    Bought the Duo 2 months ago and they are excellent! Great value and quality - nice to see that confirmed.
    Great job on the review! Only thing I’d disagree with is the “non-replaceable battery” downside. This will never come up in practice, the battery will last for YEARS given that you hardly ever need to charge them.

    Just got the duo. It was much easier to set up with my Garmin tracker than my Vector 3’s. Longest time was fully charging the pedals every thing else was quick and easy. BTW, 50 hours and 25000 total hours to 20% degradation is just under 50 years at 10 hours a week. I’m sure other components and I will wear out faster.

    I have these and the bePRO on a couple of bikes. The bePROs are on a roadie with oval rings and power data accuracy has been spot on. Customer service while in Italy has been quick to respond and language is not a barrier to overcome. Had to ask a few questions, not try and resolve any problems.
    While I’m not affiliated with them, I highly recommend this brand for your power needs and the Assioma pedals have been very easy to switch between bikes.

    I have bought a pair of these about 3 to 4 months ago (duo's), they have been absolutely faultless, user friendly, long battery life, well water sealed electronics and battery and having several bikes, fit in perfectly to changing over from bike to bike easilly, can recommend them fully and completely changed my training effectiveness, without a power meter you are training blind.

    Thanks for your excellent review. I was shopping for a crank-based set-up, but there's nothing on the market for pre- Hollow-Tech cranksets, and I have Ultegra 6500. A pedal-based system is certainly easier to shift onto multiple bikes. If I ever decide to go with a more modern set-up, these will still work, and even if the batteries crap out after two years, for the 650 USD I paid, that's just $27/month to have accurate power data. All one has to do is NOT buy a coffee shop latte and a scone on a half dozen rides each month, and these are paid for. I thought I would never care about measuring my power output, but as it turns out, I do, mostly so I can determine how much I've got in me and can then mete it out over the duration of a ride.

    I’ve had these pedals for two years now. I’ve had no issues whatsoever with these. I use them with the KICKR trainer and the power always matches what comes out of the KICKR. The battery life is amazing. The only downside is the charging cable is so unique, I can’t just grab any old usb cable to charge them when I’m traveling. This review is why I bought them.

      Only bought my UNO today. But on the website you can purchase spares and replacement parts - cables, bodies, spindles. The unique cable is not a biggy when you consider they are water proof - you do not have to worry about water ingress shortening the life of your power meter.

    I've been riding the Duo's for more than two charge cycles. Both lasted 60H before I got the battery low message. Hereafter you have 8h before going dead. I tested that indoors and can verify this. These are currently THE BEST POWER pedals you can be. I have had zero issues - inside, outside, bike 1, bike 2 - doesn't matter. ALWAYS reliable, consistent and accurate. I really love these pedals. One tiny recommedation; use looks grip cleat. These are better than the supplied although the also do the job.

    As expected Assiomas turned out to be super solid. I'd really choose those over Powertap and Garmin. And I see built in battery as a strong point of these. They dodged a lot of problems with that decision. I wouldn't worry about battery life cycle as they require charging 10-20 times (?) per year. At this rate battery will easily outlast other components of the power meter.

    • @hgiusdfajgfds
      @hgiusdfajgfds 6 років тому

      Exactly. Sure batteries degrade with charge cycles, but if a standard cellphone is anything to go by, it's going to be a very long time before they're at, say, 50% capacity. Much rather that than having to deal with replaceable battery (cap) issues.

    I got the UNO version and I am pretty happy with them. Two litte issue I would like to mention, I was very surprised, that the included cleats got no axle mark, so it is a little bit guessing to adjust them. And the other thing is, that I have seen a variance of -15/-20 watt compared to the values of my Elite Direto in Zwift - I assume the reason is my paddeling technique.

    • @aluminey
      @aluminey 6 років тому

      Same here with uno compared to direto. Its same at 150-200 watts, at 250-300 about 10-15 watts less that direto and 300-350 15-20 watts. But different in power is consistent, so no problem here.

    Would you recommend a pedal power meter over a crank power meter?
    Much appreciated!

    • @gplama
      @gplama  5 років тому

      It depends. Pedals are MUCH easier to install and are a lot more compatible with things. Cranks require bottom bracket matching, crank lengths, and frame clearance. There's pros and cons of each. Pedal power meters are really easy to install now though.

      I will, recommend pedal over crank due to the fact you can use them in any bike

    Hello,
    I have a pair of Assioma pedals for over 2 years now and have been pleased with them. I did have to get new bodies as the bearings disintegrated and embedded themselves into the plastic.
    The pedals have been paired to Wahoo Bolt v1 and have been fine. I replaced the Bolt v1 with the v2 because it’s shiny and has colours. :slight_smile: However, on a ride if I have stopped for over the 5 minute shut off and start off again I have no power reading. I carried on with the ride but noticed the left pedal lights are completely off, but the right pedal lights are fine. The only way to get the pedals to wake up is to connect them to the usb charger. Now, it doesn’t happen every time and I thought it was related to BLE connecting instead of ANT+, but I made sure the Bolt is connecting via ANT+. I seem to have fewer dropouts when the Wahoo companion app is not opened as it connects to the pedal via BLE.
    Favero has analysed the pedal data and concluded the left pedal’s battery is faulty causing random shutdown, but my experience is that it only started with a change of head unit. By the way, the cost of replacement is over 200 Euro.
    Does anyone else have similar problems? Any help is much appreciated.

