Military songs always kind of chokes me up because I am sensitive soul and strong supporter of the armed forces. But it really hit me when he said, "I'm in the fields of Vietnam, the mountains of Afghanistan" because my great grandfather is still, is still, reported as missing in action from the Korean War. My grandmother goes to the service in Washington DC every year to see if he'd been found so she can lay him to rest finally. Mind you my grandmother never met her father because he was deployed before she was born and now over 70 year later, she's still waiting. And I really do fear that she'll pass away before he's ever brought home and she's asked me in recent years if I'd take up her place of going when she gets too weak to travel and that just humbles me. The echos of war really ring through the years and their effects can trickle down through the generations.

When I was little I wanted to join the military, myself... I couldn't - I have an uncorrectable vision problem- but I come from a long line of military men that span at least two continents (dad was first gen American on his mother's side, her brother died in ww2, her dad fought in ww1 - For England).
Both of my grandfathers fought in ww2, my dad & my mom's brother both served in Vietnam. Dad in the Army - like his father... uncle was a Marine - like his father.
They're all gone now, but on their behalf and mine, thank you for your service... Billy & any other active duty, reservist, or vet who reads this.

Ok so, I’m crying at another of your reactions! My man is currently active duty Navy, my sweet man was just shot in Nigeria! My heart is breaking. He is alive and doing better, but wow! He is a Navy doctor and was building a hospital with his own money for the people, and ended up getting shot! Damn. 😪

Please keep in mind with this comment, it’s not about the war (or politics), it’s about the warrior.
As I listen to this (for the 20+ time) tears fell down my face with the line “The mountains of Afghanistan And I’m still hoping, waiting, praying I did not die in vain”
May all my fallen comrades, you are in my heart and prayers. USMC 93-97

When Trace sings songs like this he's not singing he is telling a story from the eyes of the soldiers and you feel as if you are right there when what ever the soldier is going through. You feel what the Soldiers in The Civil War and WW2 are feeling before and after they died. Trace does a lot of songs like this that have The Civil War mentioned. He is big on making sure that Those who fought in that war be they North or South, Blues or Grays be remembered as well as battle sites be saved,

I lost my grandpa back in February of this year, n I got a tattoo for him yesterday. I miss him n I love watching your videos because we used to watch them together, he was in the Air Force, hearing the 21 guns at his funeral has made it impossible to go hunting or even be around guns, but again your videos have made me feel at peace n feel that he’s watching them with me

I was in for 18 years and I don't regret a day of it, not even the hardest part boot camp. My dad was in the Army in WW II. 3 of my four brothers were in the navy. My son was in the Army in Afghanistan and Iraq. and we all served proudly.

+BillyYouSoCrazy Thank YOU for your service. My father was also in the military (Army) as was my maternal grandfather (Korean War Vet). I tried to get in myself but my dad had a fit as he didn't want me joining. They didn't take me anyhow as I have a heart condition and a thyroid condition.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERY VET OUT THERE!!! No matter what branch of service, you are all brothers in arms. I am a huge patriot and love what this country stands for! THANK YOU Billyyousocrazy! I just discovered you today and have watched several of your veteran reacts videos and I just love your respect and love for countrymen. My dad served in the Navy and Army. I married a combat Army Vet. 19 years after we wed our son, also, has served in Afghanistan and currently serves with the Army Nat'l Guard and after 10 yrs of service he chose to go try out for the GB selections has EARNED his Green Beret. He has no plans on getting out anytime soon. He LOVES it that much! I pray hard that I never have to hear the 21 gun salute on his behalf BUT IF I do I will count it as an honor for my son to have served his country. I cannot be more proud of the man that he has grown to be. Sending LOVE and MUCH RESPECT to every servicemen! Signed, An Army Mom
