I did this thing I would call “scare the band” I would get as close to the stage as possible and try to take over the show by being loud as fuck! I could actually compete with band volume when they slowed it down. They would just look at me and I was so lit up I would just laugh and make them drown me out! I thought it was fun and funny. They actually had to be louder than me! I was so obnoxious! But it worked! I was competition! Did it to several big bands!

Disagree with those saying this song is about weed. People forget how clever this band is. It's a little red herring to throw people off with the Mary Jane thing. The song is about loving and leaving and not feeling too bad about it at all. Andy and Alex, your interpretation is on point. That was a fun reaction!

Perhaps you're starting to understand why our generation recalls fondly the music of our youth. We were blessed by various types of rock and we still wanted more. I truly feel the current generation will never truly understand how amazing the artists' were in the 60's 70's and 80's. Hopefully reaction sites like yours will continue to spread the music to the masses and perhaps it will trigger an explosion of artistic creativity that will seek to recapture the magic of the classic rock era.

Welcome to the world of Rick Davies. You've been listening to songs written by Roger Hodgson, who has the best pop sensibilities of the band, but Rick Davies is the soul and emotion of the band. There are two singers. with Roger having the higher voice and Rick the lower voice. That's why I think most of the hard core fans want you to do songs from Crime of the Century. Rick really shines on that album.

So it goes like this. 'Breakfast' songs are incredibly well crafted pop, a bit more accessible to mainstream music fans, great to listen to but probably not as impactful overall as their earlier work. 'Even in the Quietest Moments has more epic moments, with Fool's Overture leading the way. But Crime of the Century is the masterpiece, from start to finish. Years later, whenever they toured, they typically played all 8 songs from Crime. That just doesn't happen with normal albums.

But he was clear that he didn't play like Clapton a) because he couldn't play like Clapton and b) because he thought his melodic version sounds better (I agree). And one can't forget that Hodgson is also a solid keyboardist, where Dave had zilch. In also, Roger Hodgson was a tremendously talented bloke.

One of those perfect summer days, riding around, romance in that early exciting stage. It did, however, run through my head about 3/4th through the song, “Is he looking at me a little too intensely? Is he trying to give me a subliminal message and that this is only going to be a summer romance?” Just too perfect of a song and day to worry that much about it. The Wurlitzer had a harder tone. You could bang on a Wurlitzer. The Rhodes was more mellow. Jazz bands tended to use Rhodes and rock bands tended to use Wurlitzers. You also had the Hohner Pianet which John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin used. The Wurlitzer, Rhodes and Hohner all had hammers that struck tuning rods or reeds. There was also the RMI Electra Piano which used transistors instead of a hammer action. It's the sound of Deep Purple and Dream On by Aerosmith and Billy Preston with the Rolling Stones. All of these keyboards were used extensively in the seventies and are a HUGE part of the sound of seventies music. All of them were out of production by the mid-eighties. Once digital synths and samplers came in they were considered too heavy and temperamental. You didn't have to tune digital synths and samplers. But no digital synth sounds or plays like a real electric piano.

I graduated in 1980 and he died in 82 of leukemia & every time I hear Supertramp I think of him. You want to get a real appreciation of Supertramp you need to listen to give a little bit, bloody well right and my kind of lady. The saxophone work and my kind of lady is unreal at the end of it if you check it out lay your head back close your eyes and listen to the sax solo. It will rock your world

When they first moved here to the US from Tonga in 1970 he was in High School and this music is all they knew in Hawaii along with disco and reggae. Then moving here to Utah in 76 this is all they listened to. We grew up listening to my pops music and I'm so glad we did. I'm able to sit and talk with any OG about oldies, funk, mo town, classic rock and country. 💯✊🏾 Thanks for sharing guys!

Love this song and that you had such a great reaction to it! One thing about Supertramp is that their sound is uniquely theirs. No other group sounds anything like them. And they play with musical styles that are so vastly different from each other (like ragtime and doo-wop). So much creativity and talent. Next on the list should be ✅ “Bloody Well Right” and then the title track from this LP, ✅ “Breakfast in America.”
