It is because a PHASER is better utilized in all aspects of synthesis: Much better to use with the noise gen, and to get 70s vibes from Jarre to Herbie to Clockwork Orange - all in one stop.
Such a GREAT synth and step forward for Behringer. Congratulations on a great new product guys ! However, I would think that adding patch / program memory, a built-in reverb and a four octave keyboard would have been the cherry on the top. Maybe next model?
Getting a chorus that sounds right like this one is very rare. I prefer this Instead of another delay that is going to sound just like one I already have.
I think the junoesque chorus is the best decision here. Delay or reverb can be added by myself, but to have the whole tone from the machine itself is great 😊
I don't think Nick likes it as much as I do, but this is truly a great sounding synth and for maybe 25% of a Moog? I look forward to Behringer taking my money! What a great time to be alive and a musician...and a synth addict as well!
I feel like Behringer is effectively head of marketing for Moog and with each tip of the hat release a new generation of subjects honors the true king of synth coolness: Bob Moog
Yes, you can get a more fully-featured polyphonic synth for 700 quid. But compared to a Moog Model-D at over 3000, with a similar sound and layout, and all of the extra features, this looks like a steal.
I think the poly d has a lot more character than the Korg Minilogue. It has a warm and inviting look to it, like a piece of furniture, and though I haven't received mine yet, something tells me the way it plays is just as warm and inviting. I do agree with him that having delay is what really will bring out this thing's true potential, which is why I'm glad I already have a boss digital delay. Behringer seems to have delivered with this product. Most synth enthusiasts have VSTs on their computers, and if we're going to buy a standalone synth it only makes sense for it to be a pure analog beast like this.
I have the original Minilogue and love it, but man the sweet sweet sound of this synth... just so wonderfully satisfying and very complementary to the Korg
I'm sort of glad it's paraphonic. Makes it a bit different from all the billion polys out there! Beautiful beautiful beautiful sound from this machine. WAY TO GO!
If you want paraphony, you can also open the filters and the amp on a poly, and patch it through a mono synth, using midi out, to trigger the mono synth.
You can get a pulse width of sorts, you have to flip the third oscillator to the backward triangle, and combine it with OSC 1,'s sawtooth. detuning will sweep the width :)
Got my first Model D new in 1978, second one used in 1982, a Minimoog Voyager four years ago, a Moog Model D re-issue last year that was returned due to a short and poor workmanship, and a Behringer Model D about a month after that. Needless to say I like Minimoogs so I’m thrilled to see Behringer release this. These things are gonna fly off the shelves I’m sure. Not gonna get one personally though as my Model D and Moog Voyager just collect dust since getting the Moog Model D iPad app, but I’m thrilled for you guys who are planning on getting one, and hope to see some cool music on the tube made with em. 🎹👍
Wombra Hi Wombra .. well to me yeah its that good, I could take songs I did 40 years ago on my first ever Minimoog and substitute in the Moog Minimoog app for those tracks, and after some engineering nobody could tell the difference. I like all the hardware laying around though cause its fun to look at and keeps me connected to my roots. Its all pretty weird these days having grown up in the days before midi was even invented.
Back in about 1983 I was instructed that Bob Mogue himself pronounced it as you would Rogue (which of course...) and then saw this interview years later on TV ua-cam.com/video/UDN-y0QQ7cs/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo and got the full story
Wonderful, useful demo, Nick. Different conclusions can be made depending on where one focuses. I HEAR a melancholy, atmospheric sound that would be great for film scoring. Both soft and Moog-punchy, one can chord and modulate, brighten or mute. This board would lend itself to a player where fine-tuning of tonality is appreciated along with both harmony and dripping, detuned disintegration. I could see where your suggestions- or at least some of them- would make it into a Version2. Again, I loved what you brought out of the Behringer Poly D and I appreciate your honest reactions throughout.
I’m looking at it as a deluxe 4 oscillator Model D that just happens to have paraphony and whatnot. If I get one it will be with that in mind. I was super excited when I saw Behringer’s release video but now that I saw your’s Nick, not as much, LOL. Still I am of the opinion that what Behringer is doing is absolutely fantastic. They are steadily becoming my favorite synth manufacturer. There is so much coming out all the time from them that it’s almost hard to keep track of it all. What more could a budget conscious synth player ask for?
What i like about this is that it has a full sized keybed with aftertouch. Also the paraphony. Great introduction to this Behringer christmas surprise Nick!
Thanks again Nick 🙏 Everyone and their mother has already got a reverb pedal or plug-in. a good chorus is welcome. I’m stoked! Looks like a solid build, sounds great, limited functionality to a degree can actually be a good thing. I’m gonna buy me one!

