Excellent review even if it was the tip of the iceberg from the last 12 months! These pedals are superb! If I was in the market for one, this is top of the list. Shimano, lol, ball in your court is too kind!
Assioma, accurate, rock solid and not too pricey. Another one that will sell well I imagine. Wonder if the electronics in the spindle will come to their road pedals dispensing with the pod next to the cranks? I still love my assioma duos four plus years after getting them and the built in battery lasts for ages between charges.
My second pair of faveros just got an expedo upgrade. I went with CXR’s this time which are almost as wide as shimano pedals but not these! These look as stable as xtr feels . The expedo titanium body’s where so slim they barley gave anything to stand on and did not last long. Its very cool favero thought of that and provide affordable replacement’s. About a year ago expedo was sold out of all pedals that could be used for faveros and I ended up wearing road shoes all summer. I was clip clopping in and out of offices and always got looks. Everyone assumed I was someone wearing heels and not a delivery driver dropping off packages. 😅

I don't expect that to happen. The spindle and the two bearings on the Eggbeaters are lubricated through the end cap, so they would have to completely redesign those pedals to accept the Assioma's MX internals.

Great review as always 🥇. One question- how does the stack height compare with an Xtr pedal? Shimano quote 15.1mm stack height but I’m guessing that’s including the sh51 cleat (approx 6mm).

This is exactly what i've been waiting for, and I'm shopping for new pedal/PM setup as we speak; _however_ I need a slightly wider Q-factor (as do many) and hoped these would have that, like some of the Shimano SPD / SQLabs /Crankbrother platforms and the Duo-Shi. Alas this would probably yet again require solid spacers, which have some issues.... fk
This new PRO max uses needle bearings. The only way to make a spd sl powermeter pedal is to use shimanos own pedal bodies due to patents I believe. So it would be hard to make the bearing set up work. I think a look system would be possible though?
Looks like an excellent product Shane. Hopefully Favero will release an updated Duo Shi SPD-SL system with a normal Q factor in the not too distant future. 🤞🏼🙏🏼

