Wonderful dancing, but also wonderful music. Just two instruments, banjo and feet, and you achieve that rare emotional punch that comes echoing from somewhere deep.
I grew tall(have so far managed to avoid growing up) and lived most of my life in in appalachia and you would have to be one of two dancers I woul have to rank as the best I've seen. I could go on but just wish there were a flood more vids to feast on. Thank you...
Very similar to Irish damhsa ar an sean nós. Sean-nós dance is characterised by its "low to the ground" footwork, improvised steps, free movement of the arms, and an emphasis upon a "batter" using an 8 beat count.
So much fun. Love the dancing and I love the banjo. I have tap shoes but they just are not comfortable. I cant find a floor to use them on anyway. So I can only dance in my socks around here.
Issy: I enjoyed this video just as much as the last. You really bring forth that wonderful country feeling. Too hard to describe I am sure viewers and fans alike knows exactly what I mean. Please consider instructional videos. I have a couple of grand kids who wish to learn. Thank you and God bless, Kevin Howey
That's so kind Kevin. I don't think I really deserve such praise though as I'm sure I'm not particularly authentic. I just enjoy dancing. I learned a few steps from watching the great Ira Bernstein's beginners video (perhaps your grandchildren could get that) and then pretty much made the rest up picking up odd steps here and there from various different dance genres, including English clog dancing of which I used to do a little. But then flatfooting is a bit of a mixture of traditional dance from all sorts of places so perhaps I'm more authentic than I think! Anyway, glad you enjoyed watching and thanks for commenting. All the best. Issy www.issyemeney.co.uk
Finally, UA-cam done me right ! WHY COULDN'T I FIND A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN... LIKE THIS TALENTED & BEAUTIFUL WOMAN ! TAKES TALENT... TAKES SKILL... TAKES BRAINS... TAKES RYTHEM... DOES IT TAKE A LONG TIME TO LEARN ? BEAUTIFUL IS JUST, ONE HECK OF A BONUS !
Loved this one also!!!! Post some more please!!!! This old geezer in Texas really enjoys them. I start my day off by watching the other video done to "Hey little Girl". Coffee and Issy early in the morning. You know its going to be a good day.!!!
Totally love this and wish I could do exactly that same dance! We've got some famous fiddlers and guitar players in the family ..... no flatfooters =( mountain people !
You ain't lost nothing from 4 years ago on the last video. Did a flatfoot solo at a Christmas show last night, but wish I could be as good as you - I did borrow a couple of your steps - thanks!
Hi Issy, I watch your two-stepping videos all the time, they soothe the soul. I was just wondering how an Old Blighty girl came to Appalachian dancing?
Hi Michael, glad you like the videos. I started with English clogging as danced by the Lancashire cotton mill girls in the 19th century. Can't remember exactly how I discovered Flatfooting, but was instantly attracted to it's freer, and to me, more dynamic style. I love all stepdancing really and there are many, many styles the world over.
Hi Issy! Looooove watching you flat foot. I'm a fan and periodically re-watches your videos for inspiration. How did you come to learn this style of dance? What would your advice be a 25-year-old gal such as myself? Seems to be nearly impossible to find an "instructor". I think this is the kind of dance that you just grow up learning from folks around you (family, friends, neighbors). I'm from Kentucky but just recently moved to Oregon. Do you know of anyone? I have such a burning passion to learn flatfooting. Nothing ever looked so fun!
Yes these dances were created by the Scots-Irish who settled America. Most notably though the Settlers from the Appalachian Mountains on the East Coast of the U.S. . An Irish man documents his Journey of traveling to America and retracing these Scots-Irish Settlers and the Culture they brought with them from the Ole'Country. Really interesting. Goodluck!
Thanks Ray, glad you liked it. I try and get round to posting another one some time. Trouble is, I'm out of practice as I don't dance much these days. I'll be posting some music videos fairly soon though so look out for those.
It's winging it! I have a store of steps but put them together freestyle according to what the music's doing. That's roughly it anyway. Thanks for your comment.
Issy Emeney that would be awesome. I’ve been learning flat foot dancing from some UA-cam videos. The choices are limited. The best dancers don’t have any teaching videos that I can find. I have watched yours repeatedly and have learned some things that way but there’s some steps I can’t figure out. It would be so helpful if you considered a teaching video or several ! 😊
I wonder if these traditions are being passed to the new generations. Of course it remains to be seen if these new generations have any ethnic or emotional connections to these traditions.
Thanks John. I agree with you. I usually dance in leather soled shoes, which is more authentic and has a softer sound. I use taps for performance generally. .
Yours vidio-2010 very warm as though ladies asked to dance on family celebration. She is dressed in a cardigan and jeans and to all smiles. Full delight. On your video-2014, probably, much more difficult dance. But it is similar to the last training before responsible competition. It is a lot of tension. Suit corresponding.) My impressions are that. But you dance, of course, perfectly.
Fantastic! Brilliant piece of dancing, such a pleasure to watch.
Thanks Susie, glad you liked it.
I stop by every once in a while when I need my spirits uplifted.. it never fails..
What a doll! This is so inspiring. The music is terrific and this gal is magic! Thank you for sharing with us all! God bless.
Thank you so much!
This is the second video I've seen of Issy dancing. I sure love to watch her.
Thanks Margaret. Glad you like them.
She feels the rhythm through her whole body you can see. It flows. Love this.
I won't get tired, watching her. So cool!
Wonderful dancing, but also wonderful music. Just two instruments, banjo and feet, and you achieve that rare emotional punch that comes echoing from somewhere deep.
Absolutely true.
A bit like your comment then 😭🥰😭🥰😭