I remember when the Behringer Model D expander came out i was sooooo close to buy one but i held back a little and was hoping there would be a keyboard version soon. And sure enough, Behringer delivered and made sure the double price would give us even more for the money instead of just keys and wood side panels. The keys alone would have been already reason enough for me to buy one but the Sequencer and 4th oscillator and even the analog Juno-inspired Chorus, really made me buy it blindly and i haven't regret it ever since. That heavy non-moog is exactly what i always dreamed of since i started looking for Synthesizers to buy in late 2002, when everything you could get was either VSTs or virtual analog hardware and few actual analog ones, as well as second hand vintage gear and all of it for insane prices. NOW really is the perfect time to start getting into hardware synths with the sheer incredible amount of affordable instruments. And i am soooo grateful for that. The Poly D really is a synth that really takes you on a journey and with a multi-effect unit at the end of the signal chain you're amazed what sonic landscapes you can discover. I cannot recommend the Poly D enough. It actually convinced me to give the Odyssey and the DeepMind6/12 a place in my gear list as well. Soon......
It’s nice. And I really like it. But of course what we all need is Behringer to do a version of the PolyMoog 280a with of course the all important Vox Humana patch built in. Btw that chorus is really nice. But add a phaser into the package and start to get a winner. Mind you we can always add outboard fx like you have with the delay.
Great sounding synth. I always wanted a polyphonic model D and it's a shame this isn't it despite then name. I don't think i'll be able to resist one of these though.
Goodness gracious, that pad you were playing showing the paraphony was just simply amazing.. Bravo sir, always loved the minimoog sound but I actually really enjoyed that, it was very lush, still had has that minimoog character. I guess thats one place the chorus can really help! Always liked juno-style chorus anyway.. I sure hope they listen to your suggestions tho, there is plenty of real estate left that could be used even without it becoming cclaustrophobic. I mean, there is room for a delay already, right where the behringer logo is... Not that I mind the logo, cause I feckin' adore Behringer, but that neutron delay would be cool since they already have the circuit. Any delay would be nice tho, as long as it has a mix knob. 3 knob, time, repeats, mix, lets go Behringer... :p
Honestly I'm glad they added a Juno style chorus, that's one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to when this releases. A delay or verb would be nice but I can add that after in the chain
@@oOFTJOo awesome! I have the 12 as well as the Model D and they are the core of my synth setup along with a nice sequencer. They just sound so great and the Deepmind is, for lack of a better term, deep....
I like paraphonic! I think it allows for arguably more musical expression than straight polyphony. Maybe it should be an option on polys in future. Good, no nonsense review as usual - thanks!
Just a few days ago when I’ve seen that Behringer bought the mono/poly patent I thought, yes! This’ll be my perfect mono synth, 4 osc, but I thought a 5U ladder filter would be a nice thing to add to it. But then this happens..
Oh that synth feels VERY robust to be honest. And massive. It's not a plastic bomber like for example a Roland Gaia. The Poly D really feels like a tank and it's insanely fun to play it and noodle around for hours.
It is odd that all the oscillators have low frequency mode, but only one can be routed for modulation. It would have been nice to have more modulation routings. I also would have put more waveforms on the extra LFO above the pitch bend wheel, or at least put sample & hold in place of the square wave. The Linntronics midi upgrade on my original Minimoog adds an extra LFO with multiple waveforms, including sample & hold.
This is the synth we wish Moog had built and at a price we can actually afford. Thank you Behringer! Now stop already, you're killing my savings account.
I don't see how anyone that has played music for any length of time would not want to buy one. I'm not a fan of "mono" synths without program patch memory. But I have to say, it sounds gorgeous! I'd guess after spending a bit of time with it, I could get around on it fast enough to get to a few sounds quickly, and provided the tuning is fairly stable, at $699 it could certainly justify its spot in a KB rig, even if its only for bass and some leads. Once again, Behringer hits the target.

It is because a PHASER is better utilized in all aspects of synthesis:
Much better to use with the noise gen, and to get 70s vibes from Jarre to Herbie to Clockwork Orange - all in one stop.
It sounds good. Like really good! It warms my heart that this exists and for this price. The chorus is a nice addition too.
Such a GREAT synth and step forward for Behringer. Congratulations on a great new product guys ! However, I would think that adding patch / program memory, a built-in reverb and a four octave keyboard would have been the cherry on the top. Maybe next model?
Having heard the Juno chorus I'd much rather have that than delay or reverb, sounds great.
I was thinking the same thing but I would probably buy a delay/reverb combo pedal and an additional onboard chorus will be nice
i think they gave it the chorus because you only get one VCO per note in Para mode, its there to simulate more VCOs
Getting a chorus that sounds right like this one is very rare. I prefer this Instead of another delay that is going to sound just like one I already have.
Cami Lito Yeah, I love the chorus. It’s one of the best new choruses I’ve heard. Much better than the chorus on my Rev2.
