I can imagine those would either be a godsend, or a nightmare with super-bright LED bulbs (nightmare for anyone in front of you).
Is a common courtesy you should only use that when nobody is around and it is real dark
@@michaelpressman7203 he is saying those stupid amazon LEDs blind everyone, even just low beam. Ray belongs in a ditch upside down for being scum.
"Do Not Watch." What's the first thing I do? Watch
We were "hook, line and sinkered" 😅😂
UA-cam gravity
Maybe the camera is distorting the distance your lights are lighting up, or maybe it's just a good camera that picks up the lighting well, but if it's been a long time since you've checked your headlight adjustment, maaaaaaaaaybe something to do soon? Cause my car doesn't light up the road that well that far and I've got mine properly adjusted with new xenons.
Yay extra RAY!!!
I know the electrical circuits will carry the current no problem. What about the extra heat generated by 2 bulbs in the headlamp being on at the same time. I have seen melted handlamps from the heat due to to hot a bulb?
DOOR!!!! 😮!
Ray, I have driven quite often in fog and would NOT use high beam as the fog will reflect the bright high beam light straight back into your eyes. Be careful.
In this configuration he will have only low beam and the fog lights until he switches on the high beams, only then will all the lights be on..during fog resist using the high beams for the reason you stated.
@@gsettlemyre Thank you for that clarification.
Ray, I also have that same module on my ‘07 dirtymax. I found that several months after the install, it started acting a bit squirrelly, like the low beams wouldn’t stay on when I turned on the high beams. I found a small amount of corrosion on the legs of the 3 light relays was preventing the module from working correctly. The cure was to pull the relays back out and coat the legs with dielectric grease and plug them back in. Every once in a while it will need that treatment again, but the time involved is a couple years now instead of 5 or 6 months.
Ray there is a legal reason that they do that. Be careful because it can lead to a ticket for excessive/improper lighting. The same with folks wanting to run blue or red accent lights on the front of a vehicle is illegal. (Even when the package says legal in all states). Yes its legal to own but illegal to use when on the roadway. Cool little device there Ray. Stay safe my friend.
There are some states that only allow for only 4 lights to be on. Because of these rare states, all states get this "feature". Ever since GM cars started getting built in Canada, we started getting an influx of cars with daytime running lights. It's cheaper to just make one version of something I guess. I always disable them in my cars. DRL's aren't mandatory in the USA. 😬
Putting LEDs into your lamps made for the incandescents/halogens is also illegal
Having worked on some automotive lighting back in the day, I can confirm that the color of lights, location, and operation on a vehicle is very restricted.
@@watchingdanny lol Canada had nothing to do with daytime running lights. Was a requirement for decades prior for commercial vehicles and was mandated by the ntsa in the early 2000s for new passenger vehicles. Way to show you are a racist though
Ray is in rural Florida though, which unless the Internet has been lying to me is basically a lawless libertarian anarchy. 🤪
You might find that in most states, it is not legal to have all the lights on at the same time. Take, for example, Florida statutes 316.233 (2) which limits the use of fog lamps on with the lower headlamps only.
You must be fun at parties
Mehh
Yeah what Zach said
Same in the UK for very good reasons. For those saying...meh....and party pooper just grow up and think why the law is like that. I know but you idiots certainly don't.
@@Zach-k2p Drunks are funny at parties.....until they get their car keys out. You one of those too?
Loved the addition of the lightsaber noise lol. I always assumed that that the reason fog lights went off when you turn your brights on is because driving with high beams on in the fog makes it actually harder to see. I assume they figured you wouldn't need them simultaneously.
It’s fit extra light on clear nights. I wouldn’t use the high brand during fog
These are driving lights though, not fog!
Your assumption is correct, but it is also due to gov't regulations that the hi beams go out when the fogs come on.
The way I understand it, you’re allowed by government regulations to have 4 lights on at the same time, but brights count as 4. So low beam + fog/driving is 4. Highbeam plus fog is 6. Highbeam plus low and fog = 8. It’s probably more sophisticated than that now, but that’s what I recall from a long time ago. I don’t have fogs, but my highs and lows come on simultaneously when the highs are activated, so it’s “full send”. The brights aren’t very bright by themselves (had both lows blow within 5 minutes of each other one night) , so maybe it’s total wattage/lumen output. I’ve hated the dim headlights ever since I bought the car. Both highs and lows are bright LED replacements now and it’s still not as bright as the Camry is on low beam only.
