G'day from West Australia, Tom 😉
You hope it's interesting?
Of course it is, watching a car crafter is always interesting.
Never t ok old to learn another perspective of metal craft buddy😉🙂👍👍
Thanks alot Steve !
geez, that is going to look as though it was factory made that way
great thinking into the project
keep up the good craftsmanship
appreciate you sharing
Cheers mate , thanks for the support , appreciate it
Good stuff mate
Thanks Reece!
Wish we had the same reproduction parts for some of our Aussie classics. Would be great to see you doing the replacement quarters on it Tom. The wheel tubs look great. 👌
Thanks Craig, your right , the American cars have so much available for them aftermarket
Never have to many clamps! Few months back I bought a pack of 16 vice grips (all sorts) and ran out. So very correct, never have enough clamps.
so true! I have a whole trolly full and yet Im always running out ) cheers mate , thanks for watching
What the hell is a Boot floor? LOL Just picking on you brother, great video.
😂 cheers mate ! Different countries different spalanguages i guess 😅
Love your work mate :) .... keep going, great selection of cars too :)
Thanks alot mate ! appreciate you watching !
Had this car had a full body and chassis restore b4 u got it cause it looks pretty well gone thru not my choice if colours 😂😂each to their own
Yeah it had a 1980s resto and then stored away . The repairs removed the rust but were not of a very good standard
Great work so what’s the name of the kit you used on the 57 mini tub
Not sure mate, I got the floor and tubs from Muscle car parts in Moorebank
Another great video! How many hours do you think you spent doing the amount of work that you covered in this video? I'm halfway through mini tubs on a Mercury Comet and I feel like it's taking me forever!!! If you spot weld the tubs into place, would you run a bead of seam sealer over all the joins and call it done? Thanks!
Thanks alot for watching mate ! I am guessing a Little, but I think I have about 15 hours in it , maybe a bit more , but that does not include the rest of the cars dis-assembly . Just the work from starting to cut into the floor and tubs and clean and prep. to answer your other question, yes I have painted bother surfaces with weld through primer, so once its spot welded I will run seam sealer along the joins both on top and underneath inside the wheel well. good luck with the Comet!
Was the floor rusty or did you just use the opportunity to do it while doing the mini tubs?
The Car appears to have no rust in it at all now, but the boot floor had originally had alot of patchs put in it, and welded up, probably with oxy, they looked rough as, so since the tubbed floor was available I just grabbed it with the tubs made sense to do it
@@phatridesgarage3760 why not, if you can remove some ugly in the process may as well. Did you talk to Sam about that turbo suggestion?
Cheers MATE, no I didnt talk to Sam about turbos, Im not going all out on this, I just want a mild street cruiser, mainly because I have other cars to build and especially the XB Coupe will be having alot of cash put into it. I will be happy with 400-500 horse power in the chevy
@@phatridesgarage3760 that's enough for a cruiser. Have seen a few mini tub videos recently and was curious if you compensated for the inside curve when you mocked it up. Tyres are typically square edged (small radius) whereas the stock / replacement inner guards are more rounded meaning you can't put a tyre right up against the tub. Did you cut back the sheet metal further beyond the chassis rails to compensate for the curve? What is your method for knowing if they are going to fit the wheels you want?
Thanks mate, no I didnt compensate for the curve of the edge of the tub. I simply did the mock up so that the tubs matched up to tubbed floor pan, part of the reason I also replaced the floorpan was about not having to do extra work altering the floor , cutting , folding lips etc just to make the tubs fit. The width of the tyres I can fit on this Car now will be fine for what I want. I measured an overall gap from inside tub to inside the wheel arch as being around 420mm , so allowing for upper curvature I should still be able to fit some fairly decent tyres
