My nails used to peel and I would use Nailtiques Formula 2. They stopped peeling when I switched to my current nail routine. I use Zoya's Naked Manicure Base, Perfector (under color polish), and Glossy Seal (I agree that it's a bit thin, but it's good enough for something I get on sale). I moisturize my hands with coconut oil and use a glass file when my nails grow too long for my liking. I generally paint my nails twice a week.
Is the Glossy Seal the same as the Zoya Armor top coat? It's definitely good as a top coat...it's just hard to go back to it once you start using a more thicker top coat like the G&G. I have a mini bottle that I use when I travel for like touch-ups and what not!
Heather D The Glossy Seal is part of the Naked Manicure line and is different than Armor. Armor is thicker, but Zoya has been including the Naked Manicure line (base, perfector, and glossy seal) in sales so that's how I've been getting it.
Hi heather! You can add a couple drops of thinner to the G&G to loosen it up. It doesn't seam to alter the formula. You can also add more top coat from the refill bottle. Water is death for nails! If you don't want to wear polish on the weekend, at least put on a coat of Nailtiques or OPI nail envy (what I use).
Good to know! I am always hesitant to add thinner to things...even though I have a whole bottle of it! Guess I will pull that bottle of G&G I threw in the garbage last night! ;p I have not had issues with my nails and water but I guess it wouldn't hurt to throw on a base just to be on the safe side! Thanks!
Idk how well it works cause I haven’t tried it yet myself but I heard or read that “plumping” top coats work good for glitter manis in keeping the polish from becoming textured
Interesting! That is the one I tried and I didn't like it. Maybe I did something wrong? I just didn't like the wait time when it came to it drying. Do you find yours take a while to dry? I want to like it!!
Ohh wow! I guess that just goes to show how things work differently on different nails. No, not at all. It takes maybe 3-5 minutes for it to dry. But I'm also not super busy like you seem to be and have all the to wait for it to dry lol. I just find I have to be really careful when using it, if I'm using my nails as tools my polish pops off at nothing but other times I can get it to last up to 4 days.
My ride or die products are Perfect Formula gel coat (not actually a gel, just gel like) for my base coat/strengthener, Lilly Anne's Garden cuticle balm, lotion, and cuticle oils, and recently discovered Purple Willow Apothecary cuticle balm! Connie
I thought I picked some of that Lilly Anne's Garden balm during the last PPU but I guess I didn't. I need to try that next round! I will check out the Purple Willow! That sounds very luxurious!
I used to be a die-hard Glisten and Glow top coat lover too, until I tried Super Chic Lacquer. There’s is just as shiny and glossy and fast drying, but I get to use more of the bottle before it gets too thick to use, like the Glisten and Glow one does.
I use cuticle oil in morning & bedtime, using Nailtique 2+ for a vertical split not completely healed and have same issue you have on my index finger with it curving in and had to cut nail back 1/8" to fix may come back (?)
I'd love to look as 'gross' as you - you look great! My natural nails are pathetic - they just peel and are paper thin. I've tried everything (I take biotin and horsetail every day - it's definitely helped, but not enough), but have now resorted to gel overlays. I feel like I have normal nails for the first time in my long life! I am meticulous about cuticle oil, but that's about it.
Have you tried Nailtiques? That sounds a lot like what my nails were dealing with prior to using it. Glad the gel overlays are working though. I understand the frustration! I definitely looked a lot better on camera than I thought I did! Thank you! Haha.....it has been so hot the last few days that it feels like my face is melting off and then I sit down to film a video....and I feel like I must look all weird but I just can't be bothered to take an extra twenty minute putting makeup back on! :p
Heather D - I don't blame you. You don't need to be getting in from work, then get made up to make a video. You look great as you are. Yeah, I tried Nailtiques - it's great, and it did help a lot, but my nails just kept on doing their best to tip me over the edge! My natural nails are evil traitors, so they all have to wear a costume now!
Haha, yes! I have terrible road rage and I get frustrated sitting in traffic. I find riding my bike, while hot in the summer, makes me much more relaxed. Plus I'm getting exercise and it cuts about 20 minutes off my commute home from work!