Chorus with external in is also a bonus. Shove my Casio CZ-1 through it.
I think the junoesque chorus is the best decision here. Delay or reverb can be added by myself, but to have the whole tone from the machine itself is great 😊
Coolout Coexist yusssss 👋🏻🎱👄🎱🤚🏻
Yep if you get this machine you're likely to have a stereo delay effect. A Zoom CDR will be more than enough for that IMO.
You make the chords sound so lovely though, Nick! Jeez. It's a wonderful sounding thing, this.
I don't think Nick likes it as much as I do, but this is truly a great sounding synth and for maybe 25% of a Moog? I look forward to Behringer taking my money! What a great time to be alive and a musician...and a synth addict as well!
He's conflicted, as are many of us. He has the added complication of knowing reps from Moog Roland etc

I feel like Behringer is effectively head of marketing for Moog and with each tip of the hat release a new generation of subjects honors the true king of synth coolness: Bob Moog
Thanks for the heads up on this beauty! Really love the laid back tones in this :)
@2:25 that was pretty slick editing heh.
Raffi Tchakmakjian haha that’s what I thought
Needs a star wipe
clicked ur time stamp and almost vomitted
It's just a screen rotation LOL :)
Yes, you can get a more fully-featured polyphonic synth for 700 quid. But compared to a Moog Model-D at over 3000, with a similar sound and layout, and all of the extra features, this looks like a steal.
Nick, you just sold me @19:22... you created a patch that hits tones of the OB-Xa.
PingPong85 Rush... Moving Pictures
@@analogsynthplayer sort of sounds like the intro to The camera Eye.
PingPong85 Yes, a thieme of things throughout the album
I think the poly d has a lot more character than the Korg Minilogue. It has a warm and inviting look to it, like a piece of furniture, and though I haven't received mine yet, something tells me the way it plays is just as warm and inviting. I do agree with him that having delay is what really will bring out this thing's true potential, which is why I'm glad I already have a boss digital delay. Behringer seems to have delivered with this product. Most synth enthusiasts have VSTs on their computers, and if we're going to buy a standalone synth it only makes sense for it to be a pure analog beast like this.
Nick seems kind of mediumwhelmed here but I thought the sounds he was getting to come out of it were gorgeous. Incredibly musical and harmonious.
I have the original Minilogue and love it, but man the sweet sweet sound of this synth... just so wonderfully satisfying and very complementary to the Korg
Reverb or a delay effect would have been nice but I feel like the Juno chorus is such a nice addition that it works perfectly. Really want this thing
That patch at the very end sounded so nice
I'm sort of glad it's paraphonic. Makes it a bit different from all the billion polys out there! Beautiful beautiful beautiful sound from this machine. WAY TO GO!
If you want paraphony, you can also open the filters and the amp on a poly, and patch it through a mono synth, using midi out, to trigger the mono synth.
Moog circuit + Roland chorus + Korg seq
it's just so......
COOOOOL
Its a brilliant synthesiser and does what you want. Polybrute and most other modern analogs: option paralysis in a box.
You can get a pulse width of sorts, you have to flip the third oscillator to the backward triangle, and combine it with OSC 1,'s sawtooth. detuning will sweep the width :)
I figured that out on accident and never found it again so I'm glad you said that so now I know !
Chris Strobel the app is that good?? yikes D: 😳
Behringer Pauly D.. Not analog, but fist pump driven! Sweet!
Ordered mine today, can't wait, I've been looking at that synth bootay for a long time
UK: The Moog has many rooting options.
US: The Mogue has many routing options.
It's still "routing" options in the UK, the US just pronounces it wrong! ;)
Back in about 1983 I was instructed that Bob Mogue himself pronounced it as you would Rogue (which of course...) and then saw this interview years later on TV ua-cam.com/video/UDN-y0QQ7cs/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo and got the full story
This sounds very good. For the price. I will be buying it. Thanks Behringer for giving us the tools that we can afford.
As soon as the first note was played I said "Ooh its fat"
If they hadn't released the D first, this would have been so much cooler. Or they could have done more, to make it clear this is a D on steroids.
how did he possibly sway ur opinion with his negativity!?
What i like about this is that it has a full sized keybed with aftertouch. Also the paraphony. Great introduction to this Behringer christmas surprise Nick!
I'm going to dream about this in my keybed. Hope I don't get board.
How much does it weigh? I've got a Voyager OldSchool, and that thing's a back breaking 43lbs!
Thanks again Nick 🙏 Everyone and their mother has already got a reverb pedal or plug-in. a good chorus is welcome. I’m stoked! Looks like a solid build, sounds great, limited functionality to a degree can actually be a good thing. I’m gonna buy me one!
can i ask how you liked yoursband if it managed to keep a spot in your set up?
