I don’t see how anyone can deny the awesome sound of this synth!! It’s not a clone, forget the clones. All by itself on its own merits it an awesome synthesizer! Behringer did a great job here.
It’s not a clone. It has the same analog circuitry. Another thing people don’t realize is how much better this sounds in person compared to a video. It’s huge. I don’t get the same sounds from software synths.
@@ChrisP3000x It is evidently inspired by the Moog but goes far beyond it. It is Poly, has a sequencer, etc. The mono D is a clone. This is another thing. Your feelings don't change that.
The most musical keyboard demonstrator. Daniel just gets so much out of any synth he touches. his wavestate demo blew my mind. no talk just tasteful sound design on the fly, plus you know he has a lot of experience . i bought one after this demo. Yeah the wavestate and now this
I've probably watched more videos on the Poly D than any other synth and spent more time debating whether or not to hit the "buy" button. This may be the video that finally pushes me over the edge because the emphasis is on PLAYING! The range of sounds are fantastic and the simplicity of the layout really speaks to me. The Mini Moog is an icon, and this is the closest that my wallet will get me to one. And Behringer, to its credit does add some features not found in the the original.
I’ve been waiting over a year for Daniel Fisher to showcase the Poly D. I bought it as soon as it came out and it never disappoints, but in the hands of a true master of synthesis; it’s as if every part of endless space and time has sequestered itself into one machine.
Daniel is the best at these, I watch them just to hear him play! That was the best cover of "In the light" I've hard to date! I love how he shows you what's totally cool about the synth. Keep it up, you're the best!
Bought one of these a few months ago and got some great sounds out of it but never knew what it could REALLY DO until I stumbled upon this video. Dan knows how to make this thing sing and scream. Thank you.
One of the best synth videos I’ve seen. At first I thought, that sounds a bit like Zeppelin, and by golly, it was😊 Behringer really have made an excellent machine here. Great video Daniel.
It doesn’t matter about being good enough in my opinion, I’m a pianist and I’m getting into synths and the Moog One is like over $10k and I’d never drop that much money on an instrument. This is better for me too tho
Never tell yourself that you're not good enough for a quality instrument. It's far better to learn on something that you will enjoy and not have issues with. I play guitar and bass, and back in the day, the prevailing philosophy was that beginners should start on the worst guitar possible. Ever since then, people have been worrying if they're WORTHY of having an expensive guitar, according to their skill level. The only two questions you should ask yourself are: "Will I use it?" and: "Can I afford it?". Having said all that; I'm a rank mediocre keyboardist, but I don't think I'd ever drop $3-$5K on a vintage Minimoog even if I had Rick Wakeman skills. Vintage synths are delicate and require constant maintenance. An old Minimoog is a museum piece, and not something I'd want to use, or fuss with all the time. I certainly wouldn't want to gig with it. And let's be honest... No offense to Bob Moog, he was a genius and a visionary for his time, but the Poly D has way more functionality and versatility than a Minimoog, without sacrificing one whit of that classic Minimoog sound. That's why I have a Poly D arriving next Monday. 😃

@@gigiman8324 you will probably always understand synths better than me. My nephew got into them when he was your age. Now he’s 25. I was young back when menu dives were the only way. Real synths we’re relics. I had two ARPs once but they got stolen before I could figure out how they worked. I’m going to buy this one and I’m going to force myself to learn every aspect of it. I’d like to be able to think of a sound and turn a few knobs and get it. Anyway, I didn’t even know subtractive and additive were a thing till yesterday. I’ve got a long way to go.

Convinced that anyone who would down-vote a Daniel Fisher synth video simply don't like themselves. If mastering synths were compared to Karate, Daniel Fisher is the Master of synth knowledge. I'm talking Kyoshi / Hanshi - 10th Dan level. Change my mind.
Starting with Zeppelin cool. Two many knobs to move would be challenging. Having to remember the starting point, not to mention the steps you have to take when you do create something special. Also, being able to remember the steps. Fun stuff I'll admit. God bless all.
For the most part a very musical demo, which is hard to find when it comes to analog/modular/semimodular synths. Quite impressive. Thinking of getting one of those or maybe wait to see oif Behringer will come up with their version of the Polymoog.
I picked up one of these last xmas. It's awesome. All the classic sounds come falling out of it. The build is pretty good except for the play in some of the plastic rotary knobs. The chorus is weapon grade.
I imagine the definition in the dictionary for the “POLY D” is listed as the following = “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.” Some pieces of gear just have an emergent type of personality to them that’s just so exciting! And no matter when/where, or for how long we’ve been making music - these are the pieces that get our full refreshing attention! It’s the pieces we call “favorite” and remind us of why we all began (and continue) to make music.
Wow that first patch you created it's amazing, and you got a great sound with barely any adjustments. Totally awesome, blown away. Behringer is getting better and better! This is totally one of their best. Does this midi sync OK please? Thank you!
The key to the first patch was that I had one of the Output jacks connected to the Aux In jack to create a mild feedback loop. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
This would sound mean thru my metro 24 size pedalboard, sequencing with external ring mod, synth, pitch, and looper would get me lots of different options
Is there a way to control either the hold/rest button or delay knob using CV in? Or perhaps an expression pedal that opens and closes the gate? In place of damper capability. Thanks

I was in the same boat as you. This was my first analog, in deciding between the two, I chose the Poly D first. I still want the MonoPoly, but I’m happy the Poly D was what I got first.

