- Your late model Harley, just like your late model car, has a "Check Engine" light somewhere on the instrument cluster. But unlike your car, you don't need an expensive diagnostic tool to find out why the Check Engine light is on!
In this edition of SouthernBikerTV How To, we demonstrate how to access the trouble codes in your bike's engine control unit (as well as how to access the other modules on the bike) AND talk a bit about what to do after you know what the code number is.

Just found the complete code list for HD 2004 to present. After viewing your video that helped me get the diagnostic codes on the bike, I was able to remember what performance changed while on the ride. I am now equipped with a bit more knowledge to talk with the tech. Thanks for taking the time to help out those of us that didn't know how to get to the codes.
I cant believe it was that simple. I had my code P0373 before the video was done. I have been out of touch with the newer bikes. I ride a XLCR1000 I have had 40 plus years and last year bought a really nice XL1200R. It started to run bad and shut off, miss, hesitate and now I have info as to where to start in getting it on the road. Thank you very much

I did some Upgrades to my 15 Street 750. Also used the V&H FP3. Which can also be used as a Scanner. I am not sure if the method shown in the Video would work on mine??

It's possible that the conditions causing the code still exist. Have you made any attempt at repair?

What if I have a battery light on my dash as well as the engine light on? Is there any codes to check for as well liked you showed us to check engine light?
If the battery light is on while the engine is running, my first thoughts turn to charging systems. Are you having any problem starting the bike?
Ok so I've found my code and part # which is P 0562 & part # 32999-11 & I checked the battery and have removed my voltage regulator
Bike does start ok and it shows the engine and battery light on my dash which shows the 2 codes I gave you, what next
@@claywoods2576 Here is the definition of the code:
"If the battery voltage fails to meet normal operating parameters, a code is set. When battery voltage at low RPM (2000 RPM) minus battery voltage at low RPM is less than 0.25 volts, then DTC P0562 is set after 100 counts (up to 15 seconds)."

HI is There any codes for the stock H/D CD or am/fm radio since the display all work fine just no sound whatsoever I have 2005 Road Glide FLTRI it just stop working i was playing a CD on accessory the motor was not running when I was done I turned the off the ignition next day no sound the display works fine Thank You

So dose the code go away automatically after fixing the problem?
It will after a time, or you can clear the codes using the cluster or by disconnecting the battery.
Thanks for the video . i have a 2016 softail . only 38 miles on it . it set storeage . cause i was unable to ride . i started the bike . often . went to start it up . the alarm had bike disabled . clear the alarm .. The bike want hit one time . ? What can i do to find out why ?

A little late seeing this. I took my battery out of my 2016 ultra limited this past fall. I put it back in today an 8 now have a low rng warning and the bike will not start. I’m pretty sure I put it away with a full tank but not positive. And ideas?
Need to be clear on what you mean by "no start". Does the engine turn over normally, slowly or not at all. For sure, the FIRST thing I'd do is make sure the battery is healthy. Watch this: ua-cam.com/video/gWpr2wsdvAw/v-deo.html

How do I check the codes on my 2000 Road King Classic EFI?
As far as I know, it's the same method as I shared here. With the key off, hold the odometer reset button down and then turn the key on.
good afternoon. can you tell me if the speedometer has a small consumption of 40mA with the bike turned off? there are no error codes. my bike is a fxst 2007. thank you very much if you reply.
Not sure, but that sounds high to me. Are you dealing with a battery drain issue?
@@SouthernBikerTV Thank you for answering my friend! Yes, the speedometer is consuming 40 milliamperes. in 4 days the battery fails. Turning off the spedometer connector the consumption stops!
@@carlmoren3953 Sounds like that's your problem. I had an aftermarket amp installed on my Street Glide that was killing mine.
@@petemeier2764 Okay, Pete Meier. I do not know if the speedometer has this consumption of 40mA normally .... but if I stay 3 days without turning on the bike the battery fails. thank you for commenting! hugs!

If you change your battery and leave it off for more than 5 days to mess up your computers
Will this reset the computer system ?
You can clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes but unless the problem has been repaired, the light will come back on.
