I bought this game and at the higher levels, the door won't open the first time, only after a few tries. And then it will close almost immediately again. So for the Suicide Level, you needed to slowly inch your plane into the right position, just in front of the door. Then tap the F7 key frantically and full thrust to get out.
This takes me back - when I was in junior high school, I was in the orchestra, and I pulled part of the code out of this game (a surprising amount of it was written in BASIC) for the cannon fire sound effect, and we used that in a performance of an arrangement of the ending for the 1812 overture (the orchestra director wanted to use starter pistols in large garbage drums, but the school administration wouldn't let him - and he deemed the SFX "close enough" to what he wanted). The band director sat with a C64 and hit the space bar on cue for the cannon sound effect, which was run through the gymnasium PA system.
One of my C64 favorites. I loved the weird game mechanic progression, from Zaxxon to quasi-3D shooter to Discs of Tron. The best moment in the game for me was in the 3D shooter part, when you'd shoot one of the towers off of the defense ministry and then time it so that it'd take out that tank.
The game is very similar (technically) to Beach-Head, proofing that its creators were the same at Access Software. I liked both games, but i think Raid Over Moscow is much harder. During the 80's it was blacklisted in some countries beyond the iron curtain, like in Hungary, but we didn't care and played with it a lot. :)
Many games containing explicit violence or references to war, especially Third World War, were outright banned in West Germany. That's the part of Germany that was in NATO, so not beyond the Iron Curtain.
I actually really liked this game and the 3D elements. Totally forgot about it so thanks for sharing. It was challenging at the beginning and yes getting out of the hanger was a puzzle at first. Everytime you failed you had to wait for the pilot to walk all the way to his ship. 😂😭
Bruce Carver started the company in basement with $25,000 capital rise. He went from rags to riches. Access Software -- I remember link golf game. Microsoft brought Access unknown amount -- 900 million dollars - billion dollars. He was like Larry Ellison of Video Game. He brought cars, house, etc. Sadly, he passed away with cancer on December 28, 2005.
Really cool game. 4:40, That's kind of a Tron type game. I like how you can see where you're aiming on the back wall. That was smart for them to program that into the game.
Awesome video, thank you! I cannot recall if I ever finished, but this all looks familiar. This was a game where the battle was with the controls more than the enemy, but those bullets come at you fast outside of the defense building! A mix of Zaxxon, Contra, and Tron, these multi-stage games were highly addictive!
One of the few video games that has caused a political crisis. In 1980s Finland still living in the shadow of the Soviet Union a video game depicting an attack on Moscow was sufficiently controversial for that.
what is even more funny is that there are still these braindead people in the west who think they can just keep pouring in money and material and Ukraine will win. What a bunch of jokers. Meanwhile these jokers including the clown Volodymyr have sent to their death roughly 500k people. Louis Armstrong: What a wonderful world, o yeah.... And then he put on his big fake smile.
Finland had one heck of a delicate balancing act to pull off during the Cold War, what with the Soviet giant breathing down its neck for decades. Look at how things have changed now.
All that was missing from the intro was Sean Connery giving the world’s best Scottish but Russian motivational speech on the bridge of a sub. Wiled away many a ‘sick’ day from school on my Atari with this, Bruce Lee, Koronis Rift and Star Raiders. Every once in a great while I decide that adulting is some kinda bullshit and call in sick and do the same thing. Still fun, all these years later.
I remember playing this as a kid and figuring out that you can just loiter around during the space segment and watch the cities get nuked one after the other.
The story was that the robots were heavily armored on the front side. The only chance to destroy them from their back. But you cannot attack them from the back personally, because there is an unpassable trench between you and the robot.
Oh I hated this game, in the beginning : I couldn't leave the hangar... yeah.. i was really bad... But it was a really good game : very different actions !!
Every pirate had this game and half of them didn't know how to get out of the hangar. :)
So true! ;p

Yep, I was 10 when I got the game and it took me a good six months before I figured out how to even get out of the hanger.

Wow! That'a a very funny Raid Over Moscow story... Thanks for sharing and for watching! ;p
That was a fun game!! Remember these, Raid on Bungeling Bay, Racing Destruction Set, Blue Max and Auto Duel! Those were the days!!
Blue Max! a fav right there. Don't forget Gunship, Hellcat Ace, Summer Games, Winter Games, World Games, so much fun.
Beach head was easier rom very hard

Zaxxon!... That's exactly what came to mind.
Classic game. Brilliant computer.
Thanks for the memory of this game. Right up there with Beachhead.
Still can hear the screams😂