I looked up in the middle of your video, I was playing a game on my phone while listening..and you were giving me the "finger", lol...then it dawned on me you were just showing the shape of the nail...silly me. I use QTICA Solid Gold cuticle oil gel, several times a week, as for my nails themselves I actually have never used anything. I have extremely strong hard, strong nails, you can't bend them if you try. Handy for cleaning, I don't have to use a scraper to get muck up off the floor when I'm washing it, thumb nail does just fine. However I think that's a bi-product of surviving Graves Disease which one doctor mentioned to me. I use Zoya's remove, and Acetone for clean up. Essie or L'Oreal base coat and Seche Vite top coat, no one in Canada carries HK Girl from Glisten and Glow and ordering it from the website cost me $18.00 so never ordered it again. I have to file my nails down ever so often or I can't type, in fact just did it this past weekend because I couldn't put in my security code on my garage opener on that keypad..lol..
I may try that QTICA cuticle oil eventually! It looks nice! My breaking point for when I have to file them down is when I can't text on my phone and I keep the wrong letters and get frustrated to the point when I want to throw my phone across the room! ......and I would NEVER flip you off!! The devil cat.....I might....but you guys.....NEVER!!!! :p
My nails curl down on both sides so I have to file them like crazy to get rid of that shape and make them flatter and straighter. They also grow extremely quickly so I have to file them down as well because I hate really long nails. I also have a problem with cuticles that grow too much. I do my nails every four days or so but before I can paint them I have to do all of that maintenance. It's kind of annoying but if I want to like the way my nails look and actually enjoy my manicure, I have to first have the shape and length that I want. Otherwise regardless of how beautiful the polish is, my nails will just make me sick when I look at them.
The constant filing would drive me nuts just because I am no good at shaping my nails. But I get it, we do what we have to do to keep our nails looking good...otherwise why bother putting nail polish on? Do you just file them shorter so they don't curl? I never know what to do to try and correct them so I just end up filing them back. :/
They don't curl under at the tips. Only the sides curl inward as they grow. So it's really the sides that have to be filed so they don't curl inward because that shape literally makes me sick lol. I file the tips just to keep them a certain length because I don't like really long nails. I used to clip them every few weeks but I learned from bonitajuanita that clipping them can cause peeling. She recommended filing only and yea I think my nails peel less since I've stopped using nail scissors on them. Yep all the filing drives me crazy but the results are worth it for me.
Ya, mine curl on the sides also. I usually just file them back to stop the curling.....I don't think I've tried filing the sides only.....I never trust myself when filing...always worried I'm going to mess my nail up! Hmm...maybe I'll try that so I don't have to lose all my nail length each time.
I use Nailtiques 2 also. Love the stuff! When l went to order the peel off from Picture Polish, it was $25.00 to ship and l had to have a minimum order of $19.00. Any suggestions or do you know of a stocklist that carries it to decrease the shipping cost? I was trying to order it off the link you provided at the Picture Polish website. Thanks for any information! I really enjoyed this video as with all your videos!!!
Oh ya that is their main website. I just linked there so people could find their stockists! I believe i get mine from Color 4 Nails: color4nails.com/picture-polish-peel-off-glitter-base-base-amp-top-coats

Don’t worry about getting all fancied up for your videos, you look great and I’ll take your videos no matter what!
😘
G&G is my fave top coat too...you can add some thinner when it starts to get thick. Makes it last a bit longer! 😊
Awesome! I will do that with the bottle I just threw in the garbage! :p

You should try peel-eze from imk. it's probably the best peel off base coat that I've tried!

i've been using nailtiques 2+ for years. my job is soooo hard on my nails.. it is the only thing that keeps my nails past my fingertips.

We went from winter to summer here!
Wow, you are dedicated to ride your bike to work in the heat of Texas. Thank you for the information.

Oh I wouldn't have thought yours curl on the sides. They look really straight.
Linda it just my two middle fingers that curl and thats bad enough! That must be super frustrating!

I feel your pain on your nails on shaping and knowing it is annoying
You talk way too much
That is correct....