Behringer is taking advantage of Moog’s missed opportunities!
Upright_Throws Indeed! No patents = free market! Well done.
You mean, Moog producing in the USA and not taking advantage of cheap labor and even worse environmental rules. Wait till Donald finds out that Uli is killing his All American Baby. Trade war hell will then really break loose.
spaceman You already see that the Grandmother has no “Made in USA” labels anywhere. Unit or box...
spaceman no actually I mean Moog should have made this synth years ago...since they did not behringer is stepping in to make it a reality
John What I understand is that despite this, all Moog Music Synths are manufactured in Asheville.
Well here's what I want to do I already own a minimoog Model D and I already own an ARP Odyssey so what I want now is the Behringer poly d and the Behringer Odyssey I'm going to put them together on a stand next to the Mini Moog and the ARP Odyssey.
I feel good about this, three years ago I would never have that brand in my studio, thank you Behringer.
Never thought I would even think of selling the slim phatty..
it actually sounds pretty gorgeous, I guess it's a matter of preference, I'd love me some paraphonic lushness
I think that chorus sounds really nice! Adds a really nice Juno feel to it.
The number one man to go to for synth reviews, great work!
Simply a wonderful synth! This is really a very good choice!
I’ve seen these as low as £350 now - I may finally get one.
What an interesting concept. Absolute props to Behringer for making this synth happen. Looks and sounds top notch.
Great demo. Awesome synth. I am so impressed by so many tools coming from Beringer.
Great video. Thanks to Behringer for making affordable poly VCO analog synths!!! Always wanted Sequential Prophet 6 or the Roland JP-8, but can't afford them :) This will definitely help our synth pop song productions.
Your musics great! Hands up superstar:-P
@@NathanChisholm041 Thanks :) Like your playlist with new synth gadgets.
@@ChristineLeeMusic Thanks! I make electronica so deep house techno ect. You should sell your voice on places like Splice you have a great voice and ppl would buy vox samples. Anyway keep it up you're musics is awesome...
@@NathanChisholm041 Thanks for the tip. Will check it out :)
Soon......
Every video that has this D synth sound going through the 60 chorus sounds like "Sweet Dreams" for me :D
And... Juno chorus for a guitar. Excellent...
Also, this will make a killer combo with the VC340.
Good lord, Behringer. Stop taking all of my frikin money. This one right here is a winner for sure.
Thanks for the vid. You made me understand the Polyphony bit, also getting filter modulation on the mod wheel. It's a great buy for the money!
14:40 when he pops the Chorus switch 😍
I wasn't expecting to like this, but actually yes I would take a paraphonic Model D over a monophonic one. Awesome 70s vibes!
I suggest a new slogan: ''Arp today, Jupiter tomorrow''
MinusNoir S.E.M oberheim, OBX...
It may not be as featured, but wow those tones are incredible… What a beautiful instrument
Behringer, slowwwww dowwwwwn! My credit card is melting!
not gunna lie, feeling salty they launched this and the wasp before giving a td 3 ship date and still no word on when will see the rd 9.
@@AllenSmithe honestly with behringers turn around they're probably not done with them. give them time to get it right.
Always the best clear no nonsense tutorials! Thanks mate
The chorus adds so much to the sound! I'm really glad that was included.
Honestly I'm glad they added a Juno style chorus, that's one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to when this releases. A delay or verb would be nice but I can add that after in the chain
I like how the mod wheel goes red when you use it
Same thing with the deepmind. I love that feature.
@@oOFTJOo awesome! I have the 12 as well as the Model D and they are the core of my synth setup along with a nice sequencer. They just sound so great and the Deepmind is, for lack of a better term, deep....
Would love to see this compared to the new behringer korg mono/poly!
Would love to see them transform this into something deeper.
I like paraphonic! I think it allows for arguably more musical expression than straight polyphony. Maybe it should be an option on polys in future. Good, no nonsense review as usual - thanks!
2:25 this is what we need more of
Thanks for your evaluation and these really nice routing tricks!
The Behringer Pauly D.
Just a few days ago when I’ve seen that Behringer bought the mono/poly patent I thought, yes! This’ll be my perfect mono synth, 4 osc, but I thought a 5U ladder filter would be a nice thing to add to it. But then this happens..
I'm slowly learning that maybe Behringer has grown up and can build things without knobs and caps just falling off. My trust is returning!!
If they price this at 600, I don't care what this thing is missing it would be a steal.
This is the synth we wish Moog had built and at a price we can actually afford. Thank you Behringer! Now stop already, you're killing my savings account.
This sounds great, amazing even.
Behringer, HOW did you miss up the opportunity to name this the PARA-D
This MUST mean they have a poly Prophet in the works, then! YUSSSS....