Got the Rally XC100 about a month ago at a 400 USD price instead of the usual whopping 700 USD MSRP Garmin is asking for it. Considering that almost none of my local retailers have it the chance to get it means the options for a reasonable discounted price are limited. So this new pedal should hopefully open up the SPD power-meter pedal market a bit for those that want it.
where did you get this deal. Considering getting X100 anways since availability will take a while and hopefully garmin drops their pants on the XC now there's some competition
Duo Shi’s started going crazy after a few years, with refurbishing after one year. Hope these last longer. Do you know if these have two bearings, one at each end of the pedal body?
Other than left /right balance info, there does not seem much to gain in going for duos. Everything is within a few watts and repeatable with the single sided systems or unos etc. Am I missing something. Most of the time I am looking at training repeatability, the numbers could be anything as long as repeatable. OK sure it is nice to know how you stack up against others I guess, but even the one sided solution is offering fantastic accuracy beyond drive chain loss.
Just ordered a pair today and looking forward to switch between my mtb and gravel bike. They will replace my stages. Just one question: Does anyone know about the internal battery in case of failure or age (now sure how many charging cycles they are good for)? Do they offer a "replacement kit" or something similar? Edit: ordered on Tuesday, arrived 1day later in Germany 👍
Definitely going to get a set of the MX2's! On a different note... how do you like the Pirelli tires? Waiting (patiently...) on a backordered set of Scorpion XC RC tires.
Shane, thank you for your excellent content. Do you think the release of this pedal power meter might suggest they now have a new design that could be the basis of a proper Shimano road pedal power meter with a standard 53ish Q-factor? I’m going to buy these pedals for my gravel bike that has an affected R8000 crank and a Stages L/R power meter. I need a solution for my Road bike with the same crank/power meter problem and would like the same manufacturer.
Those still look mint after your testing. Did you experienced some pedal hits on rocks or roots? That's something that I am afraid will ruin the expensive SPDs on the mountain bike.
I made sure to film these before they were beaten up too much outside. They've been holding up well so far. I guess time will tell once these start hitting the market in their 1000s.
Hi Shane, how do you find installation and removal of these pedals? Recently 8mm hex is de-facto standard but this pedals requires pedal wrench or spanner. That can be a deal breaker for me. I think nobody is really able to properly torque them... though I do have pedal wrench torque adaptor which I hate to use. (need torque conversion or calc so never be accurate, like you do with ChatGPT.) Also I have really bad experience from spanner to remove pedals. Cutting hands by chainring when removing pedals, or strip pedal axle. With dedicated pedal wrench the angle of torquing is quite safe but it's really hard to source outside my house a day before event, so probably will use such as 17cm spanner as you do in the video. I am simply terrified by it... And powermeter is in pedal axle so I don't wanna strip it.
Zero issues installing and removing these with an open wrench. 🔧 Here’s the best technique (just adjust for the open wrench vs hex): ua-cam.com/video/qTtxoheAG10/v-deo.html
@@gplama Thanks. I do have long dedicated pedal wrench but it's not portable so probably will purchase shorter one to make the technique works (I don't think it works with non-angled wrench). Just ordered Pro MX-2. Wish they work good for me too.
I’ll wait at least one year for real life user feedback and all issues being ironed out since moving away from pods makes the a revolution not an evolution. But they do look like a sweet update. When measuring power do you record 1 per sec or do you set it to automatic? In my experience 1 per sec leads to pretty significant gaps in recorded values.
I might have missed it in the “getting ready for school noise” mate, but do you know when/where are they going to be available on our shores in Australia mate? I was about to get the Garmin XC 200’s, thank god I seen this and Ray’s video last night.
No indication when they’ll be available here in Australia. FE Sports would be the best to ping. Direct should still be an option if you want to roll the dice with customs/duty fees.
Hi Shane do you have a video comparing the readings of a dual powermeter vs a single sided one? i know dual is more accurate but is there a big difference in the accuracy?
Single sided is accurate for what it measures. That being just the left side. If you’re 50/50 balanced at all times on the bike (nobody is), it’ll be spot on. For everything else you’ll have a power number that’ll be pretty close to what you’re doing, but you can never be sure. There’s a whole can of worms here that gets opened and argued about on forums.
Any thoughts on how these compare to SRM X-Power? I can see the Assioma beat the SRM on price and battery life, but there are of course other considerations, too.
Oh I’m across issues with the Garmin XC. I’m hoping Garmin gets back to me before my Pro MX vs Rally XC video… it’ll be all very one sided at the moment.
Do you have any experience or qualified guesses about how well these will hold up against regular impacts against rocks, logs etc while riding when it comes to retaining accuracy?
Seems to be a great option. The only question mark is durability of the pretty exposed charging contacts. How do power pedals stack up in terms of durability against crashes compared to crank based solutions?
SRM made a running change to their X-Power SPD pedals about 12 months ago, iirc. I believe it was to address issues with the spindle. Time will tell with these PRO MX. No issues for me to date with the charging.
I wanted these and the website says out of stock. How stupid is that? They say they will release today and they don’t have any stock. Why not just wait to release them until you’ve built them? I guess it gives me time to shop around for different options. These look nice but it’s such a tease 😛
Assioma app, Apple update or specific to the pedal type? That data would be good to see for us with knee issues and trying to develop better pedalling mechanics.
Something was up with auto-pause on the 840. It lost 10 minutes of time but still recorded all the data/distance. Another reason some overall averages are a poor indication of performance (and why I’ll always drill into sections).
Favero are claiming stack height is 11.2 mm yet Shimano states their XTR is 15.1 mm. Does that seem correct to you? Also how did you find the stability of the pedals? (mtb shoes use the tread to engage with the pedal body and provide lateral stability, my Sworks shoes were rubbish with Shimano spd pedals as the tread blocks were too short to engage with the pedal and I had to swap to eggbeaters where I can adjust them with the pedal contact sleeves).
Stack height for SPD pedals is a weird one. I think some companies include the cleat and measure from the centre of the spindle to the top of the cleat (where the shoe starts).
So that would make Faveros true stack height as 17.9 mm. That's quite a tall pedal when reviewers complain about Time mtb pedals having a high stack height. Thanks both for clearing that up.
Anyone else experience issues when paired via BLE? Mine oddly enough when paired to my forerunner 965 over ble had a very odd behavior where power will broadcast for approx 70 seconds, then transmit 0 watts for exactly 2 minutes, and repeat. Move everything over to ant+ and don't see that behavior (which is fine by me, I'd rather use ant+ anyway). Curious. Great pedals though.
The level I'm digging into here is typically at the level of "does it work" rather than "how does it work". Peak Torque may have applied a more engineering focus within his review. I've got it lined up now to watch.

