- As millions of people gathered for Queen Elizabeth's funeral, 10,000 police officers from across Great Britain filled London streets. Garbage cans and manhole covers were checked for bombs and then sealed shut. Officers were on rooftops, keeping watch with sniper rifles. President Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrived in an armored limo. Biden was the only world leader with a motorcade while other world leaders arrived by bus.

In fact most of it is from the 20th and 21st century. It’s the costumes and the buildings that make it look like “tradition”. Nobody ever threw flowers until 20-odd years ago, Diana’s funeral. Queen Victoria’s funeral happened two days after she died. The general public didn’t file past HER body! The sailors pulling the hearse - was the result of an accident in 1901 when the horses bolted and broke the traces of Victoria’s hearse (edited out of the newsreels) so sailors who were holding ropes to keep the crowds out of the road were drafted in with their ropes to pull from the cathedral to the burial. Deliberately using a gun carriage to transport the coffin is a 1950s innovation for the Queen’s father George’s funeral. Taking Elizabeth’s body to Edinburgh at all, let alone for two different formal parades there, is completely without precedent. As is taking armed soldiers and the “Scottish regalia” into church and having people bow (the Church of Scotland was founded specifically to keep the influence of monarchy away from religion: and the CofS of my youth would have denounced this new ritual as idolatry.) Charles used this as his excuse for going into the Scottish parliament to “receive condolences” - also totally and completely a new thing. The decent and dignified thing to do would have been to invite the Scottish dignitaries to Balmoral to give their condolences, not require public sucking-up in our democratic forum as if it is a feudal court! So is all the “proclamations” palaver, all of these being made into new rituals and new ceremonies.

I was on foot patrol for a few hours the day before the funeral and came across officers from Northern Ireland then minutes later some from Royal Gibraltar Constabulary. They really did want everyone to be represented

I weirdly felt like i lost my grandma all over again, the queen was such a constant in life, i remember being a lil kid sitting on grandmas lap watching her christmas messages, brought back so many fond memories, some great, some painful. almost like one last gift from her magesty.... rest now back in the arms of your beloved phillip!

What's even crazier was the timeline involved, wasn't it, @Liam N.? From the announcement of H.M. The Queen's death it took just over 11 days to organise and actually bury her, didn't it? Doing something as fantastic as that in such a short space of time is just astonishing, isn't it?
Its remarkable how americans see it as much of a miracle as it was, It was substantially lesser risk of anything happening than lets say the US itd be impossible to do something of this magnitude of an event with a president without something happening

In fact it's the word that we used to have to use whenever any of us farted at home as a substitute for that particular word simply so that none of us would be punished by my late mother for saying it. E.g. " ( so-and-so ) just trumped...." rather than saying " ( so-and-so ) just farted....".

Very glad to see how the Queen's funeral went well and of course, all the tributes from all over the world. While I was watching the funeral ceremony on live from my country, Myanmar, I got a very sad feeling. 4 days ago, there was an air strike from military in upper Myanmar. In the places where the artilleries struck, there were nothing but Children. In fact, the place is a village primary school where under 10 years old children were there. 11 children died on the spot and there were cremated in secret. Still now no organization has spoken for that. That got me thinking, lives in my country have been much cheaper and will be.

They give more to the economy in a year than you will ever give to the economy in a lifetime. So if anything, it's your medical care that's a waste of our taxpayer money.

Bet none of these officers were paid any overtime. Plus it caused a nightmare to the public health sector where appointments and surgeries were pushed back in an already overtaxed system where people wait 6 months or more for an appointment. Great job caring about the citizens who live there. On top of all that they have to pay half the expenses of the funeral. Atrocious.

The amount of security was strongly present as it should have been without any hitch, because it was clearly understood this is a circumstance where honor and respect is required from the public, and the incredible people of Great Britain demonstrated this.