Just what other motorists want to see coming towards them in the dark.
Ha. You guys need a hardware module? Ford people can turn on Bambi mode with a configuration change via FORScan.
On my DODGE I have a module that turns on low beams, fog lights, and high beams when high beams are selected. Lights up the road like a freight train. Real nice on narrow tree filled back roads: Especially during rut.
Where did you find this module? I have a GMC Safari and I can't find a module for it
I'm sorry, am I missing something? What's the point! Surely the high beams " overshadows" the other lights anyway. 🤔
Fog lights light closer and wider making ditches more visible.
There is a good reason for this. You should only use fog lights when there is fog! High beams will bounce back off the fog impairing your vision further. For this reason i don't see the point of this mod.
IMO of course. Love all the vids though.
It’s not for fog. It’s for clear nighttime driving. Fog lights give off a close wide light that helps illuminate ditches.
And everyone drives full-time with all lights on blinding oncoming traffic. I hate those things.
Fog lights are only useful if you turn off the rest of the lights, being low is what makes them work. What you're doing is just adding a rude light 🤔
Back when I owned my 05 Colorado, I found instructions on how to use jumper wires. They were rather crude and I was already proficient at wiring, so I just rewired the whole thing! By the way, I also proved you can squeeze two batteries, a battery isolator for charging, and a power inverter under the hood! Each battery had a voltage gauge, so you could actively see how each battery was charging.
I did a mod with my 2004 2500 that just used three diodes from Radio Shack. Was a few bucks, and just jumped the fuses. Was great for driving northern Canada highways
I did the same thing, but like you said, with diodes on the relays and they are still there today and I did that back in 2005
Been running 8hi forever now. Just make sure you turn them bad boys off before traffic is coming your way! I did it old school with diodes.
Check to see if legal in your state. Illegal to run high beams and auxiliary lights in VA.
Tomorrow, on Triple R…Ray buys a fire extinguisher!
There is a scientific reason for the high beams to be turned off in fog. The high beams reflect off fog blinding you with the reflection. Therefore you want only low pointing lights in fog in order to see.
Spot on pal but hey some of these people know better.....they think!
People aren’t doing this mod for foggy conditions. They’re doing it for extra light during nighttime driving. Fog lights give off a wider closer light then either the low beams or high beams giving you better field of vision in the ditches.
really cool..... Glad I caught this video... Regards...
Next Video: Replacing the headlight units as they melted due to the extra heat lol.
You should have added a disclaimer to check you states DMV code about this because in a lot of states it is illegal for all the lights to be on at the same time. This is do you don’t blind the driver coming towards you and them possibly swerving into your lane and hitting you head on. I also think that there is federal regulations about this too, but correct me if I am wrong.
You shouldn't be running your brights with oncoming cars anyway.
That defeats the purpose of your fog lamps????
I do not know the laws in every state. In Oregon, this would be illegal. No more than 4 forward facing beams permitted at same time. Is why factory fog lights cancelled on highbeam.
Yeah, it's DOT laws... plus, there is no advantage to having all lights run. YTers generally don't care about no stinkin' laws. Additionally, amber fogs are better... I've compared both as I have both options.
Yes also in Wisconsin but I wouldn't worry about it you really have to have let's say a unique cop that would pull you over for something like that
Pennsylvania it is also a ticket. It is called Dual Headlighting.
In the north country (Canada) this also the law. That is why light bars must be covered on the road.
🤣
Is it just Chevy that does that? My lows stay on with high. Fog lights go off though
This works well. I did the same thing to an Avalanche back in 2004 with 3 diodes. I had high, low, fogs, and drls on all at once. It made a big difference.
Big difference? To who? The poor sod in the oncoming vehicle. Fogs are only to be used in conditions of reduced visibility and only in conjunction with low beam otherwise the light reflects back off the fog causing whiteout and multiple accidents. I know....we had numerous multiple fatals during the 60's and 70's. It's a bit of an eye opener when you have to help remove eleven charred bodies burned to death. Don't be silly...this is a ridiculous idea.
Be carefull in some area it's illegal to have high beam + fog light at same time. My magnum and charger does the same they both cut the fog when the high beam is on, unless it's just temporary high beam
Ray, in a setting where the original design basically only allowed you to run either high beams or low beams only, won't running both at the same time generate more heat than the headlight housing and connectors were designed for and consequently risk distorting or melting headlight housing and or connector assemblies? I've seen regular headlights alone generate enough heat to distort the wiring connectors and in a few cases burn the connector.