I wish Moog and Behringer could become friends and combine this with the Matriarch. They have some overlapping features, and lots of complementary functions that would go well in one instrument. Imagine these sweet sounding oscillators going into that Moog stereo delay!
Is there a way to save patches on the Poly D? I'm greatly considering purchasing this one, though I have yet to see any reviews on how to save patches.
Is there a way to control damper/ sustain with a pedal? My poly D won’t respond to CC64 or when damper/sustain is being engaged on a midi controller that has a damper/sustain jack. My other synths don’t have this issue.
Hi Andy. The Poly D doesn't respond to MIDI CC#64, so it doesn't matter which way you send CC# 64. It won't work. You could, if you wanted to be clever, rig up a footswitch and a 9v battery to go to the V-Trig (Voltage Trigger) input jack. -_Daniel_

OK SO I FIGURED THIS OUT. I bought a DOD FX-17 (using w/ power supply, not battery for CV function) and am sending 5v CV into the Poly D’s Ext. V Trig with a TRS cable. You can open and close the gate with this essentially acting as a sustain/hold pedal.
How does the Poly D sound next to Moog Music's own software synths for iOS like the Model D or Modular 15? Both were offered free last weekend to celebrate Bob Moog's birthday, but normally just $15 or $30. And how about the Poly D vs Arturia's Mini or the MiniMonster VST? Does the Poly D reproduce the Moog sound better than these, equally as well, or is it's attraction mainly just the "hands on" physical controls? One Behringer D owner told me Moog's iOS Model D sounded more authentic. I bought it for $5 when introduced I think in the same week as the Behringer D.
So I can’t speak for the app but I have Arturia’s and I haven’t used theirs since getting this. This made me realize how thin and boring ALL of the V collection is when played next to their originals.
Sound wise, you are going to have more flexibility with the software synths you mentioned. The experience of using each of these instruments is really where the difference is. It's really up to what you prefer. Do you want the analog/physical experience? Or do you prefer the software interaction experience? There is no right or wrong answer - just what you prefer. Sound wise, software will always "do more".
@@prospectnyc I was wondering more purely as for the difference in how they sound. But it seems clear from several videos, Moog's own App of their MiniMoog seems to stand up pretty well against the Behringer purely in terms of how it sounds. Some owners of both have even said the App sounds more authentic. As for the user experience, having the hardware layout all labeled like that would be the preferred method. That said, I could easily assign CC controls to the 9 sliders & 10 knobs of my MIDI controller, plus additional CC controls I could assign like buttons and even the drum triggers could be assigned. On a per song basis, I'd never need more real-time controls than that. But if you want to create your own sounds from scratch, it would be more complicated to remember what was assigned for so many different parameters unless your gonna label them or something. I was curious of Daniel's opinion on this since he has worked extensively with various Moog hardware synths. Behringer would have to add the ability to save user presets for me to even consider a synth from them.
@@Supremeteamcaptain The Arturia are decent, but Moog's own software is obviously going to be more faithful. My only complaint with the Arturia is stepping on filters. Oddly, I've heard some stepping even in Behringer hardware.
@@n8goulet Yes. Software now a-days will always beat hardware on the basis of sound. Assigning CC's among software and controllers is boring and uninspiring. That doesn't work for me because it doesn't "stick" well. Open up other instruments, reboot, load a new session - CC assignments don't always stick. But yeah, sound-wise software, imo, is going to sound far better than this.

I absolutely adore the Moog sound, but I'm not a good enough musician to drop the money on a real one. This really seems like a viable option to me.

Moog has a few apps simulating their synths. You can experiment there on the super cheap and then decide your next step.

So I can’t speak for the app but I have Arturia’s and I haven’t used theirs since getting this. This made me realize how thin and boring ALL of the V collection is when played next to their originals.
Sound wise, you are going to have more flexibility with the software synths you mentioned. The experience of using each of these instruments is really where the difference is. It's really up to what you prefer. Do you want the analog/physical experience? Or do you prefer the software interaction experience? There is no right or wrong answer - just what you prefer. Sound wise, software will always "do more".
@@prospectnyc I was wondering more purely as for the difference in how they sound. But it seems clear from several videos, Moog's own App of their MiniMoog seems to stand up pretty well against the Behringer purely in terms of how it sounds. Some owners of both have even said the App sounds more authentic.
As for the user experience, having the hardware layout all labeled like that would be the preferred method. That said, I could easily assign CC controls to the 9 sliders & 10 knobs of my MIDI controller, plus additional CC controls I could assign like buttons and even the drum triggers could be assigned. On a per song basis, I'd never need more real-time controls than that. But if you want to create your own sounds from scratch, it would be more complicated to remember what was assigned for so many different parameters unless your gonna label them or something. I was curious of Daniel's opinion on this since he has worked extensively with various Moog hardware synths.
Behringer would have to add the ability to save user presets for me to even consider a synth from them.
@@Supremeteamcaptain The Arturia are decent, but Moog's own software is obviously going to be more faithful. My only complaint with the Arturia is stepping on filters. Oddly, I've heard some stepping even in Behringer hardware.
@@n8goulet Yes. Software now a-days will always beat hardware on the basis of sound. Assigning CC's among software and controllers is boring and uninspiring. That doesn't work for me because it doesn't "stick" well. Open up other instruments, reboot, load a new session - CC assignments don't always stick. But yeah, sound-wise software, imo, is going to sound far better than this.
