So tired of these bait and switches. Show us the game we really want reviewed, then switch it with a gag to some fun family game. We came for Beige Traders.
I wanted to know about Beige Traders! If it's Fun Month, then you need to bring us the beige! A game about people trading in purest beige can hardly get better for theme. If you must get side-tracked into talking about a game about doing the washing-up, and other such mundanities, then surely you could at least promise us to get back to the beige, with a link to what most people are going to want: the excitement, the familiarity, and the sheer potential of beige.
And apparently they are making a sequel dealing with treating patients in an ER. Just for when you weren't satisfied with just burning food if you fail, now patients can die!
I just want to acknowledge that the tax form at the start with the Beige Traders bit has this line in it: “Don’t make us get out the special custard cannon.” That is all. I rest my case.
There is a sequel to Kitchen Rush called Rush M.D., which is themed around a hospital and adds dexterity minigames! It is a little lighter than Kitchen Rush and fixes many of the problems with it.
FYI US people, this is the revised edition which, according to what I've found, isn't out until Q2. It's easy to identify the revised edition by this cover
This game gets to the table more often than Space Alert, and we love Space Alert. I think it's because it's a little easier to understand your task, and the difficulty ramps up in hilarious ways. New aliens are great, but "health inspector is coming, wash the damn dishes" is just funnier. Also, laying off employees is a moment nobody should miss. Also: Great and enjoyable review, thanks!
Hi, Tom. Thanks for coming in. We wanted to go over the viewer feedback from this episode. It's really very positive, from a certain perspective. It says here *shuffles papers* that we had a 97% rewind rate for the end segment with the kitten, which indicates our viewers want to see more of that in future videos. Plus, the game analysis received the most significant "useful" rating of anything you've done so far. What? Oh, no, not _your_ analysis, but Punky Brewster's analysis. Young Brewster, yeah, that's what we meant. So we'll be replacing you with a kitten and a kid going forward, but at least your beard got uniform approval in the grooming demographic. Cheers! (All kidding aside, fun vid, thanks Tom!)
This is the type of unique gimmick based game my family is willing to play. Thanks for showing it off, Tom, I just purchased and look forward to sharing with the fam
I both miss and don't miss working in a kitchen. Maybe it's enough to leave me fulfilled, or maybe it'll be enough to give me PTSD. Just need the ticket printer going in the background.
Amazing review as always! I know this is blasphemy but if this sounds like your kind of thing and you’re into video games, I would strongly recommend Overcooked & Overcooked 2. It’s literally this game but like on one of those screen things and you can play online during covid and (I think) they’re both on Xbox Game Pass
I'll add that Overcooked is one of the very few games with combo co-op, so two people on one console can play with two people on another console. It should be industry standard, but that extra flexibility makes it a lot easier to play with more people
1. it's interesting seeing games that the podcast talked about years ago getting returned to now 2. i had a small heart attack when i thought the cat was being allowed to eat one of the wooden pieces
As someone who's been cooking professionally for 20 years, I think this game looks like a romp, and a reasonably close facsimile to the hectic nature of the restaurant business. Definitely gonna check it out.
We've already had one great new addition to SUSD in the past two years Tom, and now we're getting another one with Small Brewster? Ambassador, you're really spoiling us!
I don't know where you found Tom back in the day but I think you might have to put him back. I'm not sure the fabric of the universe can maintain its integrity with videos like this coming out!
Great video Tom as usual! Just as a history lesson, this is a second edition. The first edition is only the version if the game that is at the end of the campaign (introduced in this version to be more family-friendly) and I've played it a lot, it definitely has longevity and there is a better, more cohesive rule book out there if you want to seek it out from BGG. There's also an expansion for that, so there's even more variety to come!
I've thought about making my own board game. I've even figured out essentially how I'd like it to work. A little concerned about getting the number of locations right, though, and I'm not sure how I'm going to actually make the thing. Probably everyone'd hate it, anyway
So Quinns has his box. Tom now has his cupboar-err, "Fun Zone". What does Matt have? I also hope Fun Month lasts twice as long as Chess Month. That's twice as many months!
If you're looking for similarly themed games that also have a real time mechanic, Rival Restaurants is a good option. It's become one of my favorite board games in my collection
Man, I really used to hate Tom, mainly because I applied for the internship as well and so pretty much hated everyone who got it since I didn't. But Tom is sooooo funny and clever with his reviews, his humour never distracts from the game, and is just my kind of humour. An amazing hire, and another great review. If Tom is reading this, he should be incredibly proud of the reviewer he has become. Top work.
Tom’s powers grow exponentially. Within two more reviews he will have exploded into an organic mass and then collapsed into a new universe like in Akira.
Second edition didnt really do this gem of a game justice. The first edition had more content along with the Piece of Cake expansion (desserts!), different and more colourful art and a campaign with plenty of challenges.
I love to play this game with my teenager Kids and my boardgame group as well. The old Artipia version has a much cleaner rulebook. Maybe you find it online.
I think the US buy link is for a different version of the game. The one shown in the video seems to be the revised edition which is also linked in the UK/AU link and has different mechanics then the older one
Woooooo!!!!! Excellent! Super pleased having a cameo of a young woman, she did great! I hope for more cameos from younger people, older people, girls, boys, women, grandparents. :) Of the whole review was great - I wondered if it would be too easy with just 2 players but with the building stretching requirements I can see it being good :)
I will sit patiently for the Beige Traders review.

Agreed. Beige Traders looks lit.

Ah, so it’s Overcooked, the board game!

Ha! My comment earlier in the thread was Lindybeige: The Boardgame
What about a game about the Lindyhop? Or Tango. Or Lindy-tango?
Well isn't this my favourite comment section crossover ever!
Bit late to the party but, I read this in your voice and heard it so clearly. Was rather startling actually.
I want a lindybeige/shut up and sit down crossover episode
Tom continues to deliver excellent work - shame he got so BADLY upstaged by Small Brewster this time round!
Not to mention Cat Brewster making a sneaky but impactful contribution towards the end.
"Fun Month" starting off with....

Hm. You want to trade two off-white cubes for your beige cube?
"Did the designer of Biege Traders tweet something racist again?"
"But are you real?" That got me. Thank you Tom for adding such delightful comedy and occasionally surreal skits to your reviews :)

Would be worth a re-upload just to have Matt faintly shouting that in the background.

this whole review had me screaming at the tv "PLAY RIVAL RESTAURANTS!"
Delightfully, hilariously manic and just the right soupcon of self-awareness. Cackled out loud multiple times alone in my home office. Bravo!
"Welcome to 2026, where everything is still the same!"

It's basically just Overcooked in physical form. I was missing that reference.
"If this sounds like something you'll enjoy, you will probably enjoy it" - absolute gold!
