    I love my Assioma Duos (had them for about a year and a half now), they're super reliable. I agree with some of the other comments on here that the pedals are too "spinny", though. Even after using them for a long time, I still struggle to clip in on the road sometimes - my old Shimano pedals were much easier to clip into. The new Wahoo speedplay PowerLink pedals look great but they're too expensive for what they are, imo.

      Same here. Have the assiomas for about 2 years now and it's still not completely intuitive to clip in. I used shimano pedals on a rental bike last holidays and it felt like I never stopped using shimano. But I still love the assioma and haven't regret the purchase.

      100% this. PLUS: The customer support from Favero is incredible. Fast and alwaays helpful in case anything ever comes up. Also pair reliably with hammerhead, garmin and trainerroad on ipad and iphone.

    i have speedplays already but my other powermeter decided to die so looking into pedal options. heres what ive learned so far through research
    favero tells you how long the battery life will last before it starts to degreade and its user servicable.
    wahoo says "well it depends" and you cant service the bearings if they ever need maintenance.
    favero lists the max power it gets tested to, wahoo does not.
    Q factors are about the same.
    look style cleats are typically easier to come across if youre in the middle of a ride and have an issue like a cleat breaks. speedplay style cleats still can have cleat failures as ive had one myself mid sprint when the metal clip broke. pedal into the shin giving 1998 flashbacks as a kid. all cleats can break im just saying the metal speedplay ones arent free of failures.
    wahoo claims the bearings are fully sealed, as a mechanic i can promise you fully sealed does not mean will never fail.
    you might look at favero claiming 500 charging cycles and think well thats not that many. but a charging cycle is ~50 hours. or 25,000 hours in total use before the capacity starts to decline. that means you probably only get 40 hours on a charge now......which is still pretty dam good since i dont think anyones riding 40 hours a week here and 25k hours is 20 hours a week for 24 years.....i ride 8-12 a week! that means i should get roughly 500 months or a touch over 41 years before the battery life is the issue!
    my big takeaway while researching is wahoo doesnt even claim a battery life span. thats a big out from them in terms of warranty or standing behind their product. the other glaring issue for me is the inability to service them. bearings do eventually wear out, youll end up with a broken ball/needle or a worn out race and the bearing simply wont work like its supposed to. with the wahoo that means sending in your pedal, letting them do the work (if they even replace them), or replacing the pedal as a whole. youre likely out of your pedals for multiple weeks and paying someone to work on or replace them. while uncommon i can say i got caught in a massive storm once, turns out i couldnt beat it, flooded street literally pushed all the grease out of my pedal bearing. with the old speedplays i was able to regrease and theyre still fine to this day. cant do that with the wahoo powerlink pedals. ive had cartridge bearings go out on wheel sets, 20 bucks and a homemade bearing press and i was good to go again. cant do that with wahoo powerlink pedals.
    like you said, wahoo wants to keep you in their ecosystem. and while they make good things my interactions with their products and their customer service has been up and down. gen 2 kickr? pretty great, but the cable is damaged and they wont tell me how to fix it (i know how its just annoying that they wont provide the diagram) bolt? good, untill the button covers started coming off leading to an eventual water ingress ruining the screen, wouldnt even talk about taking care of it unless you have the original receipt (if thats the case lemme register the thing online, paper is outta date) those two things make me think they look for ways out of warranty work or helping out the consumer in general.
    at the end of the day ill go favero moving forward, while i wont throw out my speedplay pedals as theyre pretty great im disappointed wahoo bought them out and made them more of a pain in the ass. id be more willing to stick with speedplay if it didnt seem like wahoo put money a few steps higher on their priority list then the consumer using their products.

    Good video. I own the Assioma pedals - I think they're fantastic and at a great price.
    One comment on your video... I don't think your weight comparison is fully correct. I think you need to include cleat weight and pedal weight together to give the full story.

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  2 роки тому

      That is true and I thought about including mine. But since everyone uses different cleats, didn’t think it would be that useful of information. So I just included the pedal weight per spec.

    • @fiddleronthebike
      @fiddleronthebike 3 місяці тому

      @@SmartBikeTrainers the opposite is true - it's useless to give the weight without cleats because you cannot use the pedals without them; and btw, wether you use Assioma or Look Keo cleats doesn't matter, they are about the same - but the Wahoo/Speedplay cleats with the needed 3-bolt-to-4-bolt-adapter are WAY heavier. So when you compare the overall weight the Wahoo system is significantly heavier than the Assioma (or Assioma/Shimano)

    Nice review (as always!). Admit I’m wondering why I’d get either of these vs a 4iiii Precision for half the cost. With 4iiii I can use whatever cleat system I want, no recharging hassle, no Q-factor issues, equally accurate (according to specs), and it only weighs 9 grams. And save several hundreds of dollars. I guess if I have two bikes I can move the pedals between bikes, but I could literally equip two bikes with 4iiii on each at the same cost and save the pedal switch hassle (and use different cleats on road vs mountain).

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  2 роки тому +1

      The battery life is pretty good with the 4iiii and you can possibly save a few hundred dollars. But depending on your components, 4iiii can end up costing you more. Can’t speak on accuracy as I haven’t tested it. Thank for the feedback and watching 🙏🏼

    Excellent video. I have the Assiomas. They are great. I just really dislike how they rock/swing prior to clipping in. I never got used to it. Other than that they are really nice. The Wahoo multiple Bluetooth channels would be a nice to have for sure.

    • @yuriyuen411
      @yuriyuen411 2 роки тому

      I use Speedplay and they are basically impossible when new with their standard tension cleats since you cannot adjust the tension level the only way is the break them in. After they are broken in you will also need to wash the pedal n cleats frequently because once they are dirty they will not clip in at all

    Nice video and quality content - as always. thank you! Currently, I use Quarq power meter on my tt bike and wife's road bike, and stages (single crank) on my road bike. I have never tried pedals power meter. I understand there is a convenience factor (i.e. changing bikes, etc.,) Question for you: would you prefer/recommend crank power (i.e. Quarq) vs. pedal power (i.e. Favero) - or would you say it's the same? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  2 роки тому +3

      The argument between pedal base and crank based PM was mainly the type of cleats. Pedal based are so good these days and we have plenty of options to choose from. Personally I would pick pedals over cranks any day for the convenience alone.

    As I like Wahoo very much.
    I don't understand the development of the Wahoo single sided power pendals.
    If they cut this development the dubbel sided are (cheaper) ?:)
    But the Assioma option of buy the second one later is cool.
    Oh I seen a ring between the crank and pendals you showing is that out the box ?
    Maybe it's better that way because of the torque settings....

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  2 роки тому +1

      There is a spacer that you can use between the crank and pedals which I generally use but you don’t have to depending on the type of cranks you have.
      The single pedal option is there as a cheaper alternative. I’m sure Wahoo will introduce and upgrade kit eventually as supply become more available. But for now it doesn’t exist unfortunately. Thank you for watching 🙏🏼

      Head units generally connect via ANT+ so you should have a BLE channel open to connect to the Apple Watch. As far as Zwift, the power meters will connect to Zwift but if you use Bluetooth then you won’t be able to connect to Apple Watch unless you get the PowrLink pedals Hope that helps.

    Just a quick question for you, what is the weight of the cleats? the pedals may be 20g or so different but the look cleats are very light, however i bet the speedplay cleats which have so much more to them are considerably heavier, i don't have any so i don't know but the the cleat should be considered a part of the pedal and its weight.
