I cant't figure out what his old cpu was from this video, but i think the problem might be that the bios needs an update bcs those mobo's were create for the intel 8000 series

Sorry for the noob question, but why was the bios image from ibuypower if the motherboard was swapped? I figured it would have changed with the swap, unless it's on the operating drive itself. Anyway, great content as always!

You should build your own test bench for your Fix/flop systems, for testing parts. Adding there PSU and all necessary pc parts so you can easily and quickly test parts of customer pc's

The owner had already swapped the CPU and thought that there was an issue with the RAM, so combined with the bent pin, it sounded like a Mboard issue to me.

This has slowly become one of my favorite series to watch. Watching this gave me the confidence to built my first PC for my friend and it went flawlessly. I really appreciate your detailed insight and explanations.
Thoroughly enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 of Fix or Flop, so when the first ep of S3 dropped today I was pumped!
One should never put the system back together until you've figured it out.
This series has helped me a lot. I built a pc for the first time the other day and this series helped me troubleshoot a couple of issues and made me more knowledgeable about pc components . :)
An invaluable series Fix or Flop has given so much help in trouble shooting problems with the three rigs I've built for me my partner and my daughter. I see the problem right away. It has an intel stock cooler. Should be an easy fix.
for just a quick boot to check the bios it wouldn't matter in that regard unless it already fried the processor.

This would have been such nice trip next year to make on holidays during summer to get 3 weeks spending in Florida summer and same time getting my system to be fixed. Juuuuust coupe of issues starting I am living in Finland and second these videos etc have helped me to build and maintain well working personal home computer. Still keep this coming interesting to watch the troubleshoot.

These are always interesting to watch - also funny to see both the overlap and differences in how we would troubleshoot. If it won't post the first thing i do is reset CMOS, but after that would disconnect all unnecessary things and strip the system down to bare minimum as Greg did. Also like he said - if you have to really dig into it just leave the motherboard out until you have a confirmed working setup again.
yea i kinda wish when he got the new board he would do a test boot just to confirm its good before place back in its just a good habit but alas.

With Gigabyte boards, I've noticed that when you reset the cmos, you have to keep power going to the board (don't switch off the psu) otherwise it won't clear.
Are you sure? I cleared my cmos earlier this week while i was trouble shooting my rig. My psu died so there was no way for me to get power and my bios confirmed that all my settings reset. I'm using a z490 gaming x for reference.
@@tartantulakid666 I've had two gigabyte boards recently that refused to clear cmos. I then read on a forum that keeping the board powered would do the trick. Worked on both boards 🤷🏻

Ok Greg,, few things crossed my mind while watching this.
1) You might want to get a PC speaker. In the case that a motherboard doesn't have a LED display for post codes, the pc speaker will give you the beep codes to diagnose that issue.
2) XFX used to make NVidia cards, like a Geforce MX440, but it was a LONG time ago. Your card is most likely a HD5450 or HD6450.
3) As the 300 series started with 8th Gen a bios update may have been required. There are even some boards that accept a 9900 non-K but need an update for the KS.
1) I have plenty of PC speakers Lol. They often don't work in these scenarios. No beeps.
2) Was referring to relevant XFX cards, not ancient relics ;-)
3) Tried 8th gen CPU and still no POST, so I doubt it was a BIOS update that was required. Couldn't POST to update it either way. Would need to swap chips outright.
Odd on the post beep not working at times, I tend to use it more then the led codes.
As to the trying the 8th gen, downside of condensing the video, can't see what was cut. Ah well, you still do good work.

Greg Great to see Season 3! can you make a video mostly focusing on different types of PSU problem. for ex. PSU only make cliking sound but dont start. sometime it works with one setup but do not work with other setup etc. I have come up with such situation recently and will be intrested to share it with you if you are interested.

I noticed in the close up of the XFX card, there are gaps in the connector pins. I've seen that on other cards and always wondered what that means
I believe that means that the pins that could be there were just not needed like additional power. I'm not to sure though so someone can be free to correct me.
@@aarontmg9758 it wouldn't be power, power comes from the 1st section of the pcie slot, it's for bandwidth, less lanes = less bandwidth, lower end gpus don't need can't handle such high bandwidth so don't need additional lanes hence they are not wired. Fun fact pcie slots can provide 75watts of power which is why low end gpus don't need supplemental power, also why I love pcie is forward and backward compatibility, where you can use a 16x device in a 1x slot (won't have all the bandwidth though) and vice versa, not to mention the compatibility between generations. It is the best interface

For those who do complain about no upgrade it is not justified because you went Z390, which from the B365M is an upgrade.
My niece & I had a good entry for FoF last week, I got a AeroCool XPredator Cube (Iron-Man Theme) for my Bedroom HTPC & my niece asked if she could do the case swap, she left the Pentium G4400/GA-H110M-S2H/Cooler/2x 4GB DDR4-2400 as 1 unit but when we turned the PC on after the swap just Boot Loops. My niece thought she had killed it 😢, we added a BIOS Speaker & got Memory Beep so took out the Left Channel DIMM, still Boot Loops & Mem Beeps, put the DIMM from left Channel in Right Channel & got a Post, added the Right Channel DIMM to the Left Channel & working fine too. So for some reason it just decided it didn't like the DIMMS in the slots they were in 🤷♀🤷♂???
So proud of my niece as she has been a big help with projects like this where my disability makes things like working with tiny screws very frustrating.

You could try using a BIOS flasher (Eprom programmer kit) on the old motherboard. To see if flashing a new bios would fix the issue.
That was my thought, should always attempt a refresh of the bios in that situation.

I wouldnt see why anyone would complain about not being upgraded here tbh, you gave him a full sized board from a small board, usually atleast like a 50-100$ difference in price, plus overclocking potential if he replaces that CPU cooler now
Greg you fixed and upgraded this rig with the motherboard replacement because you offered him a Z390 instead of his faulty microATX board.
That’s enough for me don’t listen to the comments telling you that you must upgrade also this or that component.
PC works fine as it is right now this is what matters most 💪🏻

Glad to see the start of season 3 and this was a good computer to start with. You had to go thru almost all the components to find out what wrong with it. There is one thing that I have been wondering about. That is bent cpu pins/cpu socket pins, why are there so many people with bent pins? I have been making my own computer and later my kids computers for over 20 years. I have made or upgraded 30+ computers and I have never had a bent pin. People just sloppy putting them in? People drop them? you would think that if you are putting in a CPU you would know to be very careful and watch what you are doing.
I know it was a long shot but if I was in that position and tried what you did and still got no post then my last ditched effort in that scenario would have been to re-install the bios via usb flash, after all a corrupt bios would show the same thing you were seeing. I've had weird things like this happen to me and just refreshing the bios fixed my problem.
Shame you never gave that a thought.
Maybe next time, also good on you for buying this person a new motherboard, was a very nice gesture..Top guy!
