Well it's not just him, research as a whole does. the idea that males in social groups are at this constant agressive battle for the top spot is just not something that is found in all animals, sure gorilla's have a semi violent group dynamic, but in chimps for example the most succesfull male is not the most agressive or physically impossing ape but one that spends allot of time on other gentle social interactions, such as grooming. Turns out nature isn't that easily forced into neat little boxes :)

In my experience the dominant member of any friend group is always the one that everyone deems to have the best judgement and consideration for the group. Respect doesn't come from brute force, how big your muscles are or how big your mouth is, you have to actually earn it, as in any leadership position regardless of context. Charisma, not arrogance!

The idea of a person whos above everyone else does not exist in this world. Yet. But the answer lies in 2 things. The core values that shape are individual humanity, and circumstance.
Dominant people will always try to dominate situations, where as subservient people wont. They will just go with the flow and allow most things to happen.
Interestingly enough we find strong people to be those who protect others. We hate seeing injustice because we always reflect back on areselves and see the humanity. We call those who take advantage of and attack others as weak. The strong tend to be those who are willing to stand up for those around them. We can call bullshit pretty easily when we see those who think they are srtong for attacking others with injustice.
