Thanks for this, was looking forward to it!
It sounds like the blue is targeted to those looking for something very easy to drink, maybe even someone who doesn't know much about whisky. It's nothing special in the sense of the whole whisky experience, but being smooth and light is special in its own way.
The green sounds to have more layers and depth which is what is interesting to those wanting to go deeper in the whisky world.
So when you include the price, I can see why the blue is frowned upon in a way. It's too expensive for an easy drink/beginners.

I like your review style. Green is probably the only JW I really liked, probably because it is higher ABV like another commenter has also said. Blue is more like a "status symbol, I have JW blue" marketing thing often given as gifts, but it is as you said a delicate blend but not worth the money. A couple of interesting things - I do get smoky notes with the Green but only on the finish, not the nose - there I get a sandalwood candle. I also get the tangerines/mandarins you mentioned on the palate. All the best!

I hear you, some years it has more Smokey notes than others I have found that in all the JW whisky's.

Good review, thanks for posting it. I have not tried Blue Label; the price is ridiculous, even for a sample bottle or a pour at a bar. Green Label (GL) can be hard to find, but I lucked into a bottle at one of my favorite stores. The price was good at US$49.99. I found the GL to not have much peaty odor or taste at all. With a 15-year age statement, the GL is as smooth as I expected it to be, and that is it’s best attribute. The GL is not particularly complex, and would be a good introduction to Scotch for those who haven’t tried it and/or fear peaty Scotches. On the flip side, the GL isn’t particularly “exciting” on the nose nor the taste, and there are (to me) better blended malts out there, such as Naked Grouse or Monkey Shoulder. Green Label is good, and I recommend trying at least one bottle of it.

As a non whisky drinker , other JW line is totally unbearable can’t stand the aftertaste.
However blue label it’s totally drinkable and enjoyable.
To me it’s the only whisky I’ll ever drink.

I always got the impression that the Blue was made to be more accessible for everyone, kind of like a premium gift (especially at that price!).

I always found the Blue to have the superior nose, but the green edges it on the palate. They are both an automatic in my home bar. Love them both.

No. Green is my second favorite from Johnnie Walker’s labels but Blue is the best for me. NOW, if we’re talking bang for your buck then yes Green hands down but if money weren’t a problem I’d pick Blue 10 times out of 10.

Green is better, even without the price factored in. Blue is the most overpriced scotch in my opinion, $160usd for a NAS 40% blended scotch? Ridiculous! I get Green for $40-$45.

Blue is fine, but too expensive for what it's worth. The price needs to be cut in half.
Green is great, but sometimes tastes like a leather wallet or a cigar. I still like the sour apples and vanilla taste and it mixes surprisingly well with coffee, orange, or grapefruit juice.
    Green is the winner.

Nice comparison! I’m not quite sure that I’m ready to rush out and buy a bottle of green but may give a glass a go in a bar.
I was just thinking that you should consider taking the show on the road when Covid passes. I’d love to see some reviews direct from some Scottish or Tasmanian Distilleries. Maybe even a few interviews with the distillers 😉

This is a very helpful video...I have avoided JW completely and may consider the green after this review.
That said, I love Compass Box Spice Tree and can get it for $57usd tax included. It is 46%, no color or chill filtration and I know that I love it.
But, I will check the price at my local market because they have a huge inventory of JW whiskies.
    Cheers!

I haven’t a blended for many years, having focused (in an OCD way) on smallish distillery single malts. I appreciate the review and will check out the Green soon. I was given a bottle of Blue as a gift. I suppose if I had complete sensory deprivation except taste I’d could figure what was going on with the Blue, but otherwise it eludes my palate. Subtle or insipid. One of those two scenarios, but certainly not such a burning question for me that I’d pay for it.

Green is the winner any day in terms for value and taste!! Green is the best value JW expression. On the other hand blue is not a bad whisky it is just a fancy whisky which does not have much complexity and anyone can drink it and keep one in their bar to showoff.

In my humble opinion, if you're into whiskey, Johnny Walker is something you wanna stay away from entirely. It's greatly overhyped and therefore overpriced. For each JW there are plenty of much better options for less money on the market.

I'm trying a taste comparison between Johnnie Walker Green and Teachers Highland Cream. Both are 86 proof and are highly peated for a blend.
