Very true, i stay in Vancouver and rental prices are through the roof so since i don't have a car to be able to stay far from work and commute i opted to just stay in a small studio apartment downtown while i try save up to get a bigger space down the line.
Right now in NZ I can't even afford a small studio apartment. I'm applying for living in old mens basements etc and even then we're in a housing shortage so there's so much competition, I'm loosing to small families who have good prior references to apply for the room. I only have my mum as a reference. Honestly it's depressing. I'm putting soo much work into applying for these, honestly disgusting, mould dark spaces.
So proud of you Joe for being true to yourself and being so open with us especially now that you are in a relationship. I feel like this is the most real I have seen you and probably one of my favorite videos because it just feels so much more like a genuine you.
I’m about to move I a studio I have never lived in one so this is going to be totally different I’m 38 and need to work on my credit. So I got approved for one it’s so small one room and a bathroom. It’s 540 a month the extra 10 for my fur baby all utilities included. I have the jitters so bad I hope I’m making the right choice. Do you have any suggestions.
I seeing living in a studio place is like being in ur own room with a bathroom and kitchen any attached to room but separate by walls in ways. that my future plan compared to now in a 2 bed place and 2 1/2 bath by chance with parent. so future plan is studio apartment cause not real need a mate to share space and less hassles so just gotta pay rent, power and food and any else i need or want any.
@@Purppusay Minimalist possessions, use vertical space and give things homes, take your shoes off to have to clean less, make your bed since it takes up visual space, and set up the space as meets your needs. Good luck!
Since air quality can deteriorate quickly in small places, owning an air purifier to capture VoCs, nasty smells, dust/dander/allergens I would say is a must.
In a studio apartment the less shit you have the better off you are. I just had a tv, ps4, ramen noodles, mattress topper for a bed on the floor, lawn chair, and enough clothes for a week. I also had a handgun and a pet pig that I had to try extremely hard to hide. Almost got caught a few times.
In Fort Lauderdale the studio apartments are 1400 a month. Fucking ridiculous to basically live in a goddamn shoe box. Studio apartments are honestly terrible. It is only one level above homelessness.
If you decide to live in a small apartment, then you absolutely need to make use of the room. Meaning, that u need a bed with drawers, 1-2 small book shells with decent height combined with boxes and ideally a desk with two drawers on each side. This way you got plenty of options to store your clothes etc. This principle goes for every item in your apartment, simply: store options. Do not buy a regular table, go along with a bar table and 2 bar chairs. The smaller the items, the bigger the room.
I know some people LIKE living in a small space, and it’s easier when it’s quite well presented and luxurious - as they usually are on social media and UA-cam, but most people live in studios because they can’t afford anything else, and most studios are horrible. Honestly I feel like studios are often one of the most disgusting manifestations of income inequality in major cities. When you see luxurious one's like this it really obscures that.
@@Lakishia same here, i sometimes try to understand their preference but its just so unnecessary in general. When I moved into my 486 sq ft apartment in 2016 my grandpa saw it and was like..I might need to get one of these! He loves having his own little room in their condo to get away from grandma lmao. It’s funny how we are ok with this space in our 20s, grow to want more as we age, then near the latter half of life become fine with small spaces again. Personally, I’m 31 and still in the studio. Works for me.
This is informative. Thanks! Btw, I recommend Poo-Pourri toilet spray. This will help tremendously to preventing bad smells from guests' smelly dookie. They just need to spray the toilet bowl beforehand.

I am an extravert and like having guests. This video helped me to understand the concept and the pros of the studio living. Thank you so much! Very informative and useful!
My family used to live in a studio home in NY a while back, everything kept getting more expensive and we moved out, I remember it being really crowded and kind of chaotic since everyone is always in one room kind of.
Wait... You got a boyfriend and he moved in?? Dang, y'all must have been going out for awhile before we learned about him! King of privacy cuz we literally had no idea!! Good job! 🤣 Anyway, I could never live in a studio. I like my things. But even in a one bedroom in Brooklyn I'm struggling with space constraints. I'm gonna start going going through my things. If I want to move to Vancouver next year I can't drag alllllll this stuff with me. So yeah starting with a clothing decluttering this week since I won't be leaving the house much so most of these clothes are unnecessary now.
