Thanks for the video. Your good humored approach to the dice roles and gameplay was fun to watch. This video was the first playthrough I ever watched and it was extremely helpful. You explained the rules well so I was able to jump in and play after watching. Please continue to make these videos because they are awesome.
I had this game ages ago, I remember it being a lot of fun. It had some Talisman flavor to it but did not have the super long play-time. I was happy to see it got re-released, I might have to look at picking it up again, my first copy got sold along a long time ago with most of my collection when I was having tough financial times.
I have this and one expansion. I played a solo game once and liked it. Ended up selling off my Talisman 4th ed. Liked the movement better than Talisman. Still no face to face games.
(Without watching the video) I think this was on my list at some point. I definitely take notice of games with solo options. Unfortunately there’s a glut of [mostly Kickstarter-funded] games with solo bolted on poorly at the last second, but everything deserves as look at least. Referencing Talisman does nothing but make me glad it’s no longer on the list. (can’t even recall why it got dropped!) Maybe it’s just because I never played it way back when and don’t have nostalgia-vision, but I really don’t get the Talisman (and now Relic or whatever the 40k-themed version is called) love all over the place. Am I somehow alone in this?
Nick Carter No you're not alone in it. A lot of the love for Talisman was born out of the nostalgia for second edition. Those of us in the 35-40 range now got our start on hobby gaming with Talisman 2nd Edition. Ultimately, I sold off my 4th edition stuff as (for me at least) the game couldn't really hold up. That being said, I still look for games that can provide that adventure feel.
I can relate somewhat with my nostalgia/first hobby game (I think) for HeroQuest. The board game, not the RPG of latter days. After finding out my original 1990-ish copy had been made off with (or more likely thrown away like so many comics) I ebayed myself a new copy. (though not the multiple expansions I used to have) While it’s not exactly as thrilling as it once was, it’s still a good bit of fun. Maybe updating combat system or adding random dungeon layouts (now I’m wondering where I can find rules/tools for just this!) would bring it some new life. Or respawning enemies, since the heroes can game the hell out of limited monster supplies of the bad guys. Eh. Least it’s not glorified roll and move round the track.
It's great to see someone finally giving this a new playthrough! I've had the latest Z-Man version (plus the Dragon Realm exp.) sitting on my table since last week, waiting to be played again. I seem to recall starting off with two available spells/skills in each guild, from setup, but perhaps I'm remembering something wrong or there is a difference in the setup rules between versions. Previously only played a single solo game with 2 characters but had a blast. Looking forward to playing the solitaire rules that came in the Dragon expansion. Although the next game will probably be multi-player. As others have mentioned, it's similar to Talisman but I think Prophecy does some things better. The movement, obviously. The Spells/Skills and preferred guilds of the characters are also wonderful since they provide more customization flexibility as opposed to just having the same 'ole single special ability for each character every game. I'm all about Varied Player Powers in these games, with extra emphasis on the "varied" part. I am surprised Prophecy hasn't received more popularity, especially compared to Talisman since it's similar. Anyone want to speculate as to why?
JoystickzWePlay Always nice to have an official solitaire rule set. :-) I was wrong about starting with two ability cards on each guild at start. I must've drawn a couple ability placement Chance cards in the first couple rounds. Looking forward to more.
Have the original and played it once.....however, most of the rules went over my head as you played !!!! Must get the game out and refresh the little grey cells.
One of my all-time favourite. Have fun, I know I will have some watching you play.
Hybban Thanks - I certainly will! This first round already caught my very attention :)

Thanks so much! Wow - that's really an old video but the game is still in my collection :)

Clinton Coddington Incredible that we actually can sell board games to help us over tough times :-) Even if it hurts... a lot...

NefariousKoel I was not aware of the solo rules! Thanks for the hint and I guess I have to invest a little bit more :-)

Seems a lot like Talisman?
Absolutely - there are definitely some similarities but of course you can still see Vlaada shine through :D