On all my cars, when I turn on the high-beams, the low-beams stay on too. So the headlight housings will be just fine with this mod.
Yeah I would worry about having the current doubled on the wire, at 12 Volts if each bulb is lets say 55 watts just throwing a number out there, that's about 4.6 Amps each, that will now be 9 Amps. (55 watts divided by 12 Volts).
Housing, maybe, wires/connectors, I doubt it. Each bulb is fed by its own wires and connector. I did 'my version' of this to my truck ages ago - spliced connectors into the wires under the fuse block that allowed me to plug/unplug diodes for low and fogs.... Personally, I'm not wild about the way the relays go through the board without any real solid connection, but we're talking low current and I guess it works.
@@aperson9495 if I understand the system correctly, the board is simply using output power from the high beam to send a trigger back to both the low and fog relays to re-power. This nearly 0 extra load on the high beam circuit. I could be wrong tho, I swing a hammer for a living.
@@PatricksDIY Ray's mod here does nothing bad to the truck. The lights and wires are working exactly the same as many cars... Low and high beams on at the same time. It's only allowing the fogs to also be on. No wires are being over-worked with extra current. All the wires are carrying the same current they're designed to carry.
I put one in my 06 Tahoe about three years ago. Together with all upgraded LED lights, this is nice and BRIGHT. I love it!
Only thing I'd be worried about is the amount of heat inside the lens running both lamps. Especially if you come upon any cold rain during the night.
The lenses are plastic, so rain on hot lenses isn’t an issue. It does accelerate the deterioration of the coating on the lenses and also causes spider web cracks in the plastic after 5 or 6 years use. I’ve had my Fleece all lights on module for over ten years now and I wouldn’t be without it.
A couple of potential problems I see with that board. First the relays are now raised up a bit now, probably 1/16", and that could be enough to allow the relays to pop out of the sockets because of vibrations. Second, the low beam and fog light relay control lines are being fed a voltage now, and whatever control module that drives those relays might eventually have a problem with it, or you may have weird error codes popping up. As an engineer, I will say it is a slick design though.
My thoughts too. I'm guessing the original design was engineered to limit current to all lights on, which could cause some low voltages and/or overheated wires.
I gad a used 52 chevy pickup truck back in 1970 so, I watched. Nice truck. Don't worry, I'm not a terminator.
Yeah that's illegal AF.
Others call that "Bambi" mode
So basically it’s a video for Murica(s) 😂😂😂
PS: I don’t think I have ever seen a cars fog-lights turn off with hi-beam…
That is proper weird…
Been illegal to run both high and low beam headlights simultaneously in the USA since 1967. That's why vehicles manufactured in or after 1967 haven't had the ability to do so.
The sound effects for the lightbar, was bad ass. 👏
Have owned this for last 10 yrs...Bambi mode...works great.2 min installation
Pennsylvania Inspection Stations check for modified electrical systems which allow fog lights to operate with high beams. Illegal, and my car once failed for having an independent foglight switch. Also, many states allow illumination of no more than four (4) headlamp/fog/driving lights in any combination on public roads.. Cool mod, but proceed with caution.
It is legal in Louisiana. We can have up to “4” white headlamps, but none can exceed 300 candlepower (approx. 3770 lumens).
I recall back in drivers ed back in the 70’s, instruction to Not drive faster than your lights illuminate. So, what’s your hurry?
There are enough idiots running around with high beams on blinding oncoming traffic, why do we need to add fog lights to the equation? My favorite one is the knuckleheads that install an LED light bar on the front of their vehicle and blitz oncoming traffic with a blinding unfocused blast of super bright white light. If you run your truck with all lights on,you are being a knucklehead too,Ray. Just sayin' Stupid Idea.
I own 3 dodge pickups and a Kia, watched anyway. Was not disappointed.
Nice. Living in Ohio deer are a real problem. The more light the better at night. More than 40 years of driving only accidents outside of work have been with two deer at night.
Technically illegal in Ohio but if you don't turn on the fog lights, not illegal. And even if you do no cop is going to notice or care. It's not like there are auxiliary lights mounted on the truck that can easily be counted. Cars headlights nowadays have all kinds of fancy configurations with strips of led's and such. The low beams staying on won't be very noticeable.
Cops will care though if you fail to dim your high beams.
Now I have to find the same for my 2007 Silverado"s with the new body style.