I’m in my 6th year of studio/bachelor living and three shitty things for me were sometimes cooking in the space, even though in my first one my kitchen was kinda closed off you couldn’t see into it from the bed, and (don’t have this problem anymore) but my cat meowing and keeping me awake in the spring and summer, he was 16 years old and passed away now so doesn’t effect me anymore. Thanks for sharing ☺️ Moved in with my partner and it’s ruff in my opinion. And we have complete different work/sleep hours. So we tip toe around each other a bit.
I loved having a studio but it also sucked as well. We also had a giant window wall which was awesome but there was also just yknow one less wall to use cause window
My studio is amazing, driveway , giant yard and garden, quality everything, appliances, toilet, .......and yes , im a virgo , vacuum x 2 a day ! Clean that cat li
Micro condos also don't really emphasize computer space. They often show spaces for people reading books but not using a computer. The latter being a lot more prevalent, especially with covid and more and more people working from home. They might show you a small store-away table to use as a desk but rarely show a dedicated space enough to have more than just a small laptop. Like a real space for desktop computers that will always be present. I also find it's really not ideal for a couple. Those spaces are made for a single person.
I moved out of my studio apartment 2 years ago. The price kept getting higher and higher. I couldn't do it anymore. And i didnt love the kitchen size i love to cook and i had no space. And their was no washer and dryer. I now live with a roomate in a 2 bedroom apartment. I do miss having my own place but im comfortable for now. But our rent is getting higher. Its now at 2400 which is cheap nesr me. But my roomate is a retired older women and i work full time. We only make so much. Were fortunate to live comfortably and have a lillte money left over. But i wanna prepare for the worst. Cause i know soon were not gonna be able to afford a roof over our heads. The economy and society is fucked. And the community is just trying to survive. And we can barely afford the necessities. Your place is beautiful. But also looks like i cant aford it. Im planning an off grid lifestyle. I alresdy started growing my own food to save money and cause i enjoy it. Im scared for our future
Yeah. Im in a jail cell that faces a "courtyard" no one can use right now. The window might as well be a still photo with the exception of the occasional bird. I like to face the street for entertainment and better lighting. My dog likes it too! I get indirect sunlight sort of which keeps it cool in summer so I count my blessings
I definitely want to move in a studio temporarily until I find a partner to move into a 1 bedroom or condo with because I don't want roommates and I'm cheap af/wanting to save up for a car. For the cooking smells I will either: A. Buy a fan and possibly some strong smelling incense or oil defuser (I don't like candles) B. Cook at my parents house 😂 C. Eat raw?? Not too sure about that one 😅
That’s probably the best reason to choose a small studio apartment: getting away from roommates while still trying to save money. The small space frustrations are very real but they are in my opinion worth it to have your own space without roommates. I did roommates for years and years in three big cities and if I can help it never ever again.
I’m a male and this is literally the reasons why I live in studio. Don’t need a lot of space because I’m not at home that much. When I bring girls over they don’t like it because there spoil whores and want there men too look like he has a lot $$$ but other then that it’s fine. I like living in a studio

Honestly I was thinking about moving my bedroom into the living room since it’s so big and turning my one bedroom into like a closet or something plus I can hear my neighbors in there for some reason the bedroom floor is a lot louder than the rest of the place so I can hear them walking and when they are doing their late night exercise and I can very much Hear it
JustJoeLee there legit are no nice studio apartments where I live 😭 and when I move next I’ll be living with a partner and 3 dogs instead of alone with 1 dog.
I don’t live in a studio but I do live in a small space... I actually like my tiny home.. it’s not for everybody and sometimes my neighbors get on my last nerves with his steady stomping around but that’s the price you pay for apartment living😂😂😂
My boy said “late night exercises” 😂 but yeah due to me watching this channel I’m now a less shitty person and living in my own Studio as a Chef in the city!
Hey 👋🏾 about the toaster oven. There are those that can be installed underneath a kitchen cabinet so they aren’t necessarily taking up counter space you can look into those
Thank you so much for your video! I recently moved to a new studio apartment, basically one big room with kitchen place, my work space, and my bed. What most annoys me, it's shoes I go outside so close to my bed. If I move my bed to a different part of room, I will be close to my kitchen and a fridge that makes noice. Definitely will look into 1 bedroom after my lease up. Forgot to mention, view from my window kind of also upsetting, nearest neighbors building too close to mine.
Depending on the situation with your microwave you might be able to switch it out with a microwave oven. Breville has a 3 in 1 option that seems to work well.