    • @gplama
      @gplama  2 роки тому

      I'd take their word for it. If the battery is faulty then it'll occur with other head units too. Maybe borrow one from a friend and test this.

    • @ChewyWahid

      @@gplama Thanks for the response, but it only started with the new head unit. I'll keep monitoring the situation ensuring the Wahoo app or any other is not trying to connect with the pedals. Furthermore, it only occurs when stopped AND with other riders present, which may mean possible BLE issues? We shall see... thanks Tuhin

    Thorough review, thx. Technically speaking, when the rechargeable batteries die, the option exists to replace the pedal axle with new ones sold by Favero. They cost less than new pedals, but the way engineering and products progress it's doubtful replacement would be the best option. I am very pleased with mine. Just recharged for the second time since purchase logging 98 hrs. So, the 50 hr/charge spec seems to be accurate.

    Thanks for the review. Can the DUO be used as 2x UNOs? LHS on 1 bike and RHS om another bike. Would it still function or do the need to sync to work?

  • @Denitza-Art
    @Denitza-Art 6 років тому +1

    Hi Shane,
    If you use the DUO with Viiiiva HRM as a bridge does Zwift read it as half power (one pedal) or does it calculate both pedals? I can't find the answer to that anywhere. Makes me wonder if it's worth getting both or is it just better to stick with the UNO when it comes to using the pedals indoor with apps (Zwift / Trainer Road). Please let me know if you can. Thanks!

    • @gplama
      @gplama  6 років тому

      Good question! It’ll take the combined LR ANT+ channel and transmit that as Bluetooth. You’ll need to use this bridge each time which can be another step in getting up and riding.

    Great video, any idea if I ca throw these on a Peloton Bike and get them to work with Swift, or is there more to it than that?

    • @gplama

      Maybe, if the Peloton bike has standard threaded pedals. It's still a non-smart bike though.

    Good Morning. great help you gave, good continuation of videos. and keeps going. but I would like to clear some doubts. 1 the batteries are not addicted after 2 years of training hours? do you sell the batteries separately? or do I have to buy other pedals ?. did anyone from the comments happen this?

      The batteries on the original pair I have are still holding charge and have no issues. They don't sell the batteries separately, they are part of the spindle/meter and can't be removed.

    Hi Mr Llama. I have really wide feet (43.5 wide using Bonts). Is my foot likely to rub against the pod or is there plenty of room there? I can't find any comments on this on the interweb. Thanks

      You can see left/right balance, pedal smoothness, torque effectiveness... and now the Assioma support Cycling Dynamics. If you have a newer Garmin Edge unit you'll be able to see all that pedal analysis data in real-time and in post activity. To answer your question, you'll get the data from both left and right but it depends on the software you use to analyse the files.

    It appears all the magic of the pedals is protected between the pedal and the crank, considering this, do you think the Assioma pedals would have a higher probability of survival in a RUNA (rapid unplanned negative acceleration [aka: crash]) vs other pedal designs? It looks like if you were to even hit the pedal on a turn, the power meter would be fine, compared to other designs. Any thoughts?

    Hi Shane, first of all thanks for your helpful reviews.
    I would like to know if you tried to instal a Power Meter Pedals into an Spinning Bike.
    Does it make any sense? Do you think it could be helpful? Even if it's not 100% accurate/reliable could it work to have a measurement to start with? I've an old Keiser M3 bike at home (this bike tells you power, but it does not count it quite accurate and it has NO connection at all) and my Favero Assioma Duo.
    Thanks,

    • @gplama
      @gplama  4 роки тому +1

      If the spin bike has the same thread as a standard bike, they'll be all good. You need to set the crank length for them correctly though for accurate power.

    Hi, firstly this is a great review especially when combined with the recent firmware update video. I'm looking at the Assioma Duo but my only concern is the Look Keo based cleats. I've Shimano SPD SL Dura Ace on 3 bikes and what's putting me off is I'll lose the ability to just grab my shoes and ride any of the bikes (I live in Ireland so I change bike based on very regular weather swings, wet/dry/too wet so indoor). So if I accept that I might use 2 pairs of shoes, one with Look and the other SPD-SL cleats on them then the deciding factor will be how the Look system compares to a Shimano Dura Ace pedal in terms of engagement, release and feel of the pedals. Can you comment on the pedal comparison outside of power measurement?

    • @gplama
      @gplama  3 роки тому

      Thanks for dropping by John. I run fixed (grey) cleats for the Assioma, so I like a rock solid platform with a SNAPPY clip in and out. These have been fine for me. Never unclipped in a maximal sprint outside... and never slipped on my a*** walking in them.
      Side Note: The Assioma don't use a Look Keo cleat, they use a slightly modified cleat and call it "Look Keo Compatible" (I'll cover this in more detail in a video soon).....
      RE: Switching between bikes, the Assioma use an Xpedo Thrust NXL pedal body. So if you want to use Assioma on one bike and have compatible pedals on other bikes, you can pick those up for your other bikes.

      @@gplama Thanks to your great Favero reviews I took delivery of a set of Duo today! cant wait to start using them. Setting them up was a breeze, now I just need to get the cleats in a similar position to my old SPD-SL ones. Thanks again Shane for the help.
