and categories to R&B...

@@Das644 it doesn’t have to be mainstream … it was limited in the 2000s and they basically pushed the sound anyway. But does that mean they don’t do stuff like this anymore? No. It just means that the radios/labels are shutting these songs/voices out. And the consumers aren’t making it any better by feeding into the narrative that the music isn’t there

"There used to be a time in my life when we were lovers
And we shared this apartment together just us two
I think of how we planned to get married
Saying love how I used to know you well
Whoa whoa I can't stand this living all alone
Whoa whoa I can't stand this living all alone
Oh I don't want to be alone
Now I live a single life and I find it's another world
I'm not even the same I'm a different girl
    Yesterday I was somebody's baby
Now today I'm a woman on my own
Whoa whoa I can't stand this living all alone
Whoa whoa I can't stand this living all alone
It feels good to have somebody hold you tight
It feels good to have somebody love you right
Who will end all my long and lonely nights?

Whitney isn’t “good” she is GREAT… Phyllis is boring that’s why she had hardly any success in sales and songs. She has passion but no vocal presence. Whitney tells a story when she sings and never does the same version twice. That’s a true artist there. Phyllis was a emotionally filled singer with lack of vocal clarity and substance. She is good for one genre and one genre only and that’s Jazz. Whitney could do it all

Phyllis Hyman! There is only 1 Phyllis Hyman! No one in my personal opinion could ever compare to her singing ability, her beauty, her display of fabulous outfits she wears, and I could never leave this part out, my girl Phyllis, I have never seen anyone who could wear hats the way this lady does. She will always be #1 in my book, always. Her voice is just so soothing and so hypnotizng, in a very good and special way. After anyone listens to her the very first time, hey you are automatically hooked to this beautiful and talented woman. Phyllis, I really do miss you so very much and I really wish you were still around today. There was one artist, but I shall not call the name, that stole one of your poses off of one of your album covers, but it didn't work though, they did not have the effect, charisma charm, beauty, or grace that you have. All your fans miss you very dearly. You may not physically be here with us, but in my heart and in my mind, your beauty, your voice, your charm, and those beautiful eyes, I shall never forget. How could an absolutely beautiful talented artist like Phyllis Hyman be gone nearly 26 years .
We where so lucky to have sophisticated artists like Jean Carne , Angela Bofill, Anita Baker etc.
And in 1995 this wonderful women felt the need to take her own life.
When you watch this mesmerising performance you can see the pain and unhappiness, you see the facade fall, that whistle along made the hairs on my back rise , she was a one of a kind , depression is a deeply destructive illness and we was robbed of this talent.
I watch this and feel sad , but I remember her performance in London
and the power and emotional of her voice , it was a privilege to see her…..

I am still listening to this song, January 26, 2020. RAP is NOT music. It is people talking fast almost like poetry. Music is someone that can sing and sound good. I am a 1955 baby and growing up in the 60's & 70's, I listened to artists that could sing like the Delfonics, Moments, Black Ivory, Blue Magic, Spinners, Temptations, the Supremes, Jackson 5, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, War, Minnie Ripperton, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Diana Ross, DIONNE WARWICK, NATALIE COLE, Roberta Flack, Phyllis Hyman, Donny Hathaway, The Chi-Lites, The O'Jays, The Miracles, The Stylistics, The Dramatics, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Heatwave, Luther Vandross, Melba Moore, Martha & the Vandellas, and Ray, Goodman, & Brown. These are just a few great black artists that truly can sing. RAP should NOT be included at the Grammy's. They should have a special awards show for RAP artists. As I write this, I am listening to Phyllis Hyman. This woman was underrated. RIP Ms. Hyman. Listen to this woman's voice on live television. What a voice!

She was giving us a message, in this song.Ms.Hyman is totally engrossed in this song, and the whistling added even more dynamics, to her performance!! Art imitating life....a prime example( just my humble opinion) Such a God- gifted vocalist, gone but truly not forgotten.Ms.Hyman and Brother Preston on the organ, what a combination....2 Legends, what a stellar performance✨✨✨✨

I love you always. You will never be matched in beauty or song. I know heaven is gonna be jumpin with beautiful music.

As a kid I never really understood the message that was in her songs, but I always felt as though there was something behind what she was conveying in the words. Now I fully can grasp what she was feeling and what she was saying. Legendary and an Unmistakable Talent that was raw and very real.

Love me , some Phyllis Hyman, can't put Whitney Down at all, they both were my girls. Wonderful talent, both are so beautiful, and had the ability to make you feel, what their singing. Everybody don't sing like that. RIP Phyllis, miss, you and Whitney , tremendously. That was one of my favorites, living all alone. I live alone to, can be a lonely world, if you entertain the loneliness, Gotta stay busy on positive things, in order not to get depressed. We love you lady, wish you could come back to us, but God will take care of you.