Nice new lightning behind the mirror! 😉 I’ve been living in a small apartment here in Bangkok for years and got used to all the things you mentioned...especially the living with a partner part 😉😍
Great to hear about what you say you got to get used to but, it wouldn't deter me one bit nothing bothers me and, it's only common sense if you're in one room you got to keep it clean but thanks anyway for the advice I'd still go for it
I wouldn’t last 2 min a one room apartment especially if I had a s/o. I need my chill room to be separate from my bedroom and if I’m hosting friends I need a dedicated bedroom or living room with a pull out couch/air mattress for them sleep over. I’m obsessed with the idea of having people over and hosting. But I also need my room to be my sanctuary so I can’t have people in it (except a partner Ofc)
Mm sounds nitpicky, just make sure when you do get a studio to get one that fits YOU. Some folks can live in a 200 sqft some can’t, some can live in a 500/600 sqft 🤷🏽♀️ these are problems you can find living in a one bedroom depending on the size so 🤷🏽♀️ ye
That's why I'm not using the floor layouts that puts the bathroom beside the kitchen. That's gross Thanks to this video, I'll make a bigger bathroom window for proper ventilation

I'm looking at moving to a 200 sq ft studio apartment coming from living in a 1 bedroom apartment with a full living room, dining room and kitchen. Of course I'll have to downsize a lot, but what's the size of your studio?
We don’t like in a tiny or micro house. But by Texas standards and a family of three we live in a pretty small space (It’s right at 1500sqft.) We have run into a lot of the same smell issues 😂 💩 I feel like I am cleaning all the time cause a few things just wreck the whole place. Right now my husband is working from and nice headphones are about the only thing saving our relationship some days.
I live in a 19sqm studio with a faux loft sleeping area. The worst part? I have 2 other people living with me. So yeah the smell, the privacy, the sounds. They all suck. Eapecially when you’re the one paying the bills and you can have no privacy whatsoever hahaha
I make 19 an hour full time at 19 years old in costal California and have a bad relationship with my parents but I don’t think I can even afford a studio LOL

Yup the lights are a viibbbeee

We also had a giant window wall which was awesome but there was also just yknow one less wall to use cause window
yes! haha
Did Joe just come out to us?
this little mention in the video and the Instagram post made me smile :)
Did he? Cause Hes super hot and deserves it ')
I knew it! The Birkenstock’s gave it away a long time ago.
I thought the guy was like a room mate but cool as long as he happy.
My studio is amazing, driveway , giant yard and garden, quality everything, appliances, toilet, .......and yes , im a virgo , vacuum x 2 a day ! Clean that cat li
Just moved into my first effeciency, my first time living by my self.
Candles Joe! Even unscented ones will suck the stink out of the air. Plus they're moody. 10/10 would recommend
There is always space for a desk and a computer. You might need to get rid of a couch if your apartment is too small
I was considering a studio until the virus hit. Most studios where I’m at don’t come with balconies.
This makes me very nervous to make into my studio 😫 it’s 165sqft in downtown Las Vegas it’s $680 a month all inclusive though. Which is nice.
I used to have a small toaster oven which I keep inside the cupboard. I only bring it up to the counter when I use it.
small spaces are the hardest to clean although its quick, the mess isnt localized
I definitely want to move in a studio temporarily until I find a partner to move into a 1 bedroom or condo with because I don't want roommates and I'm cheap af/wanting to save up for a car. For the cooking smells I will either:
A. Buy a fan and possibly some strong smelling incense or oil defuser (I don't like candles)
B. Cook at my parents house 😂
I like living in a studio
this puts things into perspective, thanks for being honest and real with living in studio apartments!
Clean as you go... yes, something im still struggling with in my postage-stamp house... will forever hear your voice now: "put shit back!"
Thanks Joe 😁
Your mirror lights look dope too 👌
"Now that I'm cuffed." So cute!
"When your animal corpse eating buddies come over and take a little dookie" HAHAHA THIS
My one bedroom apartment I’m in right now is honestly too big because I can hide my mess 🤣
Honestly I was thinking about moving my bedroom into the living room since it’s so big and turning my one bedroom into like a closet or something plus I can hear my neighbors in there for some reason the bedroom floor is a lot louder than the rest of the place so I can hear them walking and when they are doing their late night exercise and I can very much Hear it
Kettrick Universe I literally only have a bed and a dog crate in my bedroom.
join that studio life
JustJoeLee there legit are no nice studio apartments where I live 😭 and when I move next I’ll be living with a partner and 3 dogs instead of alone with 1 dog.