Dan McCartney Try her Appalachian Flatfooting video! I think it’s even better! Just click on her icon; not many videos there.
I really love it! You are a great dancer ❤
Superb!

I have tap shoes but they just are not comfortable. I cant find a floor to use them on anyway. So I can only dance in my socks around here.
Dancing seems as natural for you than walking.
Bravo from friggin France.
Thanks so much.
Love that name, Flatfooting.

Making music with your feet. Really enjoyed it. Bet it's great exercise as well.
Really good dancing, it's like bring it home girl!
Thank you a second time.
Thank you too!
I like this one too! I didn't realize that you weren't from American Appalachia but were in England. I'll check in on your band from time to time.

Can you make a video doing this dance to Man of constant sorrow please???
☺
Hi, u have to put the full name in the title, like with the previous video. Apalachian is missing. This is the clickbait.
Thanks for the tip!
Well done Miss Emeney, it reminds me a bit of Metis Jigging. I look forward to more posts. :)
I've only discovered what is Flatfooting jus a few weeks ago.
Is there a pattern to your dance movements or is this all impromptu.
I gotta listen to Adam 🐜 Ant
She could kill roaches like nobody's business
Hi Issy, loved your little clip. Are the origins of this type of dancing Scottish. I'm from Scotland.
Goodluck!
Hello Issy. Have you posted another video? If not, are you planning another one? Love this video and the Issy Emeney Appalachian Flatfooting video.
Thanks Ray, glad you liked it. I try and get round to posting another one some time. Trouble is, I'm out of practice as I don't dance much these days. I'll be posting some music videos fairly soon though so look out for those.
I have to wonder is that choreographed or is it just winging it either way I smiled watching. Thanks
It's winging it! I have a store of steps but put them together freestyle according to what the music's doing. That's roughly it anyway. Thanks for your comment.
+Issy Emeney Flat footing looks like a fun way to work out...
I don’t know what they pay you but it ain’t enough!!
Have you ever posted the steps and break it down for those of us learning?
Hi Brenda. Not yet, but I've been asked quite often so perhaps...
Flr some reason like the other one better. Might be the audio, or just the song and its beat...
I wonder if these traditions are being passed to the new generations. Of course it remains to be seen if these new generations have any ethnic or emotional connections to these traditions.
Her performance was perfect. I would like to watch the same performance without the loud tap shoes.

Suit corresponding.)
My impressions are that. But you dance, of course, perfectly.
Thank you very much for your kind comment. My dancing is not perfect, but I enjoy trying! Best wishes Issy
She is in jammin
Cricket and a mule eating ice cream, mule got sick so they laid him on a beam.
That’s impressive, and you’re beautiful...😉
