I like how this song mirrors both heaviness and lightness in many ways. Light, airy guitar strings undertoned with depth of emotion in Thom's light voice and words. I think it's one of the most intimately personal songs on the album, I feel like I need to listen to it cautiously, respectfully, as if not to overstep a boundary of sort. It just blows me away. Radiohead blows me away.
This song is about having eyes closed, arms up and out swaying with the head slowly..... and the person being lost in the thought of someone he loves and now this trance moving of his body is like a devotion to his beloved,he doesnt care about the world anymore,he won't turn around,he won't stop or all of this will go in waste,he is just lost and he wants to be so.. GENIUS 🙌
this is the best version, by the expression of emotion.from the last, "a moon shaped pool" he was wary busy to make a falsetto in "it is no one business.."
the best song about Thom being bipolar and him knowing his illness and hypermania threatens to destroy his relationship to his wife. But knows he needs to keep pushing or a worse fate awaits him in that he will crash! Beautiful. Haunting. Heart felt...perfect Genius about the trials of being in love with an unbearable illness and the impact it has on his now ex wife. Bares his soul bare...Genius! please you tubers post your interpretations!
how can you talk about an ex wife ? as great this song is i would never stick my nose in someones business, this song is more than an "ex wife feeling" . Respect this Baby called friendship or whatever it is called
Cos Larry. It is well documented that lots on the new album is about the breakup of his relationship with his wx wife Rachel. He has said so himself. It's not sticking my nose in. Thom Yorke decided to create beautiful insightful music out of his pain # True Love Waits
He recognizes the imperfection of his life in this world, facing this, he takes refuge in love, he uses it as a weapon of self defense against the present, against his existential anguish. He interprets love as a dance, in which he dances intensely, blindly, deaf and dumb, being madly in love with her, trying to ignore reality outside of it. Therefore, he clings to this love, he will give everything of himself, because he knows that when that relationship is broken, he will be helpless in a reality much more difficult than the initial, falling down a mine.
Don't get too heavy... Though don't be too light either, it can make it seem you're not interested. You have to be careful with another's feelings and your own... You receive a signal and give one back and be chill, be genuine, be yourself even if your reaction isn't going to impress, it doesn't matter... Cause if it doesn't work out, you'll meet someone else, someone better. Don't ever be stuck, not on a person as well. Keep yourself going, keep it moving, work on it. If you help yourself, you'll be able to support the ones you love. Love is not a cure or the answer, love is not going to fix all of your problems, you have to do that yourself. This counts for everyone. Make yourself strong for your loved ones, your crush or whoever comes next. Love is not simply just love, it is caring for someone, for the person they are, not for what they have to offer. And most importantly, make yourself strong, for you... Cause how can someone as beautiful as you are, not love yourself?
Hey! I'm pretty sure the song is called "Present Tense" (drop "The"), right? The real lyrics (verbatim) on the studio recording are: This dance This dance Is like a weapon Is like a weapon Of self defense Of self defense Against the present Against the present The present tense I won't get heavy Don't get heavy Keep it light and Keep it moving I am doing No harm As my world Comes crashing down I'll be dancing Freaking out Deaf, dumb, and blind In you I'm lost In you I'm lost I won't turn around at the penny drop Won't stop now I won't slack off Or all this love Will be in vain I stop from falling Down a mine It's no one's business but mine Or all this love Has been in vain In you I'm lost In you I'm lost In you I'm lost In you I'm lost
+butterflycaught900 That's what I thought at first, too. Someone posted a scanned copy of some shorthand version of the song with chords that they supposedly found at the show and it said "This dance" but for all I know, it was a fan's. "This dance" makes the most sense, but I definitely hear "Distance" too.
+butterflycaught900 What I mean is - I can hear "Distance", but "This dance" makes the most sense in relation to the rest of the lyrics. "As my world comes crashing down, I'll be dancing..."
I think this the best version of the song. The album version is way too overloaded. Also the way he sings "no one's buisness but mine" is outstandig to me. (Not so on the studioversion)

I had to choose a song for an orchestra essay, and out of the ones he provided, I did this one. Honestly, thank you for making a lyric video for this.
Si tú has hecho ese video, te amo bro, con todo mi corazón. Gracias.
Amazing job on the audio cleaning and the lyrics!
That's a live performance capture after my own heart.
this is the best version, by the expression of emotion.from the last, "a moon shaped pool" he was wary busy to make a falsetto in "it is no one business.."
I would put this song near the top of all-time great Radiohead tracks. It is amazing!
I don't really like the album version. I prefer the basement version or even this.
his voice is so powerful

Hey! I'm pretty sure the song is called "Present Tense" (drop "The"), right? The real lyrics (verbatim) on the studio recording are:
This dance
This dance
Is like a weapon
Is like a weapon
Of self defense
Of self defense
Against the present
Against the present
The present tense
I won't get heavy
Don't get heavy
Keep it light and
Keep it moving
I am doing
No harm
As my world
Comes crashing down
I'll be dancing
Freaking out
Deaf, dumb, and blind
In you I'm lost
In you I'm lost
I won't turn around at the penny drop
Won't stop now
I won't slack off
Or all this love
Will be in vain
I stop from falling
Down a mine
It's no one's business but mine
Or all this love
Has been in vain
In you I'm lost
In you I'm lost
In you I'm lost
In you I'm lost
It's "distance" at the start. Not "this dance"
+butterflycaught900 That's what I thought at first, too. +butterflycaught900 But if you listen very very closely, you'll hear the "th" sound at the beginning, as opposed to a hard "d".
KTnarnia Maybe the best song on the album. Very In Rainbowsy
I think this the best version of the song. The album version is way too overloaded. Also the way he sings "no one's buisness but mine" is outstandig to me. (Not so on the studioversion)
the live version is fine too!
CriticalCritic I agree they shoulda kept it light. they kept it movin at least but they shoulda kept it lighter
**Exit music flashbacks are intensifying.**
I'm sure is distance
I LOVE YOUR VOICE BECOUSE IT'S GREAT♥..
The correction is based on the lyrics from the cd artwork?
3:19
Mon vrai amour! Xo
Freaking out Jesus Allison no goodbye cold wait
...
this from their last Album?
Yes their latest one - a moon shaped pool.
sen allahın bir lütfusun
isn't it 'distance' and not this dance?
I was thinking exactly the same..been listening to this tune last few days assuming it's distance...referring to relationships
Gary Run distance makes more sense than this dance for me
+engine It is. I hear the "t".
amazing song all the same
thank u for your replies
en toi je suis perdu........
this dande, not distance
I like "This dance" better