OMG, that Jasper face! I LOVE it!! LOL I also live in a small space. It can be tough, but you make things work. My biggest issue lack of storage! haha
I’m only 16 but thanks for the advice joe 😅
haha no problem
I'm so happy for your relationship ☺️
I wish you the best of the world with your partner 😚
I don’t live in a studio but I do live in a small space... I actually like my tiny home.. it’s not for everybody and sometimes my neighbors get on my last nerves with his steady stomping around but that’s the price you pay for apartment living😂😂😂
In a nutshell that's why apartments blow. Loud neighbors and no true privacy. Never lived in an apartment that wasn't like that.
My first apartment was a studio. I HATED IT! The bathroom was separated from the sleeping area, but it still sucked.
Be thankful that you have a shelter, I am homeless/partial homeless, be thankful, no need to complaining.
I live in a studio apartment as well and my microwave turns into an oven! Don’t know exactly how, but it works lol
My washer is also a 2 in 1 unit. When the washer function is done spinning it automatically turns into a dryer!
Yes, my microwave is a combo confection oven. Would be super convenient solution in a studio apartment!
Depends in the structural design of the studio.
Nice new lightning behind the mirror! 😉 I’ve been living in a small apartment here in Bangkok for years and got used to all the things you mentioned...especially the living with a partner part 😉😍
I thought I was the only one who used the toilet like that....... 😂
same
Drying Laundry takes over your entire living space. Dehumidifier goes a long way.
You can buy miniature washing machines designed for camping.
Great to hear about what you say you got to get used to but, it wouldn't deter me one bit nothing bothers me and, it's only common sense if you're in one room you got to keep it clean but thanks anyway for the advice I'd still go for it
Coffee ground bags can help with poop smell we use them at the hospital for patients who have diarrhea
But I also need my room to be my sanctuary so I can’t have people in it (except a partner Ofc)
nice, definitely not for everyone :)
2:33 had me cracking 🙆🏼♂️🤣
Mm sounds nitpicky, just make sure when you do get a studio to get one that fits YOU. Some folks can live in a 200 sqft some can’t, some can live in a 500/600 sqft 🤷🏽♀️ these are problems you can find living in a one bedroom depending on the size so 🤷🏽♀️ ye
I predict that there's a 2 bedroom apartment, 1 bedroom being used as an office/den, in your future...
perhaps haha
@@justjoelee haha
The real question does your partner also have to be a minimalist?!?
nah
I mean not at first 👀
That's why I'm not using the floor layouts that puts the bathroom beside the kitchen. That's gross
Thanks to this video, I'll make a bigger bathroom window for proper ventilation
Man you nailed it ! Everything you mentioned is true.
Air filter machines help with noice as well as smells you should review a few.
David Jenson Chicago
Can we also talk abt Joe’s skin? It’s glowing!
damn i hate when my neighbors are loud when they are doing their late night exercises…
YES pasta sauce jars! Man. If you really want to leave an impression: use a salsa jar. *W/ the lid
Try Poop spray to eliminate smells when friends come over.
I don't invite anyone who is going to be using my restroom for number 2. I don't have many people over.
Appreciate the advice on partnership in a studio, so important to have your own space at home!
congrats on the relationship mate!
I'm looking at moving to a 200 sq ft studio apartment coming from living in a 1 bedroom apartment with a full living room, dining room and kitchen. Of course I'll have to downsize a lot, but what's the size of your studio?
how are you finding it after you down sized from 1 bed flat to studio
@@mrlegend9225 I never did. I didn't get the studio someone beat me to it.
@@lexic6081 oky are you still looking for a studio or managed to find one
@@mrlegend9225 no, I stopped looking. I just worked something out with my landlord where I can pay rent in installments.
@@lexic6081 oky because I wouldn't give up my flat to downsize to studio
You’ve got a dishwasher... but not an oven? Wait what?! Duuuude no!
How do you find having a dog in such a small space? As I didn't get a pet due to being in a studio but I would love to have a dog, Thanks
I live in a 19sqm studio with a faux loft sleeping area. The worst part? I have 2 other people living with me. So yeah the smell, the privacy, the sounds. They all suck. Eapecially when you’re the one paying the bills and you can have no privacy whatsoever hahaha
MAKE EM PAYYY
I have a Dyson air purifier, looks cute, and it acts up when I cook or fart
I make 19 an hour full time at 19 years old in costal California and have a bad relationship with my parents but I don’t think I can even afford a studio LOL
0:56 i loved it 🥺♥️ MCE
A studio is perfect for me since my shit doesn't stink.
I Love my small apartment