I need a solution for my Road bike with the same crank/power meter problem and would like the same manufacturer.
I really hope that's on their product timeline.
@@gplama I think they say "Hope" is not a strategy...
(need torque conversion or calc so never be accurate, like you do with ChatGPT.)
Also I have really bad experience from spanner to remove pedals.
They seem to be out of stock everywhere?
I’m guessing they’re yet to open preorder.
I’ll wait at least one year for real life user feedback and all issues being ironed out since moving away from pods makes the a revolution not an evolution. But they do look like a sweet update.
When measuring power do you record 1 per sec or do you set it to automatic? In my experience 1 per sec leads to pretty significant gaps in recorded values.
doesnt matter, always 1s is the recording rate in the FIT file with powermeter (in Garmins)
@@andraslukoviczki519 since you added "(in Garmins)" are there other devices which can record continuous power riding outdoors?
I might have missed it in the “getting ready for school noise” mate, but do you know when/where are they going to be available on our shores in Australia mate? I was about to get the Garmin XC 200’s, thank god I seen this and Ray’s video last night.
No indication when they’ll be available here in Australia. FE Sports would be the best to ping. Direct should still be an option if you want to roll the dice with customs/duty fees.
@@gplama legend. Thanks Shane. I’ve looked on the Favero website and all out of stock.
Hi Shane, will you be covering the Taipei Bike Show this year?
I won’t be at the show this year. I’ll cover what I can remotely though. I’ll be at Eurobike later in the year.
Any information if PCO is comming to the Assioma DUOs as well by firmware update?
Or is the feature only avalible with the new spindle?
No indication. I suspect they’ll keep PCO in the Pro product only.
@@gplamaso what your staying is new road pedal is coming? I know your can't say anything
Any thoughts on how these compare to SRM X-Power? I can see the Assioma beat the SRM on price and battery life, but there are of course other considerations, too.
I’ve reviewed the first generation of those. Not great.
Will the live feature be useable with the old assioma’s? I tried to see if it was there and it doesn’t appear to be.
Unlikely to be ported to the Assioma DUO/UNO.
Do they work with Apple Watch ? Thank you
im crying insdie
i bougth the garmin version 2,5 months ago , i never had anyproblem with favero pedals i cant say the same about garmin.
Oh I’m across issues with the Garmin XC. I’m hoping Garmin gets back to me before my Pro MX vs Rally XC video… it’ll be all very one sided at the moment.
@@gplama oh boy i cant wait for that video and to be able to hulksmash the like button harder then ever before :P :D
Have you had many pedal strikes on these pedals? How did they hold up and how has the power data been after such strikes? Thanks!
Here's the follow-up video you're after: ua-cam.com/video/PSvFC8VYQVY/v-deo.html
Do you have any experience or qualified guesses about how well these will hold up against regular impacts against rocks, logs etc while riding when it comes to retaining accuracy?
Working on a video right now on this, including a solid rock strike captured close-up. No issues with power.
@@gplama Awsome!
Seems to be a great option. The only question mark is durability of the pretty exposed charging contacts. How do power pedals stack up in terms of durability against crashes compared to crank based solutions?
Recessed and Gold plated so should be fairly bullet proof
@@getur99 But also no cover and exposed to grinding paste like mud. I hope they had testers in cyclocross.
SRM has a similar solution on their pedals. The contacts mean nothing but trouble for me.
When will these be available in Australia? Can find stock anywhere
They’ll be available direct before they hit retail stores here.
Assioma app, Apple update or specific to the pedal type? That data would be good to see for us with knee issues and trying to develop better pedalling mechanics.
To see those new metrics in real-time you'll need the PRO MX and the Assioma app or a Garmin Edge that supports ANT+ Cycling Dynamics.
@@gplama ah nuts, if only they made it backwards compatible, at the rate they update the app we'll see that in 3 years 🤔
why was there an overall difference of 16w for the ballarat classic?
Shimano XTR is 8.4mm without cleats, the same way that Favero measure.
15.1mm might be number include cleats.
So that would make Faveros true stack height as 17.9 mm. That's quite a tall pedal when reviewers complain about Time mtb pedals having a high stack height. Thanks both for clearing that up.
Sigey axo or mx1 pro?
Anyone else experience issues when paired via BLE? Mine oddly enough when paired to my forerunner 965 over ble had a very odd behavior where power will broadcast for approx 70 seconds, then transmit 0 watts for exactly 2 minutes, and repeat.
Move everything over to ant+ and don't see that behavior (which is fine by me, I'd rather use ant+ anyway). Curious. Great pedals though.
Someone reported a similar issue on the TrainerRoad forums. Double check the crank length is set the same on the watch and bike computer.
How do Assioma calculate the tangential force?
The level I'm digging into here is typically at the level of "does it work" rather than "how does it work". Peak Torque may have applied a more engineering focus within his review. I've got it lined up now to watch.
Why is the bike so heavy? Because of the amount of power meters and headunits :D
Anyone know when they'll be back in stock on their website?
They're listing around two months on their website. You can sign up to be notified when they have them here: cycling.favero.com/en/shop/assiomapromx2
No squeak hmm? Won't be swapping these by my Garmins anytime soon then, I'd miss those 2 little birds that come with me every ride chirping away.

Is there a road version?
Not in the Pro range at this point.