I failed. I watched, and I'm not a Chevy/GMC truck person.
However, this is a cheap and very quick way to get a vehicle defect notice, and a fine in the nanny state in which I reside 😂🤣
That would be illegal in my country. Fog lights are only to be used during foggy conditions here and using your highbeams in combination with the fog lights would be fairly counter productive in that situation.
Also fog lights tend to dazzle other drivers in general, which isnt an especially useful feature, especially on trucks....
There are already enough idiots who drive around with their high beams on for no reason…
As mentioned by others, this is not legal in a lot of places. The fog light aspect is a bit pointless, as fog lights and high beams are opposite and neither is useful in conditions that require the other.
However it’s relatively harmless, so if it’s legal I have no issue with it.
Don’t do this on any vehicle that uses compound (dual filament) bulbs. Only on headlights that use separate, single filaments for each function.
The combined heat of the two filaments will be too much and so too will the current of the combined high and low beams on their shared ground pin. Weakest link will fail first, whether it’s the reflector melting, the bulb itself burning out, or the connector burning up. That’s partly why the kit is for such a specific range of vehicles. They all have six separate bulbs. The mod is very easy to do without the kit, on any vehicle, but not advisable for the reasons stated, on some.
I bought this just because I saw your video. I always hated that the fog lights went off on highbeam so this will be great. Thank you.
I have an '05 Envoy and have wanted something like this for a VERY LONG TIME.
You’re a bad boy , Ray. You’ve probably exceeded the candlepower limits for your state. My dad got stopped years ago for the same thing, only his was because of over bright spot lights.
I sang "All night long" by Lionel Richie with matching lyrics "All lights on... all niiight" for most of the video. I'm easily entertained :D
99-02s are easier. The low beams are wired so that switching to high beams kills their ground. So you just clip their ground wire and put them straight to a ground.
I heard of that before but never really looked into it THANKS RAY GOING TO FINALLY GET 1
Are you happy with those Bank gauges?
Absolutely! Two aren’t really needed but I like em. One is to control my Banks Pedal Monster and it displays ambient temp and humidity info. The other gauge is showing my additional sensors for turbo pressures and temps, and of course it shows the rear diff temp
By the comments that this is illegal he just waist money for pcb that connects 2 wiers 😂 🤔 if I didn't miss enething I so 2 resistors and 3 connectors holes. Evre els holes is just for placing the rest stuff back in.
I just used a couple 50v 1amp diode jumping the control side on the relays. Did the light mod on both my cat eye trucks for less than a $1
I'll have to mention this to my uncle. He has an 04 Sierra that I just rebuilt the 4L60E on at parts cost for him. He loves that truck and even joke hugs and pets it sometimes. lol He likes a lot of light and recently put a light bar on the front, so this would be a great little upgrade!
For all of our sakes, I really hope he doesn’t use that light bar on the road. Here in AL, they are pretty well known for driving lifted trucks and the headlights are blinding enough (nobody re-aims after a lift and LED bulb replacement). I literally ran off the road and almost hit a bridge one night because someone didn’t turn off their light bar in a light drizzle. It was bright enough that I could have gotten a tan…and coupled with the glare from the drizzle, I couldn’t see a thing. And if you flash them or cycle your lights, they have a tendency to turn every light they have on you and blind you…just to be jackasses.
I did a fog light anytime mod to my truck. Enables me to run fog lights anytime not just with my low beams. Jumped the fog light relay coil to ground not through the headlight relay!
A pcb with 2 diodes (cost $2) WOW that's hard to figure out NOT!...
EXACTLY!!!!!
Now I know what those weird circuit board looking things are that I've been seeing on Amazon 😂 think I'm gonna have to get one for my 05 yukon
The reason is not all about the lawlawturning.Turning low beams off during high beam use reduces load on yr alternator/"nater".
There is no point to this hack❕
In a Ford, we call that "Bambi mode". Forscan will give you the ability to enable this function.
But the purpose of fog lights is to reduce reflected glare in fog. Using all other white lights as well defeats the purpose, apart from being illegal in many/most jurisdictions.
A number of people are concerned that running the high and low beams and fog lights simultaneously would violate most state's laws of no more than 4 forward facing beams on a vehicle on the highway, this may not be the case with some configurations. You notice the law states "beams " not filaments. With many cars the high and low beams share the same bulb and/or housing. If running the high and low beams simultaneously simply means both filaments in the same bulb are illuminated that is still only one beam (two counting both sides), or if you have two bulbs in the same housing where two bulbs are illuminated but using the same reflector and/or are indistinguishable as being separate beams, it would also count as a single beam.
