Thank you, sir. My daddy lied about his age in 1945 (he was 17) just so he could join the United States Marine Corp. He shipped out 2 weeks after getting married to my mom and wrote her letters every chance he had. He was a young man who volunteered to fight for our Country, then came back and was married to my mom for 48 years, til the day he died. I love you, pops. Semper Fi.

Wow! What an honor to get to meet that man!
There are wartime military people all the way back in my family history. My father was in one of the first units that left for Europe to fight in World War 2. For the length of the war, the mechanized/medical infantry troop that he was part of, followed General Patton. Near the end, he was stationed in Italy, during what he always called "The Occupation," during the time the allied troops were helping them get back to "normal." That time, by the way, is what Dan Vasc's video "Smoking Snakes" (a Sabaton cover) is all about. If you get to the chance to react to it, that would be great.

Marine Corps wife here! I’ve seen this video so many times and that last shot of the young Marine behind the older Marine makes me tear up every time I see it. My husband deployed a total of 4x, Kosovo, Iraq once and Afghanistan twice. It was tough and heart wrenching at times, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I participated in events that I’ll never forget such as what was called Jane Wayne Day.” A tiny glimpse into our Marine’s day at work. There’s a saying in the Marine Corps that “If the Marine Corps wanted him to have wife, they would’ve issued him one.” We’re also told “Being a Marine wife is the toughest job in the Corps.” Thanks for the reaction, it’s nice to see someone show respect for the Marines.

I literally saw that opening scene. We lined up single file and ascended a couple of steps and entered a trailer containing a row of barber chairs. A recruit with long hair (it was '68) down his back sat down and the barber asked "How do you want it?" and you could literally see the hope and relief on the brand new soldier's face as he made his request. The first pass of the shears was right down the middle leaving behind a 5 o'clock shadow. I still remember that soldier's name.
"Til The Last Shot's Fired" is another good one by Trace.

Yes... anytime you see a bumper sticker that has USMC on it, its one of us.... my daughters used to call us "the Marine Mafia" because we can spot each other, smile and give a slight nod, because we're Family. You won't always be a doctor or a lawyer, or anything else, but you earned the title MARINE, and its yours forever. By the way, a Leather collar was part of the uniform in the Revolution, to protect from saber cuts, and they were called "Jarheads, because they always wore their covers (Hats) straight and upright, unlike the army that wore theirs a bit to the side. As to the "Devildog" name, that came from WWI, when the Marines refused to back down from the Germans, and they swore the Marines were not men, but hell's hounds coming to destroy them.

Trace has done so many fantastic songs! Especially for the military! Yes semper fi is the marine motto short version translated always faithfull
And leatherback, devil dogs, and jarheads are all nivk names for marines emerging after various battles and wars.
And Paris Island is a famous Marie recruit training facility in South Caroline. So Paris Island- already top standards tough in July! Really hot! Semper fi!
I loved this one from trace because it was respect and celebratory. BUT my favorite is in the same vein as Arlington. Its called till the last shots field. YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS ONE.
Ps - if you do- nit sure how much us history you got so the 1st verse is the last year if the American Civil War, the 2nd is d-day ww2
Fantastic story man! I love thst pic too!!
I knew 2 ww2 vets. The first one i met in church where my family joined and he was a very nice man named Mr rose. He had a really bad stutter though and we assumed he had always had it. But eventually we found out that wasn't true. He wasn't born with it. He was a ww2 vet who had been a German pow camp. After suffering there for a long time, When the allies were close the guards threw open the gates and forced them to run. He must have been expecting to hear shits every moment he fled across that field. Whatever happened to him in there...he can back with the stutter. But he came back, he lived a giid life, he took care of his own and was kind to others. I don't think he ever talked about it, it was a different generation but he was not weak by any means! He carried alot and he was the real deal.
The 2nd Mr Jerry I only knew for a few months. When my mom and I joined a new church after moving. He and his wife came to dinner. They told us where they grew up, how they met. Such a sweet couple. And he told us how he bad been in the military during ww2 and participated in d-day. He said he had originally been part of an assignment with some other men who had orders to go the night before with the goal of setting of and destroying some of the million mines on the beach. (Something i didnt even know had hapoened prior to d-day) At the last minute he was pulled from that group and needed for something else. Being reassigned allowed him to eventually come home to his childhood sweetheart. None of the men from that 1st op survived. He was one if the most noble, sweetest, loving men i ever met. And I was shocked when he died only a few weeks later, but it was a privilege to meet him and to listen to his story.