I thought I was getting a Beach Head vibe from it!
Technically impressive - we loved it back then.
Ho yeah! ;p
This game was my first back then along with ghostbusters Xmas 83 or 84 and i loved it!!..
Wow, truly the Commodore was/is amazing
Thx for sharing. I loved this game. It had this special atmosphere that is hard to describe today.
Thanks for watching! ;p
Made durig the Cold War, then felt a bit outdated after 'Perestroika', and now, in 2024, feels strangely...satisfying!
😆 Thanks for watching! ;p
Well it was 1984 and given the Cold War rhetoric it’s not surprising that it made the Soviets the…well you know what Reagan called it.
Damn I absolutely loved this game as a kid. Amazing.
One of my best c64 game, ever! ;p
@@Alex-Retro Right up there with Beach Head and Chuckie Egg ;)
@@TonyTurbo78 Chuckie Egg? Hmmm... interesting! ;p
Many thanks for uploading! This game was officially banned in Germany at the time. As pupils, we secretly swapped the game at school.

Played this as a child in the 80s without having the slightest idea what it was about.
😄😅
This took me back, Raid over Moscow always reminded me of a flying version of Beach Head.
so true... ;p
Wow, one of the two games my C64 came with back in 1985!
😁
Bought after seeing this game on Finnish news back in 1984. Still got the tape.
Great game i like to play it back in the days. Hangar was problematic to get out but when you learn how to do it its easy.
I remember playing this game on the Apple //e, this game was dope!
Great game, and I never managed to do the stage shooting the building! Great to see it through to the end!
Lol.... Loved that game about 35 years or so ago.
Was just feeling to play it.
Ty for that little journey Back.
Greetz from GER❤️
Always a pleasure! ;p
I had this game on Atari800 and it's surprising, after all these years how much complex and great this game is.
Great game, hard game, skilled play. Nice work, well done.
Retro game playing when I was 8 years old with my friends
Loved this game as a kid, never completed the disk section though!
played this in Hungary, end of eighties, under soviet occupation.... :)
rooting for Ukraine + donating to their armed forces regularly!
Thank you very much from Ukraine!
Oh my goodness, I can picture my teenage self sitting in the basement playing this for hours... :)

Not only that, they also 'sold' it to you as being your high tech portable laser guidance or something.

Thanks for watching! ;p
Love this and all the memories it brings back of my C64 and Amiga units 😊 Thanks

I used to play this on my Atari 800, loved it.
Loved this game another memory recovered I had forgotten title.
this game needs a modern remaster
Thanks for watching!
I’m not sure how a remaster of RoM would please both classic fans and new gamers… but the idea does seem compelling.
Your mum needs a remaster

Used to have this on the speccy in glorious ‘4 colour-o-vision’. Used to think this game was so hard. I think I only completely it twice.
WOW I remember this, my friend loaned me his pirated copy...I mean I bought it at a shopping mall.
😂😂
Wow!! Thanx for sharing and bringing back some great gaming memories! Cheers!
That's the goal of the channel! Cheers! ;p
What everyone seems to forget, this was awesome in 2player. Player2 would automatically be the defender.
I don't recall Raid Over Moscow having a two player mode. Don't you mean Beach Head 2?
@AudieHolland ah yeah you're so right. My mistake.
@@Kaido_928 No problem 🙂

A great one for the C64, along with … Beach Head!
This game was so "atmospheric", I felt like really entering into a spy movie!
After many decades this game is relevant once again 😁
I recently was trying to play mine on Atari 800 XE, it was so hard I had to hack it 🤪
Used to love this game.
Blue max was the greatest game ever
This was an awesome game, many hours spent frustrated then triumphant. Ah! The cold war
Loved this game
Loved this game, but getting out of the hangar was a huge PITA!!!
😄😄 Haaaa The famous "Hangar Mystery"! ;p
this actually very creative design
Oh weh! Wie viele Stunden habe ich damit verbracht! Ein tolles Spiel!!!

one of the most difficult games ever!!!

Ich habe es geliebt!😊😊😊
I loved this game :)
I've recently collected over 200 C64 disks and I reckon Raid over Moscow is on about 6 of them. Same for every other game I can think of
I get Zaxxon and Beach Head II vibes.
I bet that game wouldn't be allowed to be made these days 😮 I hope Tettris don't get banned
😄
Full in Time, a evergreen😂
It was a lot harder than the video makes it appear. The jets were tough to get out of the hangar!
It's called "experience"... LOL!
LOved that you got Beach Head ?
I played this on the bbc took me years to work out how to leave the hanger
😄

I have played this game on the Atari 130XE. I have to say, the Commodore version looks better with superior graphics.
Fede: I do not understand why you have to launch disks ?!? what does it means?!? Disk are not used in modern war, we have rifles! T.Y.