All the state law enforcers on here … lol. How bout yall do something about the idiots who “squat” the trucks and don’t adjust their head lamps afterwards… or the lifted guy… or the guy pulling the trailer way to heavy for his truck with the headlights in our faces… i see this as an opportunity at a wee bit of payback to all the aforementioned idiots… ty… tirade complete… lol
As a foreign Ford owner I can just stand in the corner and observe. That would be very beneficial in our winter time. It stays dark up here almost all the time.
As a foreign Ford owner I can just stand in the corner and observe. That would be very beneficial in our winter time. It stays dark up here almost all the time.
Now you can totally blind the poor bastard coming in the oposite direction. COOL!
Ray, please tell me you're not running LED and Halogen lights at the same time. That's so tacky.
I wouldn't suggest installing this in VA or alike states... your vehicle will NOT pass state inspection if they see it.
OOPS I watched it not owning a Chevy or GMC and enjoyed it!!! Go figure!!
Now you need to disable the daytime running lights. Because they're pointless.
I have had this on my truck for 5 years. It still works to this day, I did have to take it off once and clean it off because I noticed it was messing with my lights. If you notice all your lights aren’t on just clean it up a little.
Does Fleece make such a modification for the 99-02 Silverados?
I'm sure it's not Ray's deal to be illegal. He has good judgement and if he gets caught he'll man up to it. It's only illegal if you get caught I've been told🤭😁
see my high beam switch going bad hard to switch on off so I just added a toggle switch put in NEW high beam plugs put in resistor to fool computer so it will NOT say hi beams out! so ai can use high any time also! even with out low on
Sort of defeats the design and purpose of fog lights to illuminate from below the fog layer higher mounted lights will just reflect a wall of light back and creat a white out the only thing worse is people that use high mount off-road only light bars on the highway or in fog . Be also aware that using fog lights as auxiliary lights creates a lot of glare of the road for oncoming traffic particularly on wet road. Most fog light installations include additional or brighter rear lamp mode as bright as brake lights ,some passive aggressive’s use it as a anti-tailgating strategy if not so completely retarded to drive with their foot permanently on the brake pedal.
... all the banks mods and no HID conversion on the 1990s lights 😢
I will pass this onto a friend that owns a 2006 . thankyou for this info. wish they had this for 2001 F350 fords
I am curious how long the wiring harness will survive with everything powered at once. It seems GM used undersized wiring on their headlights
My fog lights work of the little wheel on the dash if it is fogey I turne the leveler down so the bem doesn't reflect back at me I have to do this because my car does not come fitted with lower fog lights luckily we don't get meny fogey days in uk not like when I was growing up in 50s and 60s when we all had coal fires and steam engines were travelling along the railways
I am suspicion that with a extra crash bar and all those lights you can now feed the family from road kill ...😜
Shapes and colours Ray. Dave Birmingham England
OK. I didn't watch. Gave you a like for grins...
You can also do this with a lot of Ford vehicles using a laptop running a program called ForScan and a USB to ODB2 adapter. You just have to be careful because it involves a lot of programming codes (which can easily be found online) but programming the wrong thing can really mess up the modules on the vehicle. The "all lights" mode is called "Bambi Mode" in ForScan.
You may not know but all you need is one wire and you can drive with your DRL light and regular lights. Their is a utube video about that. But this is a really nice add on as well
my 04 2500HD has ALL the lights on, DRLs fogs, lows, and highs, just need a couple of diodes with long tails, costs like $3 on Amazon
@@mattcat231 I'm sure they are I'm speaking of the DRLs and headlights. I'm adding big fog lights to my H2.
So... is this why I am blinded, more than in the past, by oncoming traffic?
The high beams alone are the legal amount of "lumins" allowed...so use with care...;o)
That's a stupid module. You don't get anymore effective light by turning all of those on at the same time.
looks like they finally replaced the BILL board out front it used to show a gun show .
When did clear lights become fog lights? Instead of amber lights?
That's definitely then a blind some people.. luminescent big time..
Bambi mode for fords!!! Unlocked with Forscan.
it isnt a problem for the fuses and wiring to have them all on at the same time ?
Also, how is the temperature difference inside the light assembly with both lights on for a long time ?
Thanks if you have time to reply