You are correct about what we can do, and get used to for that matter, when duty demands it. I'm a retired Marine and multi-time combat veteran. Trace Adkins actually came out and performed a concert at a small special forces base I was at in Afghanistan. He's a true patriot... Semper Fidelis!!!

So...as a Marine for 12 years let's get the vernacular straight. Leathernecks refers to the time when Marines wore leather neck guards to protect against sword strikes, which is why we wear the straight collar on our dress blues. The term jargead comes front the traditional "high and tight" hair cut Marines wear, there's no hair to grab in combat and looks like a jar top. The term DEVILDOG came frome the German army during WW I in Belleau Wood were the Marines fought so tenaciously the German troops reported that they were fighting "Teufelhunds" or dogs from hell. We have served in every "Climb and place where we could take a gun" and history has PROVEN we are the finest fighting force in the world. Thank you for showing this video and ....SEMPER FI

As an ex Navy guy, I seem to know a lot about my Marine brothers
The guys with the rifles and in dress blues are the Silent Rifle Platoon. The one with them and the plane flying over. The plane is a USMC C-130 named Fat Albert and travels with The Blue Angels. It carries the maintenance crews and their tools and parts.

I wanted to be a Marine with every fiber of my being. I was robbed of that privilege by a disability. When I was in high school, I told a recruiter that I knew I couldn't run, jump, etc. well and that I knew what would happen to me over there, but I absolutely did not care. My fate did not matter to me one bit. I just wanted to serve. I will mourn that dream until the day I die. A friend gave me a tie clip from his uniform and told me I would have been a good Marine. I will carry that gift with me every day of my life. To those that I could not call my brothers and sisters, thank you from the very depth of my soul.

There were more US Army Air Force men KIA, WIA, and POWs in Europe than all the Marines in all the battles in the Pacific. I'm taking nothing from their contributions but trying to bring some reality very few are aware of. SO! Semper Fly from the Air Force

While that may be true.......what is also true is that the USMC has always been a smaller branch than the others, significantly so. At the time that I served, there were less than 300,000 Marines in total in the Fleet Marine Force. Fewer members means fewer deaths as a percentage of the total number of Marines compared to percentages of the totals of the other branches. So...there is that, one could also say that fewer deaths for them may be a result of training in more skillsets vs more narrowed skill focused training in other branches and officers that are more conservative with their resources compared to the officers of others branches. When you are working with less than your compatriots and the fact that the Marine Corps has historically been supplied with the "hand-me-downs" from the other branches when their equipment got upgraded with newer equipment, you kinda have to take a different approach than your compatriots.

My son left for Marine boot camp 8 days after turning 18. He went to Iraq twice- the first time at age 19. I remember him calling and asking about being buried at Arlington because he had to write a will-- just in case.
He was in for 10 years. A great military organization.

My cousin returned in a box draped in old glory and is forever immortalized on a black marble wall in our nations capital. My grandfather served in the Marines for 24 years. Fought in both Korean and Vietnam wars. Agent Orange they used to kill vegetation in Vietnam ultimately caught up with him and shit down his organs on his 60’s. Not a day went by where he didn’t fly an American flag with his Marines flag. RIP Master Gunnery Sgt. Donald Bruin.

A Marine veteran told me leather neck is from the days of fighting with swords and daggers -- Marines wore leather collars to protect their necks. Jar heads is from Marines saying that, after enlisting, their heads were screwed off, their brains removed and kept in a jar, only to be returned when they leave the service. During World War II German soldiers called U.S. Marines devil dogs due to their fierce fighting. He also said Paris Island is hot in July, and its a tough place to get basic training.

I have spent 40 years working in manufacturing industries, some of that supplying equipment, armament, and other things to the armed forces of the US and her allies. But, when I die, my biggest regret will be that I do not share this brotherhood, this devotion, this love for my comrades. My family has a long history of service, I just offered mine in a different, much smaller way.
Thank you to all who have served in any way. I stand 6 feet tall, but I always look up to you when we meet.
